00:00Ok, welcome back, last thing, guys, but you've come for a very good reason, right?
00:08To check out this, this is called the Airy A2, and it is, let me just read this out to
00:15you,
00:15an expressive polyphonic MIDI controller pushing the boundaries of today's most innovative sound design.
00:23And I can tell you, I've been introducing these guys now for quite a few years here at Vivotech,
00:29and it really is a very stunning piece of hardware and quite an evolution in terms of instruments.
00:36Here to tell you more, I'd like to welcome to the stage Romain from InBot.me.
00:44Hello everyone, my name is Edgar and Romain will be performing today.
00:49So, I'm CEO of InBot.me, we're a music tech company founded in 2018,
00:56and we started to create a new type of musical instrument to bring more natural gestures into electronic sounds.
01:06So, what you're going to see tonight is this product, this is the second generation actually of the Airy,
01:14which is a very versatile tablet where you can really play with musical gestures.
01:21Vibretto, glissando, you can hit it with drumsticks.
01:24It's very sensitive and accurate and really brings all the richness of the musical articulation to the electronic sounds.
01:33So, in this performance that you will see, where Romain will be playing notes on different layouts.
01:41So, a layout is like a representation of notes.
01:45You can have a keyboard like on standard piano, but you can also bring sliders like a DJ,
01:51and you can design endless combinations of elements, musical elements on this display.
01:59And one last thing to mention is, this display is not hard, it's actually semi-rigid, it's kind of soft.
02:05The reason why is that we wanted to bring a very soft control for the fingertips,
02:11so that you can really dig inside the material and we actually sense the pressure that you apply.
02:19And this is the whole inner working of this product, it's pressure sensitive.
02:22There is a matrix of 10,000 force sensors and 10,000 LEDs, so that you can really do those
02:31continuous gestures, glides.
02:34You can pitch bend notes in every direction and you can represent notes the way you want.
02:39So, this way you can really quickly alternate between a drum pad or a keyboard or a mixer or anything
02:46you want with a very interesting, strong visual cues
02:50and really express the musical ideas that you have through the gestures.
02:56So, yeah, no more talking for now. I hope you'll enjoy this performance and we can talk again for a
03:04quick Q&A at the end of the performance.
03:07Enjoy!

13:45différents sliders, et stage, of course, because it looks great and you can do so
13:51much as a one-man show.
13:55Just to say, that does really lend itself very nicely to play live as
13:58well, that's what's great about it. It's not something you pre-record and just
14:01you can play it live, which is really nice.
14:04So what happened during the show, Romain was actually performing using
14:08different layouts that you can quickly activate here, and each layout is a whole
14:14new set of instruments and functionalities. So this way you can really
14:19create control over one sound, but activate different instruments with a
14:30very direct access.
14:33We had another question over here somewhere? Yeah, please.
14:36So what's your background in terms of other instruments that you play, and how
14:41long did it take you to learn to perform on this new instrument in the way that
14:46you did? And what is the interface like in terms of programming the different
14:50instruments to your desires?
14:54That's three questions.
14:55Sorry.
14:56That's one question for you. So I can answer. So Romain used to perform with Octapad. I think it was
15:06like a bulky drum machine that you can hit with drumsticks.
15:10And I think in 2022, you saw an ad about this product on Instagram, and he bought it. And then
15:17it just replaced his whole workflow. So instead of having one drum pad and one keyboard, now he just has
15:24this one. And sorry, second question.
15:26Question. So it's taken him about two years to be able to do that?
15:30Pretty much. Okay. That's cool. You have another question? Was that about the interface? No?
15:37If you play other instruments that are not digital, and how do you program your version of this?
15:46So Romain is a percussionist by formation, drummer and percussionist. And the way you craft the different and program the
15:57different layouts is done through a software that we provide with the product. But it's a very simple drag and
16:04drop elements into, you know, what you see is what you get type of interface. So it's very fairly easy.
16:13Okay. All right. Okay. One more. Okay. We have one more and then we have to stop.
16:19Last one. Can you record your own sounds and bring them into the machine?
16:24Good question.
16:26So yeah, good question. It's a MIDI controller. So it means that you need to be connected to a sampler
16:34or a computer or a synthesizer. So no.
16:39Okay. Well, ladies and gentlemen, area two from Involveme and Romain. And remind me your name. And you both are
16:49your Romain? Okay.
16:50Romain Jovion is a professional artist. He performs with his products. Who are the main two artists you work with?
17:01With Yame. You know Yame? Bleak Bassi. A lot of different artists. Yeah.
17:08All I can say is no one does electropop as good as the French. And that is for sure. So
17:15brilliant. Thank you very much, guys. Really awesome. Awesome.
17:19Pleasure. Thank you.
17:19Thank you. Check out their website as well. And I'm sure we can find you also your music on Spotify
17:24perhaps? Instagram.
17:26Instagram. Okay. There you go. Check it out. All right. So that's the end of Friday. No, sorry. Thursday. Oh,
17:35my God. I'm really tired.
17:36All right. Just a quick message to say. Right. This evening we have something called Live Nation happening in the
17:47dome. So there's an evening happening in the dome. A special event. So please go over. Check it out. I
17:55think normally you have free to get in. Check it out.
18:01Tomorrow we will be continuing our adventure on the discovery stage starting bright and early at 10 o'clock. Much
18:09to see. Much to discover. See you all then. It's been a pleasure. I bid you all good evening.
