00:00How you doing, Frank?
00:01Nice, Frank.
00:02What's your name?
00:02Tricky Dick.
00:03Is this a store or what is it?
00:04Nah, this is a personal job.
00:07What do you want for something like that?
00:08That thing's sexy, man.
00:10The thing that makes Tricky Dick tricky
00:11is you never know if he's going to sell anything or not.
00:13Ah, man.
00:16Ugh.
00:16And I have a hard time understanding what he's saying.
00:19Hey, Frank, you check this out.
00:21Wow.
00:21I love that.
00:22It's an Ingo bike.
00:23It's like a big scooter.
00:25See the spring frame?
00:26Yep.
00:27These things are extremely hard to find.
00:28How long have you been putting stuff in here?
00:3030 or 40 years.
00:31Just follow me.
00:32I've got to make some money out of this somehow.
00:35We have a saying, I need some money.
00:37Phil, my last offer is 40 bucks.
00:39Telling you what, you better take it while you've got a hot buyer here.
00:41I don't need no advice from you.
00:43All right.
00:44I'm Mike Wolfe.
00:45And I'm Frank Freck.
00:47And we're Pickers.
00:49We travel the back roads of America looking to buy rusty gold.
00:55We make a living telling the history of America.
00:58One piece at a time.
01:05All right, Mississippi, here we come.
01:07Aren't you glad we got up at 6 a.m., Danny?
01:09No.
01:10There you are.
01:11No.
01:12I knew you were going to say that, Danielle.
01:13I don't like it.
01:14It's okay.
01:16We'll get an early start on the day.
01:17We'll call you when we get there.
01:18I'll bring you back a pull boy.
01:19Oh, no.
01:20It'll be bad by the time you get here.
01:21No, I'll come in, Chris.
01:22Bring me back some good blues CDs.
01:24Keep the leads coming, girl.
01:33We're on our way to Mississippi.
01:35We just crossed the state line into Tennessee.
01:37We're off the superhighways, out of the sprawl, and into our office.
01:40We're freestyle picking.
01:42What about that?
01:42Look at that.
01:43Too new.
01:44Some people gamble on lottery tickets.
01:46Some people gamble on slots.
01:47Freestyling is a gamble for us.
01:49Sometimes we might lose money on gasoline, but we have the chance of hitting the jackpot.
01:53Wait.
01:53What's this stuff right here?
01:54This guy's got cars.
01:55Oh, yeah.
01:55Let's try this place.
01:56Is this a store?
01:57I don't know.
01:57It looks like somebody's, like, pad or something.
02:00Oh, yeah.
02:00He's got some multitudes.
02:01This guy's got the signs.
02:03He's got the gas pumps.
02:04He's got cars laying over.
02:05Looks like the perfect spot.
02:07Let's check it out.
02:10Hello.
02:11This place is cool.
02:12It's got some stuff around here.
02:13Got all these toys.
02:14I walk up to the window, and I'm looking in this place.
02:17I'm thinking it's a store.
02:18I mean, it looks like a junk shop to me.
02:21Hey, how you doing?
02:23Well done, proud.
02:25Hey, my name's Mike.
02:26Yeah.
02:27Saw your gas pumps and your cars.
02:29How you doing, Frank?
02:30Nice to meet you.
02:30What's your name?
02:31Tricky Dick.
02:32A guy with a name like Tricky Dick, he must mean business.
02:35You're related to Nixon?
02:37Nah, but I got a picture right there.
02:39Do you?
02:41Anyway, we were driving by.
02:43We said you got a multitude of stuff.
02:44There's a little list.
02:45There's a list of stuff we buy.
02:46We're pickers.
02:47You know what a picker is?
02:48Yeah.
02:49Right away, I'm getting a good vibe from Tricky Dick.
02:51But the question is, will he let us look around?
02:54You sell stuff or what?
02:55Nah, yeah.
02:56Is this a store?
02:57What is it?
02:57Nah, just my own personal job.
02:59Personal stuff?
03:00Okay.
03:01I have a hard time understanding what he's saying.
03:04I've been gathering stuff up all my life.
03:06Mostly just signs and car parts and junk cars, things I'd pulled in.
03:12Can we look around a little bit?
03:13Yeah, yeah.
03:14All right.
03:14What do you got?
03:15Give us a tour, man.
03:16Whatever you want to show us.
03:16Man, I think you just get attached to things and, you know, don't get rid of them.
03:21Yeah.
03:23Wow.
03:24Uh-oh.
03:25Dang.
03:26Oh, man.
03:26Look at the Vega.
03:27Oh, yeah.
03:29Tricky Dick's shed is packed with stuff.
03:30He's got cars, toys, signs.
03:33That's a lot of stuff.
03:34Frank.
03:35I even spot a coffin.
03:36Oh, look at this, Frank.
03:37Hopefully this thing's empty.
03:39I'm feeling pretty comfortable in here.
03:41Oh, yeah.
03:43Hey.
03:44What do you got on that big Texaco sign?
03:46It's a nice-sized piece, and it's in really good condition.
03:49I've got clients that have really big garage spaces that would absolutely love to have a sign this big to
03:54cover the wall.
03:55What do you got to have for that?
03:57I don't know.
03:58Probably 800.
03:59800?
04:01Woo!
04:02$800 is full-on retail.
04:03I'm not smelling what Tricky Dick is stepping in.
04:07Dang.
04:07Wait, let me hold on here.
04:09I thought it was a heat.
04:11It might have been an $800 price tag.
04:13I'm hoping this isn't going to set the tone for the rest of this pick.
04:16It's nice.
04:17Well, we're just like you, Dick.
04:18Remember, we're pickers, you know?
04:20So if we buy something, we've got to have a little money left on it.
04:23Hey, what's that big grill off of back there?
04:26That's off of Hudson Terraplane.
04:27Oh, that's a Hudson Terraplane grill?
04:29Yeah.
04:29Woo!
04:30The Terraplane was a car that was built by the Hudson Motor Car Company in the 1930s.
04:35These cars were awesome.
04:36They had a lot of power under the hood and a great deco look, and you can tell that by
04:40the design of the grill.
04:49I've been buying these grills and hanging them on the wall because that's the car's signature.
04:53I love this thing.
04:55What do you want for something like that?
04:56That thing's sexy, man.
04:58I better keep it, baby.
04:59Oh, what's that crazy number on it?
05:01I don't want to get rid of that.
05:04You might be crazy.
05:06You might be crazy or not.
05:07200.
05:08Nah, nah, nah.
05:09No, no.
05:09250.
05:10Nah, nah.
05:11Uh-oh.
05:12Well, I'm trying.
05:13Mike and I come across collectors all the time that won't sell stuff.
05:17The key is to find that one item.
05:19So, I mean, a lot of this stuff you get, like, flea markets.
05:21Yeah.
05:21I go on Sundays most of the time.
05:23Why do you go on Sundays?
05:24My way to go to church, so I go to the flea market.
05:28First time I met this guy, I was like, man, I could tell I was going to like him.
05:31Oh, whoa.
05:33Look at that.
05:33What do you got, Frankie?
05:34I got a Rambler servicing here.
05:36Oh, yeah, that's cool.
05:37Would that be something you'd sell?
05:38Nah, not really.
05:40It's sort of hussum, sort of merged with Nash.
05:43Now we're 0 for 3.
05:45All right.
05:45How about 275 on the grill?
05:47Nah, nah, nah.
05:480 for 4.
05:49What's the crazy number on that?
05:51Uh, Tricky Dick may not be selling anything at all.
05:55Ooh, what's this?
05:56Did you find something, Frankie?
05:57I look over, here's his Studebaker jack.
06:00It says Studebaker right on the side.
06:02I mean, advertising stuff is hot.
06:04In Studebaker, they didn't make that much stuff.
06:06I gotta have it.
06:17How about for something like this?
06:18Ah.
06:19This could be sold to an advertising collector and anybody that likes automotive stuff.
06:23I mean, this is a great piece.
06:25What do you get for?
06:28I'd do $20 on it.
06:31There's that look again.
06:33I mean, we've got to get something going here.
06:36About 25.
06:38I'll do 25.
06:41All right.
06:41We broke that.
06:42I can't believe it.
06:43This pick just got a pulse.
06:45Let's see what else he's got.
06:49Look at all this stuff.
06:52Oh, Mike, this is the man cast.
06:57So it looks like you've been hanging and collecting for a long time here.
07:00Yeah.
07:00It's like a group.
07:01I know.
07:02It's like a gambler's hive.
07:03Man.
07:03You can tell this is Tricky Dick's version of heaven.
07:06The velvet painting of Bo Cephas, man.
07:09Got it.
07:09I started Man Cave probably eight or ten years ago.
07:13So when you're in the doghouse, this is where you come, huh?
07:16Yeah.
07:16I've got a bar, a pool table, and signs, deer heads.
07:21I've had some pretty good times.
07:23Y'all want a cold beer?
07:25It's pretty apparent that Tricky Dicky was a beer drinker.
07:28Wow.
07:28I mean, he had over 400 beer signs in there.
07:30So I'm fitting right in here.
07:32This big place we can hang out.
07:33I can see hanging out here.
07:34Oh, that's neat.
07:35All of a sudden, I see this really cool aluminum horse.
07:39I like that.
07:40It's an equestrian piece.
07:42There's a jockey.
07:43The closer I get to it, the more I can see its age.
07:45I love this kind of stuff.
07:47What's this off of, do you know?
07:49I'll offer some kind of old game I had.
07:51This thing must have came off a gambling device, an arcade game.
07:54This would make a great piece for anybody that has anything to do with horses.
07:58How much do you want for this?
08:00What do you get for it?
08:01I'm going to watch it.
08:02The thing that makes Tricky Dick tricky is you never know if he's going to sell anything or not.
08:06What do you get for it?
08:0815 bucks.
08:10I don't get rid of it.
08:12You might get 20.
08:13All right, 20 bucks.
08:1420 bucks.
08:15All right, I like it.
08:16It's cool.
08:16You want to come here and I'm going to show you something?
08:17What do you got?
08:18You never know which way Tricky Dick's going to go.
08:21Got these old rides here.
08:23Ooh, Trangy.
08:24Where'd you pick those up at?
08:26I see these two rides and I'm finally thinking, game on.
08:29I got them several years ago.
08:31I took it on a trade on a 57 Chevrolet.
08:34These coin-op rides can turn this pick around.
08:37Yeah, I probably wouldn't get rid of the horse.
08:38It was sentimental.
08:40The horse is sentimental to Dick, and that's fine.
08:42The piece I'm focused on is the Candy Apple Red Wild Boar.
08:46That's hot.
08:47Ooh, yeah.
08:47As a picker, you're driving around and you're trying to find things that are different, that
08:52spark emotion, things that you've rarely ever seen before.
08:55This is all those things.
09:05How much does the pig ride?
09:10$600.
09:11$600?
09:12Man, the price of pork's up there, huh?
09:14Yeah.
09:15People love coin-operated rides because they can connect to their past.
09:19How about $300?
09:21You see horses and you see little trucks, but when's the last time you saw a Candy Apple
09:27Red Wild Boar?
09:28The coin-op mechanism in here?
09:30No.
09:31Refurbishing the coin-op mechanism is going to cost money.
09:34Also, the bottom of it's roached.
09:35It's like growing out of the ground.
09:37How about three and a quarter?
09:41How about $325 and a case of beer?
09:49You got her bombed.
09:52We got to speak the language, man.
09:55As it turned out, Tricky Dick wasn't so tricky after all.
09:58One, two, three.
10:00All right.
10:01I bought the Wild Boar coin-operated machine for $325 and a case of beer.
10:05I think we should get it appraised.
10:09Don't treat it like a butcher.
10:10I paid $25 for the Studebaker.
10:13Jack, I can at least double my money.
10:17I bought the horse with the jockey on his back for $20.
10:20I'm going to ask $60.
10:25All right.
10:25Tricky Dicky.
10:26All right.
10:27Nice to meet you, buddy.
10:28Nice to meet you.
10:29Overall, this was a great freestyle stop.
10:31We met an awesome guy, and we got a few items.
10:33And the thing is, when you're picking, you got to try to buy something every single day.
10:36Thanks for giving us the tour.
10:38Yeah.
10:38Well, I had a good time with Mike and Frank today, you know.
10:41Haggling around, you know.
10:42Try something a little bit more just for the hell of it, you know.
10:46Hey, thanks, buddy.
10:47Take care.
10:47Wherever in the area again, we'll stop by and say hi.
10:49All right.
10:49Yeah, stop by and have a beer.
10:51Most of the things, I didn't have nothing in, so I definitely made a profit on it.
10:55I think Mike and Frank, they liked it, too.
10:57See it, Tricky Dicky.
10:58See it, buddy.
10:59Keep on picking, buddy.
11:00Come on back when you get a chance.
11:02Come on back.
11:04This is a big boy right here.
11:05The bird cages are great display items.
11:07These are all handmade.
11:09You just do not find these kind of things anymore.
11:11You know, I get to keep it cuffed.
11:13Yeah, you can have the bird chairs on the bottom, too.
11:16You the pig appraiser?
11:17I'm the pig appraiser.
11:18This is metal instead of fiberglass.
11:21Makes it extremely rare.
11:22Finished out, one of these would be worth $2,500, $3,000.
11:26In its current condition, I would guesstimate.
11:32You know what?
11:33Johnny Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters.
11:36These guys all wrote their songs down here.
11:38Me and Frankie are in the heart of the Mississippi Delta.
11:41There's a lot of music history down here.
11:43We should write a Picker's Blues song.
11:45You got a couple lyrics you want to start off with?
11:47How about, like, darkness has fallen on the Picker Man?
11:50What about barbecue sauce?
11:52What's that, Danny?
11:52Hello?
11:53How you doing?
11:54We're just talking about writing some lyrics, making our own Picker song.
11:57Hey, you can't write the blues unless you feel the blues.
12:00Hey, I'm feeling it, man.
12:01I'm down in the Mississippi Delta.
12:02It's a good day.
12:04So what's going on, girl?
12:05Okay, I have a lead for you.
12:06And I want you to remember, it's all in the name.
12:08The name?
12:10Bubba O'Keefe.
12:12So he's an Irish hillbilly?
12:13I was going to say, it sounds weird.
12:14It sounds weird.
12:17What's he got?
12:18He has a 15,000 square foot building, which is pretty rockin'.
12:22This place used to be a bank.
12:23But before it was a bank, it was like a Delta Blues radio station.
12:28Okay, that's cool.
12:28That's cool.
12:29Maybe he's got some memorabilia.
12:30I mean, in my mind, this is the coolest Pick in the world.
12:33Hopefully it translates that way.
12:34You had my attention at 15,000 square feet.
12:37All right, girl.
12:38We'll let you know.
12:39Bye.
12:40Frankie and I are cruising the blues highway.
12:42What more perfect of a pick than to hit an old radio station?
12:45We're in the center of it all, my friend.
12:47This looks good.
12:48Looks good.
12:53You can buy a t-shirt.
12:54All right.
12:56Wow, this place is huge.
12:57Man, look how big it is.
12:59Hello.
12:59Hey, you Bubba?
13:01That's me.
13:02All right, I'm Mike.
13:03How's it going?
13:03Good to see you.
13:03Good to see you, too.
13:04You talked to Danielle on the phone?
13:05How you doing, Frank?
13:06Mike, sure it is.
13:07I saw the sign out front.
13:08This is a museum, huh?
13:09It is.
13:10It's been in the works since 99.
13:12This building was built in 1920, and it is on a historical registry because WROX radio station
13:17was located upstairs from about 1946 to 1955.
13:23Ike Turner started out as a janitor here, and then he became a disc jockey upstairs.
13:26Really?
13:27Right here?
13:28Yeah.
13:28I'll be darned.
13:36Well, here, you talked to Danielle on the phone.
13:38Here's one of our flyers.
13:39This is just kind of a general list of the types of things we buy.
13:42She said that you had, you know, maybe a few items that you might be interested in turning
13:45loose.
13:46This place looks like a small-town museum, but as I'm looking around, I realize this guy's
13:50a picker, too, and I know he's got to have some stuff.
13:53What's the significance of the automobile neon?
13:56I found it in another building.
13:58I buy a building.
13:58All right.
13:59So you were a collector before you even started this place.
14:01Oh, yeah.
14:02Since I was a kid.
14:03I pick for my museum.
14:05And so to see people that really appreciate one's passion of collecting and picking, it
14:10just makes me feel good because not many people understand that.
14:14I didn't tell you that Elvis played upstairs twice.
14:16Really?
14:16Yes.
14:17Yes.
14:17Best I can figure is to promote his concerts here, local concerts at the auditorium.
14:21You know, it was in 1955.
14:23The second floor is where the studios...
14:25So Elvis walked up these steps.
14:27These right here.
14:28It's like me.
14:29This is it.
14:29You just put your hand where he did.
14:31I did.
14:31Don't touch that.
14:32Don't touch that.
14:33So this is laid out the way it was.
14:35Even if you don't like the blues, I mean, just being in one of these rooms, it's remarkable.
14:41That's the broadcast room.
14:42When he told me that Elvis Presley might have been here, when I was standing in that recording
14:45room, I felt like I was the king.
14:48Sit down there, Frankie.
14:49All right.
14:49Ike Turner could have been spinning some stuff here.
14:52This is where it was all recorded.
14:54This is it.
14:55Frankie, imagine they're looking through there and looking at Elvis playing there.
15:01We walk into the sound room and you're thinking to yourself, wow, did Elvis stand here?
15:06Did Johnny Cash stand here?
15:07And I'm trying to take in everything he's telling me, but I'm in awe.
15:11Listen to your voice in here now.
15:13I know.
15:13Soundproof.
15:14This is deadening.
15:14It's a lot more elaborate than I thought it was going to be.
15:17I can't help to think that this place is inspiring my song, Pick a Man.
15:22All right, this is where the 15,000 square feet comes in.
15:25Now we're up to 10,000.
15:27The room of mistakes is a lot of stuff that's broken or maybe it's not good enough to be
15:32on display.
15:32Every museum has one of these rooms.
15:35Oh, those are beautiful.
15:36They came out of the school.
15:38That's the big boy right here.
15:39The bird cages are great display items.
15:41They need a little bit of cleanup, but they're not broke and these things are hard to find.
15:45What do you want for the small one here or the two small ones?
15:49You got to give me a reference.
15:51Tell me.
15:5340 bucks.
15:54A piece?
15:56No, that'd be for both.
15:58I'm thinking 25 and 15.
16:00Does that take, you know, I get to keep a cup?
16:02Yeah, you can have the bird turrets on the bottom too.
16:05How much do you say?
16:0640 bucks for both.
16:09We'll do it.
16:10All right, let's shake on it.
16:12I want to make sure.
16:15I just totally fell in love with these.
16:17These are all handmade.
16:19You just do not find these kind of things anymore.
16:21They're in great shape.
16:22I had to have them.
16:24I like that W-R-O-X.
16:26Someone actually cut this sign out of a piece of canvas.
16:28That's original.
16:29I know.
16:30Where'd you find that?
16:30Well, I mean, that was where it was.
16:32They used to have what they call them.
16:32Oh, that's where it was.
16:33They had a barn dance in this room.
16:35Oh, they did?
16:35Fire marshal made them quit because all the hay bales and people were smoking and said,
16:39you can't do that.
16:41Were these lights in here?
16:42I'm not sure where they came from.
16:44I see these white porcelain service station shade lights.
16:48They're very cool.
16:49They've got an angle to them.
16:50They probably would have came off the front of a building and had the illumination come
16:54down and light a sign.
16:55Would you sell these?
16:56You got two of them.
16:56Two of them?
16:57You got one over there, one here.
16:58Make me a price.
17:01They rotate, so that's just threaded in there, yeah.
17:05The porcelain's nice on them.
17:06They need to be rewired.
17:07But you know what?
17:08They're still awesome.
17:09How about 30 bucks a piece?
17:12Yep.
17:13That was fast.
17:14Oh, a piece?
17:15Yeah.
17:16You said, yep.
17:17What is that?
17:18What do you mean?
17:19Well, I let some things go because they weren't so important for my mission here at the WRX
17:24Museum, going up to the third floor.
17:26Place keeps going on and on.
17:28He finished this off a little bit more up here.
17:30Yeah.
17:31I got a lot of different tastes.
17:32I see that.
17:33The one thing great about this pick was you just didn't know what you were going to find.
17:37All right, Bubba.
17:37Found a sign, man.
17:38What's up?
17:39Yes.
17:40No way on that.
17:42No way.
17:43That's Highway 1.
17:44Is this the Blues Highway?
17:45Well, I mean, 61 is the Blues Highway.
17:48But Highway 1 is the River Road.
17:58You know, you don't see a Highway 1 sign like that anymore.
18:01Won't find them.
18:02All right, I'm going to put it down.
18:04Yeah.
18:04I'm walking away.
18:05It's one of a kind.
18:06And I got it.
18:07It's very cool.
18:10Nice paperweight.
18:11Yeah.
18:12You know, I'm not sure where I picked it.
18:14That's nice, man.
18:16Bubba, what do you get for these shirt displays?
18:18What are you thinking?
18:20This one's kind of a simple one, you know?
18:22Yeah.
18:22It adjusts up.
18:23These old-time shirt displays.
18:25I mean, these probably came out of a men's fashion store or something.
18:27And they're really cool.
18:29You just don't see stuff like this anymore.
18:30How about $20 a piece?
18:32All right.
18:33All right.
18:33I'll take these two then.
18:34I bought two of them for $20.
18:36Great buy.
18:37So this is just kind of like the Bubba Man room.
18:40Hang out, chill out.
18:41Ooh, nice subject.
18:42That's cool.
18:45Oh, yeah, New York.
18:47He's got a really cool wooden rail, wooden leg.
18:50He's got a pinball machine from the 50s.
18:52And with pinball, it's all about the subject matter.
18:54And this one is New York.
18:56Not just New York, Times Square.
18:58Lots of color.
18:59The playing field is nice.
19:01It's missing the coin mechanism.
19:02It's missing the glass.
19:03But you know what?
19:04It's great subject matter.
19:06You don't have this piece, do you?
19:07No.
19:07Where'd this thing come out of?
19:10Found it in an old place and just...
19:12Here locally?
19:13Yeah.
19:13Local?
19:14Yeah.
19:14It's a good piece of safe.
19:15This thing's rough, but the only thing I'd be interested in it for is subject matter.
19:19Right.
19:19And that's the whole point.
19:20That's what it's all about.
19:21What are you thinking on this?
19:23I mean, the thing needs to be completely restored, but I like stuff that's rusty, dirty, and
19:27has a life before us.
19:28I'll lay an offer on you.
19:30Yeah.
19:3075 bucks.
19:3175 bucks?
19:33Yeah.
19:34I mean, if this thing was up and rocking and rolling, what would it be, Frankie?
19:37Six or 700.
19:39I was going to say, that's the highest.
19:41Anybody that lives in New York or somebody that just has a connection to New York City,
19:46this is the perfect piece.
19:47I made an offer.
19:48Tell me where you're at.
19:50Well, I was up in the stratosphere.
19:53I was up at 200.
19:54200?
19:55Yeah.
19:56Would that be delivered to Iowa?
19:58You know what?
19:59That might work out.
20:01Delivered to not me, man.
20:04I'll tell you what.
20:04This is a beautiful machine.
20:06It's got wood legs.
20:07I'll come up a little bit.
20:08I'd do 100 bucks.
20:09That's not too far apart.
20:11I mean, we've got some cash flowing here, you know.
20:14And you know what?
20:15Let me rephrase.
20:16Where's your cash flow?
20:17I'll do this.
20:18How about 135?
20:23How about 135?
20:26Mike and Frankie, they were pushing me a couple of times, but it's picking, you know?
20:32What was it?
20:33What was it?
20:33135, out the door, cash and carry, like they do with roses.
20:37Cash and Frank will carry.
20:39All right, 135.
20:41It was very hard to let go of the pinball machine, but I'm glad to see it going to people
20:45that, you know, we're going to make sure that somebody that really likes that will get
20:48it.
20:51Got all the records, all the little records you see.
20:53A lot of those came from WROX.
20:55Hey, Frankie, check this out.
20:56It's an Ingo bike.
20:58Oh, it's one of those kind of go, yeah, you jump up and down on it.
21:02It's got some great stuff on it.
21:03It's got the original front wheel.
21:05The frame's nice.
21:06These things are extremely hard to find.
21:07They were made by a company called Rand Ingersoll from like 34 to 37.
21:12And you actually jumped up and down on this bicycle to propel yourself.
21:17The offset rear wheel would throw you forward.
21:20See how that's laced in there?
21:22Mm-hmm.
21:22One side of the wheel, one side of the spokes are shorter.
21:25Gotcha.
21:25And the hub is offset.
21:26So when you jumped up and down on it, like this.
21:29That's what kept you going.
21:29See the spring frame?
21:31Yep.
21:41It's like a big scooter, you know, a big kid's scooter.
21:44Big time.
21:45It's funny how it really attracts people's attention.
21:48Oh, I know.
21:48Well, it's just so massive.
21:50Yeah.
21:51Bubba, would you sell this bike?
21:53You know, I don't know.
21:54We're going to have to soul search on this.
21:56You're going to have to, we're going to have to figure it out.
21:57Making an offer on it?
21:57Well, with anything, it's all about condition.
22:01You know, the bike is solid.
22:03The frame is solid.
22:04It's got the wrong rear rim.
22:05It's missing the tread here.
22:08These are the wrong grips.
22:10You know, I mean, it's got some issues on it.
22:11But overall, I mean, the hardest thing to find is this head badge where it says Ingo bike.
22:16Those are really hard to find.
22:18You know, so those are always gone.
22:19I'd be into it for like, for like 300 bucks.
22:26It hurts that it's got the wrong rim on it.
22:29Actually, it's a Schwinn rim.
22:31That's why it's got this neural on the side.
22:32So you're saying this is the...
22:34The rim itself.
22:35Someone relaced this wheel with this rim.
22:37It's got the hub.
22:38I got you.
22:38This hub is original to the bike.
22:40What about 375?
22:41I mean...
22:42Yeah, I couldn't do 375 on it.
22:44I'd come up to 3 1⁄4 on it.
22:48And then that'd be maxed out on it.
22:49What if I have a picture of Tessie Williams on the spot?
22:52I'd probably give you a couple hundred more.
22:57325.
22:58325?
22:58All right.
22:59Yep.
22:59All right.
23:00All right, thanks.
23:00I'm a bicycle guy.
23:01I love bicycles.
23:02This is going to be something easy for me to sell because I'm plugged into the antique bicycle community.
23:07That's cool, dude.
23:08See the back wheel?
23:09I know.
23:09I love it.
23:09It's not broken.
23:10It's supposed to be that way.
23:12For a day of picking down here in the Delta, I think we had a great day.
23:15I bought some awesome stuff today that I feel confident that we can make some cash on.
23:19I bought the Ingo bike for 325.
23:22I'm going to ask $600.
23:24I bought two antique bird cages for $40.
23:27I think I can at least get $200 for both.
23:31There it is.
23:32That baby's heavy.
23:33I got the Times Square pinball machine for $135.
23:36I'm going to ask $400.
23:38Good luck with everything.
23:40Thank you for coming to the museum.
23:41It's a great project.
23:42I feel like having Mike and Frank at our WRX museum was a great blessing.
23:47It was just a great experience to walk through the building and look through things, pick through things, and hear
23:52their take on it.
23:53And I'd love for them to come back.
23:56See you, buddy.
23:56See you, man.
23:57Take care.
23:57Bye.
23:59All right.
24:06You're supposed to be writing a blues song.
24:08What do you got?
24:09I got barbecue on my shirt.
24:12I got the barbecue on my shirt.
24:14That's what writing blues is all about.
24:15I mean, it's life experiences.
24:17That's my experience.
24:18I've got a working title.
24:19I've got Picker Man.
24:20You want to hear this?
24:20Yeah.
24:21Give me some beat.
24:22I need a beat.
24:23One, two, three.
24:26What's down the alley?
24:28In the garbage can.
24:31It looks like a honey badger.
24:34No, it's a Picker Man.
24:36That's all I got so far.
24:38I didn't sound too bad.
24:38I like the part about the honey badger.
24:40You like the honey badger?
24:41Because he don't care.
24:52Hello?
24:52Hey.
24:53I have some information for you in regards to the appraisal.
24:57Danny found us an appraiser for the metal pig.
24:59We're going to head over there and see how we did.
25:01All right.
25:01Thanks, boys.
25:02Have a great day.
25:03Take care.
25:07Flag says this is it.
25:09This looks like it is because it's an auction place.
25:12What's this say?
25:13Please use wood beside door to knock.
25:19It's all right, man.
25:19Hey, you Chuck?
25:20I'm Chuck.
25:21I'm Mike.
25:22How are you doing?
25:22I'm Frank.
25:23Glad to know you, Frank.
25:24Are you the pig appraiser?
25:25I'm the pig appraiser.
25:26All right.
25:26We'll grab it?
25:27Bring her on in.
25:28All right.
25:28We'll get it.
25:29My name is Chuck Ryan.
25:30I'm a real estate broker and auctioneer, and I've been in the arcade game business since
25:341967.
25:35All right, Chuck.
25:36We're going to blow your mind.
25:37All right.
25:38We buy, sell, trade, and restore all types of arcade games.
25:42Right there.
25:43Look at that.
25:45Well, guys, let's see what you've got here.
25:47It's a sandy pig made by the Sandy Company from 1951 to 1954.
25:53They also produced a riding horse.
25:55The sandy horses were much more popular.
25:58The pig just didn't go over as well as the horse did, and so they ultimately quit making
26:04them.
26:12They made some out of fiberglass, some out of metal.
26:15This is metal instead of fiberglass.
26:18It makes it extremely rare.
26:19When he said it was super rare because it was the metal one, you know, a lot like the fiberglass
26:23one, I was thinking the number, who knows, could be up to $1,000.
26:26Of course, you're missing the range.
26:28Saddle's in rough condition.
26:30You're missing your coin mech.
26:32The bottom box will have to be rebuilt as well.
26:34The condition of this one is pretty rough, but it can easily be restored.
26:39He's had a hard life here.
26:40He's been sitting outside for 15 years in the cold and the wind and the rain.
26:43I think it's in great condition considering the age and from it being outside, obviously.
26:49You guys have done really well.
26:51I don't think I've seen another one at auction.
26:54This guy's been around the block.
26:55He does coin-operated stuff.
26:56He does appraisals.
26:58He does auctions.
26:59When he says he hasn't seen the pig very much, then we know we got a rare item.
27:02Well, you've seen it.
27:03What do you think it's worth?
27:06Well, if you restore it, finished out, one of these would be worth $2,500, $3,000.
27:12In his current condition, I would guesstimate maybe $600 to $800.
27:18Really?
27:19Yes.
27:19That's good.
27:20I'm going to do it for three and a quarter.
27:21Right.
27:22I think you've done extremely well.
27:23In fact, I may know someone who might have interest in it.
27:26Really?
27:27Yep.
27:27He does restorations, and we use him all the time.
27:30And just about a week or so ago, he had said that he was looking for a metal pig.
27:35He's a very good friend of mine.
27:37If you want me to give him a call.
27:38That's the guy we need.
27:39Right.
27:40Somebody that's going to bring it back to life.
27:42So, I mean, you know, be in its full glory like it was when it was outside the 5 and
27:4510.
27:45Give the guy a call.
27:47Hey, that'd be great if we could get it out of the back of the van.
27:49$600 to $800.
27:50I mean, hey, $700.
27:51Money's money.
27:51This is the perfect scenario for us.
27:53We roll up, we get the appraisal, and the appraiser knows the guy that might buy the item.
27:57Hey, Mark.
27:58Remember you told me you wanted a red metal pig?
28:29I happen to have one in our place right now.
28:31The general idea of what the shape the pig's in.
28:33I'd take $600 for it, and that's where I'd have to be on it.
28:37I'm from Iowa.
28:38We're just driving through here.
28:39So, if I can get $600, I'll leave it here.
28:42And if he can pay us, that'd be great, and it's yours.
28:45If not, we're going to toss it back in the van.
28:49Chuck, he said if you think it's worth $600, he'll take your word for it.
28:52Even I heard that.
28:53Tell him I think it's worth every bit of $600.
28:55He says it's worth every bit of it.
28:57All right, my friend.
28:58We're going to leave it here.
28:59It's not like we've got a deal.
29:00All right.
29:00Hey, thanks.
29:00Thanks.
29:01It's good doing business with you.
29:02All right.
29:03Bye-bye.
29:04We've got a deal, huh?
29:05At $600, I don't have to restore this.
29:07It's not taking up any space in the van.
29:09I don't have to haul it all the way back to Iowa, and I'm making a little bit of money
29:12on it.
29:12Thanks, buddy.
29:13Who said pigs don't fly?
29:15That's right, my friend.
29:16Great doing business with you guys.
29:18All right.
29:18This is just one more instance that Danielle did a great job.
29:26We've got some more room in the van and more cash to spend.
29:28Yeah.
29:29Sweet picking.
29:34Walking in that front door was incredible.
29:36No way.
29:37This is the kind of places we love.
29:39It's big.
29:40Wow.
29:40Phil's a really eclectic collector.
29:42There's so much stuff in here, I really lost track of it.
29:49Hey, I've already wrote two verses.
29:51What have you done?
29:52I got my one verse.
29:54Barbecue on my shirt.
29:55Let's hear it.
29:56Wrote a song about it.
29:57Like to hear it go.
29:58You got gates, cookies, Frank's special sauce.
30:02I'm going down the road, going to use my sauce.
30:05Come on, people.
30:06Try my sauce.
30:07I'm doing it now.
30:08Oh, no.
30:09I'm in the bathroom, how?
30:11I think you should lose Frank's special sauce.
30:13The special sauce works out in the bathroom.
30:15That's a little bit edgy.
30:17And two, that's rap, not blues.
30:19Oh, that was rap.
30:27If we can get into Phil's place, this is going to be amazing.
30:31We're in Mississippi here today, and we're going to go see an old friend of ours.
30:34Hey, Phil.
30:35We saw those.
30:36The gas pumps.
30:37Yeah, yeah.
30:37What are you thinking on these?
30:38A couple of thousand for both of them.
30:40Woo.
30:41I'm glad I was hanging on here.
30:43Phil was kind of like the local historian, man.
30:46He was buying architectural stuff.
30:48He was keeping the stuff here.
30:50Advertising stuff.
30:51There's his car.
30:52Where?
30:53The white car, remember it?
30:54That's his car, yeah.
30:55You know what that means?
30:56What?
30:56He's home.
30:57All right.
30:58This is it.
30:59You think he's going to remember us?
31:00He'll remember us.
31:01This place looks the same.
31:06Hello!
31:08Yes!
31:09How can I forget these faces?
31:12We're pretty unforgettable.
31:14I was just glad to see that Phil was in a good mood.
31:16Last time we were here, his house burned down.
31:19The reason we stopped back is because last time, you said you had a building down in there,
31:24and we didn't get a chance to get inside there.
31:26I thought you went in the building.
31:27No.
31:27We went in the building next door, but we never got into that one.
31:30It's kind of rough.
31:31It's rough in there?
31:32Well, the ceiling is.
31:32All right, we're used to that.
31:33We're like honey badgers.
31:34We'll dig forever.
31:35All right, let's go down to the big building and then work our way back down.
31:38Okay.
31:38Phil owns a building that's just down the street.
31:40He's been storing stuff there for years.
31:42You're going to see a lot of stuff in there.
31:44All right.
31:44We're looking forward to it.
31:45All right.
31:45Phil's a really eclectic collector, so it's driving me crazy to actually see what he has inside
31:50this building.
31:51Look at this place, Frank.
31:55It's old, and it's falling apart, but I mean, it's big, and we can't wait to see what's
31:59inside.
32:00It's cast stone.
32:01Oh, yeah.
32:02It looks heavy duty.
32:03It was built from salvage material from the old King's Daughter's Hospital, which is
32:07like 1923.
32:09And how long have you been putting stuff in here?
32:1030 or 40 years.
32:12All right, Frankie.
32:12Just follow me.
32:14Oh, wow.
32:14You're going to need your flashlight, Frankie.
32:16I got mine.
32:17No way.
32:19Walking in that front door was incredible.
32:22This is the kind of places we love.
32:24Turn right.
32:24I love architectural stuff, and Phil is an architect.
32:27He's been collecting architectural items out of this town and the South for many years.
32:32When you walk into this place, you can see old doors, old windows, old stained glass.
32:35This is exactly why we came back to Phil's.
32:39Wow.
32:40There's so much stuff in here, I really lost track of it.
32:43So you're still buying stuff?
32:44I'm still collecting stuff.
32:46How are you?
32:46It never leaves you.
32:48You can't get it out of your system.
32:49When I see something that's interesting to me, and I can afford it, I'll buy it.
32:53From yard sales to estate sales.
32:55But I never sold anything, and that was my problem.
32:58See, that's why this building is so full of stuff.
33:01Looks like you had a leaky roof.
33:03Yeah.
33:03When's the last time you were in here, Phil?
33:05I haven't been in here in a couple of months.
33:07Phil is one of those guys that we call loving it to death.
33:10The conditions of the building are so bad, the roof is caved in.
33:13There's tons of water coming in on it.
33:15I mean, he sees the condition of a lot of this stuff, and he knows that he's got to start
33:18tearing loose of it.
33:21What's that?
33:22Recruiting service stuff.
33:23Yeah, that's cool, man.
33:24Hey, Phil, what about these cards here?
33:26You got little cards of Uncle Sam.
33:28Oh, my God.
33:30They're like in mint condition.
33:31You know, there's a lot of roof damage in this place, and there's a lot of things getting
33:34wet, but these are one things that survived.
33:45They got great graphics, and I'm sure somebody that collects military stuff or any kind of
33:50Americana would love these.
33:51How much do you have to have for these?
33:53About $5.
33:54Five bucks.
33:57I broke the ice.
33:59All right.
34:00Phil brought all this stuff into one area and preserved it because he saw the history of
34:04it, but now he's really got to start selling some of this stuff, and I think he sees that
34:08me and Frankie are red hot, and we got cash.
34:11Man, this place is a killer.
34:13How about some of these signs over here?
34:15Any of those for sale?
34:16Oh, yeah, I like that.
34:17Yeah, it's cool.
34:18It was a 12-foot hot woman painted on galvanized metal with a wood frame.
34:23What about this woman?
34:24Looks like she's water skiing.
34:25Oh, God.
34:26It came off of a motel.
34:28That was a feature.
34:29They had that out front.
34:30She's in a bathing suit, and at that time, it was kind of risque.
34:34I could see I'd pull in.
34:36They'd make me want to stay there.
34:37It was a piece of advertising.
34:39Someone hand-painted this piece.
34:40Now, it's a piece of art.
34:42How much is that?
34:44You ain't gonna like this.
34:45All right, hit me hard.
34:46$200, you can have it.
34:48$200?
34:48It's a beauty.
34:49Yeah, it's pretty faded out, though, you know.
34:51How about $125?
34:53$150, you got it.
34:54How about $130?
34:55No!
34:57I've got to make some money out of this somehow.
34:59We have a saying, I need the money.
35:02Work with me here.
35:03I'm trying to get some money.
35:04Hey, I'm trying to give you some money.
35:06Phil hasn't changed one bit.
35:07He's still tough as ever.
35:09But I really want this sign.
35:11I said $150, and that was the bottom line.
35:14$150.
35:15That's the bottom line.
35:16All right, I got it.
35:17I think my eye is very close to the Pickles' eyes, because they like my stuff.
35:23It's amazing box.
35:24There's Pontiac.
35:25Distance.
35:26The pack of hubcaps over there.
35:28I see those, yep.
35:29Let me see that one right there with the Indian face on it.
35:31It's broached.
35:32Oh, yeah.
35:33When me and Frankie are digging around this room, I find a really cool Pontiac hood ornament.
35:37It's still got the plastic face of the Indian.
35:39How much is that?
35:40It's a Pontiac.
35:41Let me see it.
35:42Yeah, how much?
35:43That's $100.
35:44That's $100?
35:45It's just too pitted for me, because the guy's going to put this on a car.
35:47He's going to have to re-plate it.
35:48I'll let you have it for $50.
35:49How about that?
35:50$40.
35:51It's been oxidized, but it's still got the look.
35:53Phil, my last offer is $40.
35:55I'm like, $40, going, going, going.
35:58Telling you what, you better take it while you've got a hot buyer here.
36:00I don't need no advice from you.
36:02All right.
36:03You're prejudiced.
36:04I'll let you have it.
36:05You want me to do the $40?
36:06For the Indian.
36:06All right, I'd do the $40.
36:08Let me grab it.
36:09I think Phil thought in the back of his mind, I'm never going to get $40 for this.
36:12It's going to sit here and rust away.
36:14I better take his money while I've got a chance.
36:16It was broken a little bit.
36:18It was off-centered.
36:19Don't poo-poo my stuff.
36:20I'm not poo-pooing it.
36:21How about $35?
36:22Oh, hell no.
36:23That's a gorgeous thing there.
36:25Got a little bit of damage around this side.
36:27You tell me.
36:28We're not even close.
36:36Hey, Phil, what about this sign?
36:38It's a laxative sign.
36:40Nature's remedy.
36:41Right.
36:42It's porcelain.
36:42The subject matter, laxative, it's going to go to like a pharmacist guy, somebody that runs a poppy carry shop.
36:47How much?
36:49$35.
36:50$50.
36:51$40.
36:52$50.
36:52All right, I'll tell you what.
36:53Good deal.
36:54Now we're talking.
36:55Once it's cleaned up on the market, it's gone.
37:00Come on up.
37:01Let's see what we got here.
37:01What's this?
37:02What is it?
37:03Got a big hole in it.
37:04This big wheel's cool.
37:05That's a gorgeous thing there.
37:07It is gorgeous.
37:08This is something that's early.
37:09Probably had a strap that went to it.
37:11It had a belt, and it probably drove some piece of farm equipment or a drill press or something.
37:15That thing would be an eye-catcher.
37:17Like in a restaurant?
37:18In a restaurant, anything like that.
37:20Put a clock in it and put some numbers on it.
37:22Hell, it's cool.
37:23It was broken a little bit.
37:25It was off-centered.
37:26It's got a little bit of damage around this side here.
37:30Well, don't poo-poo my stuff.
37:30I'm not poo-pooing it.
37:31How about $35?
37:33Oh, hell no.
37:34You tell me.
37:34I got to start somewhere.
37:35We're not even close.
37:37$100 for that.
37:38That's a beauty there.
37:39I think I'm going to pass at $100.
37:41All right, $80.
37:42How about $60?
37:45$80 is my bottom figure on that.
37:48All right, well, I'll tell you what.
37:49Let me look around or something, and maybe I can put something with it.
37:51I like the bundle.
37:53I don't like to do that with you.
37:55When we're walking around and we're negotiating with Phil,
37:58one of the things that I'm going to stop doing is mentioning the condition of things.
38:02I mean, he had his house burned down, the building that we're digging in,
38:05the roof is caved in on it.
38:06I mean, this guy's been through a lot, and I forgot about that.
38:08So, Phil, how do you get upstairs?
38:10I don't want to go in those stairs.
38:12I don't want to go in those stairs.
38:12Hey, neither do I.
38:13We can go up to Fire State.
38:15Fire State?
38:15We came all the way to Mississippi to check out this building.
38:18There's no way we're leaving without seeing the whole thing.
38:21This looks easier than the other steps, I'll feel.
38:24Whoa, there's all kinds of stuff up there.
38:29Whoa!
38:30Be careful.
38:31This place is full-on backwoods gorilla picking.
38:33The roof is caved in.
38:34The floor is falling in.
38:36It's like 100 degrees in here.
38:37That's how we roll.
38:38When you moved in up here and had this stuff up here, was there one day when the roof was
38:41still good?
38:42Yeah.
38:42It was a wonderful place at one time.
38:45The first thing that happened is that truss broke.
38:47Oh, yeah.
38:48They framed it the wrong way.
38:49They should have framed it to the center line.
38:51It looks like the roof's been down for quite a while.
38:53It has been.
38:55Whew.
38:56I got hot up there.
38:57If I knew when I was going to be doing this today, I got my thing to do.
39:01You know, Phil gets around pretty good for an older gentleman, but he's starting to run out of steam.
39:05We need to get as much picking in as we can get before he throws in the towel.
39:09How much for the fire buckets?
39:12$10 a piece.
39:13$10 a piece.
39:14I'm your guy.
39:25The further I dig into this place, the more cool stuff I find.
39:28Look at this.
39:29Oh, my God.
39:31My monkeys.
39:32$10 for both of them.
39:34All right.
39:34I like them because they're all rusty.
39:36This building is trashed beyond repair.
39:38I'm glad we can buy some of this stuff and get it off Phil's hands before it's totally toast.
39:45That's good.
39:46Those are nice.
39:46They're like little things you put on the cigar box.
39:49That way you can have the back of it open.
39:51There are glass tops.
39:52What you did is you opened up the cigar box and you put them down.
39:54It was to keep them fresh.
39:55It was also so you could be able to see the cigars.
39:57These are really cool items, but they just weren't in the best shape.
40:00How about, so I have an extra piece of glass, how about these five here?
40:05And the box.
40:06I don't care about the box.
40:07You can have a box if you want.
40:08There's like five of them.
40:09I like $10 a piece.
40:11I'm going to do you a favor.
40:13Okay.
40:13$60 from all of them.
40:15Okay, so the whole lot, $60.
40:17$60.
40:18Okay, you got it.
40:19These are classic, great things.
40:21Anybody that collects cigar stuff, humidors, anything to do with that, they're going to love this.
40:28These are shelf brackets here.
40:31What do they say on that?
40:32Peoria, Illinois, right by where I live.
40:36Whoa.
40:37Fell through the floor right here, dude.
40:39It's rough being a picker.
40:40All right, let's get this hay carrier.
40:43I'm about ready to fall through here.
40:47Look at this.
40:49Found this hay carrier.
40:51These hay carriers are really cool.
40:53They're cast iron.
40:54They're ornate.
40:55They've got wheels on them.
40:56And a lot of people are starting to repurpose them as light fixtures.
41:09How much for this hay carrier?
41:11God, I haven't seen that thing in a while.
41:12Remember, I had to risk life and limb for this piece.
41:15I know you did, because I'm going to give you a good price on $100.
41:20$100?
41:22Man.
41:23You make your own price.
41:25$50.
41:27Uh-oh.
41:28I've been, I've been, I've been.
41:29That thing is really valuable.
41:30Phil says he doesn't like to negotiate, but you know what?
41:33I think he loves it just as much as we do.
41:35I should be getting first cousin price now.
41:37I've been stepping up.
41:38$60.
41:40Work with me.
41:44$60, and let's get out of here.
41:46Okay.
41:46I can stay here and pick all night.
41:48I'm talking full-on sleep here.
41:50But I can tell Phil's getting a little bit tired, so I'm backing off.
41:53I don't want to overstay our welcome.
41:54Get that stuff loaded up.
41:56You bet.
41:56They enjoyed being with me, and I enjoyed being with them.
41:59Well, we got through this place without him caving in.
42:03Come on, you're pouring it on me, dude.
42:04You're pouring it on me for.
42:05I bought 15 fire buckets for $150.
42:08I'm going to double down and double my money.
42:13I bought the recruiting cards for $5.
42:15I couldn't see why I couldn't get at least $35 to $50 for them.
42:21The cigar tops, I got 10 of them for $60.
42:24That's like $6 a piece.
42:25I know I can get at least $15 or $20 for the good ones.
42:29All right, Phil.
42:30Breaking my heart.
42:31Several of the things that I've let go are hard to get rid of, but I just decided that it's
42:36time to do it.
42:37You're always rough on us, but we always enjoy doing business with you.
42:42That's why you keep coming back.
42:42Come back anytime.
42:43Coming back to see Phil was totally worth the trip.
42:46We walked away with some great little items, and you know what?
42:49I think Phil had a good time, too.
42:50You know it's a good pick when you're this dirty.
42:52Boy, you are filthy.
42:54I just wish I could go in that truck with him and help him.
42:57All right, Phil.
42:58Nice footy.
42:59Come back.
42:59Come back anytime.
43:12What are you doing, man?
43:14Writing a blues song.
43:15This is going to be a good one, dude.
43:16I'm telling you.
43:17This is like Albert Collins is going to come back from his grave playing this thing.
43:21You know what?
43:22He's too mainstream for me.
43:23I'm more Howlin' Wolf.
43:24I'm more Howlin' Wolf.
43:25I am the Howlin' Wolf.
43:26I want to hear it, man.
43:28Yeah, give me a couple minutes.
43:29All right, you give me a beat.
43:30All right.
43:31Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
43:33Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
43:35What's that down the alley?
43:36Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
43:38In the garbage can.
43:39Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
43:40Looks like a honey badger.
43:42Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
43:43No, it's the pick-a-man.
43:45Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
43:46He's coming at you looking long and lean.
43:48Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
43:49You got something to sell.
43:51Ba-ba-ba-ba.
43:52It don't have to be clean.
43:53Ba-ba-ba-ba.
43:55That's all I got.
43:56That was pretty good.
43:57Ha-ha-ha-ha.
