00:00It's all cleaned up, got the title in hand, it's ready to go.
00:03I sent Danielle on the road with Mike because I finally got a buyer that's interested in my Plymouth and
00:08he's coming from out of town.
00:09You know, I got an old motorcycle out in the woods.
00:13Wow.
00:14I can't believe what I'm looking at.
00:16The mid-1930s motorcycle carcass.
00:18Nah.
00:19For an Indian.
00:20You'd be lucky to even find a set of handlebars.
00:22The fact that so much of this bike is here, that's what's incredible.
00:26Danielle, nice to meet you. I talked to you on the phone.
00:28Danielle is something.
00:30I never have seen anybody with that many tattoos.
00:33And then we've got Norman Rockwell's insignia here.
00:36Norman Rockwell is an American icon.
00:39This is incredible.
00:40These banners are going to appeal to not just gas and oil collectors, but also art collectors.
00:45The coffin up with those spikes on top to keep his eye and help from sitting on his toolbox.
00:50That would not stop me.
00:52Look.
00:56Mmm.
00:58Help me here.
01:00I'm Mike Wolf.
01:02And I'm Frank Fress.
01:03And we're pickers.
01:06We travel the back roads of America looking to buy rusty gold.
01:11We make a living telling the history of America one piece at a time.
01:23Fantastic.
01:24It's all cleaned up.
01:25Got the title in hand.
01:26It's ready to go.
01:27You think you could do it, like, Wednesday?
01:29All right.
01:30I sent Danielle on the road with Mike because I finally got a buyer that's interested in my Plymouth.
01:35And he's coming from out of town to see it.
01:37It's a 39 Plymouth business coupe.
01:39This is?
01:40Two doors.
01:40Wow, yeah.
01:41That's cool.
01:46Woo!
01:48There you are, buddy.
01:49All right.
01:50I've been working on this car for a long time.
01:52And I'm excited to be able to sell it to somebody that might appreciate it as much as I do.
01:57Come on, guys.
01:57Let's go find Frank.
01:58Come on.
01:59Frank, Mom's here.
02:01Hey, Mom.
02:02Hey.
02:02What's going on?
02:04Well, I brought the dogs back.
02:05Getting ready to go on vacation.
02:06You only said you'd watch them, so...
02:08When did I say I'd watch them?
02:09The other night.
02:10You said you'd watch them.
02:11Mom, I can't.
02:13Now's not a good time.
02:14I watch Arby all the time.
02:15Mom, that's a cat.
02:16You just fill the bowl and empty the box.
02:18I know I got a plane to catch, so...
02:20Where are you going?
02:21Jamaica.
02:21You knew about it.
02:23Have fun.
02:24So what?
02:24She watches my cat once in a while.
02:26Now I got to take care of both the dogs.
02:27You can do it.
02:28I'm not...
02:29Mom!
02:29Yes.
02:30I can't...
02:30Mom!
02:31Bye!
02:31I'm serious.
02:32Mom!
02:33I'm just not really cut out for dogs.
02:34I don't have dogs.
02:35I have a cat.
02:36I'm not cut out for the responsibility.
02:38I think I'd put you in a kennel.
02:40I need care.
02:41I need maintenance.
02:42Look at these guys.
02:43They're like little squirmy things.
02:45I don't know about this.
02:53All right, Danny.
02:54This is what I'm talking about.
02:55So, like, right here, obviously, trailer court.
02:58You know?
02:58There's no garages.
02:59There's no outbuildings.
03:01I love being back out on the road again.
03:03Any opportunity at all to get out, do some picking.
03:06I'm psyched.
03:07This girl here, super happy.
03:09See that place right there?
03:10Yeah.
03:11Totally manicured.
03:13You know, there was also two meters on the outside of the house.
03:15Did you see that?
03:16Yeah.
03:16You know what that means?
03:17Rental property.
03:18Okay?
03:18Gotcha.
03:19Where's your notepad?
03:20You should be taking notes.
03:21You know how it feels when you're being lectured by your dad?
03:23That's how I feel when Mike is talking to me sometimes.
03:26Okay, like this place.
03:28Oh, holy cow.
03:29Perfect place, okay?
03:30He's got a junkyard out there.
03:31I don't see anything old yet.
03:33But what would a guy that owns a junkyard know about the area?
03:38Where all the junk is.
03:40There you go.
03:41Now that we've got two stores, I'm feeling way more pressure to fill up the van.
03:48Hello!
03:49How you doing?
03:50Hi!
03:51Yeah, we saw your junk cars out here, man.
03:53And I thought we'd stop.
03:55I'm Mike.
03:55I'm Gary.
03:56Hi, my name's Danielle.
03:57Nice to meet both of you.
03:58Off the bat, Gary seems like a really cool guy.
04:01And looking around on his property, he's either got some great junk or he knows somebody that does.
04:06We're pickers from Iowa.
04:07I don't know if you've ever dealt with pickers.
04:08Have you collect anything or have you deal with car parts?
04:10You know, I've been accused of picking.
04:13My wife called me Fred G. Sanford.
04:16Fred G. Sanford?
04:18I can kind of see that.
04:20Well, you know what?
04:20He loves Sanford.
04:21I got a little bit of Sanford and Son in me.
04:23Yeah.
04:23Yeah, I mean, the thing is for us, like, we're about a thousand miles away from home.
04:27We have a shop in Iowa and we buy and sell a lot of stuff.
04:30I like transportation stuff.
04:31The reason we stopped is because we saw all the old cars.
04:34And there's plenty of those around here.
04:35So, what are you, you're in the body shop business at the time?
04:37Yeah, I've been running the body shop here for about 40 years.
04:40I've been in the paint and body business practically all my life.
04:43Can we take a look around?
04:44Yeah.
04:45Worked on old cars.
04:47And I'm proud of my work.
04:48And when you're proud of your work, you do a much better job.
04:51Come on, we go up on the hill here and y'all can just explore through the building.
04:55All right.
04:55And I'll just have a good time.
04:57I love the old cars.
04:58And that's been my downfall, really.
05:01I'd probably have a whole lot more money in my pocket if I hadn't bought all these old cars.
05:08Damn!
05:09Oh, man.
05:10Look at this, Danny.
05:13Whoa!
05:14Holy cow.
05:15A whole lot of pretty in this room.
05:16Gary's garage is awesome.
05:18If you want to see classic cars in tip-top shape, he's got them.
05:21Guess it was 1956.
05:24Fairlane.
05:24My eyes are popping out of my head.
05:28What about this gas pump over here?
05:30That's an old Atlantic gas pump.
05:32And they call it a clock face dial.
05:34Yep.
05:35I see that.
05:35You're exactly right.
05:36It's made by Wayne.
05:37This pump is one of the classic Wayne clock face designs.
05:40The Wayne company revolutionized the service station industry in 1933 when they came out with the first computing pump.
05:55What's cool about it is you could have changed the sign out on it.
05:57You could have changed the glass panel out on it.
05:59Different brands.
06:00Even though these pumps were usually made for a specific oil company, if a service station changed hands, all they
06:05had to do was change the signage.
06:07Is this something you'd sell?
06:09Yeah.
06:10Mike would sell it.
06:11Yeah.
06:11What are you looking at in something like that?
06:14A thousand.
06:15A thousand bucks?
06:16Yeah.
06:16At a thousand dollars, I can see that Gary's serious about selling, but I think I can do better.
06:21How about, uh, how about 800 bucks?
06:25What about 900?
06:30I'll step up a little bit.
06:31I'd do eight and a quarter.
06:34Deal.
06:35All right, cool.
06:36All right.
06:37That's a big icebreaker.
06:39I'm extremely happy to get this pump.
06:41It's in amazing condition.
06:42Anybody that loves Petroliana is going to want this pump.
06:46Oh.
06:47What year is this Dodge?
06:48It's, uh, 1933.
06:51That's cool, man.
06:53So did you restore this one?
06:54I did.
06:55Wasn't nothing here but decaying, and when I found it, it was a tree growing up through it.
07:00We had to cut the tree down to get it out.
07:01Really?
07:03I was raised on a tobacco farm.
07:05My daddy was kind of a backyard mechanic, and eventually I started my own business.
07:11Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
07:12Check this out.
07:13Oh, yeah.
07:14What do we have here?
07:17You like that pink, don't you?
07:18Yeah, I really do.
07:20Damn, I.
07:21So I spot this cool old pink jukebox.
07:24It was really neat.
07:25Oh, man, this is awesome.
07:27It will sell.
07:28I know it will.
07:37That is super cool.
07:39This right here raises up.
07:41Okay.
07:42The disc turns.
07:43It lights up beautiful.
07:45That's rad.
07:46Jukeboxes can be extremely tricky.
07:48There's all different kinds, and some are more collectible than others.
07:51Selling point?
07:52Heart.
07:53Barracuda.
07:53What this one has going for it, it's from the 1950s.
07:56It's in great shape, and it still works.
07:59Where'd you get it at?
08:00Man, when I had in the paper for a billy goat, well, I wanted a billy goat to put behind
08:04the shop to eat the grass.
08:06Uh-huh.
08:06So I went to get the billy goat.
08:09This was sitting on the front porch.
08:10Instead of getting the goat, I got this.
08:12No doubt.
08:13So what are you thinking for this?
08:16I mean, what would you sell it for?
08:21I'm thinking $2,500.
08:26That made me a little nauseous.
08:28That's a nausea price for me.
08:30I don't think that I could really put much more than $1,000 into it.
08:34No, I can't sell it for a thousand.
08:36I'm thinking at the best, maybe $2,000.
08:40Can't do that.
08:41Can't do that.
08:42Danielle's not used to picking items in this price range, but you know what?
08:46There's a picker born every day.
08:47It's a really good piece, and it's in good condition, but that's going to have to be replaced,
08:52and the arm's going to have to be replaced.
08:53It does need some repairs.
08:54That's something I'm going to have to factor in.
08:57I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
09:00My final offer.
09:03Take it or leave it.
09:06$1,500.
09:11$1,500.
09:11$1,500.
09:12Awesome.
09:14Dang.
09:15Woo!
09:16It was definitely a happy days moment for me.
09:18Put a little Hank on there, some Johnny Cash, maybe some Loretta Lynn.
09:22I know I can sell it.
09:23I just don't want to sell it too fast.
09:25All right.
09:26I got to hand it to Danielle.
09:27It was hot in there, but she pulled it off, and she made me proud.
09:31All right.
09:31You got anything else for us to look at?
09:33How about anything motorcycle related?
09:35You know, I got an old motorcycle out in the woods.
09:38When somebody tells me they've got something laying out in the woods, I don't have high hopes.
09:42Too often, the weather's gotten the best of it.
09:44Uh-oh.
09:45Here it is, Mike.
09:48Dang.
09:48I can't believe what I'm looking at.
09:50Danny, help do this.
09:51This is a mid-1930s motorcycle carcass.
09:55Nah.
09:56For an Indian.
09:57Incredible.
10:00This is a chief.
10:01This was the top of the line.
10:03You know, you went into the dealership.
10:05You want to spend some money.
10:06You want the real deal.
10:07You're going to get the chief.
10:17It's amazing, because usually you find a fork, or you find a frame, or you'd be lucky to even find
10:22a set of handlebars.
10:23The fact that so much of this bike is here, that's what's incredible.
10:27In 1940, Indians skirted these fenders where they drop down the sides of the fender.
10:33But the guys that are the true enthusiasts, they want stuff that's more streamlined.
10:38In these mid to late 30s, chiefs are much harder to find.
10:42What makes this frame rare is that it's an early big twin Indian chief.
10:47I mean, would you sell it?
10:49I would consider selling it.
10:52I'd be interested in it for like $1,500.
11:01I'd be interested in it for like $1,500.
11:07This chassis needs a lot of work.
11:09The front fork legs are cracked, and you can build a bird nest out of the gas tank, but given
11:13its rarity, I've got to have it.
11:15I was thinking it's more around $2.
11:19I wouldn't have a problem giving you the $2 if the fork legs weren't cracked.
11:25When I look at this, I can see the work that's put into it.
11:28Well, I can see what's got to be done.
11:29It's like you looking at one of those $4s.
11:32Can you do $18?
11:36I could do $16, and that's it.
11:45$16,000.
11:47$16,000.
11:47All right.
11:48$2,000.
11:49All right, thanks.
11:51This is my favorite look on Mike's face when he's like a giddy kid on Christmas morning.
11:55I love it.
11:56It's too cute.
11:56He spotted a great freestyle.
11:58I'm going to ride this baby home.
12:00This has been an amazing pick.
12:02We've got an Indian frame, a gas pump, and a jukebox.
12:05This is pickin' folklore, freestyle at its highest level.
12:09Heavy.
12:10Heavy ain't the word.
12:12I paid $1,600 for the Indian frame and fork.
12:15I'm going to ask $3,000.
12:17One, two, three.
12:19Hey, you got it.
12:20I paid $825 for the Wayne gas pump.
12:23I'm going to ask $1,800.
12:27Ah!
12:28Take it easy.
12:29Careful.
12:30I paid $1,500 for this jukebox.
12:33I'm going to get it appraised.
12:37Gary, thanks, man.
12:39Really enjoyed it, bud.
12:40Thanks for letting us look around.
12:40Yeah, boy.
12:41I'm glad we stopped.
12:43You're a tough negotiator, my friend.
12:45Had a great time.
12:46Likewise.
12:47We did, too.
12:48For us freestylin' and stopping by, you're a hell of a nice guy, man.
12:51This day is probably one of the best days that I've had in a long time.
12:56All right, thanks, buddy.
12:57Take care.
12:57Y'all come back.
12:58I feel satisfied with what I got, and I think they feel satisfied with what they paid.
13:03I got so much stuff.
13:04There's no way I could miss it.
13:06Thanks, buddy.
13:08Y'all have a safe trip.
13:13Hold on.
13:14Here's another lead coming in.
13:15Look at this one.
13:16Look at that one.
13:17Uh-oh.
13:18Look at all those oil cans.
13:19I'm still waiting for the guy that's supposed to come here and look at the Plymouth.
13:22But, man, it is hard to get anything done with these dogs.
13:27Antique Archaeology.
13:28Hi.
13:29Hey, Danny.
13:30Guess what we did.
13:31What do you do?
13:32I bought a jukebox.
13:33A jukebox?
13:34Oh, cool.
13:34That sounds cool.
13:35I need you to get it appraised.
13:37I'm trying to keep up with leads coming in, take these dogs for walks, make sure they get out.
13:42Are you stressing a bit?
13:44What?
13:44No?
13:45I got everything under control.
13:46So, I'll find an appraiser, and I'll be looking for the machine between Wednesday and Friday.
13:51You know, watching the dogs, that's hard enough.
13:53But, I mean, to top it off, Danielle found a jukebox.
13:55I need to find an appraiser.
13:57All right.
13:58Bye.
13:58Okay.
13:59Bye.
14:00Man.
14:02That boy sounds busy.
14:03Okay.
14:03You guys are cramping my life here.
14:08Okay.
14:09Here's what I have for us.
14:10Henry Burnett is his name.
14:12What does he have?
14:13He's got a few tractor trailers.
14:15What do you mean a few tractor trailers?
14:16Empty ones or full ones?
14:17Well, hopefully they're full.
14:19All right.
14:19I'm in.
14:20Okay.
14:20Sweet.
14:22I think this is it.
14:23This has got to be it, because there's a gas pump out here.
14:25Oh, sweet.
14:26Right away, I spot this gas pump, and I see this Coca-Cola button.
14:29I'm thinking, okay, I'm in Virginia, but I'm home.
14:34Hey, how's it going?
14:35Hi.
14:35Henry?
14:36Yeah.
14:36Danielle.
14:37The first thing I think is, this dude is a southern mountain man.
14:41Really cool.
14:42This is gorgeous.
14:43Is this where your double-wide trailer was?
14:46No, it was a little log cabin.
14:48It was built in the early 20s.
14:50When I was a kid, we used to come out, camp out here in the back.
14:54I said, this is for me right here.
14:56This would be it for me out here, too.
14:58I could sit on the front porch, cast line over the pond, never miss a beach, you know.
15:03How long ago did that burn down?
15:05Burned down January the 5th of this year.
15:08Oh, not too long ago, then.
15:10The house fire started from a chimney.
15:12So you just had to kind of pick up the pieces and redo everything?
15:15Yeah.
15:16I certainly didn't even want to build a new house this time in my life, but you got to do
15:22what you got to do.
15:23Henry's basically starting over from scratch.
15:25Hopefully, we can get some money in his pocket today.
15:27Daniel said you had a couple tractor trailers full of stuff, or...?
15:31Uh, house trailers.
15:32Henry tells us that he's got some old house trailers that are so full of stuff that nobody can live
15:37in them.
15:38I'm starting to get really excited.
15:40So where can we start?
15:41We can start with the trailer and work on up.
15:43These look like they've been here for a while.
15:45Jump on in there, Danny.
15:51The first trailer, packed to the gills, full of stuff.
15:54Oh.
15:54I collect anything from in the 50s back, any kind of sign.
15:59Pick them up most of the time at auctions and yard sales.
16:03Ooh, golf flex.
16:04First thing I see hanging on the wall is a porcelain letter golf sign.
16:08Is that a local piece?
16:10Uh, yeah.
16:10They came out the Chrysler dealership.
16:13The Chrysler dealership?
16:14Yeah.
16:15It was actually inside on the wall next to the lift.
16:18Had some original pictures of Walter Chrysler.
16:21Really?
16:22A bunch of that stuff.
16:23Whoa.
16:32I'm looking at the sign.
16:34It's got porcelain letters, not plastic.
16:36So it's earlier, no chips, no cracks.
16:39What do you got to have for this sign, Henry?
16:40Take a hundred bucks for it.
16:42The type of person that's going to buy this sign is anybody that's into gas and oil related
16:46stuff, anybody into transportation, the kind of stuff we specialize in.
16:52I'll pop on it.
16:53Thanks.
16:54That's a good deal.
17:01Find anything, Danny?
17:02Yeah.
17:03I'm kind of liking this one right here.
17:05What do you know about this?
17:06The first thing that I'm absolutely in love with is this toolbox that has these rivets or
17:12spikes on the top.
17:14I bought it at auction.
17:15It was a carpenter, and he got tired of his hide.
17:18I had help walking over and sitting on his toolbox, so he put those spikes on top to keep
17:24them from sitting on it.
17:25That's just genius.
17:27That would not stop me.
17:29Look.
17:33Woo.
17:35Help me here.
17:38I had to sit on the toolbox.
17:39I couldn't help it.
17:40If I'm told no, I have to do it.
17:43What do you think you'd want to have for it?
17:48I'd have to have 75.
17:51This toolbox has spikes on it.
17:53It was made for me.
17:56Yeah.
17:57I'm in.
17:57Okay.
17:58I'll take you 75.
17:59I got a deal.
18:00All right.
18:01I could not be happier about that transaction.
18:04Ladies first.
18:05All right.
18:06Chase the ticks out of there.
18:07Wouldn't that be you, Cullen?
18:13Henry, how much for this old football helmet?
18:15It's plastic on the outside, but the whole padding system on the inside is leather.
18:19We've got a lot of patina on it, doesn't it?
18:20Mm-hmm.
18:21It's missing the face guard, but still, it's got great color.
18:25The manufacturer's name's on the front of it.
18:26I think I can make some money on this thing.
18:29Want me to make you an offer?
18:30Uh, yeah.
18:3320 bucks.
18:3420 bucks.
18:34Good.
18:35Good enough.
18:36All right.
18:38There's still a ton of stuff everywhere.
18:40Danny and I are about ready to kick this pick into overdrive.
18:43I'm digging on these.
18:44I give you 25 for this one.
18:46This one, 15.
18:47Okay.
18:48Done.
18:51Frog doorstop.
18:5220 bucks.
18:53All right.
18:54All right.
18:5420 bucks.
18:55What about this Douglas battery tester?
18:59I'll take 25.
19:00I'll take, okay, 25.
19:01Good deal.
19:02Danny's really starting to impress me here.
19:04She's picking stuff that I would pick.
19:08Look at that.
19:10Bathtoe full of heaters.
19:12I feel like this whole place is just going to tip over.
19:14It's like the side adventure pick.
19:16Yeah.
19:20I have something that I'm interested in.
19:22Rope cutter?
19:23Yeah.
19:23I find this really cool rope cutter.
19:25It's porcelain signage.
19:27The colors were great.
19:28The patina was great.
19:29It was just, it was a perfect piece.
19:31I couldn't believe that Mikey didn't pick that out.
19:33So what do you have to have for the rope cutter?
19:35120.
19:36120.
19:38I can't do that much.
19:40Danielle's being smart here.
19:41At $120, there's no room left for profit.
19:44I was thinking more like 30 or 40.
19:47I started out with 120, thinking she'd give me 100.
19:51How about 75?
19:56How about 50?
20:02Oh, I enjoyed haggling with both of them.
20:04But she was a little bit tough on me on that.
20:07It's kind of a gamble for me to take it, but it's a pretty piece.
20:14All right, I'll go 50.
20:1650's good?
20:17All right, cool.
20:18All right, good deal.
20:19Not having any need for it, I sold it to her for $50.
20:23Watch your step.
20:24The rope cutter that she bought.
20:26Lots of detail to it.
20:27It's mechanical.
20:27It's got advertising on it.
20:29I mean, she gets it.
20:30Ooh, what's this?
20:32It says Eastside Cycle Club.
20:34I'm like, what's up with this?
20:36Always.
20:36Always bikes out there?
20:37There's always bikes, and they were always horses.
20:40It was a closed-down gas station that was used as an African-American motorcycle gang clubhouse.
20:46I'm like, what?
20:47Ooh, what's this?
20:49It's definitely a 60's Coca-Cola sign.
20:52I look down at the bottom, and it says Eastside Cycle Club.
20:56I'm like, what's up with this?
20:57When I was young, I used to drive by it, and it was in the front of an old service
21:03station.
21:04What was that like when you were driving by it?
21:05Was there always bikes out there?
21:07There was always bikes, and they were always horses.
21:10It was a closed-down gas station that was used as an African-American motorcycle gang clubhouse.
21:15I'm like, what?
21:27So those guys had their colors and everything?
21:29They had their coats and all that stuff?
21:30Yeah, all of them had their leather coats and the badges.
21:34It was scary, but I loved it.
21:36Yeah.
21:36I saw them for years and years and years over there, and then it disappeared.
21:42And I'd always wanted it, and it showed up later at an antique store.
21:47You saw it, and you knew exactly what it was.
21:49Oh, yeah.
21:50I did an immediate turnaround and went back and bought it.
21:54This is an amazing story.
21:57I buy a lot of signs, tons of advertising, but to me, this has got to be one of the
22:01best
22:02pieces I've ever seen.
22:03I just fell in love with it.
22:05Well, I'm falling in love with it.
22:07Would you sell it?
22:08Yes, sir.
22:09I would.
22:09What do you got to have for it?
22:11I'll take $300 for it.
22:15I'm always looking for something that's different, something that sparks imagination.
22:20I've got to have this thing.
22:24Would you do $250?
22:29I'd go $275.
22:36I love it, man.
22:38Thank you so much.
22:39I love it, too.
22:40I understand completely, but if you ain't got the room for it, I know what that's like.
22:44I just don't have any place to put it.
22:46All of a sudden, I own one of the rarest signs from Danville, Virginia.
22:50You on it?
22:51Yeah.
22:51Okay.
22:52Henry is an awesome guy.
22:54He even offered to carry our stuff to the van for us.
22:56I love a gentleman.
22:58I start getting some of this stuff unloaded.
23:00I paid $275 for this sign.
23:03On the open market, it's probably worth like $700.
23:07I got this awesome rope cutter for $50.
23:09I know I can sell it for $150 at the shop.
23:13The golf porcelain letter sign I paid $100 for.
23:16I'm going to ask $2.25.
23:19You can go in the back of here.
23:21Mike and Daniel, they were just super nice, and it's just been a fun day for me.
23:26See you, Henry.
23:27See you later.
23:31Good afternoon.
23:32I was wondering if you guys could do a priz on a jukebox for me.
23:35What's the price on that?
23:37Pardon me?
23:39Wow.
23:40The jukebox just arrived, but all my appraisers are unavailable.
23:43Now I've got to hit the phones and find somebody new.
23:46Hold on.
23:46Somebody else is calling in.
23:47Hold on.
23:49Hello?
23:50Yeah.
23:51Hey, Mom.
23:51Huh?
23:52I'm having a hard enough time watching my mom's dogs.
23:54I was there this morning letting them both out.
23:56I mean, can't they wait like three hours?
23:57I got to go.
23:58There's another call coming in.
23:59Handling the phone calls.
24:00Hello?
24:01When do I have time to find an appraiser?
24:03So you know what?
24:04I'm doing my best here.
24:05I was wondering if I could get an appraisal on a jukebox I bought.
24:08Oh, you don't do those?
24:09I hit the Rolodex.
24:11I'm looking for a guy that might be able to appraise a jukebox.
24:14Four weeks?
24:16You know anybody that does that kind of stuff?
24:18Oh, wow.
24:19Okay.
24:19Good afternoon.
24:20Hello.
24:21I'm looking for a guy named Ron.
24:22Finally, I come across this guy named Ron.
24:24He says he's been collecting for 20, 25 years.
24:26That fits your schedule?
24:28Fantastic.
24:29He sounds like the guy.
24:33Antique Archaeology?
24:34Hi there, man.
24:35Hey, I got the Plymouths outside.
24:37It's all ready to go.
24:38I got it all cleaned up.
24:40Oh, you're kidding me.
24:42Really, man?
24:42I mean, I got the car.
24:46Your wife?
24:47I've been working on the car.
24:48I'm waiting on this guy.
24:49And now he's not interested?
24:51All right.
24:51Well, that's great.
24:52Well, I'll tell you what.
24:53If your wife changes her mind and she'll let you buy it, then give me a call.
24:58All right?
24:59I can't believe that my buyer canceled on me.
25:01I could be out on the road picking.
25:03Now I'm back here doing Danielle's job.
25:06Wow.
25:09All right.
25:10You got your picker journal?
25:11Yeah, I do.
25:12Where are we going today, Grandma?
25:14I'll see, Pops.
25:15We are going to Duck Vaughn.
25:19This is going to be a rad trip.
25:21His uncle actually used to work in petroleum business, so he has a bunch of gas and oil
25:25stuff.
25:26He's got signage, brand new, old stock.
25:28Man.
25:29Yeah, this is going to be a sweet one.
25:30And his grandpa used to own a general store.
25:33Gas and oil and general store.
25:34Mm-hmm.
25:35Cash and oil and general store.
25:35G to Z, baby.
25:36I think it'll be awesome.
25:37I think it's going to be really rad.
25:38All right.
25:39Cool.
25:39This is where the rubber hits the road, and we see if everything you said is gospel.
25:45Because a lot of times, me and Frankie show up, and the stuff isn't what you said
25:49it was.
25:50Okay, here's the deal.
25:51If they do have what I said they do have, guess what?
25:54I'll be excited.
25:55You're buying me lunch.
25:56I'll get you a $5 footlong.
25:58Howie.
25:59Typical suburban house, white picket fence.
26:01It looks very clean.
26:02I'm thinking Danielle oversold it.
26:04All right.
26:07Hello?
26:08Hey, Doug.
26:09Danielle?
26:10Danielle, nice to meet you.
26:11I talked with you on the phone.
26:12First impression, he just looks to be a sincere Southern gentleman.
26:16Danielle is something.
26:18Never have seen anybody with that many tattoos.
26:21How's it going?
26:21I'm Mike.
26:22Mike.
26:22Danny said your family's in the gym.
26:24One of my uncles was an Amoco oil representative.
26:27Uh-huh.
26:28Uncle Bill, we call him.
26:29He did everything from own filling stations to built them, sold them.
26:35I think he spent about 45 years in the company there.
26:3745 years?
26:38That's right.
26:39So he acquired a lot of different stuff.
26:41Let's snoop around.
26:42You want to look around a little bit?
26:43Yeah, let's keep around.
26:44Amoco is a gas and oil company that started in 1889 as Standard Oil.
26:48They had some of the most celebrated advertisements and iconic logos of any gas and oil company.
26:54Let's hit the basement, I guess.
26:55Go ahead.
26:57We go down and see tons of cool stuff.
27:01There's boxes stacked everywhere.
27:03I see posters.
27:04I see banners.
27:05I see signs.
27:06I see oil cans.
27:07Everything that we love in this basement.
27:10Well, why did you decide to start selling a few things?
27:14Well, it's either going to sit down here and mold and mildew and rot, or maybe I can pick
27:20up a nickel or two here and there.
27:22I've got four children to put through college.
27:24You'll get started with it anyway.
27:26And that'll make a little nest egg to get going with.
27:29All right.
27:30Well, let's see what's in that box right there, Dani.
27:32Yeah, that's what I was just being nosy about.
27:34What's this right here?
27:36This could have been maybe like a license plate placard or something.
27:39Check this.
27:40Oh, yeah.
27:40That's cool.
27:41Make a little pile over here.
27:42Let's look at these.
27:43Here's a bunch of posters right here.
27:44You got a knife on you?
27:45I do.
27:47You do?
27:48Look at this girl, man.
27:50She brought her switchblade.
27:51All right, let me see here.
27:53What do we got going on here?
27:55Oh, yeah.
27:55These are cool.
27:56Look at what it is.
27:57Super rad.
27:58Red, white, and blue.
28:00American marches ahead.
28:01American gas.
28:02These would have hung on the wall in a service station to let people know about a new product.
28:07I could see the colors.
28:08They were bright, but also I saw the Norman Rockwell art.
28:12And then we've got Norman Rockwell's insignia here.
28:15These banners are going to appeal to not just gas and oil collectors, but also art collectors.
28:29Those are really cool.
28:30So how many are there?
28:31Looks like 10 of them here.
28:33There's a couple rolled up over here, too.
28:35What are those?
28:35Let's see those, too.
28:37I'll hatch.
28:37Yeah.
28:38What's that?
28:40Oh, this is really cool.
28:42Finest motor fuel on earth.
28:44They're like brand new.
28:46Yeah.
28:46These big blue Amoco banners are new old stock.
28:49They're in amazing condition.
28:50But I think the real money is in the Norman Rockwell banners.
28:54Unfortunately, they're not in great condition.
28:56There's a lot of water staining here.
28:57There's a lot of moth holes.
28:59I'd probably want $100 and a quarter each.
29:02And I'd probably want to keep half of them anyway.
29:05So you're saying $125 a piece if I bought five?
29:08Mm-hmm.
29:08I'd feel better at $100 a piece if I bought five.
29:12I'd feel a little bit better if it was a little bit more.
29:19All right.
29:19Well, hey, how many did he have of those, Danny?
29:21Three.
29:22How about one of those?
29:23So I'll buy six.
29:25$600.
29:27I'm working on college tuition.
29:29I hear you, man.
29:29These ones do have damage.
29:31So we're talking about bucking a quarter for the five, throw in one.
29:37Yeah.
29:38All right.
29:39All right.
29:40All right.
29:40That's what we call breaking the ice.
29:42These banners are amazing, and they're the first thing I pull out.
29:46If the rest of this stuff is this good, it's going to be an amazing pick.
29:49Find anything, Danny?
29:51Keep bird-dogging it, girl.
29:54That's it.
29:55What's in a lot of these trunks?
29:57This was Granddaddy's trunk and had a lot of his stuff in it.
30:00I hadn't looked in it in a while, but it was a lot of crazy stuff.
30:03You got my attention at Granddaddy and crazy stuff.
30:05Can we look in there?
30:06Yeah.
30:07There we go.
30:09There you go.
30:10All right.
30:10You ready?
30:13Mike is rooting through that place like a spider monkey all hopped up on Mountain Dew.
30:17Love it.
30:18Love it.
30:18Love it.
30:19This place is amazing.
30:21I did a good job.
30:23Why am I nervous?
30:24I don't know.
30:25Why are you nervous?
30:26Because if you're not nervous, it's adrenaline.
30:27It's adrenaline.
30:28I like adrenaline.
30:30I know.
30:31I know.
30:31There you go.
30:32All right.
30:32You ready?
30:34All right.
30:34Let's check out this.
30:36Look at these.
30:36I see something about their gauntlet gloves in there.
30:39I see an old pair of pinstripe coveralls.
30:42Now, I would assume that that would be Granddaddy's suit.
30:45This is Granddaddy's suit?
30:46Yeah.
30:46I mean, this is his box.
30:48Look at the back.
30:50Oh, man.
30:50That's tight.
30:51These coveralls were worn by somebody that worked at the service station.
30:54The guy that was wrenching.
30:56The guy that came out and washed your windshield.
30:58The guy that actually filled your tank back then.
31:00What are those?
31:00His pants?
31:01Check it.
31:02Oh, yeah.
31:03How about the leggings?
31:04And the leggings?
31:06Yeah.
31:06Maybe do something with those, too.
31:08These coveralls are incredible.
31:09They look like they're from the late 1930s.
31:11The only thing I'm missing now is the hat.
31:13Now, what are you thinking on this stuff?
31:15He was kind of surprised that I wanted to buy this old clothing.
31:18The vintage clothing's always been hot.
31:19Gas and oil stuff's hot.
31:21I've got to have this.
31:22Can I make you an offer?
31:23Yeah.
31:24I'll make you an offer on this stuff.
31:25Okay, on this stuff right here, 200 bucks.
31:30All right.
31:31Doug couldn't shake my hand fast enough.
31:34Uh-oh.
31:35So we go into this other building.
31:36Mike jumps in there.
31:38He is rooting through that place like a spider monkey all hopped up on Mountain Dew.
31:42Love it.
31:43Love it.
31:43Love it.
31:43Four cents.
31:44Gas.
31:45Tax.
31:45Six and a half.
31:46Total.
31:46Ten and a half.
31:47The more I dug, the better it got.
31:50I've been digging in the cabinet over there.
31:52Who's that?
31:53That is Uncle Bill.
31:54That's Uncle Bill.
31:55I got that.
31:57I.J. Robinson.
31:59Automobile, Club of Virginia, and then the Amoco hat.
32:03Oh, man.
32:04And then I've got a little ashtray, stick pen.
32:07This is a honey hole of Amoco items from the 1930s to the 1950s.
32:12Every single one of these pieces is collectible.
32:14What are you thinking on this stuff?
32:16The hat, I've got to have 75 bucks.
32:21All right, I'm still listening.
32:23To me, the hat is key.
32:24It's from the same era as the uniform that I already bought.
32:27I can sell the whole thing as a set.
32:29All right, we're talking about 1937, 34, a couple of shirt pins, $1.50.
32:35For all of it?
32:36Yeah.
32:38How about $1.25?
32:41$1.25.
32:42$1.25.
32:43High five.
32:44What's up?
32:44All right.
32:45I'm pumped to have this hat.
32:46It's got the early Amoco logo that so many people recognize.
32:51Might be a old snake playing in there somewhere.
32:53All right.
32:54And y'all can handle snakes.
32:56All right, I see a few things in here.
32:58Danny D, Ewan, you coming in?
33:00I'm coming.
33:00I'm going to head out and check on the kids.
33:02All right.
33:03We'll dig around.
33:04Cool.
33:04So Doug leaves us alone for a moment to go through his trailer, and right away, I see
33:08a lot of things I'm interested in.
33:10I love these bikes.
33:11That sign's killer.
33:13This is a killer place.
33:15Oh, what?
33:16In my good ear, please?
33:20All right.
33:20You were right.
33:21I was wrong.
33:22Yeah.
33:23For once, I'll give you that.
33:25This place is amazing.
33:26I know.
33:28Mike and I had a bonding moment.
33:29I'm not kidding you, man.
33:30I haven't seen this.
33:31Look at this.
33:31Look at these lights.
33:32And he basically says he's proud of me.
33:34You know how hard it is to find a place like this.
33:37I did a good job.
33:38Why am I nervous?
33:39I don't know.
33:40Why am I nervous?
33:41You're not nervous.
33:42You're not nervous.
33:42It's adrenaline.
33:43It's adrenaline.
33:44I like adrenaline.
33:45I know.
33:46Dig in.
33:47I'll hand you stuff.
33:48Marty.
33:48You handing me stuff?
33:49Yeah.
33:50I'm already caught.
33:50We'll ask him about this.
33:52Hand me some of that lighting.
33:53All that lighting.
33:54That's killer, man.
33:56Can I just hear it one more time?
33:58I was wrong.
33:59You were right.
34:00Give me that.
34:02I can't believe I'm hearing these words.
34:04You're right from Mike Wolfe.
34:06And Frankie isn't even here to see it.
34:08What do you think?
34:09Well, I've got this shelf.
34:11I thought it was cool just because it's got advertisement on it.
34:13And it's two levels.
34:14That's right.
34:15All this lighting.
34:16Two, four, six, and then a straggler.
34:19What are you thinking on this stuff?
34:20A hundred bucks.
34:22Mike is just finding more and more and more and more rusty gold.
34:27These are for the sidewalk signs.
34:29They're in the original box.
34:30Five hundred.
34:31One of each that's in new condition.
34:33All right.
34:33We'll get that.
34:34All right.
34:34Five hundred bucks.
34:35The more I dug, the more excited I got around every turn in every corner.
34:40Look at these.
34:40When I opened every box, there was something I wanted to buy.
34:44How much you got on a Coke book?
34:45You got a 200 apiece on there.
34:46One's 75.
34:47All right.
34:48Cool.
34:48All right.
34:48I can't believe Frankie's missing out on all of the action.
34:51This sign up here is really cool.
34:55And the clock.
34:56Right on the wall in front of our faces, a clock and a thermometer.
34:59Both Amoco.
35:01Mike stops dead in his tracks.
35:04He didn't even notice them.
35:06That's kind of my baby right there.
35:08All right.
35:08Understood.
35:09Oh.
35:10What about this one?
35:10Because that's kind of my baby right there.
35:14It's heavy, dude.
35:16Porcelain.
35:17It was porcelain.
35:18It was beautiful.
35:19It was an awesome, awesome gem of a find.
35:22Throw me a number.
35:24All right.
35:24A hundred bucks will do it.
35:26Eighty.
35:28Ninety-five.
35:31Okay.
35:31Solid.
35:32Ninety bucks.
35:32I'm totally cool with that just for the fact that I can say, Mike didn't even see it.
35:37I got it.
35:38So there's a couple cool signs left.
35:41Oh, yeah.
35:42There's three of these.
35:44Three of them?
35:44Where'd you get these at?
35:45I don't know.
35:45I was maybe 13 or so.
35:47Me and Daddy went down there and got them out of somebody's bone.
35:50Can we throw it in the yard right there?
35:51Pick this one up.
35:51Let's throw it in the yard and throw it out.
35:52Anyway, they're heaviest.
35:54Oh, get out.
35:55And I remember struggling with them then.
35:58Here, let's throw it.
35:58Here, just drop it right here.
35:59Let's throw it on this side.
36:01Oh, that side's awful.
36:03You're not supposed to look at that side.
36:04It's got a crease through it.
36:06I can see it.
36:07See this one.
36:08You want to get that side, Danny?
36:09She's a roller derby girl.
36:10Suck.
36:11Roller derby.
36:11Pick it up.
36:12Pick it up.
36:12Pick it up.
36:13All right.
36:13Drop her.
36:15Now, that side's pretty.
36:16These mobile gas signs are getting extremely hard to find.
36:19They're double-sided.
36:21They're porcelain.
36:21They're not in great condition, but they got the rare red Pegasus horse on them.
36:34This is the best one, obviously, right here.
36:37On this side.
36:38On this side.
36:40Hit me with a good number.
36:41I don't know.
36:42450 takes the stack.
36:44So, 150 apiece.
36:46Yeah.
36:48You've been gracious.
36:49You've been letting us look around.
36:52You've been giving us some decent deals on stuff.
36:54I'm going to do you better than that.
36:56This is a jukebox.
36:57What do you think?
36:58Well, I think this is one of the most desirable boxes you could have.
37:01This is AMI's crown jewel.
37:03What do you think it's worth in this condition?
37:08Hit me with a good number.
37:09I don't know.
37:10450 takes the stack.
37:12So, 150 apiece.
37:14Yeah.
37:16I'm going to do you better than that.
37:18I'm going to do you 200 apiece.
37:21That'll do.
37:22All right, my friend.
37:23All right.
37:23Thank you very much.
37:24Well, golly.
37:25How many other things did I underprice?
37:31This was a really cool pick for me because I love anything transportation related.
37:35I don't care if it was a notepad.
37:37I don't care if it was a decal.
37:38Doug had tons of this stuff.
37:41All right, Danny.
37:42Load them up.
37:43I'm going to load them up.
37:44We'll do it together.
37:45Danielle worked up a storm.
37:46You got it, girl?
37:47Mike knows what his customers want.
37:49He knows his business.
37:50I paid $600 for the three mobile gas signs.
37:54I'm going to ask $400 each.
37:56I need to go look and see if I have another roll of them.
37:59Oh, you might have another roll of these?
38:00I paid $100 each for the Amoco banners.
38:03I'm going to ask $300.
38:05Doug was a super cool guy.
38:06He knew his stuff, so he was a tough negotiator.
38:09Talk to me.
38:10What do you think?
38:10I was thinking $60.
38:11No, I'll keep them for that.
38:13I paid $95 for this thermometer.
38:15I'm going to sell it for $200 at the shop.
38:17All right.
38:18I think that's all of it.
38:19Oh, who's this?
38:20All right.
38:21Hey.
38:22So we're saying goodbye to Doug, and his little kiddos come out with these little guinea
38:26chicks in their hands.
38:27It was the cutest thing.
38:29You are too cute.
38:30So tiny.
38:31Is this one of your pets around here?
38:32It was just the most ideal way to take off.
38:35All right, my friend.
38:36Thank you so much.
38:37Good.
38:37Had a good time.
38:38Nice to meet you, folks.
38:39Nice to meet you.
38:39Nice to meet you, Emma.
38:41Bye.
38:41Bye-bye.
38:42See you.
38:44See you, guys.
38:45All right, guys.
38:46See you.
38:47See you.
38:47See you.
38:47See you.
38:48See you.
38:48See you.
38:49See you.
38:56Barracuda.
38:57My mom finally came back from Jamaica.
38:59She got the dogs.
39:01I'm finally free.
39:02Hello?
39:03Whoa.
39:04Frank?
39:05How you doing?
39:05Hi.
39:05I'm Ron.
39:06Oh, Ron.
39:07Oh, man.
39:07Thanks a lot for coming in.
39:09This is a jukebox.
39:09I started to get worried.
39:10I couldn't find anybody to come appraise this for me.
39:12It's tougher than it looks.
39:14Well, I'm glad to do it.
39:15I'm third generation in the amusement machine business.
39:19Restore the old pinballs and jukeboxes.
39:21Anything that took in a coin.
39:23What do you think?
39:24Well, I think this is one of the most desirable boxes you could have.
39:27Oh, this is, huh?
39:28Okay.
39:29You know, AMI, which stands for Automatic Musical Instrument Company, was actually founded in
39:331909.
39:34This is AMI's crown jewel.
39:46They got into jukeboxes in about 1927.
39:50So they came up with a mechanism that would play both sides of a record.
39:55Okay.
39:55So that revolutionized the jukebox industry.
39:58Wow.
39:58This is a 1958 model.
40:00Oh, okay.
40:01I wasn't too far off it.
40:01Now, they made this model in three versions.
40:05There was a 100 selection, which is this one.
40:07Okay.
40:08They made 120 and a 200.
40:10They probably only made 1,000 or maybe a little less on the 100 selection models.
40:15Okay, that sounds good.
40:16I was thinking to myself, here we go.
40:18Ka-ching.
40:20Well, there's signs of life.
40:22Got the turntable turned in.
40:23You've got all the interior is there.
40:26Your glass is in excellent shape.
40:28Your icicles, they're all there.
40:30So you got a lot of good things going on here.
40:33Okay.
40:33That jukebox, the color, the style, it has it all.
40:3750s Americana.
40:38Your belt is there and it's not in bad shape.
40:41A lot of times these will dry up.
40:42You know, the record's all look intact.
40:44Things need to be limbered up again, lubed up.
40:47Gotcha.
40:48It was really in nice shape for as long as it's been sitting in storage.
40:52And I don't think it'll take too much to get it back to rocking and rolling again.
40:56So, Ron, you've given me the pros, you've given me the cons.
40:59What do you think it's worth in this condition?
41:07You know, I think with some chrome polish, some elbow grease, clean it up inside and out, I think you'd
41:16get 2,000 bucks out of it.
41:18La, la, la, la, la, la, la la la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.
41:23Danielle can make $500 and that's not a bad profit.
41:26All she has to do is just clean it up a little bit.
41:29Thank you, Brent.
41:29Thanks, Ron.
41:31La, la, la, la, la.
41:38We're finally home, and I can't wait to find out how much my jukebox is worth.
41:43Ah, feels good in here.
41:44Came in one piece.
41:45Does it feel good to be back?
41:47Feels really good to be back.
41:48All right.
41:48Does it feel good to be working here in the shop now?
41:50Fine. Everything was fine here.
41:51Okay, I said good news and bad news.
41:53First thing is, it's a 1958.
41:56It's 100 play.
41:57I only made 1,000 of these.
41:59Oh, really?
42:00Okay.
42:01I kind of feel bad for Frank.
42:02He didn't sell the Plymouth, and he had to stay home and watch his mom's dogs.
42:05But I got to give it to him.
42:07He did nail it on the jukebox appraisal.
42:09So he said if you clean it up, just a little bit of elbow grease, it should be worth at
42:12least $2,000.
42:14Just cleaned up?
42:15Just cleaned up.
42:15It's going to take some elbow grease.
42:16It needs to be cleaned up here.
42:18That's what's arm broken and everything?
42:19Yeah, it's just the way it is, but looking a lot better.
42:21You know, it's got a few little things on here.
42:23That's a no-brainer.
42:24Just got to clean it up.
42:25Right.
42:27Somebody's got to clean it.
42:28Just clean it up a little bit.
42:29I picked it.
42:30You clean it.
42:33You're working at the shop now, man.
42:35She's fit in.
42:36You're sapping.
42:37I'll clean it.
42:37I don't care.
42:38I have to admit, it was pretty cool watching Frank polish the jukebox while me and Danielle
42:43are just kicking it.
42:44Think we should give him a raise?
42:46Um, I don't know about a raise.
42:48I was thinking, you know, since you have Groundhog Day off, maybe we can give him Arbor Day.
42:53Arbor Day.
42:54Arbor Day.
42:54That's a nice one.
42:56And that's why I love Frankie, because he can take it in stride.
42:59Wax on, wax off.
43:00Well, Danielle, just don't forget how to clean because I'm getting back out on the run.
43:04How are you?
43:05Uh-huh.
43:05Are you not going to start a dog babysitting business?
43:08I did it for my mom.
43:09That's it.
43:09You should call it puppy power.
