00:00Hey, kids, have you ever made a pinky promise with a friend?
00:04It's a super special promise that you promise you'll never, ever break.
00:08Well, today we're going to talk about a super duper, extra special promise that God made
00:14a long, long time ago.
00:16It's called the Davidic Covenant, and it's one of the most exciting stories in the whole
00:20Bible.
00:21Our story starts with a shepherd boy named David.
00:24You might remember him as a brave kid who defeated the giant Goliath with just a sling
00:29and a stone.
00:30Because David had a heart that loved God very much, God chose him to be the king of Israel.
00:36How cool is that?
00:37From a shepherd to a king.
00:39As king, David was a great leader.
00:41He brought everyone together and made Jerusalem the capital city, a special place for all of
00:47God's people.
00:48He won many battles and made the kingdom of Israel strong and safe.
00:53David loved God so much that he had a big idea.
00:56He wanted to build a beautiful, magnificent house for God, a temple where everyone could
01:02come and worship.
01:03David thought, I live in a nice palace, but God's special ark of the covenant is just
01:09in a tent.
01:10He really wanted to do this big thing for God, but God had an even bigger plan.
01:15God sent a prophet named Nathan to talk to David.
01:18God told David, you want to build a house for me?
01:21That's very kind, but I am going to build a house for you.
01:24Now, God wasn't talking about a house made of wood and stone.
01:28He was talking about David's family, his lineage, a dynasty.
01:33This is where the amazing promise, the Davidic covenant, comes in.
01:37God promised David three incredible things.
01:40First, God promised that David would always have a descendant, someone from his family,
01:45to sit on the throne.
01:46It wouldn't be for just a little while, but forever and ever.
01:50Imagine a royal family that never ends.
01:53This promise wasn't based on what David or his kids did.
01:57It was a promise that God himself would keep, no matter what.
02:01It was unconditional.
02:02God's faithfulness is bigger than any mistake we could ever make.
02:07Second, God promised David an everlasting kingdom.
02:11This kingdom wouldn't just disappear or be conquered and forgotten.
02:15It would last forever.
02:16And third, God promised an eternal throne.
02:19This means that the right to rule would always belong to David's family.
02:23So, a descendant, a kingdom, and a throne forever.
02:27Well, that's way better than a pinky promise, right?
02:31When David heard this, he was completely amazed.
02:34He felt so small and humbled.
02:37He went before God and just said thank you.
02:40He couldn't believe that God would be so good to him.
02:43David's reaction shows us how important it is to be humble and grateful.
02:47He knew this incredible gift wasn't something he earned.
02:51But it was all because of God's amazing grace and love.
02:54David's obedience and love for God were his way of saying thank you for all the blessings he had received.
03:01Now, you might be thinking, forever is a really, really long time.
03:06How could David's family rule forever?
03:08And that is the most exciting part of the story.
03:10This promise wasn't just about the kings who came after David in the Old Testament.
03:15It was a giant arrow pointing to someone very special who was coming in the future.
03:20Can you guess who?
03:21That's right, Jesus.
03:23Centuries later, when Jesus was born, the angels announced his arrival.
03:27The Bible tells us that Jesus was a descendant of King David.
03:31If you look in the books of Matthew and Luke in the New Testament,
03:35you can trace Jesus' family tree all the way back to David.
03:39People in the Bible even called Jesus the son of David.
03:42They weren't saying David was his dad.
03:44They were saying he was a special king from David's family line that God had promised.
03:50All those Old Testament prophecies about a great ruler coming from David's line.
03:55We're talking about Jesus.
03:57He was the one everyone was waiting for.
03:59Jesus is the ultimate king, but his kingdom isn't like the ones we see on a map.
04:04Jesus' kingdom is an everlasting, spiritual kingdom that is in the hearts of everyone who loves and follows him.
04:12He didn't come to sit on an earthly throne in Jerusalem,
04:15but to establish a kingdom of love, peace, and salvation that would never end.
04:21So, the Davidic covenant connects the whole Bible, from the Old Testament to the New Testament.
04:27It shows us that God has a master plan for all of humanity.
04:30He is always faithful and keeps his promises, even when it takes a long, long time.
04:36This amazing promise about an eternal king and an eternal kingdom gives us so much hope,
04:42even when things in the world seem chaotic or scary.
04:45We can remember that God is in control.
04:48He has a king, Jesus, who reigns forever, and we can be a part of his kingdom.
04:53Understanding this special covenant helps us see how beautifully the Bible's story fits together.
04:59It all points to Jesus, the king of kings, who came to save us.
05:04He is the perfect fulfillment of God's promise to David.
05:07And that is the best news ever.
05:09It's a reminder of God's unwavering love and his incredible plan for each and every one of us.
05:16Thanks so much for hanging out with me today to learn about God's amazing promise to King David.
05:21It's a story that shows us just how faithful God is.
