Transcript
00:05and let's cut across straight to the big news development coming to us right from
00:10bharat mandapam where the ai summit is happening and this is an india today world exclusive that
00:17we're about to bring to you india today has now spoken with the french president macron
00:23he has of course spoken about host of issues from ai to other developments also has spoken on rafal
00:31he has also spoken about how rafal makes india's defense stronger and he has also interestingly
00:39bagged made in india rafals as well now remember the french president is here in india long-standing
00:47friend of india as well constantly talking about the exchange of ideas and industry that takes place
00:54he addressed this morning at the bharat mandapam along with several other ceos especially from
01:01the big tech that came in and now in a tete-a-tete in a exclusive chat that india today
01:08has had with
01:09him he has opened up his heart about so many other issues let's in fact give you a quick glimpse
01:17into
01:17that and i don't i don't see how people can criticize because it makes your country stronger
01:24it increases the strategic relation between us and it creates more jobs here and so very clearly
01:30we are extremely uh i would say committed to uh having a maximum number of indian components
01:40and manufacturing maximum number of critical device in india this is exactly uh the the rational
01:48and there's the data airbus deal so we will do the same for uh for the rafal you can count
01:53on this
01:54as for the free speech yes uh first i i see i saw a lot of people just quoting a
02:00small part of what i
02:01saw what i what i said uh my point was just to say i i do believe in free speech
02:07but what does it mean
02:08free speech means i will listen to you you will listen to me and we are in an equal relationship
02:14yes yes a lot of people defending free speech do it based on algorithm without any transparency
02:23with a lot of bias and with their own political agenda it's not free speech and when people
02:31clearly help hatred speech racist speech to be spread all around the place it's not about free speech
02:39it's a jungle
02:43all right that's a quick glimpse uh and conversation that india today managed to have
02:47uh with a french president macron over there my colleague pranay opadhyay joins us for more on this
02:53uh pranay specifically on rafal he says that i don't know why people criticize the entire matter
03:01he says this makes our country your country stronger talking to india he's saying it only
03:07makes india stronger i don't understand why people criticize it also he responded to a question about
03:14free speech take us to what exactly has he said absolutely so and when i asked him about uh the
03:21criticism of rafal because we have seen that how the platform got criticized uh and in fact uh got
03:26into a political controversy uh as well in 2019 onward and during the after the opposition but
03:31he said that uh this is a this is a good platform and i don't know why it is being
03:35criticized but this
03:36only makes india stronger and uh i i think that's the validation of the fact that the government of
03:41india has decided to buy 114 uh rafal fighter jets uh besides that he also said that you know uh
03:46he looks
03:47forward for having more indigenized uh components in the rafal aircraft and this is a new kind of
03:52partnership uh where france and india uh would want to take forward uh having the joint production
03:57joint research uh as far as the rafal platform and other military platforms are concerned and he
04:02uh also emphasized the fact that you know uh that india and france are looking at a global special
04:08strategic partnership which has the global angle and this is also special which is unique to india
04:13and france what uh prime minister moody and president macron has agreed and trying to build
04:18this relationship and also uh as far as the free speech is concerned he tried uh you know my intention
04:23was to uh to ask him uh about uh a clarification because uh you know most of the media outlets
04:29have
04:29covered uh his statement wherein he said that you know all free speech uh uh and the and the argument
04:35of free speech by these tech giant is a bullshit so he said that you know people have taken only
04:39a part
04:40of my speech but uh my idea is that you know i'm a votary of a free speech but uh
04:45in in in this case
04:46uh you know uh the free speech should be free and there should be not be algorithmic manipulations
04:51behind that the political agenda shouldn't be pursued in the name of free speech and therefore
04:56the free speech should be really free in terms of the influence and the political um the political
05:01engineering of the algorithms expand on that pranay a little bit but before we do that let's try and
05:08listen to that entire interaction uh you had with macro one more time we'll come back i want to
05:13uh go down a little deeper on this free speech aspect of it you'll stay on with us
05:19and i don't i don't see how people can criticize because it makes your country stronger it increases
05:25the strategic relation between us and it creates more jobs here and so very clearly we are extremely
05:32uh i would say committed to uh having a maximum number of indian components and manufacturing maximum
05:43number of of critical device in india this is exactly uh the the rational and does the data airbus deal
05:50so we will do the same for for the rafael you can count on this as for the free speech
05:56yes uh first i i
05:58see i saw a lot of people just quoting a small part of what i saw what i what i
06:03said uh my point
06:04was just to say i i do believe in free speech but what does it mean free speech means i
06:10will listen
06:11to you you will listen to me and we are in an equal relationship yes a lot of people defending
06:18free
06:19speech do it based on algorithm without any transparency with a lot of bias and with their own political agenda
06:27um it's not free speech and when people clearly help hatred speech racist speech to be spread all
06:37around the place it's not about free speech it's a jungle ah very interesting very very interesting
06:46conversation over there prane that you've had with macro uh what exactly was your question on free
06:51speech i want to understand on on the way he has responded uh i exactly asked i have also shared
06:57uh you know the question uh what what i asked also if you can play that question as well but
07:02uh you know
07:03let me let me reiterate my question because i asked president uh president emmanuel macrob uh uh his
07:08about his media statement which is which appeared in many uh international outlets as well that he called out
07:14the uh the the free speech the argument of free speech by the tech giant as a bullshit so to
07:20which he
07:20responded that only part of my statement was taken but what he explained his position and he said
07:25that you know this should be free i am a votary of a free speech i want free speech to
07:29be exercised
07:30but it should be uh it should be devoid of any algorithmic engineering and the political agenda
07:35behind the algorithms uh in the name of free speech to be played so so clearly he said that you
07:40know uh a free speech should be really free uh and without any political influence and political
07:45engineering but uh you know in the name of free speech the political engineering of the algorithms
07:50cannot be allowed all right pranay very very interesting conversation that you've had on the
07:55sidelines of this summit thanks so much for bringing us up to speed with all of that we'll
07:59get all those details and you can catch all those details again on our website as well at india today
