00:00Florida's great. It's 83 degrees here right now. It's hot.
00:06A mama needs some personal space right now.
00:09I got two words for you. Work harder.
00:12Cry babies.
00:13This is awesome.
00:14Wow.
00:15How would you describe this structure?
00:16It's just a geodesic dome on a space frame.
00:19How much is this Beatles Butcher album?
00:21In perfect condition, that's $39,000.
00:24This is the holy grail of Beatlemania. I want it.
00:27What's up with this boat?
00:29It's kind of like a piece of folk art.
00:31The detail, the construction of this piece is so cool.
00:34Is this something that you'd consider selling?
00:36I don't know.
00:38I'm Mike Wolfe.
00:40And I'm Frank Fretz.
00:42And we're Pickers.
00:44We travel the back roads of America looking for rusty gold.
00:48We're looking for amazing things buried in people's garages and barns.
00:53What most people see as junk, we see as dollar signs.
00:58We'll buy anything we think we can make a buck on.
01:02Each item we pick has a history all its own.
01:06And the people we meet, well, they're a breed all their own.
01:11We make a living telling the history of America one piece at a time.
01:20I just sent the boys off to Florida for a few weeks.
01:27A mama needs some personal space right now.
01:30So hopefully they'll have fun there.
01:32I'll have fun here.
01:34Florida's not the easiest place to pick.
01:36The weather's not ideal for picking there.
01:38You have salty sea air, which equals rust.
01:40Yes, yes, this is Danielle with Antique Archaeology.
01:43I don't want to send them to places and have big rusty piles of junk everywhere.
01:46You know, hopefully we can work past that and find some really good stuff.
01:49I'm doing my best.
01:51They better not give me any crap.
01:53We better come home with something for Danielle.
02:01I'm thinking some oranges, dude.
02:03Couple bags.
02:04Couple bags?
02:05We get a thousand oranges down here for five bucks.
02:08You can make orange marmalade.
02:10You can make orange margaritas.
02:12You can make orange sausage.
02:15Danielle's calling.
02:17Hey, hello.
02:18Hey guys, how's Florida?
02:20Florida's great.
02:21It's 83 degrees here right now.
02:23Woo!
02:24It's hot.
02:25It's only 10 o'clock.
02:26We haven't even reached the peak yet.
02:27Awesome.
02:28So the first lead I have for you is almost too good to be true.
02:30Alright, hit it.
02:31We're listening.
02:32It's a gentleman by the name of Steve Ko.
02:34He's got a huge collection of motorcycles.
02:36Woo-hoo!
02:37He's been just collecting and hoarding since he was eight years old.
02:41Here's the kick.
02:42Is he ready to sell?
02:43He is looking to sell.
02:44Apparently lots of his stuff's outside and it's probably not in the best condition.
02:47The elements have gotten to it.
02:49But with as many bikes as there are, you're bound to find something pretty sweet.
02:53I kind of think it's worth going and taking a look at.
02:55Give us the coordinates and we'll let you know.
03:03I'm fired up.
03:04This guy's got motorcycles, dude.
03:05I guess this guy's got some deep roots down here.
03:07He's been here since 1973.
03:09He used to be a motorcycle racer.
03:11He's got a lot of memorabilia and I'm sure he's got a lot of stories.
03:14This looks like a place.
03:15Hey.
03:16Good luck.
03:17Good luck keeping up with me.
03:20All right.
03:21This place didn't look like a pit.
03:23Watch out, dogs.
03:25Hello!
03:26This place looks like a bunker.
03:28Hello!
03:29Hey, how you doing?
03:31All right, how you doing?
03:32I'm good.
03:33How's this at?
03:34Hey, I'm Mike.
03:35Mike.
03:36Nice to meet you.
03:37Are you Cole?
03:38Yep.
03:39My name's Frank.
03:40Yeah, you talked to Danielle?
03:41Yep.
03:42This is my life dragging it home here waiting for somebody like you to come by.
03:44She said that you've been collecting since you were eight years old.
03:46Yeah, I still got my original training set.
03:48And this guy's still dumpster diving.
03:50This stuff is a sickness.
03:51It's a disease.
03:52And you know what?
03:53We're all infected.
03:54Can we look around a little bit?
03:55Sure.
03:56All right.
03:57So Frankie and I walked through the compound gate and then we see it, man.
04:03Tons of buildings.
04:04Tons of sheds.
04:05I mean, you can see all this stuff in the woods in the background.
04:09I started to get a really good feeling.
04:12How much property you got here?
04:13Just five acres.
04:14That's quite a bit.
04:15Oh, yeah.
04:17Oh, man, Frankie.
04:19Look at this.
04:21This is an old bumper car.
04:23The old car's standing.
04:26So you grew up down here in Florida, in Daytona?
04:28No, no.
04:29I was raised in Columbus, Ohio.
04:30And then you moved right to Florida?
04:31No, I moved to California in 66.
04:34So you were entrenched in Southern California, like the whole chopper scene.
04:37Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:38What was that like?
04:39Oh, crazy.
04:40Was it?
04:41Yeah, the police didn't like bikers back then.
04:42They was hard on them.
04:43In 1973, I moved here.
04:45The last few years, I've been doing demolition of motels.
04:49This isn't this stuff that you collect.
04:50I mean, it's actually a lifestyle.
04:52Yeah, that's exactly what it is.
04:53It's just a sickness.
04:54I don't know.
04:55I've had it all my life.
04:56It was dragging stuff home.
04:57I like to save stuff that's all rotted away and come back to life again.
05:00Uh-huh.
05:01I keep bringing some more stuff home.
05:03So I got to part with some of it sooner or later.
05:07Looking around, there's a lot to look at.
05:09So I think, I'm going to break the ice.
05:11What do you get on your signs up here, Cole?
05:13Oh, I really got no idea of whatever you want to offer me for.
05:15So that one doesn't appear to be old, but I know the Mason root beer one's old.
05:19Mm-hmm.
05:20Signs like these are very collectible.
05:21Also, finding one in original condition is great.
05:23I mean, I'm looking at like $75 on the root beer sign, maybe $25 for the Pepsi.
05:29Maybe like $100 for the pair.
05:31All right, off him a price.
05:33I've seen a glimmer in his eye.
05:34I've seen him start to think.
05:36I can do that, I guess.
05:37You all right?
05:38Sounds good.
05:39All right, that's cool.
05:40All right, I broke the ice.
05:41Things are looking good, but I'm hungry for the main course.
05:44Motorcycles, baby.
05:45One of the things as a picker you never get tired of is when somebody says, hey, you want
05:49to look in this shed, you walk over to the shed, and your heart is racing.
05:54Oh, there's an old 500 single cylinder.
05:57But then when he opened the door, me and Frankie both needed CPR.
06:03Yeah, that baby looks like it's back with the salt.
06:06This is Florida salt.
06:07A lot of oxidation.
06:09In our business, that's what we call roached.
06:11I mean, this thing was dusting.
06:12You interested, Frankie?
06:13Nah, I think I'll pass on that.
06:14Thanks for showing us all.
06:15You never know.
06:16I was thinking to myself, hmm, I hope the rest of the bikes don't look like this.
06:21All right.
06:22Well.
06:23It's a Jenga.
06:24You got Jenga.
06:26What you got?
06:27What's over there, bike?
06:28What's those kind of bikes?
06:29Most of these bikes right here are bike-bash bikes.
06:30They have this big motorcycle thing where they drop and smash motorcycles.
06:31I'll go after a bike where you can pick them all up and bring them all up.
06:33I'll go after a bike where you can pick them all up and bring them all up.
06:38I'll go after a bike where you can pick them all up and bring them all up.
06:40And I got a whole garage for them.
06:42Destroyed bikes.
06:43Daniel forgot to mention that this guy's whole bike collection was totally smashed.
06:48Sometimes I'll get them back together.
06:49You finished a lot of stuff.
06:50Oh, yeah, yeah.
06:51Okay.
06:52See, right now we got a totally different opinion.
06:54Prove us wrong that you do finish stuff.
06:56Okay.
06:57All right, let's see it.
06:58This is the workshop.
06:59So finally, we get into the first room.
07:01The first man room of Coe's.
07:03Yeah, here we go.
07:04Now this is better stuff.
07:06Frank, look at this man.
07:08This guy's got everything in there.
07:10He's got old trucks.
07:11He's got old cars.
07:12He's got a fire truck in there.
07:13When we walked into Steve's house, I'm thinking, why did we waste our time outside?
07:17This place is awesome.
07:18He's got mirrors on the ceiling.
07:19I know.
07:20The mirrors is incredible.
07:21Bam.
07:22Bow chicka chicka bow wow.
07:23This stuff is amazing, but I got to tell you, the mannequins are starting to creep me out.
07:27Hey, if you're gonna move that, you need a hand?
07:34Yeah.
07:35What?
07:36No, I'm good.
07:37All right, you good?
07:38What are you looking at?
07:39This is before the boss hogs.
07:40Oh, yeah.
07:41So I look down, and I'm like, it's a V8 Chevrolet truck engine on this motorcycle.
07:45I mean, it's knocking my socks off.
07:47This is the wildest thing I've seen.
07:48I know.
07:49A buddy of mine built one in the 60s, and I copied his.
07:52350, 350 horse, 1970 motor, four-speed Harley training.
07:56Okay.
07:57And I just took a Harley front section and a Harley rear section, and then homemade the
08:00frame in between them both out of a solid bar, so it's all bent different.
08:03There's no seat poster in there.
08:05And it's three and a half inches longer than the stock bike would have been.
08:08Man, you're a genius.
08:09This motorcycle, I mean, I am drawn to it like a moth to a flame.
08:13I've got to sit on it.
08:14I've got this thing to get some looks.
08:17Oh, it's heavy, too.
08:18Yeah, it weighs 925.
08:19Oh, it's heavy.
08:20Sitting on this motorcycle, I knew right then and there, I have to make an offer on this.
08:24I want it.
08:25Cole, this is one thing that's really interested me.
08:27I mean, I wouldn't be a picker if I didn't at least ask.
08:31Yeah, I wouldn't know what to even try to put a price on it.
08:34It's like one-of-a-kind type thing.
08:36You want me to put a price on it?
08:37Yeah, I'll take offers.
08:38I mean, you know, would 8,000 buy it?
08:41Mmm.
08:43That's probably all it's worth, but just because it's something of a kind and I'm kind of attached to it, I'd hate to sell for that cheap.
08:50Okay.
08:51You look good on it, Frankie.
08:52It looks like it was made for you.
08:53Plus, the motor sticks out wider than you do.
08:55I know, so that makes me look smaller.
08:56It does.
08:57You look good, dude.
08:58It's awesome.
08:59You look really good.
09:00I can't even remember the last time I've offered this much for anything.
09:04All I want to hear right now is the word deal.
09:06It's not even worth that much, but it's still like...
09:09It's more sentimental value than retail value.
09:12Right.
09:13This is one time that I got more excited than the seller.
09:15I still couldn't buy it.
09:19We walk into his motorcycle room.
09:21Right there, you see lots of 45 flatheads.
09:23You see VLs, you know.
09:25You see some JDs in there.
09:26Look at this nook.
09:27And then I'm fixated on the 37 nook.
09:39This is the nicest bike in here, man.
09:40By far.
09:41It is.
09:42It's all original.
09:43It's all matching numbers.
09:44That's a matching number sidecar.
09:45No doubt.
09:46It was a great bike.
09:47I mean, every single thing on it was real deal.
09:50How long have you had this?
09:5115 years.
09:52What condition was this in when you got it?
09:54It was all original.
09:55Original paint?
09:56Original paint.
09:57I took it all apart and just redid it all.
09:59With all the original parts.
10:00Never changed nothing off of it at all.
10:02I'm trying to come up with numbers in my mind really fast so I can make him an offer.
10:05She's a jewel.
10:06I've been offered big money for this and I just never would let it go.
10:09What have you been offered for this?
10:1050 grand.
10:11Right then and there, I knew I was out.
10:15It started to dawn on Frankie and I that we're not going to get any motorcycles today.
10:18We're starting to get frustrated.
10:19Looks like you got a couple 45 frames up here.
10:21What do you get out of those?
10:22I really haven't thought about selling them.
10:24We need to find something worth our time.
10:27Hey, what about this calendar in here?
10:291901 Frazee's Laundry.
10:30Is that something?
10:31That's a real one.
10:32I know, it's cool man.
10:33I know.
10:34The type of person that's going to buy this calendar is anybody that likes Native American stuff,
10:38somebody that's looking for a western motif.
10:401901.
10:41That's cool man.
10:42What's a crazy number on this?
10:44I don't know.
10:45Give me one.
10:46How about 100 bucks?
10:47I'd rather have to give 150.
10:49150.
10:52Seems like a lot for so little but...
10:53No, it's cool as heck man.
10:55This would have been something that just would have, you know, hung in the laundromat.
10:58Right.
10:59Yep.
11:00150 bucks.
11:01I think there's some room in there, but not much.
11:03How about 125?
11:05Alright.
11:06125?
11:07Alright.
11:08I love it.
11:09Finding something that's over a hundred years old in this condition, it's really rare.
11:17What's up with this boat?
11:18Do you know any history on it?
11:19Where'd you get it at?
11:20I have a guy's yard.
11:21He told me his wife didn't want it in her house anymore.
11:23I didn't say no more to him and a couple months later he seen me and he said,
11:26man, you want that boat that you saw in my backyard?
11:29And I said, oh, I'd be glad to have it.
11:30As I get closer to it, I can see that it's made out of metal.
11:33It's made out of wood.
11:34And the detail of this piece is amazing.
11:36This thing interests me, man.
11:38I mean, it almost, it's kind of like a piece of folk art.
11:40Yeah.
11:41I would consider it like folk art or something that somebody in the service probably was
11:45on that ship.
11:46Gotcha.
11:47I see some real potential in this boat.
11:48It's obviously handmade and has some real character to it.
11:51Is this something that you'd consider selling?
11:53I wouldn't know anything, what the price of that would be the problem.
11:57Well, it's like, you know what, it's like anything else, a crazy number.
12:00A crazy number to somebody is a number they put on something that they do not want to sell.
12:05I don't know.
12:06500 bucks.
12:07500 bucks.
12:08What about 400 bucks?
12:12Nah, I'm about to stick to my guns on this one.
12:18Five bills on that thing?
12:20Yeah.
12:21Seems like a lot for a toy, but it's not really a toy.
12:23The detail, the construction of this piece.
12:25I mean, for someone to make this, it probably took thousands and thousands of hours.
12:29It's been sitting up here for 10 years.
12:31Yeah.
12:32So $500 to him was a number that nobody would pay.
12:36500.
12:37Damn.
12:38How am I?
12:39You priced it, my friend.
12:40I know.
12:41You priced it.
12:42It's a cool piece.
12:43I gave it away, but that's all right.
12:44I don't think you gave it away.
12:45Believe me, I didn't jump on five right away.
12:46No.
12:47I mean, I think there's a little bit of room in it.
12:49$500 is no joke.
12:50It's definitely a risk, but I feel a whole lot better about this pick now.
12:54All right.
12:55All right, cool, man.
12:56Thanks for everything.
12:57We appreciate it.
12:58Thanks for letting us look around and get some amazing stuff.
13:00Yeah.
13:01Signs are always good, and they're easy to pack.
13:13I paid $500 for this boat.
13:15I'm going to have to get it appraised.
13:19I've never really been in the sell market before, but they've got to start sometime,
13:23so I guess now's as good time as ever.
13:26We'll be back for bike week.
13:27We'll see ya.
13:36Woo!
13:37Man.
13:38Got some great stuff inside as far as the stuff outside.
13:41The stuff outside was roached.
13:42I'm going to give Danielle a call.
13:47Hey, what's up?
13:48We were thinking about buying you a present when we were down here, but you know what?
13:51I'm over that.
13:52Uh-oh.
13:53The guy had some stuff.
13:54He did have his stuff outside, which was totally roached.
13:58Yeah.
13:59Nothing was too hot out there.
14:01The whole lead sucked.
14:02You didn't get anything out of it?
14:03We bought a boat from him.
14:05It's like folk art.
14:06It's a Navy ship.
14:07Might have you dive into buying us an appraiser on it.
14:09It's pretty cool.
14:10I'd like to know the history of it before we sell it.
14:13Well, listen.
14:14I'll find a great expert to assess the boat and...
14:16I say pick up your skirt and we'll start fresh.
14:19I got two words for you.
14:20Work harder.
14:22Frank and Mike, you just cool the jets a little bit.
14:25All right.
14:26See ya.
14:27Cry babies.
14:28You're getting old, brother.
14:29Man, you got more hair coming out of your ears than you do on your head now, dude.
14:40Really?
14:41Your back goes out more than you do.
14:44Hey, you know what?
14:45I mean, I don't care if your knees buckle more than your belt does.
14:52I'm excited about this appraisal.
14:55I got five large in this thing.
14:57I think you're gonna do fine.
14:58The reason I bought this boat is because of the detail.
15:01I mean, whoever made this thing was a true craftsman.
15:04So Frankie and I shot from the hip on this boat.
15:06We bought it and now Danny set up an appraisal for us to check out what it's worth.
15:09I'm not in business to break even.
15:10No, I think you're gonna be closer to doubling.
15:12We're bringing this boat to John of Affiliated Auctions.
15:15This guy's a specialist in Militaria.
15:17Hey, you John?
15:18How you doing?
15:19I'm John.
15:20Hey, I'm Mike.
15:21Hi, Mike.
15:22Did you talk to Danielle on the phone?
15:23Yeah, I talked to Danielle.
15:24Good to see it in the flesh here.
15:25Yeah.
15:26Nice to meet you.
15:27Good to meet you.
15:28Let me give you some background on this.
15:29The guy we got this from, he said he had it for about 10 or 15 years.
15:31It was hanging on the wall.
15:32But one of the things that appealed to me about it was just the way it was made.
15:36You know, I mean, the craftsmanship, the detail.
15:39What it really is is it's probably like naval trench art.
15:43Oh, no way.
15:44I mean, the word trench art was derived from World War I, which was a war that was fought
15:49for the most part in trenches.
15:50And these guys used anything that was there, the metals, the munitions, the empty bombshells.
15:55And they made a sophisticated artwork and it became known as trench art.
16:07You know, by just the workmanship here, you could feel that it wasn't smoothed down as much as it should be.
16:11Some of the rivets were not matching and some of the material didn't match.
16:14So it was obvious immediately that it was made by the crew with materials that they had on hand.
16:20Very typical for that type of product.
16:22This looks like it's the cap off of an oil bottle or something.
16:24Exactly.
16:25It could be any number.
16:26They made it with the stuff they had on hand and they do incredible work.
16:29These guys were talented.
16:30Trench art is really any decorative item that was made by a soldier during the time of war.
16:34Can you give us a general idea of what you feel the date of it is?
16:37First off, we're pretty certain that it was an Atlanta-class light cruiser.
16:50We know it's a light cruiser because it has the three turrets with the two cannons on it.
16:56We might even be able to get down a little closer to the date and here's why.
16:58Because when the Atlanta-class cruisers came out, they initially placed these gun turrets on the side.
17:03Okay, they found out that that made the ship out of balance.
17:07Okay.
17:08So they removed these and replaced them with 40-millimeter anti-aircraft guns.
17:12That was in 1943.
17:14I would almost say assuredly when this ship was commissioned in 1942, most likely, that's when it was built.
17:19The appraiser was able to date the model as being an early representation of the ship by the position of the guns.
17:24No way.
17:25So this was actually made during World War II?
17:28I would say most certainly.
17:29What I love about this boat now, it was actually made by American servicemen during World War II.
17:35I mean, how cool is that?
17:36The big question is, how much is it worth?
17:40What'd y'all pay for it?
17:43We get 500 bucks for it.
17:45You know, we've had similar stuff that's in our auctions in the past.
17:48Really?
17:49World War II stuff is absolutely on fire.
17:51I would render an opinion that it's possibly coming to the same value as Civil War items.
17:56Really?
17:57It's all good news so far.
17:59World War II era, naval trend chart, now we just hope it's worth more than I paid.
18:02I'd probably say probably almost assuredly you're looking at probably seven to a thousand on this.
18:06They did.
18:07You're doing right.
18:08That's awesome.
18:09Anytime we're making money, it's good.
18:10You know, on a good day, we get people excited, you know, and we could go maybe even a little higher than that.
18:14What I think is cool is the World War II market is up.
18:17The memorabilia market is up.
18:19He said it's up even as high as Civil War.
18:21So who knows what this boat could actually bring.
18:23All right.
18:24All right.
18:25Thank you so much.
18:26Thanks a lot.
18:31Man, that was killer.
18:32That was awesome.
18:34All right.
18:35We did good.
18:45Hello.
18:46Hey, Danielle.
18:47What's going on, girl?
18:48I have a really awesome lead for you.
18:50What is it?
18:51It's a dude whose name is Sidecar Willie.
18:53Sidecar Willie.
18:54He lives in a geodesic dome.
18:58He invented the human motorcycle and...
19:00He has a hundred sidecars.
19:02Oh, wow.
19:03That's awesome.
19:04He has a hundred sidecars.
19:05One hundred sidecars.
19:06You got my attention.
19:07Okay.
19:08Check it.
19:09I'm sending you off the grid this time.
19:10All right.
19:11We'll send this coordinates and we'll let you know.
19:12I'm looking forward to the house he lives on.
19:14I'm looking forward to a hundred sidecars.
19:16All right.
19:17See ya.
19:18Bye.
19:19Me and Frank love motorcycles.
19:20I will drive across the moon for anybody that's got motorcycle stuff.
19:24Whoa.
19:25Hang on to the steering wheel.
19:26Less talk, more drive.
19:27This thing...
19:28This van's shaking like your prom date, Dolores Spots.
19:31We always say the phrase, this is off the beaten track.
19:34This place is really off the track.
19:36Whoa.
19:37This thing's coming apart at the seams, man.
19:38I wonder how he does with his sidecar in this.
19:40This will be a fun trip.
19:42All right.
19:43This has to be it.
19:44Look.
19:45Geodome.
19:46Old bus.
19:47Yeah.
19:48There you go.
19:49That's us.
19:50This is it.
19:51When we first pull up, I mean, this place is off the grid.
19:54Not only was it hard to find, but I mean, he's got like a geodome.
19:57He's got this pyramid thing.
19:59Sidecar.
20:00Willie.
20:01Yeah, dude.
20:02He's sidecar Willie.
20:03He's got a hundred sidecars in it.
20:04There he is.
20:05How are you doing?
20:06Nice to meet you.
20:07Hi.
20:08How are you doing?
20:09Frank.
20:10Nice to meet Frank.
20:11Nice to meet you.
20:12How long have you been out here?
20:13Oh, 20 years.
20:1420 years.
20:15Now you've got quite the pad.
20:16How would you describe this structure?
20:17What is this called?
20:18It's just a geodesic dome on a space frame.
20:19It's on a space frame?
20:20It's a building system I developed.
20:29When I built this house, I designed my own space framing system.
20:32I call it Omni Hub.
20:33This hub right here.
20:35Same as this hub here.
20:36And a strut.
20:37This whole house is put together with a strut, a bolt, and a hub.
20:41That's the only three parts of this whole place.
20:52Is this your best light right here?
20:53South.
20:54South.
20:55Gotcha.
20:56This house has pretty much zero carbon footprint.
20:58It makes all its own electric.
20:59It makes its hot water.
21:00This is the electric now.
21:01This produces the electric for the building, and this over here produces hot water.
21:06When the sun comes out and heats this panel at the same time, it starts to pump.
21:10People talk about small carbon footprints.
21:12Sidecar Willie was making it happen.
21:14He was living it.
21:15Which way are we going?
21:16We're going upstairs here.
21:17Right here?
21:18All right.
21:22This is awesome.
21:23When I walked into his house, I mean, this is where he's got all the good stuff.
21:28He's got tons of smalls.
21:30He's got this beer cank things he made.
21:32He's got all this NASA stuff.
21:33It's great.
21:34Right then and there, I realized we're on planet Sidecar.
21:39What's up with this?
21:40What's that dude?
21:41Sid the monkey god.
21:42It's kind of cool.
21:43Yeah.
21:44Let's see what else we got.
21:47How much is all this Star Trek stuff here?
21:49I thought, here I am.
21:50I hit a home run.
21:51He's got all this Star Trek stuff.
21:53It's fantastic.
21:54It's got the phasers and the communicators.
21:57Star Trek stuff is very collectible.
21:59They made a lot of it, but the early stuff is very highly sought after.
22:03Because it now has a patina of age.
22:05This is new though.
22:06This stuff's new.
22:08Suddenly I start flipping things over and I start seeing 1993.
22:12So it's not that old.
22:13Stuff that's not that old, it's not going to be worth that much.
22:16That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
22:19How about 50 bucks for the box?
22:20I would have maybe taken a chance on it.
22:22But when he said $50, too big a chance for me.
22:29When Willy broke out the NASA stuff, I was thinking to myself, forget the sci-fi.
22:36Let's go for the real stuff.
22:38You like patches?
22:39Yeah, I do like patches.
22:40What year is that from?
22:41I'm friends over here.
22:42These patches represent historical missions to outer space.
22:45What year do you think that is?
22:46That's Apollo 11.
22:48Apollo 11?
22:49He landed on the moon.
22:50He's got everything from a patch from Mercury 7 in 1959.
22:53All the way to the first moon landing.
22:55This is early stuff.
22:56I like that one.
22:57I like this one.
22:58I like this one.
22:59I like this one.
23:00What do you get for these here?
23:01I'll sell them all for $3 a piece.
23:03I'll count them all.
23:04Take them all.
23:05I'll take them.
23:06That was easy.
23:08Not only are these patches 40 years old, but you know what?
23:11I have the opportunity to sell them as a bulk to a collector.
23:14Or I could sell them individually to a collector trying to complete his set.
23:18Just when I thought we saw everything, I turn around and bam, there it is.
23:22He's got one sidecar after all.
23:24What's the number on the car?
23:251,200.
23:26I'm going to grand.
23:27Uh...
23:34So I'm looking around at Sidecar Willie's stuff and all of a sudden I see Ringo Starr with
23:38a T-bone on his neck.
23:41How much is this Beatles Butcher album?
23:43I'd like $1,000 for that.
23:46Conditions is everything.
23:47Conditions is everything.
23:48In perfect condition, that's $39,000.
23:52So I'm taking $38,000 off.
23:55Isn't that a good deal?
23:57Yes.
23:58When this album came out in 1966, the album was super controversial because of the graphic nature of the photo.
24:04We were offended by dead babies on the cover of the Beatles album.
24:07So they recalled it.
24:08About a hundred of them got out.
24:10The rest of them they took and they glued another cover over it.
24:13It was a picture of the Beatles with a steamer trunk.
24:15My wife gave me that.
24:25I stuck it in that frame and it's been there ever since.
24:28How about 500 bucks?
24:30Wouldn't touch it.
24:31Negative?
24:32That was quick.
24:33Wouldn't touch it.
24:34That was fast.
24:35What's a bottom number on it?
24:37Here, I'll tell you what.
24:38I'll just sweeten the dealer.
24:40I was only two years old when this album came out.
24:42This might be my only chance to grab a really rare piece of iconic rock history.
24:46But at a thousand bucks, I needed a push.
24:49How about a thousand dollars and I throw this in with it?
24:51What is it?
24:52Let's see.
24:56Beatles.
24:57Beatles what? T-shirts?
24:58That White Album, The Revolver.
24:59This is all Beatles stuff.
25:00He's got every Beatles album.
25:01Here is the cake decorations with the Beatles too.
25:04How old are these?
25:06Sixty-six, I believe.
25:08Are all of them there?
25:09Yes.
25:10Alright.
25:11There's only four.
25:12There's only four of them there.
25:13Well, no.
25:14There's the drums in here.
25:15There's a bunch of stuff in here.
25:16Oh, okay.
25:17That was the icing on the cake.
25:18Let's do it.
25:20He spits on me at that one too.
25:22Alright, a thousand bucks.
25:23Alright.
25:24Let me grab this thing.
25:25This is exactly the kind of piece that any savvy music collector would love to have.
25:28Getting my hands on this thing is a big score.
25:30Oh, bye, Beatle album.
25:31My wife will never talk to me again.
25:33On the call from Danielle, she said this guy had over a hundred sidecars.
25:39I mean, me and Mike are freaking.
25:40I mean, a hundred sidecars takes up some area.
25:42I used to have an Indian with a sidecar.
25:44What, your Indian?
25:45A 48.
25:46Did you have an Indian sidecar?
25:47Yeah.
25:48Oh, those are nice, man.
25:49Yeah.
25:50He starts telling us about all these Indian motorcycles and all these sidecars.
25:54And I'm like, where's that stuff at?
25:55And he's like, oh, I sold it.
25:56It's a bit of a letdown, but I figure since we're here, we might as well check this place
26:00out.
26:01We do a, that's an early unimotor cycle.
26:04We do unicycle drag racing.
26:08The idea is to go a hundred foot on one wheel and survive the attempt.
26:12Okay.
26:13We actually have Guinness World Records for it.
26:17Okay.
26:18It's whoever can go the hundred foot the fastest.
26:20Oh, you mean you're the one who started the category in the Guinness Book of World Records?
26:23Yeah.
26:24No way.
26:25No way.
26:26That's pretty wild.
26:28How did you get into that?
26:29Uh, we were drinking one night and it came to me.
26:32It came to me in a fog, you know?
26:34The concept of riding on one wheel spells misfortune to me.
26:42I think this is what happens when you live too far off the grid.
26:46This is a touring one.
26:47A touring?
26:48A touring?
26:49A touring unicycle.
26:50That's a touring unicycle.
26:51All right.
26:52It balances on one wheel.
26:53This here is a gyroscope.
26:55This is a hundred pound flywheel out of a tractor.
26:58When I start the motor up, it spins this flywheel.
27:01This machine will now sit perfectly level, just like that on its wheel.
27:04Okay.
27:05Okay?
27:06So it balances front, back, and sideways.
27:08Where's the brakes?
27:09Uh, we haven't gotten around to that yet.
27:12You know, seeing all Cycar Willy's motorcycle stuff, I mean, it got me.
27:15My juice is just flowing here.
27:17There's got to be something here to buy.
27:19Look at that, Frankie.
27:24How about a Studebaker grill?
27:25You don't see them every day.
27:26How are they at?
27:27Just when I thought we saw everything, I turn around and bam, there it is.
27:30He's got one sidecar after all.
27:32Dang, I love this, man.
27:33Yeah, this is a...
27:34This full Fender.
27:35Look at this Fender, Frankie.
27:36I've never seen one like that.
27:37It's cool.
27:38I like it.
27:39What is it?
27:40It's a 1959 Watsonian.
27:41Watsonian is the oldest sidecar company in the world.
27:43It's still in existence.
27:44This is a 59.
27:53This thing is unique, too, because it has a brake here.
27:55This Fender is metal, Frankie.
27:57It's cool, man.
27:58I like it.
27:59It's got a little luggage rack on the back here.
28:00Oh, yeah.
28:01For a Triumph, it's the perfect sidecar.
28:02This is a sidecar, man, that somebody's looking for.
28:05It's got a British bike.
28:06It's a Watsonian.
28:07It's a great brand.
28:08High-quality piece.
28:09I gotta have it.
28:10All right, sidecar Willie.
28:12What's the number on the car?
28:14Uh, 1,200.
28:16I'm at a grand.
28:17Yeah.
28:18Okay.
28:19Should we go look around some more?
28:20No.
28:21I mean, I'm at a grand.
28:22Tell me what you're thinking.
28:23He knew that was a really nice sidecar.
28:26It's hard to find something that's all there like that.
28:28I'm taking a $200 loss on this booger.
28:31Well, maybe you paid too much.
28:33I'm at a K.
28:341K.
28:35That's all I can do.
28:36That's where I'm at.
28:37You bought yourself a sidecar, sir.
28:39All right.
28:401,000 bucks?
28:41All right.
28:42Shut up your owl.
28:43All right.
28:44Frank!
28:45I'm 67 years old now.
28:46I've enjoyed this stuff my whole life.
28:48The object's not to own all the toys in the world.
28:50The object is to play with all the toys in the world.
28:53And you can't play with them all if you keep them.
28:55You got to keep trading them off.
28:57All right.
28:58Boom.
29:01I'm excited to get this sidecar for a grand.
29:03I can sell it to a collector for at least 1,800 bucks.
29:06The NASA patches that I picked for $90, I can sell them for $300.
29:14Hey, man.
29:15Thank you so much.
29:16I appreciate it.
29:17Do your hospitality.
29:18Thank you very much.
29:19So at the end of the day, we got the Beatles Butcher album.
29:22We got some really cool stuff.
29:23Met a great guy.
29:24Had some awesome stories to tell.
29:26See you, Willie.
29:27Thanks.
29:36I got excited!
29:37How they PRECICInt Embed Zum Introduction
29:41Selling merchandise is a huge part of my job here at Antique Archeology.
29:44I mean, there's a lot to look at.
29:45You like motorcycles?
29:47Yeah?
29:48You know what kind of bike this is?
29:49This is an Indian.
29:50My job on a daily basis requires me
29:52to have a lot of interaction with customers,
29:55try to help them find what they need.
29:57Are you thinking like a trunk?
29:58Is that what you mean?
29:59And educate them about the items we have.
30:02This is a carpenter's chest, 400 on it.
30:05Helping customers find what they need
30:06is one of my favorite parts about my job
30:08because you get to interact with people.
30:10You get to hang out with cool little kids.
30:12Those are early motorcycle gloves.
30:14Those ones are probably from the 20s or 30s.
30:17You get to help people find cool stuff
30:18for their apartment or their home.
30:20It's just fun.
30:22Can I hold it? Can I hold her?
30:23You may touch her.
30:25That is cool.
30:25We get a wide range of people coming through the door
30:27from looky-loos that want to come through
30:29and just take it all in and experience what's happening in here
30:33to hardcore collectors who come in here with a mission
30:38and they know exactly what they want.
30:39So I really dig this one.
30:41I think I'm going to go with this one here.
30:42Awesome.
30:42Um, what's the price?
30:44$2.50.
30:45Uh, how about $2.25?
30:48A pack of gum.
30:49How about $2.50 and I'll smile for you?
30:51Fair enough.
30:52Regardless of which side of the fence you fall on,
30:55I'm going to try to sell you something
30:57because I've got to move this stuff.
31:01The best way to hook up with the locals
31:03is to go where the locals eat.
31:04Right away we see two girls that are easy on the eyes
31:07and they say,
31:08come join us.
31:15Here's the deal.
31:16This place don't look too junky down here, man.
31:17I mean, I don't see anything out in anybody's yard.
31:19It's kind of well kept.
31:20Maybe we need to hook up with some people around here,
31:22like the locals and stuff, you know?
31:24The best way to hook up with the locals
31:26is to go where the locals eat.
31:27You hungry?
31:28No.
31:29God, we just ate like 15 minutes ago.
31:31Are we down here for picking or eating?
31:32I can eat back home.
31:33Frankie and I are both getting a little cranky in the van.
31:35I figured it was time for us to pull over
31:36and just chill out and get some air.
31:38Look at this place.
31:40Look at this place.
31:41How come it looks like we're pulling into this place?
31:43Because it says Fish House.
31:45I'm going to eat something
31:46and when we talk to the locals
31:47then we'll get the vibe.
31:48Then we will have a lead.
31:50You're buying.
31:51In order for us to do that,
31:52I need to eat.
31:53Get a smoothie.
31:54If we're going to stop somewhere to eat,
31:56we're in Florida.
31:57We're going to have some seafood.
31:58Right away I see this sign that says Fish House.
32:00All right.
32:00It's a nice place.
32:01I know, but...
32:02You know, it's not all about the junk.
32:03It's not all about eating.
32:04I got to eat to pick.
32:07Look at, see?
32:08You didn't want to stop.
32:09First thing we see is the water, man.
32:10I mean, this is the perfect place to stop.
32:12This looks good.
32:13Look at, everybody's got the food going.
32:15It's scrubbing it.
32:16Salad looks good.
32:17I know.
32:18When in Florida, do what the locals do.
32:19So we walk down there.
32:20We're checking out the food.
32:21Right away we see two girls that are easy on the eyes.
32:24We start talking to them about what's good to eat there.
32:26This is great.
32:27What is that?
32:28This is Grits Ayaya.
32:29It is absolutely fantastic.
32:30I like the shrub.
32:31It looks good.
32:32All right.
32:33You had me at Grits.
32:34That looks good, man.
32:35That looks kind of good.
32:36It is to die for.
32:37It is really good.
32:38Please, if y'all are, come join us.
32:40Hey, Frank, I like the southern hospitality, man.
32:42So now we're sitting down at the table with these pretty girls, Melissa and Renee.
32:45It's a lot better than riding around with Mike in the van.
32:48We're down here.
32:49We're pickers.
32:50We buy antiques, collectibles, junk, just all kinds of stuff.
32:53So we're kind of cruising around here looking for stuff to buy.
32:55Well, I think, you know, this might be a place to do a couple of those things.
32:58What's the difference is that not only do they have great food here, but I know, you know,
33:02just walking around the place here, they've got some antique motors, fishing lures.
33:06He's a fishing lure guy.
33:07Kinda.
33:08When we sat down with those ladies and they started telling us about all the amazing things
33:11that the restaurant owner has, all of a sudden, I lost my appetite.
33:14I'm ready to pick.
33:15I mean, I'm more than happy to go check and see if the guys are around.
33:18So we go inside to meet the owner.
33:19There's no harm in asking.
33:20Hey, Maria.
33:21Hey, how are you?
33:22What's up?
33:23Well, I've met these guys.
33:24They mentioned that they were interested in picking, looking at some items.
33:27And I said, oh, my goodness.
33:28Picking?
33:29That's what we call it.
33:30This scares me.
33:31Where are you guys from?
33:32Iowa.
33:33We're from Iowa.
33:34Guys, I'm not going to interrupt.
33:35If you don't mind, Mike, Frank, it was really good to see you guys.
33:38Carter, I'll see you later.
33:39See you soon.
33:40Have fun.
33:41Bye now.
33:42He's a businessman.
33:43I can tell right off the bat.
33:44We saw the place and thought we'd stop.
33:45But, you know, we were talking to them outside.
33:47We had mentioned you guys had other businesses.
33:49And I know sometimes you guys have a little bit of a spillover.
33:52We do.
33:53We have a lot of stuff upstairs.
33:54If you want to see it, I'd be glad to show it to you.
33:55We'd be willing to look at anything.
33:56You want to show us around?
33:57Let's go.
33:58So we go upstairs and Collier introduces us to his brothers.
34:01His brothers come out.
34:02These guys are like the good fellas of seafood.
34:04First of all, they're from Ohio.
34:06To Iowa.
34:07Iowa.
34:08Everybody always says that.
34:09They're all the same.
34:10We've been in business together for about 20 years.
34:12We grew up here.
34:13Our dad came down here as a Marine pilot.
34:15Because all the pilots came through Naval Air Station at the time.
34:17Met my mom.
34:18We got married.
34:19That's how we're here.
34:20Which one of you guys is the one who buys all this stuff?
34:21Mostly him.
34:22We change things out in the restaurants over time.
34:27Frankie and I are looking around and we notice there's some really cool stuff.
34:30I can see slot machines.
34:31I can see some taxidermy.
34:32Advertisement pieces.
34:33I mean this is going to be a great pick I'm hoping.
34:40Alright, who do I talk to about this stuff?
34:42That came from a guy here in the local area there who retired.
34:45Vietnam era.
34:46Military police guy.
34:47Did you try it on?
34:48Does it fit?
34:49Alright.
34:50That's a deal.
34:51Military picker.
34:52I found this great military police helmet with matching belt and armband.
34:56I mean it's in great condition.
34:58How much for the helmet, armband and the belt?
35:02Give me a hundred bucks for it.
35:04That's a steal.
35:05I like this set but not at a hundred dollars.
35:08What are you thinking?
35:09I think 75 I could do.
35:1175 bucks?
35:1375.
35:17I'm not using it in the restaurants.
35:19We got a deal.
35:20Put it there.
35:21Alright.
35:22Thanks.
35:2375.
35:24I'm not going to attach this stuff.
35:25So he seemed happy at $75.
35:31Oh yeah.
35:32Oh my god.
35:33That's awesome.
35:35Bernie.
35:36What are you thinking on these brass explosion proof lights?
35:39Those came off of a Swedish ocean liner.
35:42I like these explosion proof lights and I know I can sell them.
35:45How much are you thinking on the lights?
35:47150 apiece.
35:50I couldn't do that.
35:51How about uh...
35:52Make me an offer I can't refuse.
35:53Alright.
35:54How about 150 for the pair?
35:5675 bucks a piece.
36:01Yeah, I would do that.
36:02You want to do that?
36:03Alright.
36:04We got a deal on that.
36:05Thank you so much.
36:06Cool.
36:07I'm really glad I bought these lights.
36:08Again, no emotional attachment.
36:09Bernie took my offer of $150 for the pair.
36:11Who's in charge of the stained glass window here?
36:16This is a great decorator piece.
36:18People put them up in front of the windows and you just get beautiful sunlight through them.
36:22What were you thinking?
36:23I have no idea.
36:24I have no idea.
36:25What would you offer?
36:26Um...
36:27$125.
36:30How about $250?
36:32I don't like it that much.
36:33$250?
36:34That's way out of my price range.
36:35I gotta think this over and come up with a plan to get it for a lower price.
36:38Look at these big pen reels, man.
36:39You're down here in fishing country.
36:40These are...
36:41Oh yeah.
36:42Oh my God, you're in reel heaven.
36:43I find these huge pen fishing reels.
36:44I mean, these are great items.
36:45What's the deal on the reels here?
36:46Those are mine.
36:47Pen 80 wide two-speed.
36:48They're used for free game fishing for marlin fishing.
36:49Sure.
36:50Go ahead and go ahead and go ahead and go ahead and go ahead and go ahead and go ahead and
36:51get it.
36:52I have a big catch fish.
36:53Big catch fish.
36:54Yeah, big catch fish.
36:55Yeah, big catch fish.
36:56So did you have a fishing boat one time?
36:58These are all my boat, yeah.
36:59I had a 54 Bertram.
37:00All the stuff we've been buying, there's no emotional attachment, and then the one thing
37:05that I want, the reels.
37:06They're great items.
37:07What are the deal on the reels here?
37:08Those are mine.
37:09I don't see them on the reels.
37:10What are the deal on the reels here?
37:14Those are mine.
37:15Pin, 80 wide two-speed.
37:16They're used for big game fishing for marlin fishing.
37:17Sure.
37:18Do you all have any marlin up there in the heartland?
37:19thing that I want, the reels, Bernie has an attachment to. He starts thinking about how
37:24he used to have them on his fishing boat. So the boat's gone. The boat's gone. The reels
37:28are sitting in a box. Would it be something you'd be willing to sell? I would be, yeah.
37:33I reminded him, hey, Bernie, you don't have the boat anymore. When's the last time you
37:37used these reels? I'd have to get 300 apiece for him. 300 apiece on those. He's wanting $300
37:43apiece. There's five of them. That's $1,500. There's no way I could pay that. You wouldn't
37:47do $1,000 on all five of them? I couldn't do that. Okay. And that's when it hit me.
37:54You wanted $250 for this, was our starting price. I'll give you $250 for this if you go $1,000 on
37:59the reels. My strategy was to put brother against brother. One brother's going to come out getting
38:04exactly the price he wants, and the other brother's going to take it on the chin. I'll tell you what,
38:08I'm just going to look at it as you're giving me $1,250 for my reels, and he's not getting anything,
38:12so we've got to do that. That's what they call a hero weapon. The one gun that I picked up that
38:17was really cool was used by Vin Diesel. How much is a hero version? Maybe $400. $400?
38:25Do you like bears? We go in this one room, and he's got four bears.
38:33I like bears. Oh man, look at that one. So where'd you get these now? These are at one of your
38:37restaurants? I bought a bunch of them out of Louisiana. This would make a great thing for your
38:41cabin. They're bears. They're big. They're large. I love them. We have no value over these bears.
38:45We sit downstairs. We are trying to get rid of some stuff. Yeah, I can tell right now that there's
38:49absolutely no emotional attachment to these bears. Right. We've had those bears for at least 15
38:54years. The employees used to play with them. Y'all are up near Chicago. Chicago Bears. You can
38:58sell me. Right away when I see these bears, I'm like, I really like these. You know,
39:03they have a little damage to them, but I mean, they're really cool pieces. You just don't see them that much.
39:11What were you thinking for all four of them? I'm hoping with a package deal, I can get these bears
39:20for way lower than $500 a piece. I'll tell you what, you buy three and you get one free. How about
39:25that? You know, I like to buy in bulk. And what I'm thinking, cash and carry, you've reclaimed your room,
39:31$1,000 bucks. $2,000 is too high for you. Take $300 a bear, go to $1,200. Now we're at $300 a bear. I feel
39:42comfortable on that, you know, and I want all four of them. $300 a bear. And Will's carrying.
39:49Will's carrying them? No, I'll carry them. All right. Plus $50 more each bear. Extra $200, I popped.
39:56We'll have a bear room again. That's a good one. Frankie's kicking butt so far. He's made some big
40:04purchases and now I need to step up my game. So I noticed on this one table, there's a lot of sci-fi
40:11stuff. What's the deal with this? What can you guys tell me about it? Those are all movie props that
40:15we probably will put up in a restaurant at some point, but that particular one is off the Vin Diesel
40:19movie, Chronicles of Riddick. Vin Diesel? Yeah. The one gun that I picked up that was really cool,
40:25he said was used by Vin Diesel. That's what they call a hero weapon. That's used for the close-up
40:29shots. It's real heavy. Yeah, it's made out of metal and resin. That's what I'm noticing about it. This is
40:33the one they got in tight on those close-ups with. How much is a hero version? Uh, maybe $400 bucks.
40:40$400 bucks? Even the loser version, not hero. Here's where I'm at. $250. He was at like four
40:49and I kicked him at $250. That didn't really do anything. That didn't get your attention. All right,
40:54well, let me ask you this. So then I look over and I see the slot machine. Okay, I'm gonna go Frankie
40:59on these guys. I'm kind of interested in this slot machine. We could, uh, you know, maybe put the two
41:03together. What are you thinking on this? Mike wants the slot machine. I'm interested in this for around
41:09$800 bucks. Then I had the light bulb moment. I realized that me and Frankie had that USS Atlanta.
41:15And I remembered that Collier mentioned that their father was a marine pilot.
41:19Let me throw something at you. I've got a piece that we picked up recently that I think you might
41:23be interested in. Okay. They didn't do anything with the sci-fi stuff. They're not using the slot
41:27machine anymore, but they're still carrying on with the nautical theme. It's a large ship model,
41:32the USS Atlanta. Oh really? And this is a really cool piece. It's one of a kind. It was made in 1942.
41:37These guys are right near a Navy base. I'm thinking if I could trade for the slot machine and the Vin
41:42Diesel gun, this is going to be a good pick. Let's look at it. You want to take a look at it? Sure. All right, cool.
41:49Guys, that'd be a cool piece for you. We got it in Daytona. The more we described it,
41:54the more we got all three of our interest. Whoa. This ain't light. And that's the Atlanta.
41:59Wow. USS Atlanta. Right here. As soon as we opened up the door, me and Mike took it out. You could
42:05tell they were interested in it. Check out the propellers. Yeah, if you look at the detail on the ship,
42:09I mean, look at these guys even made anchors for it. I mean, this is made well.
42:15You said the gun, the slot. Even up. Even trade. You guys, I'm at 1,050 on that.
42:24I say deal. What do you say? Deal. Deal. Deal. Deal.
42:28This is a great deal for us. I love when a trade works out.
42:32This is a nice piece. It has an homage to the Navy people in this town. It's the 100th anniversary
42:37of Naval Aviation. It was all founded here in Pensacola. The Blue Angels are based out of here.
42:42Yeah. We heard that. We heard that, yeah. So this is perfect for us, and we appreciate it.
42:46Now it's going to rest in a really cool place near the water, where it should be,
42:50near a naval base. I mean, how cool is that?
42:57He's in. Oh, we got another one. I got the stuffed bears for $1,200. I think I can at least get $500
43:04a piece. It's a good deal for us. It's a good deal for them.
43:14All right. Stop taking lunch. Yeah, yeah. End up on a pick. Come back for dinner.
43:17There you go. All right. We got some more stuff.
43:19Lucky to have them stop by the restaurant. That was really cool.
43:21Hey, man. Y'all have a safe trip. All right. Come back and visit. Thanks.
43:26Frank, here's what I'm thinking. Since you own the bears, and they're taking up all the space in
43:37the van, you're going to need to get a hotel room for the bears. They can stay in my room.
43:41Really? You're waking up in the middle of the night just to get a drink of water, and you're like,
43:46flip the light on. Are you and four bears in bed together? Nah. It's going to be like a big old
43:51cuddle puddle. Did you feel some primal connection to them because you had hair in your back, too?
43:56Kind of.
