00:00As we move on in our Olympic journey after Paris 2024, Milano-Cortina 2026,
00:06we go across the ocean for Los Angeles 2028,
00:10and for this, I call back my friend Thierry Borat.
00:18I'm back, I'm back.
00:22I hope you're not tired of seeing me,
00:25but this is the dessert time, okay?
00:28This is the dessert time, and we're going to travel across the Atlantic
00:33to have a sneak peek of Los Angeles 2028.
00:37So, we're going to have a great discussion with Michel Schwartz,
00:42the Chief Communication Officer for the Organizing Committee of the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
00:50Michel, welcome in Paris.
00:53We have the fan club here.
00:55I do.
00:56You see?
00:56I have my Angelenos out there, so, you know.
01:01Wow.
01:01I bring a cheering section with me wherever I go.
01:04That's fantastic.
01:06Love you guys.
01:08Great.
01:09Michel, great to have you here at the Future of Sports.
01:13Before we talk about LA, just want to get to know about who you are,
01:17where you're coming from, what have you done, what's your background?
01:22Well, so, I am an Angeleno by choice.
01:25I grew up in New Jersey, and I spent most of my career in Washington, D.C., working for
01:32the federal government, working in the Senate, U.S. Department of Transportation, and then I
01:37moved to Los Angeles about six years ago because I wanted to be by the ocean and be able to
01:41surf
01:41almost every day, not quite every day, and spend some time working at LAX airport, and then had the
01:51incredible opportunity to join LA28.
01:53So, when did you start the Horizon Committee?
01:55I started with LA28 in November of 2021, so about 18 months ago.
02:03So, how is it to surf in LA?
02:05Tell us.
02:06Is this a dream spot?
02:08Surfing in LA is incredible, and we're so excited that surfing is going to be part of our games in
02:15the
02:15summer of 2028, as, of course, it will be in Paris as well.
02:19And so, everybody in the world will get to see what it means to surf in Southern California.
02:26Talking about LA, I think we have a nice video to share with you guys.
02:36We are citizens of the world.
02:39A world we call LA.
02:42We speak hundreds of languages.
02:44So many nations, dialects, and different perspectives represented.
02:48LA is so open, and embraces so many different types of people.
02:52We bring our truths, then turn them into something new.
02:56We're here for the same reasons as those who came before us, to create the world we want to see.
03:02We're more than a city.
03:04We're a mindset, a movement.
03:06It's freedom.
03:07You can be the person you want in Los Angeles.
03:24We already play on the world stage.
03:27In 2028, when we welcome the games, we'll show the world the real LA.
03:55Pretty cool.
03:57Big applause for that video
03:59The fan club
04:00Come on
04:03So we're going to have to wait a little bit
04:06Five years to live
04:07The dream in LA
04:08But it all starts with a vision
04:11So I'm curious to understand
04:13Why did LA
04:15Wanted to host the game
04:17And to achieve what
04:20Yeah so
04:21Our mission is
04:23Pretty simple and straightforward
04:25Which is really about putting on
04:27Incredible games for everyone
04:29For you know the athletes
04:31The fans, spectators
04:33Our people, our community
04:35But really
04:37The reason why we want
04:39To have the games in Los Angeles
04:41Is because we know we can do so much more
04:43We know that if all we do
04:45Is put on an incredible games
04:47We'll really have missed the opportunity
04:49To you know seize that moment
04:51To leave a legacy
04:52To really create what's next
04:55And to show the world what we can be
04:57Los Angeles is a place
04:58Of such incredible diversity
05:00You know there are
05:01So many different ethnicities
05:04Where the second largest population
05:06In the world
05:07Of that nationality
05:09Is in Los Angeles
05:10Outside of their home country
05:12So really you know
05:13You have everything in Los Angeles
05:15Anything that you want
05:17You can find there
05:18And we know that we have the opportunity
05:19To show our creativity
05:21To show our diversity
05:22To the world
05:23And really to leave
05:24That lasting legacy
05:25In Los Angeles
05:26Before, during, and after the games
05:29Diversity is something
05:30That is the DNA of LA
05:34How does it translate
05:35In what you have done so far
05:37Within the logo for example
05:39The logo is a
05:40You don't hear me
05:42Yes
05:42That's awful
05:43Yeah so
05:44I'm going to get closer to you
05:44I know
05:45Let's get closer to the cover
05:48I was going to say
05:50How that diversity is translating
05:52We've seen the logo
05:53Which is a good example of that
05:55Yes absolutely
05:56So you know
05:57At the end of the video
05:57You can see our emblem
05:59Where the L
06:01The 2 and the 8
06:02Are static
06:03And we have now
06:04We started
06:05We launched with 28 different A's
06:07We're now up well over 30 A's
06:10And we continue to create
06:11Those different A's
06:12And it's not us creating
06:14Those A's only
06:15It is athletes
06:16It's artists
06:17It's musicians
06:18It's community leaders
06:21And so
06:22All of these A's
06:24Are you know
06:25Really showing that diversity
06:26Because
06:26The reason that we decided
06:28To have this emblem
06:30This way
06:30Is because we all know
06:32That there is no one way
06:33To represent LA
06:35There can be no one thing
06:37That captures all of LA
06:38And that is the beauty of LA
06:40And so our emblem
06:42Is really a manifestation of that
06:44Very nice
06:45How was it received
06:47By the community
06:48Did they enjoy the logo
06:50Did they want it
06:51To create their own
06:52Yeah
06:53They're
06:54I mean
06:54We've gotten a great reception
06:56To it
06:56And I think
06:57You know
06:57Anytime we roll out new ones
06:59People are really excited
07:00I think you know
07:01People really want
07:02Like the merch
07:03With the different logos
07:04And especially those
07:05That are created
07:06By you know
07:06The athletes that they love
07:07And for the sports
07:08That they love
07:10And yeah
07:11I think that there are
07:12Just kind of endless
07:12Possibilities with it
07:14And so we'll continue
07:15To see lots more
07:16And with different people
07:18Creating them
07:19One thing that we
07:20Were able to launch
07:21Last year
07:23Was with Delta
07:24They were the first
07:24Of our partners
07:25To create their own A
07:27That's integrated
07:29Into that logo as well
07:30And so that's something
07:32That they're using
07:32And we know
07:33We'll have more partners
07:34That do that as well
07:35Which is really exciting
07:37And something that's
07:38Really never happened before
07:39Excellent
07:40You said that
07:42I mean
07:42It's much more than
07:43These two weeks of competition
07:44Or a month of competition
07:46We had the Paralympics too
07:47You know
07:48You wanted to create
07:49An impact
07:49For the community
07:50Tell us a bit more
07:51About that impact
07:52That you wanted to create
07:53Exactly
07:54Yeah so
07:55You know
07:56For us
07:56And we
07:57We want to have that impact
07:58You know
07:59We're very impatient
08:01You know
08:02I think that's
08:02An American trade
08:04And definitely
08:04A Los Angeles trade
08:05You know
08:06That we don't want to wait
08:07We want things now
08:08And so part of it is
08:09You know
08:10How can we have an impact
08:11Even before the games
08:12During the games
08:14And then after it as well
08:15And you know
08:17The areas that
08:18We're really focused on
08:19Are youth sports
08:21So creating opportunities
08:22For kids to play sports
08:25You know
08:25Regardless of what
08:26Their background is
08:27We're very focused on
08:30Creating equal access
08:33To a healthy environment
08:34So making sure that
08:36We have you know
08:37Environmental health
08:38Is foremost in mind
08:40That we're you know
08:41Reducing our emissions
08:42That we're you know
08:44Creating circular economy
08:46And then also really
08:48Making sure that
08:49There's shared economic
08:51Benefit of the games
08:52We know that you know
08:53We'll be spending money
08:55We know a lot of you know
08:56Federations will be coming
08:58And spending money
08:58A lot of others
08:59We want to make sure that
09:01You know
09:01Local Angelenos
09:03Are being able to benefit
09:05From that
09:06And that we're helping
09:06To build up that local economy
09:10Inspiring young to play sports
09:12Is something that I think
09:14Is tremendously important
09:16These days
09:16Do you have already
09:18Fixed a target number
09:20That you want to reach?
09:21I want to have like
09:22I don't know
09:22A million of kids
09:24Playing by 2028
09:26What is your objective?
09:27In fact it is
09:28A million kids
09:29Playing by 2028
09:31Yes so we have
09:33We have a program
09:34That we've already launched
09:36With the Los Angeles
09:39City Department of Recreation
09:40And Parks
09:41Called Play LA
09:42And it has
09:44Sports for kids
09:46That they're able to enroll
09:47In sports programs
09:48For between zero and ten dollars
09:51Because you know
09:53We know that
09:54Price can often be a barrier
09:55And these are high quality programs
09:57You know normally would cost
09:59Maybe 150
10:00Maybe 200
10:01Maybe 300 dollars
10:02To enroll in this programming
10:04And now kids are able
10:05To do that for free
10:06And I'd say
10:07We're really well on track
10:09To hit those numbers
10:11Last year
10:12Because we were a little
10:12Delayed in getting started
10:14Because of COVID
10:15So last year
10:16Was the first
10:16Full year of the program
10:18And we had
10:1990,000 kids
10:20Who enrolled
10:22This year
10:23We're not quite done
10:24It goes by school year
10:25So we you know
10:27We're not quite done yet
10:29We have a few more weeks to go
10:30But just a couple weeks ago
10:32It was shared with me
10:33This year's numbers
10:34Were 174,000 kids
10:37So almost double
10:39And that was 20%
10:40Ahead of projections
10:41For the year
10:42So I think that we're
10:43Well on track
10:44To have that million number
10:45I like when we have
10:47Clear objectives
10:48Clear goals
10:48We measure
10:49We track
10:50It's not always like that
10:52In the Olympic world
10:54So is that
10:54American part
10:56That make it
10:56More business driven
10:58I think that
10:59That could be
11:00A part of it
11:01You know
11:01We definitely
11:02I think
11:03You know
11:03They say that
11:04What you
11:05What you measure
11:06Is what you care about
11:07Right
11:08Is what you value
11:09And so
11:09We want to make sure
11:10And if we're not measuring
11:11You know
11:11How can we really show
11:12What that impact is
11:13But for us
11:15It's really about
11:16More than that number
11:17And it's
11:18Where are those kids
11:19Making sure
11:21That it's
11:21You know
11:21Throughout
11:23The whole
11:24You know
11:24City of Los Angeles
11:25In every neighborhood
11:27In neighborhoods
11:28Where kids
11:29Don't necessarily
11:30Always have access
11:31To playing
11:31So you know
11:32We're going to be tracking
11:33Not just
11:34Getting to that million
11:36But also really
11:37You know
11:37Where are the kids
11:39Who are playing
11:39Are they continuing
11:41You know
11:41Season after season
11:42To play
11:43And those kinds of things
11:45So right now
11:45We're really developing
11:46What are going to be
11:48Those key performance indicators
11:50That we are going to look to
11:52To know
11:53Are we really being successful
11:54I'm assuming
11:56You're not working alone
11:57You
11:57I'm assuming
11:59You're inviting
12:00Your partners
12:00To play a role in this
12:02Or the ones
12:02That you have on board
12:03So far
12:04How is that collaboration
12:05Working
12:06Yeah absolutely
12:07And I think
12:08You know
12:08Across the board
12:09We know that
12:11If we really want to have
12:12The biggest possible impact
12:14We can't do anything alone
12:15You know
12:16We go away in 2028
12:17The way that we do things
12:19In the United States
12:20Is a little different
12:20From how it's done
12:21In some other places
12:22We're you know
12:23A private
12:24Non-profit organization
12:25We're not part of
12:26Any government
12:27Entity
12:28And so
12:29We close our doors
12:30In 2028
12:31And so
12:32If we're not partnering
12:33Then all of that good
12:35Goes away
12:36So our partners
12:38You know
12:38I'm going to view it
12:39Very broadly
12:40So certainly
12:41With our corporate sponsors
12:43And you know
12:44Our domestic partners
12:45Are you know
12:46Really focused on
12:48You know
12:49They want to be involved
12:50In creating lasting impact
12:53Whether that's through
12:54Sustainable practices
12:55Whether that's through
12:56You know
12:56Engagement in the community
12:57So we're engaging them there
12:59And then we have
13:01You know
13:01Community partners
13:02So local
13:03Non-governmental organizations
13:05We have some of our
13:07Government partners
13:07Who really care about
13:08The same things
13:09That you know
13:09We do
13:10And so
13:11We're working together
13:12So I think that
13:13You know
13:13Every single thing
13:14That we do
13:15Will be a partnership
13:16And then
13:17You know
13:18One example
13:18That we have already
13:19Is that
13:20You know
13:21Nike
13:22Which is one of our
13:23Important partners
13:24We've worked with them
13:26To create
13:26What we call
13:27The gift of sport
13:28Where we're able to
13:30Gift Nike products
13:32To you know
13:34Kids in the community
13:35So that they're able
13:36They have the equipment
13:37That they need
13:38To play sports
13:38And we're working with
13:40Some local organizations
13:41Like you know
13:43Boys and girls clubs
13:44And others
13:45To be able to get
13:46That equipment to kids
13:47So that they can
13:48Actually have what
13:49They need to go out
13:50And play sports
13:50So I'm assuming
13:51These kids are exposed
13:52To an experiential program
13:55So they can play
13:56They can test sports
13:58Do they continue
13:59After being exposed
14:00To that program
14:01Do you know
14:02If they continue
14:02To play the sports
14:03Well again
14:05I mean
14:05And it's more than exposure
14:06Because these are
14:07You know
14:07Programs that will continue
14:08For you know
14:10Several months
14:11And then they can sign up again
14:12And one of the things
14:14That I love too
14:14Is so some of them
14:15Might continue in the same sport
14:16But a big part of it
14:18For us is exposure
14:19To Olympic
14:21And Paralympic sports
14:23And so getting that exposure
14:24To sports that kids
14:25Might not otherwise
14:26Be exposed to
14:27So because of this investment
14:29That we're making
14:30For the first time
14:31The Los Angeles
14:32City Department of Recreation
14:33And Parks
14:34Is offering adaptive sports
14:35So kids are getting
14:36Exposed to that
14:37And so kids are able
14:39To play regardless
14:40Of whether they might
14:41Have a physical disability
14:42But then also
14:43You know
14:44Being exposed
14:44To the Olympic sports
14:46You know
14:47Most kids
14:47They know about
14:48They know about
14:49American football
14:50They know soccer
14:51They know basketball
14:52But really getting them
14:54Exposure to these other sports
14:55There was one
14:57One young boy
14:58Who he tried out
15:00A whole bunch
15:01Of different sports
15:02And you know
15:03Through the Play-L.A. program
15:05And the one that he
15:06Ended up falling in love
15:07With was judo
15:08And if it hadn't been
15:10For this program
15:11He never would have
15:11Been exposed to judo
15:13And so that's the sport
15:14That he ended up
15:15Sticking with
15:15And so those are
15:16The stories that we love
15:17Where kids get to see
15:18Something that they
15:19Never would have seen
15:20Otherwise
15:21And that's what
15:22Keeps them playing sports
15:23Nice
15:24What is the role
15:25Of the athletes?
15:26Are they involved
15:27As role models
15:29Or influencers?
15:31Yeah so we're
15:32Incredibly proud
15:34Of the number of athletes
15:35That we have
15:36Who are working
15:37On our team
15:38At LA28
15:39So we put in place
15:41An athlete fellows
15:42Program
15:43Where athletes
15:44Who have
15:45Olympians and
15:46Paralympians
15:46Who have retired
15:47From competing
15:49Will come
15:50And they do
15:51Two six month
15:51Rotations
15:52Working on our team
15:54You know
15:55Many of them
15:56They've spent
15:56Their entire lives
15:57Training for sport
15:58So they might not
15:59Have gone to university
16:01They might not have
16:02Ever had a job before
16:03And so they come
16:05But they bring
16:05So many soft skills
16:07You know
16:08The perseverance
16:09That they have
16:10The adaptability
16:11That they have
16:12And so
16:13You know
16:13And the willingness
16:14To learn
16:15And so they're
16:16Really involved
16:17In everything
16:18That we do
16:19We've already
16:20Hired on full time
16:22I think
16:22At least seven
16:24But and counting
16:25Of the athlete fellows
16:26Because they are
16:27Such a credible
16:28Editions
16:28And so when we're
16:30Out in the community
16:31When we're going
16:31To you know
16:32Events
16:34Engaging kids
16:35Youth sports
16:36We always have
16:37Our athlete fellows
16:38With us
16:39And they're out there
16:40You know
16:40Playing with the kids
16:41In addition to
16:42Our athlete commission
16:43Members
16:44You know
16:45They come out
16:46And engage as well
16:47So
16:47And there's nothing
16:49Like you know
16:50Telling a kid
16:51Like hey
16:51You see that person
16:52Over there
16:53You know
16:53They're an Olympian
16:54And you know
16:54Having a kid
16:55Being able to
16:56Put on a medal
16:57That really inspires them
17:00With Paris 2024
17:03You know
17:03The vision is to
17:04Put more sport
17:05In people's life
17:07And in fact
17:08They are doing
17:08A big job
17:09In influencing
17:10The ecosystem
17:11To do more
17:13To bring that sport
17:14In people's life
17:15Are you
17:16I mean
17:17I know the
17:18The way of working
17:19The way of
17:20The OCCOB
17:20Constitution
17:21Is different here
17:22But are you trying
17:23Also to influence
17:24Others to do
17:25The same thing
17:25Towards kids
17:26Yeah
17:27So I mean
17:28I think that
17:28You know
17:28We are certainly
17:30Starting out
17:31Hyper focused
17:32On Los Angeles
17:33It's really important
17:34To us
17:35And Los Angeles
17:36Is pretty big
17:36To begin with
17:37The city of Los Angeles
17:39Is 4 million people
17:40The county of Los Angeles
17:41Is 10 million people
17:42So we're talking about
17:44You know
17:44A lot of people already
17:45And that great diversity
17:47And income disparities
17:49And all of that
17:50So we're really starting
17:52With Los Angeles
17:52But I think that
17:53You know
17:54Certainly we feel like
17:55That we can be a model
17:56For others
17:57In what we're doing
17:58And that some of the
18:00Best practices
18:01That are developed
18:02Are things that could
18:03Be translated elsewhere
18:04Inspiration
18:05That's great
18:06Yes
18:06We're five years out
18:08What is the
18:09I mean
18:10How many you are
18:10At the organizing committee
18:11Today
18:12Today
18:13Today we have about
18:14140
18:15150 people
18:16By the time
18:18We put on the games
18:19We will probably
18:21Have about
18:214,500 staff
18:23And another
18:24100,000
18:25Volunteers
18:26And consultants
18:27And that doesn't
18:28Even take into account
18:29All of the people
18:30Who you know
18:31Work for our
18:31Various delivery partners
18:33So it will be
18:34A massive undertaking
18:36And we will grow
18:38Exponentially
18:38And what are the
18:40Major things
18:41You're working on
18:41These days
18:42At the OCOB
18:43What is the focus
18:43Right now
18:44Yeah so
18:45You know
18:46This year
18:46Is the year
18:47That our
18:48Olympic sport
18:49Program
18:49Will get
18:50Finalized
18:51And so
18:52When is the
18:52Decision
18:53Will be taken
18:53In Mumbai
18:55And at the
18:57IOC session
18:57In October
18:58And so
18:59That's something
19:00That you know
19:01There's a lot
19:01Of work going into
19:02And that certainly
19:03You know
19:04So much else
19:05Flows from that
19:06Because once we
19:07Have the sport
19:08Program
19:08Then we can
19:09Finalize our
19:09Venues
19:10And once we
19:11Finalize the
19:11Venues
19:12Then you know
19:12That feeds into
19:13Our transportation
19:14Plan and our
19:15Security plan
19:15And everything else
19:16So right now
19:17You have nine
19:18Candidates
19:18Is that correct
19:19Shortlist
19:20We have about
19:21You know
19:21Eight or nine
19:22Depending on how
19:23You count
19:23That are shortlisted
19:24And we have
19:25The opportunity
19:26But not the
19:27Obligation to
19:27Propose new sports
19:28Okay
19:29And so you
19:30May pick one
19:31Or two
19:32You don't know
19:32Or zero
19:33Or zero
19:34Okay
19:35Pressure is on
19:36Yes
19:37Okay so that's
19:38The big focus
19:39For now
19:39And then
19:41You're going to
19:41Turn into like
19:42A Paris observation
19:43Mode I guess
19:45Yes we will
19:46Certainly have a team
19:47That comes and
19:48Observes in Paris
19:49Next summer
19:50And also you know
19:51I mean we
19:52Literally you know
19:54Get handed
19:55The Olympic flag
19:56At the end of
19:57The Olympic games
19:58We own that
19:59Handover ceremony
20:00In the closing
20:01Ceremonies of the
20:02Paris 2024 games
20:03And then similarly
20:05With the closing
20:06Ceremony of the
20:07Paralympic games
20:08And so really
20:09We know that
20:10You know
20:10Once that happens
20:12All eyes turn to
20:13Los Angeles
20:13And so we are
20:15Going to be
20:16Seizing that moment
20:17And you know
20:17It's not just about
20:19Getting to see
20:20What's happening
20:20In Paris
20:21Learn from them
20:22But it's also
20:23How do we take
20:24That moment
20:24To really start
20:26Driving the excitement
20:27In Los Angeles
20:28In the United States
20:30And around the world
20:31For what's coming next
20:32So we know that
20:34We will have
20:35Activations back
20:36In Los Angeles
20:37At that same time
20:38So that we can
20:39Really drive that
20:40Excitement
20:41If you look at
20:42Paris
20:42The plan
20:43What do you think
20:45Is the most
20:46Interesting
20:47Exciting to you
20:49Yeah I mean
20:50I think that
20:50There are things
20:51You know
20:51Some of the things
20:52That are exciting
20:53Are the things
20:54That make Paris unique
20:55And the way that
20:55We're building on
20:56What makes us unique
20:57In Los Angeles
20:59You know
20:59We couldn't have
21:00Athletes come in
21:01On boats
21:02In the opening ceremony
21:03That you know
21:04They would be
21:05C6 in the waves
21:07To do that
21:08So you know
21:09Surfing
21:10Yeah they all
21:11Could surf in
21:12But you know
21:13So I think
21:14You know
21:14Those sorts of things
21:15Are very exciting
21:16To see
21:16But also you know
21:18For me
21:18I know
21:19You know
21:20Seeing the kind of
21:21Impact that they're having
21:22You know
21:23Part of my portfolio
21:24Is also on sustainability
21:26So you know
21:27We're very interested
21:28In seeing the kinds
21:29Of things that Paris
21:30Is doing on that front
21:32They're being very innovative
21:33And we know
21:34That there are going
21:35To be a number
21:36Of areas
21:36We have a really
21:37Great working relationship
21:38With them
21:39Where you know
21:41They might not get
21:41All the way across
21:42The finish line
21:43On some of the things
21:44They want to accomplish
21:45And then they can really
21:46You know
21:46Pass that baton to us
21:48Or pass that torch to us
21:49And that we can take that
21:51You know
21:51And get that
21:52Even further along
21:54And we're even
21:55You know
21:55Already
21:56Brisbane
21:57They're already coming to us
21:58And asking us questions
21:59So you know
22:00Just in the same way
22:01That we're learning from Paris
22:02We know we'll be paying it forward
22:04As well
22:04Each OCOG
22:06Is raising the bar
22:07On many things
22:08Including
22:08Unsustainability
22:10Is this something
22:11That you're seeing
22:12As a potential risk
22:13I mean Paris
22:14Is very
22:15Very aggressive
22:15They have
22:16A very
22:17Demanding vision
22:19About environment
22:20Is that something
22:22You see risky
22:22For LA
22:23Or you're comfortable
22:24So I think
22:25That it's an area
22:26Where
22:26And again
22:27Where we're going
22:28To do what makes sense
22:29For Los Angeles
22:30And we are going to
22:32Really be focusing on
22:33You know
22:34How can we
22:35Help
22:35Los Angeles
22:36How can we help
22:37You know
22:38Accelerate
22:39Transformative technologies
22:40That can
22:42You know
22:42Bring things forward
22:43And so really
22:44Being true to who we are
22:45We start out
22:47In a really great place
22:48On sustainability
22:49Because
22:49Our games plan
22:51Involves
22:52Building
22:52No new
22:53Permanent venues
22:54We will be the first
22:55Games ever
22:56To do that
22:56To be
22:57All existing venues
22:59And temporary venues
23:00And we're really proud
23:01Of that
23:02And that radical reuse
23:04Of those venues
23:04Is important
23:06For a lot of reasons
23:07But one of them
23:08Is for sustainability
23:08We like to say
23:10That the most sustainable venue
23:11Is the one
23:11That you don't have to build
23:13And so
23:14You know
23:14That's something
23:15That really
23:16Sits at the heart
23:17Of everything we're doing
23:18And that idea
23:18Of radical reuse
23:20I think you'll see it
23:21In a bunch of other areas
23:22As well
23:24What
23:24When you think about
23:26Challenges
23:26And opportunity
23:28What is the biggest
23:29Challenge you foresee
23:30And what is the main opportunity
23:33So this may be
23:34Because my background
23:36Is in transportation
23:38I think that
23:39That's an area
23:40You know
23:41We've got some
23:42Students out here today
23:43Who are from Los Angeles
23:44And you know
23:46And they are
23:49And we were talking earlier
23:51About transportation
23:52You know
23:52It's definitely
23:53It's top of mind
23:54For everyone
23:55It's the question
23:56That people ask about
23:57Most frequently
23:58Because Los Angeles
24:00You know
24:01Is known
24:01For maybe having some
24:02You know
24:03Some congestion
24:04And some traffic
24:05And so
24:06You know
24:07Getting the athletes
24:08Where they need to be
24:09Getting the spectators
24:11And workforce
24:11Where they need to be
24:12And keeping Los Angeles
24:14Moving at the same time
24:15It's a huge challenge
24:16But it's really
24:17An incredible opportunity
24:18We're already working
24:20Very closely
24:21With all of the local
24:22Transportation agencies
24:23As well as
24:24You know
24:24With the federal government
24:25To identify
24:26Where are those opportunities
24:27How we can really
24:28Make lasting change
24:30In transportation
24:31In Los Angeles
24:33And you know
24:34And even
24:34Our idea that
24:35No spectators
24:37Or workers
24:38Are going to be
24:39Driving to the venues
24:40Or taking taxis
24:41To the venues
24:42You know
24:42That's something
24:43That's pretty
24:44Revolutionary
24:45In Los Angeles
24:46Transformation
24:47Transformational
24:48And so I think
24:49You know
24:50There's
24:50It's going to take
24:52A lot of work
24:53And a huge amount
24:54Of coordination
24:54But if we
24:56If we can help
24:57Transform people
24:59In Los Angeles
25:00And the next time
25:02That they're going
25:02To an event
25:03At one of the
25:05You know
25:05At the Los Angeles
25:06Memorial Coliseum
25:07At SoFi Stadium
25:08That they actually think
25:09Like oh
25:10I can take public
25:11Transportation
25:11To get there
25:12That's an incredible
25:14Legacy
25:14That's the beauty
25:15Of being the last one
25:16I can go extra time
25:19I didn't pay attention
25:20To the timing
25:21One last question
25:23Maybe
25:23It's
25:24Your first Olympics
25:26It is
25:27What does it mean
25:28For you
25:28To be part of
25:29That adventure
25:31You know
25:32It's such an
25:33Incredible opportunity
25:34Kind of going back
25:35To the previous question
25:36Where
25:37You know
25:38We will be
25:38The largest
25:39Peacetime gathering
25:40In the history
25:41Of the world
25:41And that just
25:42Kind of gives me
25:43Chills every time
25:43I think about it
25:44And I think about
25:45How we can really
25:46Be a showcase
25:48For Los Angeles
25:49For our incredible
25:50Diversity and creativity
25:52And the ability
25:53To you know
25:54Do some lasting
25:56Good for our region
25:58It's just going
25:59To be incredible
25:59And you know
26:00Look
26:00It is my first Games
26:02And I love sports
26:03And so I'm really
26:04Excited for the sport
26:05And I know that
26:06You know
26:06All of the things
26:07That we do
26:07The most important
26:08Thing
26:09It will be at
26:10Games time
26:10That we just
26:11Put on an
26:11Incredible show
26:13Fantastic
26:13Maybe we can
26:15Catch up in one year
26:16To see where
26:17You are in the progress
26:18And to continue
26:19To tell that story
26:20Absolutely
26:20I would love that
26:22Fantastic
26:22Michel thank you
26:23Very much for coming
26:24To Paris
26:25At the future of sport
26:26A big round of applause
26:27The fan team
26:28A big up
26:31Thank you very much
26:32Thank you
26:32I wish you all the best
26:34Cheers
