00:00Hey everyone, and welcome back to our adventure through history.
00:04Today, we're going to talk about someone super special, a shepherd boy who became a king.
00:09His name is David, and his story is like the ultimate real-life adventure movie.
00:14So, picture this, Israel's first king, Saul, has just passed away, and everyone is wondering,
00:21who's going to be our next leader?
00:23It was a bit of a confusing and sad time for the people.
00:26But God had a plan all along, and that plan involved a young man named David.
00:32Now, David wasn't your typical choice for a king.
00:35He wasn't the biggest or the strongest-looking guy around.
00:39In fact, when the prophet Samuel first went to find God's chosen king,
00:43he looked at all of David's tall, strong older brothers and thought,
00:48it must be one of these guys.
00:50But God told Samuel something really important.
00:53He said, I don't look at the things people look at.
00:56People look at the outside, but I look at the heart.
00:59And David had a heart that was full of love for God.
01:03That's why God chose him.
01:04Even though God had picked him, David didn't become king overnight.
01:08He had to be super patient.
01:10Think about waiting for your birthday or for a special holiday.
01:14It feels like forever, right?
01:16Well, David had to wait for years.
01:18During that time, he faced some major challenges.
01:21He was a shepherd, which meant he had to be brave and protect his sheep from lions and bears.
01:27This job taught him how to be a strong and caring leader.
01:31He also had to deal with King Saul, who got very jealous of him and chased him all over the country.
01:37These tough times were like a training ground for David.
01:39They helped build his character, teaching him to be humble, to trust in God, and to be patient.
01:46It was like he was in king's school without even knowing it.
01:49After King Saul died, David knew it was time to step up.
01:53But he didn't just rush in and say,
01:55Okay, I'm the king now.
01:57No, the first thing he did was ask God for guidance.
02:01He prayed, Where should I go?
02:03And God told him to go to a special city called Hebron.
02:06So David, being obedient, packed up his family and his loyal friends and headed to Hebron.
02:13When they got there, something amazing happened.
02:16The leaders of his own tribe, the tribe of Judah, came to him.
02:20They remembered that God had chosen David a long time ago.
02:24They sought his courage, his wisdom, and his good heart.
02:27They knew he was the right person to lead them.
02:30So, right there in Hebron, they held a special ceremony.
02:33They anointed David with oil, which was a very important way of showing that someone was officially chosen by God to be king.
02:41It was like a super special coronation.
02:43This was a huge moment.
02:45It was the people of Judah saying,
02:47We're with you, David.
02:49We believe you're our leader.
02:50This anointing in Hebron was the very beginning of David's reign.
02:54He was now officially the king of Judah.
02:57The city of Hebron became his first capital.
02:59It was a really smart choice for a home base.
03:02Hebron was an ancient city, a place linked all the way back to Abraham, the great ancestor of their nation.
03:09Setting up his kingdom to show everyone that David respected their history and traditions.
03:15It was also in a great spot strategically, making it easier to defend and to manage his growing kingdom.
03:21For the next seven and a half years, David ruled over the tribe of Judah from Hebron.
03:27This period was super important.
03:29It was a time for him to prove he was a good king.
03:32He showed everyone that he was not just a great warrior, but also a wise and fair ruler.
03:38He started making friends and building alliances with other groups of people.
03:43For example, he heard that the men of a town called Jabesh Gilead had bravely buried King Saul.
03:49Even though Saul had been his enemy, David sent a message to these men thanking them for their loyalty and kindness.
03:55This showed everyone what kind of leader he was.
03:59One who valued loyalty and respected others, even his former rivals.
04:04It was a very clever and kind political move.
04:07But not everyone was happy that David was king.
04:10Remember King Saul?
04:12Well, he had a son named Ish-bosheth.
04:14One of Saul's top generals made Ish-bosheth the king over the rest of the tribes of Israel.
04:20So, for a while, the kingdom was divided.
04:23It was like a big family feud.
04:25You had David and the tribe of Judah on one side, and Ish-bosheth and the other tribes on the other.
04:31This led to a long and difficult conflict.
04:35There were battles and arguments.
04:37And it was a tough time for the whole nation.
04:40But through it all, David's group kept getting stronger and stronger.
04:43While the supporters of Saul's family got weaker and weaker, it was exactly as God had planned.
04:50David continued to lead with wisdom and courage from his base in Hebron.
04:54He was building a strong foundation, earning the trust and respect not just of his own people,
05:01but of everyone who saw him in action.
05:03His time in Hebron wasn't just about waiting.
05:06It was about preparing.
05:07He was getting ready for the day when he would unite all the tribes and become the king of all Israel.
05:14The anointing of David in Hebron is such a key part of his story.
05:18It was the public thumbs up that confirmed God's private choice.
05:21It showed that the community recognized God's authority and was ready to follow the leader.
05:26He had chosen.
05:28This event fulfilled God's promise to give his people a king after his own heart.
05:32And David's entire kingship is incredibly important,
05:36because it points forward to an even greater king who would one day come from his family line, the Messiah.
05:42So, what can we learn from David's journey to the throne first?
05:46God looks at our hearts.
05:48It doesn't matter what we look like on the outside.
05:51What matters is our character and our love for Him.
05:54Second, patience is a superpower.
05:57David had to wait a long, long time, but he used that time to grow and learn.
06:02The tough times we go through can actually be preparing us for something amazing in the future.
06:07And third, it's always wise to seek God's guidance, just like David did before he went to Hebron.
06:14David's story from shepherd to king is a powerful reminder that God has a plan for each of us,
06:20and He can use anyone to do incredible things.
06:23The anointing in Hebron was the moment that plan really kicked into high gear,
06:27starting a new chapter for David and for the entire nation of Israel.
06:32It was a journey of faith, patience, and leadership that changed history forever.
