00:00Hey everyone, and welcome back.
00:02Today we're going to hear an awesome story about a brave young man named David and a king named Saul.
00:08It's a story full of suspense, close calls, and a super important lesson about doing the right thing, even when it's really, really hard.
00:17So grab your popcorn, get comfy, and let's dive into one of the most exciting adventures ever.
00:23Our story starts with David.
00:25You might remember him as a shepherd boy who defeated a giant Goliath.
00:30Well, after that amazing victory, everyone loved David.
00:33They sang songs about him and praised his bravery.
00:37This made the current king, King Saul, feel very jealous and insecure.
00:42He saw how popular David was becoming and worried that David might take his place as king one day.
00:48Saul's jealousy grew so strong that he started trying to get rid of David.
00:52It wasn't just a little bit of grumpiness.
00:54Saul was actively hunting David, trying to capture him.
00:58So, poor David had to run away and hide.
01:01He spent a long time hiding in the wilderness, in caves, and in faraway towns.
01:07All walking Saul and his huge army were searching for him.
01:11It was a very dangerous and scary time for David.
01:14One day, something incredible happened.
01:16Saul and his army were searching for David near some sheep pens in a place called En Gedi.
01:22Saul needed to take a break, and he happened to go into the very same cave where David and his men were hiding, deep in the darkness at the back.
01:31Can you imagine that?
01:32The man who was hunting them walked right into their hiding spot.
01:35David's men saw their chance.
01:37They whispered to him,
01:38They thought it was the perfect time for David to take his revenge and get rid of Saul for good.
01:54It seemed like the easiest solution to all his problems.
01:57But David knew something that his men didn't fully understand.
02:01He knew that even though Saul was treating him badly, Saul was still the king chosen by God.
02:06In those days, a king was called God's anointed.
02:09This meant God had specially selected him for that important job.
02:13David had a deep respect for God, and because of that, he had a deep respect for the person God had chosen to be king.
02:21So, what did David do?
02:23Did he listen to his men?
02:25Did he take his revenge?
02:26No!
02:27He did something completely unexpected.
02:30He quietly crept up behind King Saul in the darkness of the cave.
02:33He was so close, he could have done anything he wanted.
02:37But instead of harming Saul, David took his knife and secretly cut off his small piece of the corner of Saul's robe.
02:44That was it.
02:45Just a little snippet of cloth.
02:47After he did it, David's heart immediately felt troubled.
02:51Even just cutting the king's robe felt wrong to him.
02:54He went back to his men and told them,
02:56I will never harm the king.
02:58He is the Lord's anointed, and it would be wrong for me to lay a hand on him.
03:02David showed his men that he trusted God's plan and timing,
03:07and that taking matters into his own hands through violence was not the right way.
03:11After Saul left the cave and had gone a little way off, David came out of hiding.
03:17He called out to the king,
03:19My lord the king.
03:20Saul turned around and saw David bowing down respectfully.
03:24Then David held up the piece of cloth he had cut from Saul's robe.
03:28He said,
03:29Look, today, in the cave, I had the chance to harm you, but I didn't.
03:34See this piece of your robe in my hand?
03:36I cut it off, but I spare your life.
03:39This proves that I am not your enemy, and I don't want to hurt you.
03:43When Saul heard this and saw the proof, he was completely stunned.
03:47He realized how wrong he had been.
03:50He started to cry and said,
03:52Is that your voice, my son David?
03:53Saul admitted that David was far more righteous and good than he was.
03:58He said,
03:59You have repaid me with good, while I have repaid you with evil.
04:03You have shown me such incredible kindness today.
04:06Saul understood that David could have easily ended the chase right there in that cave.
04:11But David chose mercy.
04:12He chose forgiveness.
04:14He chose to trust that God was in control of everything, including who would be king and when.
04:19Saul even blessed David and acknowledged that David would one day become the king of Israel.
04:26It was a powerful moment when mercy completely changed the situation.
04:30This story teaches us so much.
04:32First, it shows us the power of restraint.
04:35David had the power and the opportunity to get revenge, but he held back.
04:40He controlled his actions because he knew it was the right thing to do.
04:44It's easy to react when someone hurts us, but it takes real strength to choose peace instead.
04:49Second, it teaches us about forgiveness.
04:53David chose to forgive Saul for hunting him and trying to harm him.
04:57Instead of holding a grudge, he showed kindness.
05:00This act of forgiveness not only stopped the conflict for a while,
05:04but it also showed everyone what true leadership looks like.
05:08A real leader is someone who can be merciful and generous, even to their enemies.
05:13Third, it's a story about trusting God's timing.
05:16David knew that God had promised he would be king one day,
05:20but he didn't try to rush it or make it happen his own way.
05:24He was patient and trusted that God would fulfill his promise at the perfect time.
05:29David believed that justice and vengeance belonged to God, not to people.
05:34He chose to let God be the judge and handle the situation.
05:38Think about it in our own lives.
05:39Sometimes people might be mean to us or treat us unfairly.
05:44Our first thought might be to get them back, right?
05:46But David's story shows us a better way.
05:49It shows us that choosing kindness, showing mercy, and trusting that things will work out
05:54is a much more powerful and brave thing to do.
05:58David's actions didn't just save Saul's life that day.
06:01They also proved his character.
06:03They showed all of Israel that he was a man of integrity, humility, and great faith.
06:09By sparing Saul, David wasn't just being nice, he was living out his trust in God.
06:14He was showing that he valued God's authority above his own personal safety or ambition.
06:20This amazing act of mercy had a lasting impact.
06:23It showed everyone that David was fit to be a king.
06:26A king shouldn't be someone who is quick to anger and revenge,
06:30but someone who is just, merciful, and humble.
06:34David's humility is a big contrast to Saul's pride and jealousy.
06:38When David made a mistake, he was quick to repent and say he was sorry.
06:43But Saul often made excuses and blamed others.
06:46Even later, after Saul passed away, David didn't celebrate.
06:51He mourned for Saul.
06:52He remembered the good things about him and honored his memory.
06:56This shows that David's respect for Saul as God's anointed was genuine and lasted his whole life.
07:03He truly understood the power of forgiveness to heal and transform relationships.
07:08So, the next time you feel like getting even with someone,
07:11remember the story of David in the cave.
07:14Remember how he had the perfect chance for revenge but chose mercy instead.
07:18He chose to trust God's plan, respect authority, and show kindness to his enemy.
07:23And in doing so, he showed everyone that he was a true hero and a great leader.
07:29His choice to spare Saul is one of the greatest examples of integrity, faith, and forgiveness in history.
07:36What an incredible story!
07:37It really makes you think, doesn't it?
07:39What would you have done if you were in David's shoes?
07:42It's a tough question, but it reminds us that being strong isn't about how tough you are on the outside,
07:48but about the strength of your character on the inside.
