00:00All right, now we have a second solution or initiative to improve educational tools.
00:09These guys are called Audemic, and here to tell us more is Joshua.
00:15Welcome back.
00:20Hi everyone, I'm Joshua, I'm the CEO of Audemic.
00:24I'm super excited today to tell you about our mission to make knowledge more accessible.
00:3331% of World Bank reports are never downloaded.
00:38There are 6 million research papers published every single year, but on average they're read less than 10 times.
00:44Why? Well, if anyone's read any here, it's because they're kind of boring to read, you know?
00:49We've got millions and millions of PDFs that might actually have the solutions to the problems that we're all looking
00:55to solve, but no one's reading them.
00:57At Audemic, over the last 12 months, what we've built is an application that can take research papers and these
01:05difficult-to-read documents.
01:07We can summarize them, extract the information, listen to them via audio, in different languages, and then you can take
01:14information and insights from that knowledge.
01:16But what we realized after 12 months, after having 7,000 users focused specifically on PhDs and researchers within universities
01:25and institutions, was that there were 10% of people outside of academia that wanted to read this information.
01:31And it makes sense. There are a billion knowledge workers worldwide, and with Generative AI, the only way to stay
01:37relevant in this world right now is to find different types of knowledge and connect the dots in the only
01:43way that humans can.
01:44So what we've decided to build, and what we're releasing and launching this week, and giving you a first look
01:51at here at Viva Tech, is our application that can show you reports and research that's relevant to you, and
01:59provide you with summaries based on your role and based on your interests that you can easily listen to and
02:05understand the world around us.
02:06So today I'm going to show you a small video, a short video that will show you the first look
02:12and first glimpse of that application. Thank you.
02:45Thank you.
03:12If this resonates with you, and I believe it does because you came here today to see me instead of
03:16Elon Musk, I'm sure, please come and find us. We're at D26 over there. We'd love to speak to people
03:24who are interested in using the application. We're looking for investment, potential recruits that want to come and join our
03:30mission to make knowledge accessible. So thank you.
03:35All right. Good. So any questions for our friend here from Modenimik about what you saw? No? Yes?
03:50I did a good job then. It was incredibly clear.
03:52It was so incredibly clear. Okay. So you're the founder of the company?
03:58Yeah, that's right.
03:59Okay, so what inspired you to start this thing?
04:02Yeah, so what inspired me was a couple of years back, actually, there was a popular report that was in
04:08the news in the UK and from the UK. And I was hearing a lot of different opinions about this
04:13report, but I wanted to read it for myself. So I went and found the report, it was 300 pages
04:18long. And I realized, okay, I'm really interested in this, but I don't have the time to read that.
04:23And thinking more about it, you know, if people can engage with that type of deep material in an easy
04:29way in less than 10 minutes, if the average person can understand that, then you know, in general, I think
04:34we'd have a better society.
04:35So that's what really inspired us to start building the app.
04:39And how long has the company been going for now?
04:41We've been going now for 12 months, building that original app. And now we're building this new app to hopefully
04:47take research outside of academia.
04:49Okay, so you're still in the development and fundraising stage?
04:53Yeah, that's correct. So we're currently fundraising. So looking for angel investors, really bold angel investors that understand the mission
05:00that we're trying to solve, and can really help us on that journey.
05:04Okay, and you guys are from the UK, right?
05:07Yeah, so I'm from the UK, and we're registered in the UK. We've also got some team members and co
05:12-founders out in Spain. And we're international in that sense. So a very international team.
05:18Okay. All right. Oh, we have a question. I'll take the mic. Yeah, please.
05:29So every single person finds something very different that is valuable to them from, you know, a source. How does
05:36what you guys do essentially cater that to each individual?
05:40Can you speak really into the mic so we can hear you? That's it. Yeah, sure.
05:43Thank you. That's it. It's like opera singing.
05:46What I was saying is that every single person finds something very different in which that is important to them
05:52from a source. How does your whatever you guys do cater to each individual's what they essentially find important from
06:00that piece?
06:02Thank you. Yeah.
06:06Thank you for the question. So there's two points to that. In recommending those potential sources that might be interesting
06:12to that individual. But furthermore, you're right. Someone can read the exact same source, but if you're looking for different
06:18information.
06:19And going forward, going forward, we haven't built this yet. But what we want to do is take the data
06:24of our users, their profile, what they're focused on, and tailor the summary towards them.
06:30So let's say you're reading a particular report. If you're a consultant in the US focused on energy, you might
06:38read or might be looking for different things in that paper versus a journalist in South America.
06:43And we can really tailor that summary to you to give you those insights. And then from there, we hope
06:48that you can connect that with other information that we give you and you can connect the dots in that
06:54sense. Thank you.
06:55Yeah, question. Oh, we have two. Okay. No, that's my job. Get back on stage.
07:05Just a quick question. I was wondering, what's your business model?
07:09What's your business model?
07:12Yeah. Yeah. How do you make money? Right? Is that the thing?
07:16Yeah. So with the new application, we're B2C and product led, and we're charging $219 annually for access to the
07:24application.
07:25But also making it really easy to invoice employers to take advantage of potential L&D budgets that they have
07:33as well.
07:34All right. Listen, we're out of time. Thank you very much.
07:37Okay. Thank you, everyone. Please visit us.
07:38Okay. So Joshua from Odemic. Thank you. All right. No problem. Okay.
07:44Okay.
