00:00Come in boys.
00:01Oh, man.
00:04I mean, this guy's got it going on.
00:06Is any of this stuff for sale?
00:08Absolutely.
00:09It's not every day you find a World War II-era Harley in this shape.
00:13I've got to get this bike.
00:14You know, our class reunion's getting ready to come up, and I was kind of wanting to go.
00:18Are you serious?
00:19Yeah, dude.
00:20I'm going to drive the Plymouth right up front.
00:23Woo!
00:24The Plymouth runs.
00:25Dude, I've been working on it and working on it and working on it.
00:27Danielle said she'd come on the road with you, fill in for a few days for me.
00:32My mother never would let me drink, cuss, smoke, chew, gamble, lie, fool with fast women or slow horses.
00:38Uh-oh.
00:39That's terrible.
00:39Yeah.
00:40Found this old projector with wooden slides.
00:43How about 350?
00:45350?
00:46Look at the slides.
00:48I'm Mike Wolf.
00:49And I'm Frank Fred.
00:51And we're Pickers.
00:53We travel the back roads of America looking to buy rusty gold.
00:59We make a living telling the history of America one piece at a time.
01:10So, Mike, you know that our class reunion's getting ready to come up?
01:13I just kind of wanted to go.
01:14Reunion for what?
01:16For high school.
01:17Are you serious?
01:18Yeah, dude.
01:19I mean, are you serious?
01:20You want to go?
01:21I'm serious.
01:22I want to go.
01:23Do you want to go?
01:23I don't want to go.
01:25We have no business to run.
01:26I got the brand new shirt.
01:28I'm going to drive the Plymouth.
01:29You're going to drive the Plymouth.
01:30I'm driving the Plymouth right up front.
01:32The Plymouth is my baby.
01:33I'll take it for $5,500.
01:36What do you think it's worth?
01:38$3,000 to $5,000 in there.
01:41I took a little hit on it, and I haven't been able to sell it.
01:44So, for now, I'm going to enjoy it myself.
01:46Plymouth runs.
01:48Runs turnkey.
01:49Get out of here.
01:50Dude, I've been working on it and working on it and working on it.
01:52The motor.
01:53The transmission.
01:54The brakes.
01:55The radiator.
01:56The alternator.
01:56The pumps.
01:57The fuel pumps.
01:58I mean, this thing has been top to bottom.
02:00There's a woman involved here.
02:03Nope.
02:03You want to go see Jody Butkovich, don't you?
02:06No.
02:07There's only two words that can bring Frank to the reunion, and that's Jody Butkovich.
02:11She's always been Frank's kryptonite.
02:13I need to get that out of your mind, dude.
02:16The reunion's not until this weekend, so after I get some picking in.
02:19Danielle said she'd come on the road with me and fill in for a few days for me.
02:23Alright, fine.
02:24Whatever.
02:29We've been driving around Virginia, and finally Danielle has called with a lead.
02:33She's got us a lead to go see this guy named Joe, and I guess he's a big motorcycle collector
02:37and a big music fan.
02:39Wait.
02:40It's right here.
02:41Danielle said he's been traveling for a lot of years, and he's starting to thin out his
02:45collection.
02:46Oh yeah, he's got all these buildings.
02:47Hopefully Frankie and I are going to be able to buy some of this stuff.
02:52Right now.
02:53Frank.
02:54Sam.
02:54Just one moment.
02:57Hey, what's up, man?
02:58Are you Joe?
02:59How you doing?
03:00I'm Joe.
03:00I'm Mike.
03:01Joe, how you doing?
03:01Frank.
03:02You can tell right away from meeting Joe.
03:04He's definitely a character.
03:06Talked to Danny on the phone?
03:07Yes, I did.
03:08Okay, cool.
03:09I guess you said you might be willing to sell a few things.
03:11Joe, here's a little list.
03:12Some of the stuff that we buy and sell, you know.
03:14Oh, man.
03:14Well, can we look around a little bit?
03:16Yeah, do you want to come in here?
03:17What do you want?
03:17What do you got?
03:17You got stuff in here?
03:19Yeah, come on in.
03:22So, right off the bat, I see motorcycle pictures.
03:24I see guitars.
03:25Those are all things I like.
03:27So, has anybody ever told you you look like Sammy Hagar?
03:30Sammy Hagar's a red-hot rocker, man.
03:32Joe can't drive, 55.
03:33One guy told me I look like, um...
03:36Mickey Rourke?
03:37No.
03:39Mickey Rooney.
03:40Mickey Rooney?
03:41I liked Mickey Rooney.
03:42I do, too.
03:43He was cool, man.
03:43Is this you with the pile of money?
03:45Yeah.
03:45What's that?
03:46I love money.
03:48So, is that what you played?
03:49The bass?
03:50No.
03:50I was 10 years old when I first picked up the guitar.
03:53I've worked with Roy Buchan, the greatest guitar player in the world.
03:57He was my mentor.
03:58He taught me to roll.
04:00I mean, this guy's got it going on.
04:02Who's this guy?
04:03That's me when I was 12.
04:05My first motorcycle.
04:06No kidding.
04:07That's you.
04:08That's cool.
04:08Are you still riding, Joe?
04:10Yeah.
04:11That's good.
04:11Joe tells us he's got a few bikes out back.
04:13Let's go.
04:14All right.
04:14Let's check them out.
04:15Where they at?
04:16Let's go over to that building.
04:17This one here?
04:19All right.
04:20Come in, boys.
04:21All right.
04:21Oh, man.
04:26Whoa.
04:27Joe said a few bikes.
04:28But you know what?
04:29This is more than I thought.
04:31Whew.
04:31I think me and Joe are going to get along great.
04:33Is any of this stuff for sale?
04:36Absolutely.
04:37All right.
04:39Look at that.
04:42This is nice, man.
04:43Is it original paint?
04:44No.
04:45This guy's got a 1942 WLA.
04:47It's been restored a long time ago?
04:48Yes.
04:49This is a military bike that Harley Davidson made.
04:52It's restored a long time ago, so it looks like it's original paint.
04:55It's got the sweat.
04:56It's got the dirt.
04:56It's got the patina.
04:57It's got the right look.
05:09It's not every day you find a World War II era Harley in this shape.
05:13I've got to get this bike.
05:14How much is this?
05:19Can we think on it a few?
05:21Hell, yeah.
05:23I could tell that I was overstepping my boundaries, and that's what you have to do as a picker
05:27sometimes.
05:27You have to slow your roll.
05:28You have to bring it back.
05:30We've got to get to know each other, exchange some stories, talk about riding, and then get
05:34into the prices.
05:35Have you raced this one?
05:37No.
05:38But I took it to my shows and stuff, and let little kids sit on and get a picture done.
05:42Oh, that's cool.
05:44We've got some Hummers here.
05:46Yes.
05:46These are cool.
05:47I want to find a project bike, one that he bought, had hopes of fixing up, but he has
05:52it.
05:52Oh, yeah.
05:53Frankie, look at that.
05:54That's pretty.
05:56I look over in the corner here.
05:58Here's this 1972 Cherry Red Triumph.
06:01Is this a 250?
06:03Yes.
06:03It's like a tiger cub?
06:04Yes.
06:05This could be my icebreaker.
06:07Tell me a little bit about it.
06:08It runs great.
06:09Okay.
06:10I checked the tank for rust, and it was surprisingly clean.
06:12Is the motor kick over, Mike?
06:13I checked to see if the pistons were seized.
06:16They weren't.
06:18Oh, man.
06:18That baby's ready for you, Frankie.
06:20It's right here.
06:29Joe, what do you value something like this at?
06:32Well, I could let it go today within the next 30 minutes.
06:3630 minutes on it?
06:37For a grand.
06:38$1,000.
06:39You know what?
06:40There's a little bit of money to be made on this, even at $1,000.
06:42Come on, Fonzie.
06:43Sit on it.
06:44Yeah.
06:45Oh, yeah.
06:45There you go.
06:46How's it feel?
06:46Mmm.
06:48It looks like it was made for you.
06:53How about $800 within the next four minutes?
06:59Let's go nine.
07:01I knew he was going to come back at $900.
07:03I should have said seven.
07:04He'd have went nine.
07:05I'd have went eight.
07:06Eight cash.
07:09Oh.
07:12He's got to check the reserves.
07:15Okay.
07:17$800?
07:18Yes.
07:18Deal.
07:19That was a good motorcycle.
07:20I've had it 20 years.
07:21So it's time to start letting a few things go.
07:24We've only been in one building.
07:25We've already bought one buck.
07:26So Frank can close the deal on his opening offer on this Triumph,
07:29and I can't even get a price on the Harley?
07:32Something is wrong with this pig.
07:34Where are we going?
07:35We're going to this building.
07:36To get this pig on course, I need to find something I want to buy
07:40and Joe wants to sell.
07:41Right this way, though.
07:42Yeah, this is a very nice building here.
07:44There you go.
07:45That's what we like.
07:45Oh, that's nice, man.
07:47Boom.
07:48There it is.
07:48A Harley Flathead, 1935, restored, all there.
07:53You restore that?
07:54Yes, basically.
07:55I'd love to buy this thing.
07:57Is this something you'd sell?
07:59Probably, yeah.
08:02When's the last time it ran?
08:04Eight years ago?
08:05Mm-hmm.
08:05So I'm thinking, okay, if he hasn't ridden this bike,
08:08he's not thinking much of it anymore.
08:11How much is it?
08:12What are you asking for this?
08:15Rock bottom, 18 grand.
08:1818 grand.
08:19If this Flathead had a 10-point restoration,
08:22that would be the landing number on it.
08:23How come he said rock bottom?
08:26He's putting all your cards on the table.
08:28He doesn't want you to go down.
08:29For the restoration that's been done on it,
08:31and the fact that it doesn't run at $18,000,
08:34I had to step away.
08:35You got any old?
08:36Like coats, pennants, trophies, jackets, advertising, posters.
08:40You all the pickers?
08:41We gotta find you.
08:43We walk into the next room, and I see some hope.
08:46Oh, this is the parts room, Frankie.
08:48This is it.
08:48This is it.
08:49What's in there?
08:50Crossbar.
08:55What's up with this fender?
08:56What's this go to?
08:57It goes to a Harley-Davidson 45.
09:00You got the whole bike?
09:01No, it's gone.
09:02What do you got on your Flathead rolling chassis?
09:05I see it's not rolling too good.
09:07Uh, it's not for sale.
09:09I got a pocket full of money.
09:10This guy's got a lot of stuff.
09:11What's wrong with this picture?
09:13What about the pop sign?
09:14Do you know how hard it was to get that out of the dumpster?
09:16How about 25?
09:18Sure, I'll sell it.
09:21What?
09:21How much for the VL motor?
09:23Well, I can't really park with that right now.
09:26Of course not.
09:28How about this little plaque?
09:29It's really close to my heart.
09:31Could you break up with it for 40?
09:32Yeah.
09:33Done deal.
09:34I'm batting a thousand here.
09:35This pic is awesome.
09:36Evil Knievel autographed poster, man.
09:39Oh, I can't park with that.
09:40You can't?
09:41Uh-uh.
09:42Usually on a pic, I'm like a tornado.
09:43I'm like a honey badger.
09:45I'm the guy buying everything.
09:50How old are these?
09:50Are these old?
09:52Probably 50.
09:53I find these really cool patches in a box.
09:56They would have went on the back of a jacket, probably a race team jacket.
09:59What do you want for them?
10:0325 each.
10:0525 bucks each.
10:06And I was like, dang.
10:08How about 25 for the pair?
10:10You better sell them to them.
10:11If you've got somebody here that's going to give you 25 for some patches that you're never going to wear.
10:14All of a sudden, I've got Frankie Fritz helping me out.
10:17He's even feeling sorry for me.
10:19Let's get crazy.
10:21Finally, the wolf is back in the game.
10:24I am crazy.
10:26He was drowning.
10:27I mean, I had to do something.
10:29Come this way, boys.
10:30All right, man.
10:31Show me something I can't live without.
10:33Oh, this is a graveyard?
10:34This is my little graveyard, yes.
10:36V65.
10:37There was a Honda there.
10:38There was a Kawasaki.
10:39There was an old dirt bike.
10:40And right at the end, here's another Triumph.
10:43That's the same bike you just bought, isn't it?
10:45I know.
10:45It's kind of.
10:46There you go.
10:46Parts bike.
10:47It could be a parts bike.
10:48This bike is in Joe's graveyard.
10:49But it makes a great project bike or a parts bike because it's almost complete.
10:53How much is a parts bike?
10:55You make me an offer.
10:56Frank's got this big smile on his face like he opened up a box of moon pies or something.
11:00$200.
11:01That'd be the best I could do.
11:03But I could get out of your way for $200.
11:05Probably no.
11:07Mmm.
11:08But then again, yes.
11:11Dang!
11:12This is Christmas.
11:13Let's go, Santa Claus.
11:14Good deal.
11:14There you go, baby.
11:15Joe said he wanted to lighten his load.
11:17And I think I helped him do that.
11:18Daniel really took care of it today.
11:20I mean, I've bought two motorcycles.
11:22I got a great deal.
11:23I met a great guy.
11:26My side of the van is always more full than Frankie's.
11:29All of a sudden, I'm the guy that doesn't have anything now on a pick.
11:32You going up there?
11:33Yeah, we got plenty.
11:35I got the Triumph for $800.
11:37I know I can get at least $1,500.
11:42I got this pair of race patches for $25.
11:44I'm going to ask $25 apiece.
11:48I bought the car plaque for $40.
11:50I think to the right guy, I get $75 to $100.
11:55We appreciate you calling, man.
11:56I'm going to take my wife somewhere.
11:58Oh, yeah?
11:58With the money?
11:59Yes.
12:00All right.
12:00She probably does.
12:01I'm sure she deserves it.
12:02Oh, yes.
12:02Thank you so much, Joe.
12:04Thank you so much for coming.
12:04All right.
12:05We'll see you again.
12:06All right.
12:06I'm going to take my wife on a vacation.
12:08And we're going to sit back and enjoy everything like I've enjoyed today.
12:12See you later.
12:14See you later.
12:20How about this old guitar?
12:23That is a woman's Martin grill.
12:26These Martin guitars are crazy money.
12:28They can command high dollars.
12:29And the wood that they made these guitars out of, you cannot get anymore.
12:37We got a 30-year class reunion coming up.
12:39I mean, I want to go.
12:40You went without me 10 years ago.
12:42Remember, you even made a connection there.
12:44You sold a guy a motorcycle.
12:45You're going because you want to make connections for selling motorcycles.
12:48No.
12:49Last time I went to my high school reunion, I showed up in a 1939 Harley Davidson.
12:53Now I wanted to show up with my baby, the Plymouth.
12:59All I got to say is, when you're dancing to Casey and the Sunshine Band,
13:03make sure you don't fall off your platform shoes.
13:05Dude, I won't.
13:06Because you're going to hurt yourself, and then you're not going to be able to pick.
13:08Oh, my God.
13:11Today, we're going to see a guy named Mike Miracle.
13:14Mike has fallen on some hard times due to the recession.
13:16He's thinking about letting go a few things, and that's why he called us.
13:19Is this it?
13:20If this is it, there's a lot of buildings, my brother.
13:22What's there?
13:23Six, seven, eight.
13:24Oh, he has a ton of stuff.
13:25I see eight separate buildings, and there's so much stuff falling out of them.
13:29It's crazy.
13:31This place looks good, Frankie.
13:33Hey, hell, we haven't even freestyled this place.
13:35No doubt.
13:35Hey.
13:36How you doing?
13:37Hey, you Mike?
13:37Yeah.
13:38Hey, I'm Mike.
13:38Hi, Mike.
13:39Glad to meet you.
13:39Nice to meet you.
13:40Frank Fritz.
13:41Frank, glad to meet you.
13:42Here's a flyer of ours.
13:42This gives you kind of a guideline on some of the things we buy, you know?
13:45Uh-huh.
13:46You said you guys have been collecting a long time, like your whole family.
13:48Yeah, it's just been getting out of hand for 20 years or so.
13:52My mom and dad started going to farm auctions, and when there would be a box or something
13:58that didn't sell, and the auctioneer would holler, who'll give me a dollar for this?
14:02My dad would say, I will.
14:05And that's how most of this stuff ended up here.
14:08If you want, we can head out and start taking a look around.
14:11Heck yeah.
14:12Start at the big building and work our way around.
14:14Yeah, that's cool.
14:15I was 11 years old when we moved up here.
14:17It's our own little piece of paradise.
14:20Kind of messy paradise right now, but it's still paradise.
14:24Pa pulled these in from other places, and there's junk in just about every one of them.
14:30All right.
14:30So this is his place?
14:31Yes.
14:32Okay.
14:33My parents are getting up to the age where they could use some help around here,
14:37and we were hit by this economy.
14:40This looks like quite the big building.
14:42No doubt, dude.
14:43This thing's packed.
14:44It's kind of the family circling the wagons here for hard times, and, you know,
14:49we'll get through it.
14:50Oh, man.
14:52A lot of stuff.
14:52You guys have been trying some stuff.
14:54Wow.
14:55I hope you're prepared to get your hands dirty.
14:57Oh, yeah.
15:00We're definitely in snow country.
15:07What about these Pepsi ribbon lights?
15:10These are made around the 60s, and they're plastic, but they're not broken.
15:14These are very hard to find, not broken.
15:16I don't know.
15:16What would you say to 20 a piece on that?
15:20I'm not your guy on those.
15:22These are plastic.
15:22They're not that old.
15:23Actually, I was thinking about five bucks, because they're not worth that much money,
15:26but it's something to break the ice.
15:28Five for the set.
15:28I'll keep them at that.
15:30Okay.
15:32I've always been the person that likes junk.
15:35I see that.
15:37Hey, Mike, what about this?
15:38Oh, that came out of my grandpa's woodshed when they moved off the farm.
15:43I see this political plate.
15:44It's really cool.
15:45It's got Richard Nixon on it.
15:46It's made in 1972.
15:48Political stuff's very, very collectible.
15:59What would you have to have for something like this?
16:01Hmm.
16:03I'd let it go for 10 bucks.
16:05If you want, remember when you said 20 on those PBR lights?
16:08Mm-hmm.
16:09Throw this, and I'll do the 20.
16:10Sounds good.
16:11All right.
16:12I can see these guys collect about anything, so I'm anxious to get into these next buildings.
16:16You might find a thing or two in this one.
16:18All right.
16:19All right.
16:19So Frank and I are going building to building to building.
16:23Yeah!
16:24And we're finding out that one man's junk is one man's junk.
16:28A lot of pigeon stuff in here.
16:29I don't see anything in there I can't live without.
16:31There's stuff in the house that we can look at.
16:33You know, it'd really be nice if we could get some money going here so we could help Mike and
16:36his family.
16:37Got some stuff here.
16:39Wow.
16:39Now's where I see the good stuff.
16:43Pretty much anything in this room is open to picking.
16:46First thing I see is a leather coat, man.
16:48Not just any leather coat.
16:50I'm talking Marlon Brando style here.
16:52No way.
16:53It's got the studs in the shoulders, fur-lined collar.
16:55It's a, uh, Monarch.
16:58Let's take it out of here.
17:00Oh, yeah.
17:01Look at that.
17:02Put it on.
17:03Bits perfect.
17:04How much is this?
17:05Oh, I don't have a...
17:07Shoot me an offer and see how I feel.
17:10Uh...
17:12This fur collar come off of here?
17:14Yeah, that snaps on.
17:15Alright, that's cool.
17:19Um...
17:1975 bucks.
17:22Sold.
17:24Alright.
17:25Vintage leather always sells.
17:2775 bucks.
17:28Sweet deal.
17:32This is a cool toy if it had its arm.
17:34It's been all colored in.
17:35Yeah.
17:37How about this, uh, bullet-ridden cow?
17:40This is off of a weather vane.
17:41It's got a great folk art look to it.
17:43It's got a lot of bullet holes, but to me, it's got personality.
17:45How's 10 bucks on it?
17:4710 bucks.
17:48It's cool.
17:49It's a neat wall hanger.
17:51I'm ready.
17:51Alright, thanks.
17:52I'm happy to give Mike's family a cash infusion.
17:54Even though these are smalls, all this money adds up.
17:5715 bucks.
17:58Would you come up to 20?
18:00Alright.
18:00Cool.
18:01Mike's going crazy.
18:02He's buying all kinds of smalls.
18:03Alright.
18:05We get into the second room.
18:07Now, here's my room.
18:08I see these three model cars.
18:10They're really cool.
18:11They're in great condition.
18:12You remember playing with these?
18:13Oh, yeah.
18:14All the time.
18:15That's why one's missing a wheel.
18:16Sure.
18:17One's missing a wheel, but that's no biggie.
18:19I mean, these things are hard to find.
18:21Where'd you get them?
18:22My great-uncle Stanley.
18:24What do you want for these?
18:25What would you say to 40 for the three of them?
18:33I was thinking about 10 apiece.
18:36About 30.
18:38Alright.
18:3930?
18:39This could have the spare wheel in the trunk.
18:41So, I'm looking right behind the cars here that I find,
18:44and here's two paper mache jack-o-lanterns.
18:46How much are the jack-o-lanterns here, Mike?
18:49Oh.
18:51That one's got the little lid on it.
18:54The wire.
18:54The wire one doesn't.
18:56These are really hard to find.
18:57They're vintage, and they're very, very highly collectible.
19:00You give me 10 for the pair of them?
19:02Sure.
19:03That's fine.
19:03Alrighty.
19:04Look at these.
19:05Cool.
19:06There's some kind of strange glasses.
19:08These are the most unusual thing I've seen this week.
19:10Full moon, dude.
19:13It's like alabaster glass.
19:14That's what I'm thinking right now.
19:16When you see something different, and it's the first time you've ever seen it, you better
19:19try to buy it.
19:20How much are these?
19:21I'd let you have the pair for 30.
19:25Sex sells.
19:2615 feet.
19:27Alrighty.
19:27I thought they were a really unique piece that I've never seen before.
19:3030 bucks.
19:31It was all right by me.
19:35Frank, you like tuna.
19:36You know, Mike had a lot of unique things in the house, you know?
19:39I mean, they weren't really big items, but unique items sell really fast at the shop.
19:421933.
19:44Most of these magazines look like they're from the 30s.
19:47So you got detective magazines.
19:49Western magazines.
19:50You got some Ace High magazines, Detective Story.
19:54These are cool, man.
19:55These magazines, to me, the covers of them are artwork.
19:58Bungling the Lindbergh kidnapping case.
20:13Gangster's war for Capone's police districts.
20:16Terror in Chicago.
20:18I'm realizing that I want all of them.
20:20There's some really cool subject matters here.
20:22This stuff is what sells really easy.
20:24So how about one price?
20:26One price.
20:29What are you thinking about it?
20:30I like the subject matter.
20:31The covers are amazing, but the condition is not there.
20:35How about 60 bucks for all of them?
20:42That sounds fair.
20:43All right.
20:44All right.
20:44All right, cool.
20:45We're taking out a few things from you in here.
20:47Yeah, we're putting a dent in this place.
20:49Mike tells us he's got one more thing that he wants to show us.
20:57Man, this is cool, Frankie.
20:59What's this say?
20:59Howie Gamber's Country Show.
21:02This is some dude's honky-tonk chariot, man.
21:05I'm talking Howie Gamber.
21:06Who knows who that dude is, but whoever he was,
21:08he was rolling large.
21:10So where'd you get it at?
21:11Like outside of a bar?
21:12Like the motor blew up and they just left it?
21:14I think it was part of a consignment auction, actually.
21:19Oh, yeah.
21:20Yeah, man.
21:21Look at this thing.
21:22I feel like I'm Leonard Skinner right now.
21:24It's cool.
21:24Shag from the top to the bottom.
21:26This must have been the master bedroom, man.
21:28This is Howie's room, man.
21:30This honky-tonk chariot is pimped out cowboy style.
21:33How much is it?
21:35200 bucks.
21:37200 bucks?
21:38I wasn't interested in the bus until Mike said 200 bucks,
21:41and then all of a sudden I saw myself on tour.
21:44If this guy's still around, maybe he'd want this back.
21:47You never know.
21:48I'm going to get these photos off to Danielle
21:50and get her bird dogging on who this guy is, where he's at,
21:54and if he's going to want this bus deal.
21:55Because if he does, I want to be the guy that sells it to him.
21:58We're going to do a little investigation on this guy.
22:00Okay.
22:00I don't know how we can get it out of here.
22:02That's the problem.
22:02We're not going to jump on this bus deal just yet.
22:05It's too big a risk unless we can find the original owner.
22:07Most of these coats this old, they're all dry rotted.
22:10I bought the vintage motorcycle leather jacket for 75 bucks.
22:14I'm going to ask 200.
22:17I bought the two pivotal shade jack-o-lanterns for $10.
22:20I think they're worth at least 35 a piece.
22:23I bought all of these magazines for $60.
22:26I'm going to ask 10 bucks a piece for them.
22:30Nice to meet you, Mike.
22:31Very cool to meet you.
22:32Thanks for showing us around.
22:33It's been a pleasure.
22:34Mike and Frank were great, and it was a lot of fun.
22:36They bought a few things.
22:37We made a few bucks.
22:39You take care now, guys.
22:40All right, thank you.
22:41Happy picking.
22:42You got it.
22:50I'm going to the reunion.
22:51Later, Frank!
22:52Let Frank go have his fun.
22:54In the meantime, me and Danny are going to keep on picking.
22:56What up?
22:58Are you ready to pick?
22:59I'm ready to pick!
23:00Bam!
23:07Who's that, Danielle?
23:09Hello?
23:10Hey, I'm calling for Mike or Frank.
23:13Hey, this is Mike and Frank.
23:14What's up?
23:16Mike, Danielle called me.
23:18She said she found my old boss.
23:20This is Holly Gamber.
23:21Holly?
23:22Hey, what's up, Holly?
23:24I cannot believe that Danielle was actually able to track down Howie Gamber.
23:29He's the old-time country singer that used to own the decked-out custom tour bus we found on Mike's
23:34farm.
23:34You got to tell us, man, with an interior like that, if you're rolling large down the road, you had
23:39to have some honky-tonk angels in there, didn't you?
23:41Oh, we did, yeah.
23:43I thought that was 40-some years ago.
23:46That's what brought me a lot of misery, man.
23:50Yeah, I don't want that damn thing back.
23:52Unfortunately, Howie doesn't have a need for the bus anymore, but we're not going to forget about it.
23:57All right, buddy.
23:58We've got to take a reason.
23:59All right.
23:59Keep on keeping on.
24:04You know what, Mike?
24:05I don't want to end up like some old country song, you know, all by myself, you know?
24:09Then go to the reunion.
24:11I'm going to the reunion.
24:12But if you're going to go, you got to bring the Plymouth.
24:14You got to go in style.
24:15I'm going in style.
24:17Because you picking with Danny's not going to be the same, but I'm going to give you my blessing.
24:21I appreciate that.
24:23There's nothing better than showing up to the class reunion looking like a hotshot.
24:27And that's what I want to do.
24:29Later, Frank!
24:31Let Frank go have his fun.
24:32In the meantime, me and Danny are going to keep on picking.
24:35What up?
24:36So, Mikey's going to take me picking.
24:37What's awesome about picking?
24:39Hmm, I don't know.
24:40Everything?
24:41How was your flight?
24:42Awesome.
24:43Are you ready to pick?
24:44I'm ready to pick!
24:45You ready to bring it?
24:46Dude, look, it's broad.
24:47Bam!
24:51Today's a big day for Danny.
24:53I'm going to put her in the driver's seat so I can keep my eyes peeled on some good freestyling.
24:58We're freestyling today.
24:59When you're going 70, you can't see anything.
25:01When you're freestyling, just go the speed limit.
25:04Just kind of slow it down.
25:05But when you're watching the road, kind of peripheral vision.
25:09You know, just kind of like that building there.
25:11See that?
25:11You just missed all those signs right there.
25:13Ooh, should we turn around?
25:14No, steady antique shop.
25:15It's already been found.
25:16It's already been marked up.
25:17We're in the business of finding things, okay?
25:20Yeah, but you said slow down because of signs.
25:22And then you're telling me it's an antique shop.
25:24You're the one who pointed it out.
25:25I wanted you to slow down and notice the signs.
25:27See, you drove by and didn't even notice the signs.
25:30Good.
25:30All right, go right here.
25:32Hold on now.
25:32Okay, hold on.
25:33I think I see something back here.
25:35All right.
25:35All of a sudden, out of the corner of my eye, I see these old buses.
25:39We're not buying an old bus.
25:40Not really excited about them.
25:42Old buses can lead to other things.
25:43Pull this way.
25:44All right, this looks good.
25:45Look at all that stuff in there.
25:47All right.
25:47Go on.
25:48Go on.
25:49All right.
25:49You got the flyer?
25:50Yeah.
25:51Can I help you?
25:52Hey, I saw your old buses.
25:54You in the bus business?
25:56I guess.
25:57I've been in all kind of business.
25:59We're from Iowa.
25:59We're pickers.
26:00You know what a picker is?
26:01Here's a flyer of ours.
26:02This is stuff we buy.
26:04Yeah.
26:05Well, usually when I got things, I'm a bail bondsman.
26:07When I see something that says wanted, I think that's...
26:09You're in the bail bonds business?
26:11Yep.
26:12So if we're in Virginia and we get in trouble?
26:14Oh, we can get you out.
26:15You're the guy to call?
26:15Good deal.
26:16All right.
26:17Well, we're buying stuff.
26:18Looks like you buy some stuff too.
26:20I've been sick for several years and some of these buildings I haven't been in in five
26:25years.
26:26I've had eight strokes.
26:27I ain't ready to go yet.
26:29And I keep hanging around.
26:31So you've been collecting for a while?
26:32Since I was 12 years old.
26:34Really?
26:35Yeah.
26:35Bill has been buying and trading things for years, a lot longer than I've been alive.
26:40Can we look in here a little bit?
26:42Did you bring any money with you?
26:43I got a pocket full of money.
26:45Oh, well, then look all you want too.
26:46I can't take it to heaven with me, so I'm selling.
26:50I'm going to sell it all.
26:51All right.
26:52Look at that.
26:53Dang.
26:54This is a gasoline room.
26:56Wow.
26:56It's everything gas and oil related that Mike absolutely loves.
27:02He's got gas pumps.
27:03He's got globes.
27:04He's got a jukebox.
27:06This is exactly what I dream about when we're freestyling.
27:09I'm looking around and I see the Dr. Pepper machine.
27:12I had that in the first gas station I ever owned.
27:14What year was that?
27:15I don't know.
27:17I still remember all that stuff.
27:191958.
27:20It's an upright.
27:21It's a 10 cent machine.
27:22It's got a two cent tax decal on it.
27:25I mean, this thing is cool.
27:26This is cracked.
27:27Yeah, it adds a little character to it.
27:31You sound like me.
27:32These things are very rare.
27:34You always see Coca-Cola machines.
27:35You never see Dr. Pepper uprights.
27:37Drink Dr. Pepper.
27:39Come on.
27:39Be a pepper.
27:40Drink Dr. Pepper.
27:42Be a pepper.
27:44Be a pepper.
27:51What do you got to have for this?
27:53450.
27:55How about 400 bucks?
27:57All right.
27:58400?
27:59Yeah.
28:00All right, my friend.
28:01I couldn't get the money out of my pocket fast enough.
28:03This is where we break the ice.
28:05I'm into it.
28:06So we're looking around at all the dairy stuff.
28:08He's got clocks.
28:09He's got some signage.
28:10He's got a lot of bottles.
28:11Were you in the dairy business?
28:12No, but I went to work at the dairy at 12 years old.
28:15And on Saturday, I rode the milk truck.
28:17And they're the ones that taught me how to drive.
28:1912?
28:20How long did you stay in it?
28:21Well, when I was 15, they gave me the school route.
28:23Okay.
28:24And when that was over, I went to Minnesota to be a lawyer.
28:26You're a lawyer, huh?
28:27No.
28:28It did take me long to find out I couldn't lie that much.
28:32So was that when you decided to become a bail bondsman?
28:34Cool.
28:35No?
28:35God put me in the bail bonding business.
28:37Oh, really?
28:38Yeah, I was in real estate for 30 years.
28:40So you've wore a lot of different hats.
28:41Oh, yeah.
28:42It started out with a milk hat, though.
28:45How about this license plate topper?
28:47Keep them flying.
28:48That's from World War II.
28:50I love that.
28:51What do you give me for?
28:52$30.
28:53Good golly, yeah.
28:55All right.
28:56How about $40 on the Ford can?
28:58How about $50?
28:59$50 it is.
29:00Mike's just going crazy like a kid in a candy store.
29:03Then I noticed something that kind of made me feel like a kid in a candy store.
29:07This candy bar machine over here, the five-cent candy bar machine?
29:10Yeah, with Hershey on it.
29:12Yeah.
29:12How many of them have you seen?
29:14One.
29:14It's in front of me right now.
29:15That's right.
29:16The patina on it was really neat.
29:17It was a nice green color.
29:19But I might give y'all a real deal on that and let y'all have it for $200.
29:24I think you're doing yourself a favor.
29:27Doing myself a favor.
29:28I think $200 is a bit rich for me, but I can do $125.
29:32I can do that.
29:33Well, you're going to put me on food stamps.
29:36Well, I don't want to do that, sir.
29:38How about one and a half?
29:40Okay, one and a half I'll do.
29:42All right.
29:42All right, bam.
29:43Whenever we have a vintage candy machine in the shop, it sells right away.
29:47We got a shake on this.
29:48I'm a southern gentleman.
29:50If I tell you today's Sunday, you get your Bible and go on to church.
29:53All right.
29:54Don't even have to look at the gallery.
29:56This guy is a true southern gentleman.
29:58Those guys don't really exist anymore.
30:00I love that type of dude.
30:02What's the deal with the globe here?
30:04I haven't seen one like this.
30:05No, you haven't.
30:06And we've looked in catalogs and we've looked everywhere.
30:09Oh, that's heavy.
30:09Cool motor.
30:10Cool motor.
30:11That was a forerunner of city service.
30:13I've only seen one of these in pictures before and maybe in a large collection.
30:17But I have never had the opportunity to buy one.
30:20And I've had offers that would blow your mind.
30:23What kind of offers have you had?
30:24I mean, just school me a little bit.
30:26I've had close to $2,000.
30:27Really?
30:28Yeah.
30:29Dang.
30:30This has got an unusual shape to it.
30:32Bright colors.
30:33It's all glass.
30:34A lot of these globes have metal sides.
30:36This is one of the rarest gas globes that you can buy.
30:51I love it.
30:52I know how rare this piece is.
30:54I'd do 1,800 on it.
30:58No.
31:00What are you thinking?
31:01Well, I'm thinking three, but I'm going to let you have it today on a special deal for
31:06$2,000.
31:07Today only?
31:08Two grand?
31:09Yeah.
31:09Oh, man.
31:10This is one of Bill's prize pieces, and he's not playing around with the prices.
31:15$18.50.
31:16Oh, come on.
31:18Give me my two, and that way I'll sleep tonight.
31:22Whew.
31:23You know yourself.
31:24All right.
31:25I want you to sleep like a baby.
31:26All right.
31:27Two grand.
31:27Okay.
31:28All right, man.
31:28I love it.
31:29I'm the proud owner of a cool motor globe.
31:35We open the doors, and all of a sudden, I'm in the middle of an Oddfellows lodge.
31:39Oddfellows used to be the world's largest fraternal order.
31:42It's around the world.
31:43And the Oddfellows still an active organization?
31:46Oh, Lord, yeah.
31:47He is like the king of one of the Oddfellows lodges.
31:49It was a secret society.
31:56We got that trailer over here on a full.
31:58We got these three tractor trailers sitting over here full.
32:01This is awesome.
32:02Bill tells us he's been filling up those semi-trailers for years.
32:05There's advertising.
32:06There's cone-topped beer cans.
32:08And the farther you get back into that semi-trailer, the older the stuff gets.
32:13Yeah, what up?
32:14This actually could be a mega pick.
32:16Oh, hey.
32:17Beer tray.
32:17Oh, you picked up that $1,000 tray, huh?
32:22You know, it's hard to learn to sell when you've collected as long as I have.
32:26But once you've decided to do it, it gets easier every day.
32:30Oh, that's Ms. Triplett and Mr. Triplett.
32:33Can't go.
32:34It's got to stay.
32:35She raised me.
32:36He was dead.
32:37Well, I was left at the hospital.
32:38I don't know who my mother and father was.
32:40And a 58-year-old widow, she picked me up and adopted me.
32:45Beautiful.
32:46She was a tough old cookie.
32:48I think there's a lot of stuff in this trailer.
32:52These semi-trailers are amazing.
32:54You can usually pick them up for like $1,500, $2,000.
32:57And that's why a lot of guys store things in these.
33:02How about this old guitar?
33:05Did you replace the back of it?
33:06Oh, somebody else.
33:07That is a woman's Martin.
33:09Really?
33:10These Martin guitars are crazy money.
33:12They can command high dollars.
33:15It's warped here, too.
33:16This one is rough.
33:18I mean, it might as well have been a boat anchor.
33:29You found it where?
33:31Out in the field.
33:32Really?
33:33Yeah.
33:34You found it in a field.
33:35These Martin guitars, these early ones, late 30s, early 40s are extremely hard to find.
33:41And the wood that they made these guitars out of, you cannot get anymore.
33:45So guys, when they see these old guitars, even if they're in poor condition, they'll want to buy them.
33:51About $100.
33:53Got it.
33:54All right.
33:54This is a great find.
33:55It's in rough condition, but it's still very rare.
33:58I want to get it appraised.
33:59This the last one?
34:00The trailer-wise?
34:01Semi-trailer?
34:02This is a trailer that Bill said he hasn't been in for years.
34:05He opened the doors, and all of a sudden, I'm in the middle of an Oddfellows lodge.
34:09Oddfellows used to be the world's largest return orders around the world.
34:13Is the Oddfellows still an active organization?
34:16Oh, Lord, yeah.
34:17Because I see a lot of Masonic lodges, but I never see Oddfellows.
34:19Bill explains to us that he is like the king of one of the Oddfellows lodges,
34:24and all throughout that region, he empties out lodges that have closed.
34:41Masonic Lodge and Oddfellows lodges, they're gone.
34:44The young people just...
34:45Well, you know, quite obviously, we do still have interest.
34:47It's just a mystery to us, so...
34:49Well, it's a mystery.
34:50And we like mysteries.
34:51It was a secret society.
34:52The idea of it in England, what it was, people out of work, members of the lodge,
34:57would give them money, and they'd go to the next town, try to get a job.
34:59And if it couldn't, that lodge would give them money, and they'd go on.
35:02And while they were gone, you'd put food on the people's porch.
35:06And people would say, who, who, lift them people's foods, hit all that bunch of Oddfellows.
35:11That's that guy that's named.
35:13What a rich piece of history.
35:15A lot of this Oddfellows stuff in this trailer dates back into the early 1800s.
35:21I pull up an old sign, double-sided glass.
35:24It says Oddfellows, and it says Rebecca's.
35:27Hey, Bill, how about this old sign?
35:29What's the Rebecca's?
35:31That's the ladies part of the Oddfellows.
35:33Oh, they had their own organization, the ladies.
35:36Yeah.
35:36Oddfellows is the first paternal organization that opened up a second group for women of Oddfellows members.
35:42Do you know where the name Rebecca's came from?
35:45Yeah.
35:45What was it?
35:46Schaller and Colfax, the vice president of the United States under Ulysses Grant,
35:51picked it out and formed a ladies group.
35:54Dang.
35:55You're on top of it.
35:57What do you got to have for this?
35:58I don't know.
35:59Whatever you give me goes to the lodge.
36:01All right, how about $100?
36:05I think that's plenty.
36:07All right, I'm gonna put it back down here before I break it.
36:10This is a very unique and hard-to-get sign.
36:12Collectors of Americana are gonna be lined up to get this.
36:18These Oddfellows trailers go on forever.
36:22I see this really old wooden crate.
36:25I gotta see what's in this thing.
36:31Found this old projector.
36:33Oh, that's cool.
36:35You dogging right, that's cool.
36:37That's 1800 stuff.
36:39It's an old projector with wooden slides.
36:43Mike, I don't know if that camera works.
36:46I wouldn't buy it on the premise that it did.
36:48It's a very unusual item because it's got the Oddfellows slides in it and it's in the original crate.
36:54I'd say it's around the turn of the century, but someone at some point has electrified it.
36:59The original reflector is still in here, but they've put a porcelain light socket in here and a bulb.
37:06I could see everybody in the late 1800s sitting in the lodge looking at these old slides.
37:14And you're mesmerized because back then they didn't have radio.
37:17They didn't have television.
37:18They didn't have the internet.
37:19When you see something like that projected on the wall, it's a powerful moment.
37:24Can I make you an offer on this?
37:25You sure can.
37:26I'd be interested in it for a couple hundred bucks.
37:33I personally think it's worth a whole lot more than that.
37:36Well, what are you thinking?
37:37All right, I'm going to make you a real cheap deal.
37:39How about $350?
37:41$350?
37:43How about $250?
37:45Look at the slides.
37:46I saw the slides.
37:49Here it is.
37:50Oh, wow.
37:51I've only seen one in my whole career.
37:54Oh, yeah.
37:55Well, what would something like this be worth?
37:56If this was in really great shape, this could be worth well over $10,000.
38:00Be real.
38:03All right, I'm going to make you a real cheap deal.
38:05How about $350?
38:07$350?
38:09How about $250?
38:10Look at the slides.
38:12I saw the slides.
38:14How about $250?
38:15How about $3?
38:19All right, $3.
38:21Boom.
38:21We settle at $300.
38:23Now, I paid up a little bit for this thing, but I love it, man.
38:26And when you're on the road, you have to find those pieces that really spark your interest.
38:31That's exactly what this does.
38:33Look at this.
38:33This is the original box of this.
38:35Oh, isn't that so cool?
38:36I love this.
38:37Look at that.
38:37You know what?
38:38This was an amazing pic when we met a guy like Bill.
38:41My mother never would let me drink, cuss, smoke, chew, gamble, lie, fool with fast women or slow horses.
38:47And that's what keeps us on the road is meeting guys like Bill and hearing the stories behind these items.
38:53Because if there is no story, there might as well not be an item.
38:58I paid $150 for the vintage Hershey candy machine.
39:01I think I can get $300 out of it.
39:05I'm going to put it right next to my bed.
39:07I paid $2,000 for the early cool motor globe.
39:10I'm going to ask $2,800.
39:14I got the Martin guitar for $100.
39:16I'm going to have it appraised.
39:20You got to say goodbye to your baby.
39:22There was just some connection with Bill that I just didn't want to leave.
39:27I just wanted to hang out.
39:28I wanted to drink sweet tea with him.
39:29All right, my friend.
39:30Thank you so much.
39:31It was an honor.
39:32It's been real nice.
39:34I loved it.
39:34And I've had a good time today working with y'all.
39:37I'm going to miss you.
39:38I'm going to miss y'all.
39:39Today, my experience with Mike and Danielle is much better than I expected.
39:45We worked together, you know, pretty good.
39:48But I was the best negotiator.
39:51All right, buddy.
39:51Thanks.
39:52See you later.
39:53Today was an amazing pick.
39:55I'm going to throw it out there.
39:56I'm going to say mega pick.
39:58For Danielle to be there with me, it was awesome.
40:01Drive safe.
40:02Frankie missed out on a killer freestyle.
40:10What did you think of that Martin guitar I got?
40:12Oh, man.
40:13Ever since we bought this Martin guitar off Bill, it's been driving me crazy.
40:17I mean, I know Martin guitars are good, but this one's in really rough shape.
40:20I just wanted to have an idea on the value of it.
40:23So I worked my magic and I found Tim.
40:26Hey, are you Tim?
40:27Hi.
40:27Yes, you must be Danielle.
40:29Hi, Danielle.
40:29Nice to meet you.
40:31Nice to meet you.
40:32Here it is.
40:33Oh, wow.
40:34Yeah.
40:35Mike and Danielle brought me in an R18 archtop Martin guitar.
40:39Very rare.
40:39I've only seen one in my whole career so far.
40:43Now, Martin's is pretty much the standard to which all are judged.
40:46What makes Martin so special?
40:48This is an archtop guitar.
40:50Carved tops like this with F holes.
40:52What they're best known for are like these flat tops.
40:55That was put out right about the same time these were.
40:59So what's the difference between the flat top and the archtop?
41:00Well, this is a much louder guitar.
41:03This had a nice, sweeter, mellower voice to it.
41:06Okay.
41:07And they made these guitars in response to Gibson in the Jazzier in the 30s.
41:20But I'm guessing this was probably made in the 1935, 1936 range.
41:25Really?
41:25These initially sold for $55 back then.
41:28So Martin was an expensive guitar from the beginning.
41:31Well, what would something like this be worth if it was like really nice?
41:34If this was in really great shape, you know, mint condition, lacquer finish, everything intact on this, this could be
41:41worth well over $10,000.
41:43Really?
41:43$15,000.
41:45Yeah.
41:46$10,000 to $15,000?
41:47That blew my mind.
41:49But this, unfortunately, has seen a hard life.
41:51Well, let me tell you where I got it.
41:52I got it from an older gentleman and he said he found it in a field.
41:56Ooh.
41:57Okay.
41:57So yeah, this thing has not had a sweet life.
42:00Well, we'll start with the top and go from there.
42:02The neck is cracked.
42:04There's a crack here.
42:05There's a crack here.
42:06It's missing a bridge.
42:07The top is bellied up quite a bit from being out in the field.
42:10The frets are gone.
42:11Big hole right there.
42:13Uh-huh.
42:13The nut is missing.
42:14And the back is apparently some kind of flooring material they used back then.
42:19Well, what's it worth in this condition?
42:22It would have value as far as like a neck, you know, replacement neck and the replacement keys.
42:27You could probably, you know, get $300, $500 for the parts alone.
42:36Well, see, I'm sitting pretty good then.
42:37Yeah.
42:37I paid $100 for it.
42:38Oh.
42:39You know.
42:39Yeah.
42:40Well, again, for something made in the 30s pre-war, you can't go wrong either way.
42:44I certainly would have bought it for $100 if I had found this guitar.
42:48Thank you so much for your time.
42:49Nice to see y'all.
42:50I appreciate it.
42:50Thank you very much.
42:51Nice to meet you.
42:52Nice to meet you.
42:52Nice to meet you.
42:52Appreciate it a lot.
42:53Y'all have a safe trip.
42:55I paid $100 for the Martin guitar.
42:57If I wanted to sell it to somebody that would probably part it out, I could get $500.
43:04I wonder how Frankie's doing at the reunion.
43:07It was a long bus ride home, but I'm back and I'm ready for my high school reunion.
43:20After a year and a half of working on this car, having everything fixed on it, everybody's
43:25going to see it.
43:26I've lost five pounds.
43:27I'm looking good.
43:28Are you kidding me?
43:33Come on.
43:38Come on, all times.
43:47Damn it.
43:48Peace.
