00:00This is easily the most polarizing breakfast spot in all of Japan.
00:04It's called Butter.
00:06They serve pancakes and instead of syrup,
00:09they give you an entire stick of butter with your buttermilk pancakes.
00:14I know, this restaurant has caused quite the divide online.
00:18Some people think it's too much, but that's what Japan is all about.
00:23Japan is a place where you come and you get extremes
00:27you really never thought of or would think of,
00:30but they end up being the most delicious things you've ever tried in your life.
00:33Or are they?
00:35This place called Butter is tucked away in the corner of Tokyo,
00:40and I've been here three times.
00:42Butter makes their own buttermilk pancakes
00:45along with the stick of butter that they give you.
00:47Everything here is about dairy.
00:49They have their own farm with their own cows
00:52that they get the butter and the milk from.
00:54So not only are they making the butter in-house,
00:57yes, the butter is made right here at the cafe.
01:00You can even just come here and buy butter if you want to
01:03because it's freshly made and it's made local from local cows in a local farm.
01:08They also use the buttermilk to make buttermilk pancakes,
01:12and they give you a free shot of buttermilk once you sit down.
01:16They give you the menu and there's all kinds of things on there,
01:19everything having to do with dairy.
01:20So there's toast and cheese and lattes.
01:24I got the kefir.
01:25The kefir is so good.
01:26I am a dairy lover.
01:28I'm somebody who truly believes that dairy is some of the healthiest stuff.
01:32So I also ordered a matcha buttermilk latte.
01:36Insane.
01:36So what everybody's ordering is these delicious pancakes.
01:40There are three buttermilk pancakes and a stick of butter, no syrup.
01:44There's absolutely no syrup served here.
01:47They give you that stick of butter for your pancakes in substitution of butter.
01:52They tell you that the butter is consumed mostly the entire stick,
01:57but if you can't consume the entire thing,
02:00then they will give you a freeze-dried bag so you can take it home.
02:03I say this with no hesitation.
02:04It's one of the best things I've ever had in my entire life.
02:07It just works.
02:08It doesn't seem like it's going to work, but it absolutely works.
02:12The buttermilk pancakes are sweet, so you really do not need syrup.
02:17They're so fluffy and light.
02:19Everyone thinks the butter's not melting, but it absolutely is melting.
02:23The butter does not taste like any old butter.
02:26That's the whole point.
02:27It tastes more like cream or...
02:31I don't know.
02:32It's hard.
02:32Don't imagine a butter stick in your head from the grocery store.
02:36Imagine freshly made butter.
02:38Like, I don't know.
02:39It's amazing, and I will keep saying that even though every time I say it,
02:43people go, gross, gross.
02:45It is insane.
02:46If you come to Tokyo, I would say you have to try it,
02:50and I do see Japanese locals coming here.
02:53It's not just a tourist trap.
02:54It actually is amazing and a must-visit.
02:57Put it on your must-visit list when you come here to Tokyo.
03:00I wanted to do a brief intermission and tell you guys about my GoFundMe.

03:06I love to raise the whole thing.

03:15The biggest challenge is how much it costs.
03:18It's like I wouldn't be able to do it on my own,

03:25Even if it's a $10 donation, that's $10 towards a taxi or $10 towards a visa or $10 towards a
03:34piece of gear or $10 toward a flight.
03:36Even if it's a $5 donation, that's $5 toward a flight that I have to get this year.

03:52The response to Butter when I posted it on TikTok was very polarizing.
03:57A lot of people said they just could not grasp having pancakes without syrup.
04:02Like they said, there's no way I can't do pancakes without syrup, even though I told them that these pancakes
04:08did not need it.
04:09All the comments were basically saying that it was gross and that they needed syrup with pancakes,
04:15and that it should be illegal to serve pancakes without syrup.
04:19So what I did was I took myself back to Butter and I smuggled a bottle of syrup in my
04:28purse.
04:29I was so scared to do this, but I really, really wanted to test it out because of all the
04:33comments.
04:34So I went back.
04:36Again, they do not serve any syrup here.
04:39The whole place is about this butter.
04:41And I don't know why so many people were so upset at the fact they didn't serve syrup because you
04:46can go to any pancake spot in Japan and they will give you syrup.
04:50But this place is about it.
04:51So anyways, I just like, let's do the experiment.
04:54I bought my own syrup.
04:55I hope nobody saw me.
04:56Maybe they saw me on the cameras.
04:57I don't know.
04:58But I was right.
05:00Okay, so this specific spot, the butter, I mean, the syrup was too much.
05:04The butter and syrup were fighting for the attention.
05:06Listen, if you're going to come here, it's about butter.
05:08If not, if you don't want butter, then don't come here.
05:11Go to any other pancake spot in Japan.
05:13You'll find plenty.
05:14But if you come here, you don't need syrup.
05:17It's about the butter, baby.
05:18And put in the comments, how many times have I said butter?
05:23Japan is just one of those places where you just see outrageous stuff and you're just like, does this really
05:29taste good?
05:30Like, for real?
05:31Or is this just gimmicky?
05:32And I can tell you from somebody who's been living and traveling Japan for 10 years, the stuff usually is
05:40delicious.
05:40Not always, but usually.
05:42Right down the street is another one of my favorite spots.
05:44It's Katsu Wagyu.
05:46If you're in the Ginza area, I would say definitely check this place out.
05:50They give you a little oven, or it's not an oven, like a little stove.
05:55They give you raw wagyu that has been fried, so they only fry the outside, but it's raw.
06:00They give you a bowl of rice.
06:02It's just so good.
06:03Really, really simplistic, delicious food.
06:06I would say it's one of my favorite spots that I eat here in Japan all the time.
06:12I'm going to give you guys two more recommendations of some of the most delicious things I've had here in
06:18Japan, traveling around the entire country.
06:20So, if you get yourself on a train, I 10 out of 10 recommend, if you come to Tokyo, take
06:27a very easy train ride from Tokyo and go to Fujikawa, Guchiko.
06:32It is a little town that is not that far from Tokyo where Mount Fuji is.
06:38When I tell you it is the most top, okay, top five most beautiful places I've been in my existence,
06:46Mount Fuji is striking and ethereal.
06:49I've cried three different times on my trip to Mount Fuji because I couldn't handle, like, how beautiful it is
06:56in the air.
06:57Everybody talks about the air, but anyways, they grow some of the greatest produce here in Fujikawa, Guchiko, and so
07:05the food is insane.
07:06Because the ground and the air is so clean and so healthy, the food here just hits different.
07:12So, if you come to Fujikawa, Guchiko, ask a taxi driver to take you to the lavender fields.
07:17The lavender fields, they sell all this lavender stuff and they sell lavender ice cream, you guys, that they grow
07:24right here.
07:25They're growing the lavender here and selling you all these different lavender products.
07:29Oh my gosh, you guys, tears.
07:32You guys, I'm not here, I'm not here, I'm not here, I'm not here.
07:35I'm somewhere in outer space, I'm somewhere in the ether between time and space.
07:44I'm not in life right now, I'm somewhere else, I'm somewhere else.
07:50Oh my gosh, you guys, you have to come to Mount Fuji.
07:54There's lavender gardens all over here, you guys, they're planting so many different types of produce and flowers.
08:01And with the lavender that they're growing right here, you can get your...
08:16After you ask your taxi driver to take you to the lavender fields, you can take a short walk to
08:21one of the cutest cafes in the entire world.
08:25It's called Brand New Day Coffee and Cafeteria.
08:29They have just like a bunch of, you know, pizza, sandwiches, but the thing here that is amazing is their
08:36lattes.
08:37So I heard they had an amazing matcha latte with an amazing view.
08:42I think I went at the perfect time because I got the window...
08:46Well, all the windows had the Mount Fuji seat, but you get yourself a matcha, you get yourself a latte,
08:52a coffee latte, whatever you want.
08:54And it's just so peaceful and you have this gorgeous view of Mount Fuji, which is so ethereal.
09:00I don't think I've ever seen anything so ethereal as Mount Fuji.
09:05And yeah, the food was quite basic.
09:07It was just, you know, finger food and lattes, but the view was insane.
09:12Mount Fuji is a must visit if you come to Japan.
09:15My time in Japan is coming to an end, but this will always be my favorite place on planet Earth.
09:21This is home, and I think everybody should come to Japan at least once.
09:26I know Japan gets very, what some people call, overhyped, but I do not agree with that at all.
09:34I think Japan deserves all of the hype it gets.
09:37I think it deserves more, actually.
09:39I am in love with this place, and it will always be a safe haven for me.
