00:00:30If you'd like to hear people share their big ideas in a concise, compelling, short way, you are in the
00:00:38right place.
00:00:38Because let me tell you, ladies and gentlemen, for the next, well, today, tomorrow, and the next day, and one
00:00:44more day as well,
00:00:46this is the area where it's all about those big ideas, all from literally ideas, concepts, insights, perspectives, stories,
00:00:56literally from around the globe on this stage, sharing it with you, the Viva Tech audience, together, naturally, also with
00:01:05jury members as well.
00:01:07So, again, whatever you're doing today, well, whatever you're doing throughout the week, lots of things to see, lots of
00:01:14distractions, lots of people to meet, I'm sure.
00:01:17However, there is always a place here at the Pitch Studio for you.
00:01:23And again, also, another thing, it's probably the only place within the whole area of Viva Tech that you have
00:01:30a seat, right?
00:01:30Yes, it is.
00:01:31And again, I look out at you, I'm looking behind you, and I can see this beautiful alleyway, almost like
00:01:38the Champs-Elysees of the Pitch Studio.
00:01:41We could call it that, yes, the Champs-Elysees, this is the Arc de Triomphe, as it were, but here
00:01:46at the Arc, lots of ideas and lots of great insights as well.
00:01:51We'll kick off, first of all, with our very first session of the day, and we move over straight over
00:01:58to Ireland, looking at sports tech,
00:02:03looking at startups, ideas, concepts, all within the world of sport.
00:02:08And we're going to look at, naturally, at Enterprise Ireland, a government agency really responsible for the development of Irish
00:02:16business,
00:02:17Irish enterprises in world markets.
00:02:20It's an opportunity for them, naturally, right here to showcase those ideas, but maybe more importantly, to have conversations,
00:02:29conversations with you, you're curious, you'd like to know more, you may be an investor,
00:02:34you maybe know somebody who would be a perfect match as well, or you'd just like a chat to see
00:02:39perhaps where you can take this collaboration forward as well.
00:02:43So I'm intrigued, as much as you are, really, to hear how this session is going to unfold,
00:02:49and also really understand how these startups, how they're moving forward, and how they're ticking as well.
00:02:56I'm going to stop right now and introduce somebody who's going to tell you a little bit more about really
00:03:02why we're here,
00:03:04and really what Enterprise Ireland is doing.
00:03:06So please welcome to the Sage Ireland's Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mr. Simon Covenant.
00:03:20Good morning, everybody.
00:03:23And, well, we've got a big crowd for this session, which is, I think, a good indication of interest.
00:03:29And thank you to the judging panel as well, who I'm sure will be harsh but fair,
00:03:35in terms of looking at the potential of these companies and the products that they're developing.
00:03:47But first of all, can I just say how pleased I am as a government minister to be here at
00:03:53Viva Tech,
00:03:54which is the largest tech and startup conference in Europe this year.
00:04:00There will be about 100,000 people who will come through these halls looking at technologies of the future.
00:04:06And I can assure you that Ireland and Irish companies will be at the centre of all of that.
00:04:11In many ways, the Irish economy is now driven by technology.
00:04:15In fact, Irish society is driven by technology and innovation.
00:04:19And that's not just coming from the large tech-based multinationals that are based in Ireland,
00:04:24but it's very much also now being driven by indigenous growth from Irish companies providing technology-based solutions
00:04:32across so many different areas from fintech to medtech to environmental and climate solutions
00:04:38to sports and sports management to health care to nutrition to food to water management.
00:04:45And the list goes on.
00:04:46Every sector of economic development and innovation and growth now is driven by new technologies and new ways of doing
00:04:54things,
00:04:55whether that's AI, whether it's quantum computing, and so much more besides.
00:05:00And so what we are focusing on this morning is sports technology
00:05:05and what technology and technology platforms and products can actually do for the sporting world,
00:05:13whether they be elite athletes or whether they be like you and I going for a run or a walk
00:05:20in the morning
00:05:20and trying to measure what that is doing for our health and our bodies.
00:05:26Or indeed, whether it's the spectator experience or whether it's how we resolve through technologies,
00:05:33challenges that people with a disability may have in terms of getting to and finding their seats in a stadium
00:05:39or getting to the restrooms or whatever.
00:05:42And so what you will see today is six innovative Irish companies at different stages of development and research
00:05:50producing products that actually can change the sporting experience,
00:05:54both for the athlete and the spectator and indeed sporting bodies as well,
00:05:59in terms of how we protect athletes from concussion and injury, for example.
00:06:04So we have much more clinical and accurate ways of actually measuring injury instantly
00:06:12so that we can make decisions to protect players in that context.
00:06:15So I'm conscious that in France and in Ireland, we are sports crazy nations
00:06:21and we are about to move into a whole series of international tournaments,
00:06:27whether it's the Women's World Cup in Australia for football,
00:06:30whether it's the Rugby World Cup in France in a few months' time,
00:06:34where Ireland and France will be renewing rivalries and friendships and much more besides,
00:06:39or of course, whether it's the Olympics and Special Olympics next year.
00:06:43So sports and technology is a big, big theme of VivaTech this year
00:06:48and Ireland and Irish companies want to be in the middle of that discussion
00:06:51and of course in the middle of that business and tech innovation.
00:06:55So with that, can I introduce you to five fantastic companies,
00:07:00six, I should say, fantastic companies doing very different things
00:07:04but applying technology to sport in a way that I think is very exciting.
00:07:08So thanks very much and enjoy the show.
00:07:11Ladies and gentlemen, hands together for Simon Coveney.
00:07:13Thank you so much.
00:07:15That's exactly true.
00:07:16Sports technology here in France, very, very important indeed
00:07:21and naturally also in Ireland as well.
00:07:23I'm intrigued as much as you all are as well
00:07:26to really hear what's really underneath the bonnet of these startups
00:07:30and really hearing their concepts really shared on this stage.
00:07:34Before we go any further, quickly, I'll introduce myself.
00:07:37My name is Peter Hopwood
00:07:38and I'll be guiding you through today, tomorrow, next day and the next day
00:07:42all here at, as I say, the Champs-Elysees,
00:07:45at the end of the Champs-Elysees of the Pitch Studio.
00:07:48I'm a pitch storytelling coach
00:07:50so I help people stand on stages just like this one,
00:07:53sharing their big ideas to people,
00:07:55hopefully getting them convinced that they're the right people to talk to.
00:08:00Let's move on.
00:08:01Right, on my left, you can see, I'm sure you can see,
00:08:04four people here patiently waiting while I've been talking,
00:08:08Simon's been talking.
00:08:09These are the people that will decide the fates.
00:08:13Well, not the whole fate, just winning, winning the winners.
00:08:18Well, everything else, I mean, if you want to, you can.
00:08:21But the main thing is that they will decide who the lucky winner is,
00:08:25the one winner of the six who will walk away winner of this competition.
00:08:29Let me just quickly introduce to you who we have.
00:08:32First of all, head of Immersive Lab and leading product strategy
00:08:36and product development for VR experiences at Bearing Point,
00:08:40Eric Chevalier.
00:08:42We also have Venture Capital Associates at Sport Tech
00:08:45and Life Sciences at Sevenshire Partners,
00:08:49Arthur Borgada.
00:08:50Strategy research principal at Frog,
00:08:53also intelligent products accelerator
00:08:55and intelligence for innovation expert
00:08:59at Capgemini event, Catherine Inanc.
00:09:04And also our fourth jury member project manager
00:09:07at Sport Incubator, Paris and co, Hugo Calcale.
00:09:14There we are.
00:09:14Right, should we begin?
00:09:16Yes, let's begin.
00:09:17The rules are really simple.
00:09:18The rules are so simple.
00:09:20Well, they're very, very simple indeed.
00:09:21Three minutes on this stage here.
00:09:23Three minutes, no more.
00:09:25There's a gong.
00:09:26There's a gong after three minutes.
00:09:28I will come in and interrupt if they continue.
00:09:30Then, after three minutes, we hear from our jury members.
00:09:34They will then, as I say, go underneath the bonnet,
00:09:37really finding out how these startups tick
00:09:41and help them decide who the winner is.
00:09:44And again, that's three minutes.
00:09:46We do that six times.
00:09:47They go off and decide who the winner is.
00:09:50and then we all find out who that winner actually is.
00:09:54Clear?
00:09:55Yes, it is.
00:09:55Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together
00:09:57for our very first startup of this Irish Enterprise Island pitch competition.
00:10:05Please welcome to the stage startup very simply called Access Earth.
00:10:21Thanks very much, everyone.
00:10:22And it's great to meet you all.
00:10:27Oh, higher?
00:10:27Yeah, is that better?
00:10:28Okay.
00:10:30Yeah?
00:10:32Brilliant.
00:10:33Okay, so I would like you all to imagine.
00:10:38Imagine that you're waiting outside a stadium
00:10:41with your family and friends
00:10:43to get into your team's next big game.
00:10:47It's a bit like the Q and Viva Tech, right?
00:10:48The excitement is palpable.
00:10:50Yet you're told minutes before kickoff
00:10:53that you have to use another entrance
00:10:56at the other side of the stadium
00:10:57away from your family and friends.
00:11:01Then you're told you have to sit somewhere else
00:11:04that you cannot sit with the very people
00:11:06that you wanted to share this experience with
00:11:09surrounded by strangers wearing different jerseys.
00:11:13Well, the number one problem faced by disabled fans like myself
00:11:17is not knowing what to expect when you arrive at a stadium.
00:11:23So our mission is simple.
00:11:25It's to make all businesses, including stadiums,
00:11:28accessible for everyone
00:11:29using a mixture of technology, innovation,
00:11:33and, of course, inclusion.
00:11:35We work all across the value chain
00:11:39to help really educate customers
00:11:42on the disability business case
00:11:44because 85% of people in the world
00:11:48will acquire a disability at some point
00:11:51during their working life.
00:11:53And that's one in six people in the world
00:11:55currently have a disability.
00:11:57It's the world's largest minority.
00:11:59But what stadiums can really leverage and realize
00:12:03is that businesses that prioritize inclusion
00:12:05and prioritize these changes
00:12:07can see an ROI of up to 250%
00:12:10and have access to a market with a spending power
00:12:13of over $13 trillion annually.
00:12:18We have a main solution here,
00:12:21which is customer experience feedback.
00:12:23It allows the fan to fully realize
00:12:27what to expect when they arrive
00:12:29by scanning a QR code at the venue's entrance.
00:12:32They get an interactive map
00:12:33telling them where their seat is,
00:12:35telling them where they can find their exact venue
00:12:39and where they can sit with their family and friends,
00:12:42how they can have that same experience.
00:12:44But more equally,
00:12:45it allows a clear one-to-one feedback with the club
00:12:49to have their voices heard
00:12:51at a segment that for so long
00:12:54has felt that they are on the periphery.
00:12:57But really, what we've known from COVID
00:12:59is that fans are crucially important to accessibility.
00:13:04And really, that's what we want to do.
00:13:06We want to make sure that everyone
00:13:07has that same experience.
00:13:09And so, with 25 seconds left,
00:13:13I would like to leave you with a simple message.
00:13:15We want to make sure that everyone here
00:13:18is able to access Earth.
00:13:21Thank you.
00:13:22Ladies and gentlemen,
00:13:23hands together for Access Earth.
00:13:26Okay.
00:13:27Let's hear from our jury members
00:13:28about how they felt about what they've just heard.
00:13:35Thanks very much.
00:13:37So, your product is really meant for stadiums,
00:13:41or who are the clients that you're looking for?
00:13:44So, it's primarily stadiums,
00:13:46but it's all across the value chain.
00:13:48So, we know that, for example,
00:13:49a lot of stadiums are owned by local authorities.
00:13:52So, we would work with the local authorities
00:13:53to make sure that that entire fan experience
00:13:56is accessible as well,
00:13:57from the transport hubs
00:13:59all the way through
00:14:00to the main restaurants and hotels.
00:14:01But primarily, yeah,
00:14:02the target is the stadiums.
00:14:10And are you working with the government?
00:14:14And what about the legal parts of their obligation?
00:14:19How do you work with that?
00:14:19Absolutely.
00:14:20So, we're involved
00:14:21at the policy decision-making as well.
00:14:23So, we've just been brought on
00:14:24to a new ISO standard working group
00:14:27for what's called
00:14:28multi-generational neighborhoods,
00:14:29which, of course,
00:14:30sport is a large pillar of that
00:14:32because it's about community wellness
00:14:34and community fitness.
00:14:35So, really,
00:14:36our role is to help influence
00:14:38that policy
00:14:39and that standard moving forward
00:14:40so that when we work
00:14:41with those local authorities,
00:14:43we can not only
00:14:45bring in those standards,
00:14:47but help to paint a greater picture
00:14:49for what a city can look like for everyone.
00:14:54Is your project already available?
00:14:57How many people have been testing it?
00:14:59So, we are working with
00:15:00three football clubs in Spain
00:15:03and we're also working with
00:15:05beginning to work
00:15:06with large sporting brands
00:15:07like Formula One
00:15:08to really influence
00:15:10that fan journey across sports.
00:15:12And then, on the transport side,
00:15:14we work with
00:15:14the International Transport Forum
00:15:15directly through the city of Leipzig,
00:15:18looking to make,
00:15:19in time for the Euro 2024,
00:15:22to make that city accessible.
00:15:24In addition,
00:15:25we're in advanced discussions
00:15:26with Paris 24 as well
00:15:28through the accessibility team
00:15:29to make sure that it can be
00:15:30the most accessible
00:15:31and inclusive Olympics
00:15:33and Paralympics possible.
00:15:37how does the business model work
00:15:39for your site?
00:15:41Yeah, so it's a simple SaaS model.
00:15:43So, the club will get access
00:15:44to a dashboard
00:15:45through the feedback system
00:15:46and leveraging the map as well,
00:15:48which we can integrate
00:15:49with whether it be
00:15:51the club's mobile app
00:15:52or through the club's mobile website.
00:15:54Or, if it's a small club,
00:15:56like we've done in Spain,
00:15:58we provide the infrastructure directly.
00:16:01so that we want to make sure
00:16:02that all clubs,
00:16:03large and small,
00:16:04have that same experience
00:16:06for everyone.
00:16:08Do you target the French market
00:16:10or no?
00:16:12Yeah, we're looking definitely
00:16:13up to target the French market.
00:16:14We are, just last week,
00:16:16starting a project
00:16:17with Lyon Airport,
00:16:19looking at ways
00:16:20that we can improve
00:16:20that passenger experience.
00:16:22and as mentioned as well,
00:16:23we're in advanced discussions
00:16:25with the Olympics
00:16:26and Paralympics
00:16:27for Paris 2024
00:16:28to really look at
00:16:30how we can, again,
00:16:31make Paris
00:16:32the most accessible
00:16:32and inclusive it can be.
00:16:35Ladies and gentlemen,
00:16:36hands together
00:16:36for Access Earth.
00:16:42A great way,
00:16:43as you've heard,
00:16:44a great way to begin
00:16:45and really, really important,
00:16:46clearly a very important
00:16:48concept and idea as well.
00:16:50And again,
00:16:50first-hand experience
00:16:51certainly in the UK.
00:16:52So many clubs,
00:16:54so many stadiums,
00:16:55some of them are doing it
00:16:56really well,
00:16:57very well indeed,
00:16:58yet so many
00:16:59are not doing it
00:17:00as much as they could.
00:17:01so I really look to see
00:17:03how this idea
00:17:04really develops
00:17:04and moves forward as well.
00:17:06There we are.
00:17:06There's our first start-up,
00:17:08first big idea.
00:17:09That's how it works.
00:17:10We're going to do it
00:17:10all over again
00:17:11another five times.
00:17:12Here we go.
00:17:12Our next idea now.
00:17:14Please welcome
00:17:15to the stage.
00:17:16Next start-up,
00:17:16very simply called
00:17:19Head Diagnostics.
00:17:33So, good morning.
00:17:34My name is
00:17:35Niall McNeilis
00:17:36and this morning
00:17:37I'm going to be talking
00:17:37to you about
00:17:38ocular microtremor
00:17:39measured via
00:17:40the Eye Tremor 1
00:17:41and it's used
00:17:42for sports-ready concussion.
00:17:49Sorry.
00:17:50So,
00:17:52in terms of concussion,
00:17:53it is a mild traumatic
00:17:54brain injury
00:17:54that is on the rise
00:17:56at every single level.
00:17:57So, we know that
00:17:58in the US alone,
00:17:591.7 to 3.8 million
00:18:01concussions
00:18:02present every year
00:18:03to the ED,
00:18:04to the emergency department.
00:18:05We also know
00:18:06that this only reflects
00:18:07one in ten
00:18:08of the total amount
00:18:09of concussions.
00:18:10What we also know
00:18:11through sports research
00:18:12is that one in five
00:18:14contact sports athletes
00:18:15will sustain a concussion
00:18:16every single year
00:18:17and we also know
00:18:18that one in four
00:18:19concussions
00:18:20will be sustained
00:18:22by an athlete
00:18:22throughout their career.
00:18:24Now,
00:18:25concussion
00:18:26as a mild traumatic
00:18:27brain injury
00:18:28is very complex.
00:18:29So,
00:18:30it is a neurophysiological injury.
00:18:32As a result,
00:18:33it can present
00:18:34with multiple
00:18:35different symptoms
00:18:36that evolve
00:18:37over the course
00:18:38of hours and days
00:18:39and these are simply
00:18:40some of those symptoms.
00:18:41What we also know
00:18:42is in the medium term,
00:18:44it can increase
00:18:45depression and anxiety
00:18:46and most worryingly
00:18:47in the long term,
00:18:49we know that
00:18:49it has been linked
00:18:50multiple bouts
00:18:51of head trauma
00:18:52have been linked
00:18:52with neurodegenerative diseases
00:18:54such as chronic
00:18:55traumatic encephalopathy,
00:18:56motor neuron disease,
00:18:58Alzheimer's disease
00:18:59and Parkinson's
00:19:00as well as reduced
00:19:01cognitive performance.
00:19:02Now,
00:19:03so what are we hoping
00:19:04to do about this?
00:19:05The key to concussion management
00:19:07is early identification
00:19:08and that's where we come in.
00:19:10So,
00:19:11oculomotor microtremor
00:19:13is a natural tremor
00:19:14that occurs in the eye
00:19:15and is related
00:19:16to brain stem function.
00:19:18So,
00:19:18it originates
00:19:18in the brain stem
00:19:19and therefore gives us
00:19:20an indicator
00:19:21of brain stem function.
00:19:22We know that
00:19:22normal OMT
00:19:23normally sits
00:19:24at around 80 hertz
00:19:25and it drops
00:19:26to the presence
00:19:27of neurological illness
00:19:28or injury.
00:19:29Now,
00:19:29what we are hoping
00:19:30is to add OMT
00:19:31to the decision-making process
00:19:33around this extremely
00:19:34complex injury.
00:19:35So,
00:19:36if you compare
00:19:37the current state
00:19:39around concussion diagnosis,
00:19:40it can be quite slow,
00:19:42it can be quite subjective
00:19:43in nature
00:19:44or why you're heavily relying
00:19:45on someone being honest,
00:19:46it can include blood
00:19:47and saliva processing
00:19:49as well as CT
00:19:50to outrule serious pathology
00:19:51but these
00:19:52have inherent costs.
00:19:54If you were to compare
00:19:55that with our device,
00:19:55what you see
00:19:56is held to the eye
00:19:57and takes a measurement
00:19:58in three seconds,
00:19:59it's a fast diagnosis,
00:20:01it's purely objective,
00:20:02it takes out
00:20:03the subjectivity to it,
00:20:04it is completely
00:20:06non-invasive
00:20:07and it's quite
00:20:07cost-effective.
00:20:09So,
00:20:09if you look
00:20:10at our journey,
00:20:11we began in 1977
00:20:13and published
00:20:13seminal research
00:20:14towards the late 90s
00:20:15and early noughties
00:20:16in Parkinson's disease,
00:20:18anaesthesia
00:20:18as well as how to controls.
00:20:20We're now at a stage
00:20:21thanks to Trinity College
00:20:22as well as
00:20:23Enterprise Ireland,
00:20:25we're looking
00:20:25for partnerships
00:20:26for funding,
00:20:27for clinical projects
00:20:28and concussion
00:20:29as well as
00:20:29for commercial pathways
00:20:30with the aim
00:20:31that we're going
00:20:32to be commercially viable
00:20:33within the next
00:20:33three to five years.
00:20:35Donc,
00:20:35je voudrais merci
00:20:36pour vos attention
00:20:37and I'll welcome
00:20:39any questions
00:20:39you might have
00:20:40alongside our
00:20:41clinical,
00:20:42our chief technical officer
00:20:44at Mindewis Norcus.
00:20:45Thank you.
00:20:45Ladies and gentlemen,
00:20:46hands together
00:20:46for head diagnostics.
00:20:48Right.
00:20:49A firm, bold pitch there
00:20:51finishing off
00:20:52in French.
00:20:53Best way ever.
00:20:54Right,
00:20:54let's hear from
00:20:54our jury members.
00:20:55So can we ask
00:20:56the question
00:20:57in French then?
00:20:59Absolument non.
00:21:02How do you
00:21:03actually measure
00:21:04when you have
00:21:05a concussion
00:21:05on a pitch
00:21:07for instance?
00:21:08Today,
00:21:09how does it work
00:21:10without your solution?
00:21:12So I suppose
00:21:13the benefit of this,
00:21:14let's say
00:21:15if you were applying
00:21:16this as an assessment
00:21:17tool,
00:21:18the real life benefits
00:21:19though,
00:21:19as a physiotherapist,
00:21:20as a kinesi-therapist,
00:21:21I work in a
00:21:22professional sport.
00:21:23So this would sit
00:21:24within the head injury
00:21:25assessment protocol
00:21:26that exists
00:21:27within the NFL
00:21:28rugby union.
00:21:29It would also assist
00:21:30with the recogniser
00:21:30removed.
00:21:31So basically,
00:21:32once either the game
00:21:33stops or an athlete
00:21:34is withdrawn from play,
00:21:35he or she can be
00:21:36scanned with our device.
00:21:37That can give us
00:21:38an objective measure
00:21:39and identify
00:21:39does this player
00:21:41need to be withdrawn
00:21:41or can they
00:21:42potentially return
00:21:43to play?
00:21:44That I understood
00:21:45but when you
00:21:46don't have the device,
00:21:47how do they do it
00:21:48actually?
00:21:48Are they able
00:21:49on the pitch
00:21:50to diagnose
00:21:50that you have
00:21:51a severe concussion?
00:21:52At present.
00:21:53At present, yeah.
00:21:54In terms of at present
00:21:55on pitch diagnosis
00:21:56based on seeing
00:21:57either what's called
00:21:57criteria one
00:21:58or criteria two.
00:21:59So criteria one
00:22:00would be loss
00:22:01of consciousness,
00:22:01tonic posturing,
00:22:03serious indications
00:22:04of concussion.
00:22:05Criteria two
00:22:06would more be
00:22:06feeling one's head,
00:22:07staying on the ground
00:22:08in motion.
00:22:09It's is there
00:22:09a concussion
00:22:10or is there not?
00:22:11So that would indicate
00:22:12firstly is an on pitch
00:22:13assessment required.
00:22:14The on pitch assessment
00:22:15then would feature
00:22:16questions around
00:22:17orientation and cognition
00:22:18as well as any symptoms
00:22:20that a player may have
00:22:21but if you look
00:22:22in rugby union
00:22:23you have the benefit
00:22:24at the top level
00:22:25we have the benefit
00:22:26of having video analysis.
00:22:28At the amateur level
00:22:29you don't
00:22:29and we know
00:22:30that these injuries
00:22:31happen in a chaotic
00:22:31environment
00:22:32at fast pace
00:22:33where you may not
00:22:34be able to see
00:22:35what's seen.
00:22:35As a result
00:22:36you're purely relying
00:22:37on what the player
00:22:37is telling you.
00:22:38what we've also seen
00:22:39at the recent
00:22:39Soccer World Cup
00:22:40as well
00:22:41is that the median
00:22:42assessment length
00:22:43is 57 seconds.
00:22:44You have up to
00:22:45three minutes
00:22:45which for an injury
00:22:46like this
00:22:47which evolves
00:22:48over hours and days
00:22:49and has significant
00:22:50potential long-term
00:22:51impacts
00:22:52is just not enough.
00:22:53So what we're hoping
00:22:54to do is to shine
00:22:55a light into the sphere
00:22:56of neurological assessment
00:22:57and this
00:22:58particularly for myself
00:22:59as a physio
00:23:00working at the top
00:23:01level in sport
00:23:02it would change
00:23:03my practice.
00:23:05Do you have
00:23:06any partnerships
00:23:07with university
00:23:08or academic?
00:23:11Yes indeed
00:23:12actually
00:23:15the technology
00:23:16itself
00:23:17it's spun out
00:23:18from the university
00:23:19it's one of the top
00:23:20universities in Ireland
00:23:21Trinity College Dublin
00:23:23and I was involved
00:23:24in the research
00:23:25of it
00:23:26at the early stage
00:23:27so I'm really proud
00:23:28of this project
00:23:28myself personally
00:23:29but yes indeed
00:23:30and we're still
00:23:31keeping the partnership
00:23:32with the university.
00:23:35What category
00:23:36of medical device
00:23:37is it considered?
00:23:39So indeed
00:23:41in Europe
00:23:41this is a class 2A
00:23:43medical device
00:23:44in US
00:23:45it will be class 2
00:23:46medical device
00:23:47and we are going
00:23:49through the regulator
00:23:49pathway at the moment
00:23:51in Europe
00:23:51and in the US.
00:23:53And with that
00:23:54we wrap up
00:23:56this picture
00:23:57ladies and gentlemen
00:23:58hands together
00:23:58forehead diagnostics
00:24:00well done.
00:24:02Another
00:24:03another strong
00:24:04bold
00:24:05big idea
00:24:06do we have a winner yet?
00:24:08I have no idea
00:24:08I'm looking at
00:24:09poker faces right now
00:24:11I have no idea
00:24:11what's going on
00:24:12in your mind
00:24:13maybe you
00:24:14maybe you already
00:24:15have a winner
00:24:16I don't know
00:24:16we've got another
00:24:18another set of
00:24:19big ideas
00:24:20to go through
00:24:21right now
00:24:21and again
00:24:21ladies and gentlemen
00:24:22you hear something
00:24:24you hear something
00:24:25you like
00:24:25you're curious
00:24:26you'd like to know more
00:24:27you might know someone
00:24:28who would like to know more
00:24:30again towards the end
00:24:32of this session
00:24:34a great idea for you
00:24:35just to come up
00:24:35have a chat
00:24:36grab a coffee
00:24:37have a chat with
00:24:38the pitchers
00:24:39the start-ups
00:24:40and see perhaps
00:24:41where those conversations
00:24:42will develop
00:24:44let's move on
00:24:45next pitch
00:24:45next big idea
00:24:47please welcome
00:24:48to the stage
00:24:49right now
00:24:49a start-up
00:24:50known as
00:24:52Move Ahead
00:25:11good morning
00:25:12everybody
00:25:13we are Move Ahead
00:25:15here
00:25:15what we are doing
00:25:17we are the world
00:25:18first motion tracking
00:25:20and movement analytics
00:25:21platform
00:25:22built specifically
00:25:23for kids
00:25:25Move Ahead
00:25:26is coming with
00:25:2615 years of
00:25:27children movement science
00:25:28we have the largest
00:25:29data set in the world
00:25:31in the movement
00:25:31kids analytics
00:25:33we are coming with
00:25:34science and know-how
00:25:35and also
00:25:36more importantly
00:25:37state-of-the-art
00:25:38computer vision technique
00:25:41so what Move Ahead
00:25:42is doing
00:25:42we are a motion tracking
00:25:43and movement analytics
00:25:45platforms
00:25:46built specifically
00:25:47for kids
00:25:48there is a movement crisis
00:25:50we all know
00:25:51the kids are spending
00:25:52six hours
00:25:53on average
00:25:53sedentary
00:25:54in front of a screen
00:25:55and worst things
00:25:57they can no longer
00:25:58develop the normal
00:25:59skills they need to do
00:26:00they can no longer
00:26:00hop, skip, jump
00:26:01or do these kind of things
00:26:03so yes
00:26:04there is a lot of
00:26:05active apps
00:26:06in some ways
00:26:06but they are limited
00:26:07in their movement
00:26:08capabilities
00:26:09they offer children
00:26:10the current solutions
00:26:12on top of this
00:26:12are built on adult data
00:26:14and we know
00:26:15kids are not
00:26:16mini-adults
00:26:17so
00:26:18there is solutions
00:26:19open there
00:26:20meta is already
00:26:21on there
00:26:22in here
00:26:22their solution
00:26:23doesn't work
00:26:24is not accurate
00:26:25for kids
00:26:25they believe
00:26:26in their models
00:26:27that the head
00:26:28of the kids
00:26:28is actual bull
00:26:29for the sizes
00:26:30the different proportions
00:26:31it doesn't work
00:26:32for those kids
00:26:32so
00:26:33the current solution
00:26:34is not safe
00:26:35is not educational
00:26:36and not fun
00:26:38that's why we are coming
00:26:39we are coming
00:26:40with the largest data set
00:26:41in the world
00:26:41and on top of this
00:26:43a way to explain
00:26:45this data
00:26:45we are coming
00:26:46with this science
00:26:47background
00:26:47with this
00:26:48so yes
00:26:49the kids
00:26:49when they are using
00:26:50any devices
00:26:51with a camera
00:26:52a tablet
00:26:53a mobile phone
00:26:55they see themselves
00:26:56and move ahead
00:26:56is crunching
00:26:57those numbers
00:26:58it's fully anonymous
00:26:59data sets
00:27:00and we are making sense
00:27:01to those numbers
00:27:02that are extremely
00:27:03hard to understand
00:27:03so now
00:27:05all of a sudden
00:27:05you have
00:27:06a safe
00:27:07educational
00:27:08and fun solution
00:27:09that's out there
00:27:09available
00:27:11so move ahead
00:27:12have an SDK
00:27:13and an API components
00:27:14so that kids
00:27:15big jump
00:27:16massive splash
00:27:17if you're doing
00:27:18a small jump
00:27:18small splash
00:27:19there's a lot of
00:27:20analytics behind
00:27:21the scene
00:27:21that understand
00:27:22kids motions
00:27:24so
00:27:24we are
00:27:25working with brands
00:27:26and we are making
00:27:27children
00:27:27where they are
00:27:28where are they
00:27:29the brands
00:27:31have developed
00:27:32connected products
00:27:33Lego has them
00:27:3420 million kids
00:27:36are using it
00:27:37kinder
00:27:38there's 60 million
00:27:39kids using it
00:27:40it's working
00:27:41this way
00:27:42we are working
00:27:43with the brands
00:27:43directly
00:27:45we are trusted
00:27:46by the world's
00:27:46leading brands
00:27:48to move children
00:27:49and we are moving
00:27:49millions of children
00:27:50this way
00:27:52an example here
00:27:53is this digital
00:27:54retail experience
00:27:55is that blend
00:27:56between the physical
00:27:57and the digital
00:27:58so move ahead
00:27:59is doing those
00:28:00kind of things
00:28:00helping brands
00:28:01to do these
00:28:02kind of things
00:28:02in the shops
00:28:03but we are also
00:28:04supporting brands
00:28:06to help parents
00:28:07this guilt-free
00:28:08screen time
00:28:09now you can give
00:28:10your kids a solution
00:28:11and it works
00:28:12for them
00:28:13on top of this
00:28:14this personalized
00:28:15experience is extremely
00:28:16key
00:28:17every kid will have
00:28:18a unique experience
00:28:19and we are supporting
00:28:20learning on top of this
00:28:22which is absolutely
00:28:22super important
00:28:24we've raised
00:28:25quite a lot of funding
00:28:26so far
00:28:27I'm happy to discuss
00:28:28with people
00:28:28interested to do more
00:28:29thank you very much
00:28:31ladies and gentlemen
00:28:32hands together
00:28:32for move ahead
00:28:34right
00:28:36let's hear
00:28:36how far ahead
00:28:39this startup is
00:28:40in the minds
00:28:41of our jury members
00:28:42let's hear
00:28:44are you co-developing
00:28:46the games
00:28:46with the brand
00:28:47you're working on
00:28:47or is it something
00:28:48that you would
00:28:49implement in your
00:28:50own application

00:28:52with like leading
00:28:53brand studios
00:28:53game studios
00:28:54so that's
00:28:55and we are empowering
00:28:56the studios
00:28:57to put the solution
00:28:58in their games
00:28:59okay
00:29:00and so
00:29:00these are the
00:29:01players
00:29:02final players
00:29:02for you
00:29:03in your business model
00:29:04yeah
00:29:05so we're working
00:29:06directly with the brands
00:29:07okay
00:29:07and the business model
00:29:08is a licensing agreement
00:29:09that we're making
00:29:10with the brands
00:29:10depending on the usage
00:29:11they have
00:29:12so depending on
00:29:12the number of kids
00:29:13developing and using
00:29:14the solutions
00:29:15or depending on
00:29:16how many times
00:29:16they're using it
00:29:19and is it used
00:29:20directly on your
00:29:21application
00:29:21meaning that you can
00:29:22do it at home
00:29:23or it's something
00:29:23more physical
00:29:24as you showed
00:29:25in
00:29:25yeah exactly
00:29:26so it works on
00:29:26everything
00:29:27that's the beauty
00:29:27of that
00:29:28we don't need hardware
00:29:28you can use
00:29:29any camera
00:29:30with any devices
00:29:31so your mobile phone
00:29:32works
00:29:32it works on your
00:29:34laptop
00:29:35it works on the
00:29:36tablet
00:29:36and obviously
00:29:37the retail experience
00:29:37makes it work
00:29:38on the big screen
00:29:39of the camera
00:29:39so any device
00:29:40if the camera works
00:29:41online
00:29:42and offline
00:29:43and so your
00:29:49existing use cases
00:29:50and clients
00:29:51and where are you
00:29:52today
00:29:53like geographically
00:29:54yeah so
00:29:54the first release
00:29:56will be
00:29:57the 15th of august
00:29:58at the moment
00:29:59we're still under
00:29:59NDAs
00:30:00and it'll be
00:30:00worldwide release
00:30:01which is the beauty
00:30:03of this
00:30:03like we are
00:30:03we're gonna accumulate
00:30:05even more data
00:30:06to really understand
00:30:07the kids motion
00:30:08and we have this unique
00:30:09added value
00:30:10that has this
00:30:11saturated levels
00:30:12of data analytics
00:30:13our models
00:30:14are already working
00:30:15and they're gonna be
00:30:16refined even more
00:30:17as we're progressing
00:30:18with our clients
00:30:20when and why
00:30:21was the idea
00:30:22was born
00:30:23oh I used to be
00:30:25an associate professor
00:30:26in one of the
00:30:26Irish universities
00:30:27for 15 years
00:30:28my co-founder
00:30:29Jamie
00:30:29which is here
00:30:30you can happily
00:30:31meet him afterwards
00:30:31was in Trinity College
00:30:33as well
00:30:33so we've developed
00:30:35research
00:30:35been really pragmatic
00:30:36working with kids
00:30:37and we wanted to do it
00:30:39at scale
00:30:39and that's where
00:30:40we had a problem
00:30:41as a researcher
00:30:42you can do it
00:30:42at scale
00:30:43so we had an amazing
00:30:44support from
00:30:45Enterprise Ireland
00:30:45for the last three years
00:30:47to make this idea
00:30:48a product that has
00:30:50an interest
00:30:51on the markets
00:30:52so the product market
00:30:53fits
00:30:53plus the tech development
00:30:55was two years
00:30:55in incubation
00:30:56and we spun out
00:30:57of the university
00:30:58last year
00:30:58and now we're
00:30:59fully established
00:31:00and continue having
00:31:01an amazing support
00:31:02as you can see here
00:31:04you started the pitch
00:31:06by insisting
00:31:07on the data
00:31:08you have
00:31:09for the kids
00:31:10but how different
00:31:11is the kids motion
00:31:12versus an adult
00:31:13basically
00:31:14yes
00:31:15two different things
00:31:16I could tell you
00:31:16for hours
00:31:17what this kind of answer
00:31:18but they are developing
00:31:19so every day
00:31:20they are changing
00:31:21because they are going
00:31:22through this
00:31:23motor development phases
00:31:24that keep changing
00:31:25what they can do
00:31:26but they can do this
00:31:27also at different pace
00:31:29so two years old
00:31:30kids are already different
00:31:32when you take
00:31:33two eight years old
00:31:34kids
00:31:34they are moving
00:31:35in different ways
00:31:35so they are learning
00:31:37different things
00:31:38at different times
00:31:38in different directions
00:31:39and they are getting
00:31:41towards what we do
00:31:42as an adult
00:31:42and we are helping
00:31:43the brands
00:31:44to bring them in there
00:31:45and there we have it
00:31:47we heard the gong
00:31:47that means it is all over
00:31:49ladies and gentlemen
00:31:49hands together
00:31:50for move ahead
00:31:51well done

00:31:57what is happening here
00:31:59on this pitch studio
00:32:01very simply
00:32:01big ideas
00:32:02today
00:32:02right now
00:32:03it is all about
00:32:04Ireland

00:32:11things they are doing
00:32:12great concepts
00:32:13and hopefully
00:32:14hopefully
00:32:14looking for conversations
00:32:16afterwards
00:32:16with people who are curious
00:32:18and would like to know more
00:32:19and take those conversations
00:32:20forward
00:32:21let's move on now
00:32:22to our next
00:32:23start up
00:32:24right now

00:32:26for our next start up
00:32:27called
00:32:28Output Sports
00:32:38Hi I'm Dr. Martin O'Reilly
00:32:40the CEO
00:32:41and co-founder
00:32:42of Output Sports
00:32:43our mission is to make
00:32:44elite level sports science
00:32:45simple and scalable
00:32:46we are currently raising
00:32:48one and a half million
00:32:48to double down
00:32:49on our US growth
00:32:50and introduce
00:32:51AI remote coaching
00:32:52to our system
00:32:56so what gets measured
00:32:57gets improved
00:32:58and systems like
00:32:59Whoop and Garmin
00:33:00have shown this
00:33:00but for strength
00:33:01power and movement
00:33:02we are the company
00:33:03that work with
00:33:03Masters winner
00:33:04John Ram
00:33:05to build his rotational power
00:33:07the England football team
00:33:08to improve
00:33:09and maintain their fitness
00:33:10at the World Cup
00:33:11and Trevor Lawrence
00:33:12the number one NFL
00:33:13draft pick
00:33:14to prepare for the NFL combine
00:33:16but what's so exciting
00:33:18about Output Sports
00:33:18is our technology
00:33:20is applicable to
00:33:21athletes of all levels
00:33:22and we now work
00:33:23with thousands of athletes
00:33:24at the school
00:33:25and gym level
00:33:27so the type of data
00:33:29we provide
00:33:29traditionally
00:33:30required cumbersome
00:33:32expensive kit
00:33:32that was super expensive
00:33:34and a real data management
00:33:36nightmare for coaches
00:33:36and athletes
00:33:37but nowadays
00:33:38we do it all
00:33:39with one matchbox
00:33:40sized sensor
00:33:41and a simple mobile app
00:33:42and cloud system
00:33:43so with our sensor
00:33:45our mobile app
00:33:46and our cloud
00:33:47you no longer
00:33:48have to trade accuracy
00:33:49in fitness testing
00:33:50for simplicity
00:33:51and that means
00:33:52means that we have
00:33:54such accurate data
00:33:55from 10 years
00:33:56of academic research
00:33:57feeding into future
00:33:59system models
00:33:59so we capture
00:34:00400,000 reps
00:34:02from end users
00:34:03month for month
00:34:04to help build out
00:34:05our future AI coaching features
00:34:08the team making this possible
00:34:09is an all star mix
00:34:10Dara, Gillian and I
00:34:12co-founded Output
00:34:13as a spin out from UCD
00:34:14and we're all first in class
00:34:15students in engineering
00:34:16physics and physiotherapy
00:34:18and now we're joined
00:34:19with experts
00:34:20who have scaled
00:34:21sports businesses before
00:34:23the addressable market
00:34:24for Output
00:34:25is absolutely massive
00:34:26and in the last six months
00:34:27we've started to unlock
00:34:28the high school market
00:34:30and the gym market
00:34:31in the US
00:34:32which are both
00:34:32really really phenomenal
00:34:33opportunity for us
00:34:37so in the last six months
00:34:39we've tripled our revenues
00:34:41in the USA
00:34:41and we've onboarded
00:34:42over 150 US clients
00:34:44month for month
00:34:45we're onboarding
00:34:46about 40 US clients
00:34:47and right now
00:34:48this is what we want
00:34:49to double down on
00:34:50we're currently raising
00:34:51one and a half million
00:34:52to double our sales
00:34:53and marketing effort
00:34:53in the USA
00:34:54and grow our company
00:34:55to 2 million ARR
00:34:57by the end of 2024
00:34:59so with your help
00:35:00we can help
00:35:01accelerate our mission
00:35:02of making elite sports science
00:35:04simple and scalable
00:35:05to help athletes
00:35:06at all levels
00:35:07achieve their training goals
00:35:08and I just want to say
00:35:09thank you
00:35:10to Enterprise Ireland
00:35:11and Viva Tech
00:35:12for allowing us
00:35:13to pitch here today
00:35:14it's a great opportunity
00:35:15and it's a pleasure
00:35:15to be here
00:35:16ladies general
00:35:17hands together
00:35:18for Output Sports
00:35:19there we have it
00:35:21fourth big idea
00:35:23in this list of six
00:35:24let's hear from our jury members
00:35:26about what they felt
00:35:27about what they've just heard
00:35:30hi
00:35:30what kind of sports
00:35:32do you cover
00:35:33because we talk about fitness
00:35:34but what else do you do
00:35:35yes
00:35:36so we're an off-field
00:35:37performance system
00:35:38so we actually work
00:35:39with over 40 sports
00:35:40so any sport
00:35:42where you need to improve
00:35:42your strength
00:35:43your speed
00:35:44your movement quality
00:35:45we're applicable in
00:35:46we've had most traction
00:35:48in soccer
00:35:49in NFL
00:35:50or American football
00:35:51baseball
00:35:52and then recently
00:35:53golf as well
00:35:54but we actually work across
00:35:55over 40 sports in total
00:35:56so we're quite sport agnostic
00:35:58will it work under water
00:36:00for the swimmers
00:36:01so we actually do work
00:36:03with for instance
00:36:03the Spanish national swimming team
00:36:05but it's for their gym work
00:36:06so when they go in
00:36:07to build their jump power
00:36:08so they can push off
00:36:09the wall fast
00:36:10that's what we help them develop
00:36:11not their actual swimming technique
00:36:13but their physical characteristics
00:36:15for swimming
00:36:18what are the insights
00:36:19that you are giving
00:36:20to the user
00:36:21at the end of the day
00:36:22and is it for
00:36:24athletes
00:36:24or is it for trainers
00:36:25so we work with both
00:36:27but we predominantly target
00:36:28businesses and trainers
00:36:29currently
00:36:30and we provide
00:36:31fitness characteristic data
00:36:32so how flexible are you
00:36:33how strong are you
00:36:34how powerful are you
00:36:35but then as you train
00:36:37in the gym
00:36:37we also quantify
00:36:38your power
00:36:39your force
00:36:39your movement
00:36:40so you can then modulate
00:36:41in a personalized fashion
00:36:42your progression
00:36:43towards your goal
00:36:44so it's testing data
00:36:46and tracking data
00:36:47for athletes
00:36:47and how has it been
00:36:49implemented
00:36:50in the training session
00:36:51because it's sometimes
00:36:52quite difficult
00:36:53for trainers
00:36:54to have new data
00:36:55to implement
00:36:57and to understand
00:36:57so one of our stats
00:36:59that we're really proud of
00:37:00is we're over 30 times faster
00:37:02to test and track a team
00:37:03than traditional
00:37:04heavy cumbersome technologies
00:37:06so they set it up
00:37:07like stations
00:37:07and an athlete walks up
00:37:09selects their profile
00:37:10completes a jump
00:37:11or a lift
00:37:11and it just logs
00:37:12to the cloud
00:37:12in real time
00:37:13and then you get leaderboards
00:37:15and the athletes all compete
00:37:16with more intent
00:37:17and that drives adaptation
00:37:18as well
00:37:19so it's a real advantage
00:37:20of output
00:37:21is our simplicity
00:37:21of implementation
00:37:22versus the old school
00:37:23kit in pro environments
00:37:27and on the picture
00:37:29we see the hardware
00:37:30or the sensor
00:37:31so each one
00:37:32has to equip
00:37:33with specific sensors
00:37:35and there's an onboarding phase
00:37:37like how does
00:37:39physically
00:37:39how does it work
00:37:40yeah yeah
00:37:41so I actually have the sensor
00:37:42I'll just show it to you here
00:37:42so it's very very simple
00:37:44little unit
00:37:45it pairs up to any mobile phone
00:37:46or tablet device
00:37:47so the onboarding experience
00:37:49is very very simple
00:37:50you get taken through
00:37:51how to pair the sensor
00:37:52where to position it
00:37:53and then you can just
00:37:54get measuring
00:37:55we do with teams
00:37:56do like a flow
00:37:58recommendation
00:37:59typically one hour
00:38:00and then they start
00:38:01to implement it
00:38:01day to day
00:38:02in their testing
00:38:02and training
00:38:03but one of our things
00:38:04again that we're proud of
00:38:05is it's much much easier
00:38:06than traditional techniques
00:38:09do you know
00:38:09if there is some
00:38:11similar solution
00:38:12in France
00:38:14so there's a variety
00:38:16of things
00:38:16that measure aspects
00:38:17of what we do
00:38:17so for instance
00:38:19velocity based training
00:38:20or jump testing
00:38:21or flexibility
00:38:22but our uniqueness
00:38:23is doing it all
00:38:24in one system
00:38:24with the unified data set
00:38:26but also the level
00:38:27of accuracy
00:38:27so other portable systems
00:38:29that we've tested against
00:38:30versus the laboratory kit
00:38:31we would have about
00:38:32seven times better agreement
00:38:33than the competitors
00:38:35so I'm not sure
00:38:36of exactly
00:38:36the French competitors
00:38:37but there's certainly
00:38:38other ways to get our data
00:38:39but not in the way
00:38:40we do it
00:38:40and there we have it
00:38:42going again
00:38:42hands together
00:38:43for Output Sports
00:38:44well done
00:38:45listen we have
00:38:47that is already
00:38:48the fourth
00:38:48that's the fourth
00:38:49big idea
00:38:49fourth start up
00:38:50out of six
00:38:51I don't know about you
00:38:52but I certainly
00:38:53couldn't decide
00:38:54who walks away
00:38:55a winner
00:38:56I'm looking
00:38:56again I look at you
00:38:58and I have no idea
00:38:59what's going on
00:39:00in your mind
00:39:01especially you
00:39:02poker faced as well
00:39:03have no idea
00:39:04but we'll find out
00:39:06we will find out
00:39:07a little bit later on
00:39:08after the sixth
00:39:10start up
00:39:11has shared their big idea
00:39:12we'll find out
00:39:12very shortly afterwards
00:39:13who will be
00:39:15the well
00:39:16I say lucky
00:39:17it's more well deserved
00:39:18winner of this
00:39:19pitching competition
00:39:20right we move on
00:39:21now to
00:39:22next start up
00:39:23of Enterprise Island
00:39:25pitching competition
00:39:26which is very simply
00:39:27called
00:39:28Rugby
00:39:29Smarts
00:39:43good morning everyone
00:39:45I'm absolutely
00:39:46delighted to be here
00:39:47I'm Yvonne Comer
00:39:49CEO of Rugby Smarts
00:39:50and our team
00:39:51is on a mission
00:39:52to revolutionize
00:39:54video analytics
00:39:57as a coach
00:39:58I'm often asked
00:39:59my thoughts
00:40:00on a match
00:40:01but I've realized
00:40:02I can only remember
00:40:04a few of those
00:40:05key moments
00:40:07it turns out
00:40:08that even the top
00:40:09coaches
00:40:10can only recall
00:40:1160% of
00:40:13critical
00:40:14events
00:40:15that occurred
00:40:16during the match
00:40:17judging performance
00:40:19based on memory
00:40:20isn't fair
00:40:21on the teams
00:40:22or the athletes
00:40:23and
00:40:24your best players
00:40:26aren't always
00:40:27those standout
00:40:27flashy performers
00:40:30I've coached players
00:40:31who haven't met
00:40:32the regional teams
00:40:33and I've not been able
00:40:35to prove their word
00:40:36to the selectors
00:40:39I haven't had the time
00:40:41or resources
00:40:41as a volunteer
00:40:42to invest in expensive
00:40:45video analytics
00:40:46software
00:40:47so I jumped at the chance
00:40:49to help athletes
00:40:50like these
00:40:50when my co-founder
00:40:52suggested there was
00:40:53a better way of doing
00:40:54performance analytics
00:40:57rugby smarts
00:40:58uses deep tech
00:40:59to automatically
00:41:00analyze video
00:41:01allowing coaches
00:41:02to make better decisions
00:41:05video is extremely
00:41:07important
00:41:07as over 80%
00:41:09of athletes
00:41:10are now
00:41:10visual learners
00:41:11they need to be able
00:41:13to see us
00:41:14to understand
00:41:15how to improve
00:41:16rugby smarts
00:41:18is an all-in-one
00:41:19coaching tool
00:41:20and they can open up
00:41:21new revenue
00:41:22generation opportunities
00:41:23for clubs
00:41:26the cloud-based
00:41:27smarts technology
00:41:29and self-learning AI
00:41:30means the more
00:41:32it's used
00:41:32the more intuitive
00:41:33it becomes
00:41:34it brings
00:41:36a five-hour
00:41:37process
00:41:38right down
00:41:39to one
00:41:40we tag
00:41:42those moments
00:41:42that matter
00:41:46our team's
00:41:47complementary
00:41:47skill set
00:41:48means that
00:41:49we've developed
00:41:50a multi-award
00:41:51winning platform
00:41:52so why did we
00:41:54start with rugby
00:41:55as players
00:41:57and coaches
00:41:58we know our
00:41:59markets intimately
00:42:00I'm a former
00:42:02international player
00:42:03and I also say
00:42:04it's on the Irish
00:42:05rugby board
00:42:05the technical
00:42:07difficulty of rugby
00:42:08also means
00:42:09it's going to be
00:42:10an easy move
00:42:11into other sports
00:42:14since launching
00:42:16last year
00:42:16we've trialed
00:42:18our MVP
00:42:18with Connacht Rugby
00:42:19we've gotten
00:42:21traction
00:42:21across three
00:42:22continents
00:42:23we've started
00:42:24generating revenue
00:42:26and we're clients
00:42:27of both
00:42:27Enterprise Ireland
00:42:28and Jetro
00:42:29we're now on
00:42:31the IRFU
00:42:32innovation program
00:42:35and we've
00:42:36completed
00:42:37feasibility
00:42:37in another sport
00:42:40sports tech
00:42:41is a 56 billion
00:42:42dollar market
00:42:43so we are
00:42:44looking for
00:42:45investors to
00:42:45come on board
00:42:46for our 800k
00:42:47rounds
00:42:48and intros
00:42:49into any teams
00:42:50who might love
00:42:50this technology
00:42:51thank you
00:42:52there we are
00:42:52ladies and gentlemen
00:42:53Rugby Smarts
00:42:54just in time
00:42:56right
00:42:58let's hear
00:42:59what our jury
00:43:00feel about
00:43:01Rugby Smarts
00:43:02I don't know
00:43:03if you know
00:43:04but we have
00:43:05invested in a
00:43:05company doing
00:43:06quite the same
00:43:07thing but for
00:43:08football
00:43:08for soccer
00:43:08for scale
00:43:09corner
00:43:10in France
00:43:11and they are
00:43:12directly working
00:43:13on the video
00:43:13but your
00:43:15product is something
00:43:16where you have to
00:43:17implement the video
00:43:18and you have to
00:43:18choose
00:43:19where you want
00:43:20to work
00:43:20and have the data
00:43:21or is it something
00:43:22done directly
00:43:23okay so with our
00:43:25product the teams
00:43:27can use their
00:43:28existing video
00:43:29and we then
00:43:30that video gets
00:43:31uploaded into our
00:43:32platform
00:43:33and the computer
00:43:34vision software
00:43:35and machine learning
00:43:36will automatically
00:43:37analyze those videos
00:43:38and tag any of the
00:43:39key events that
00:43:40happen within a match
00:43:41so the feedback
00:43:43from your product
00:43:44is key events
00:43:45so saying
00:43:46at that moment
00:43:47does that happen
00:43:48with this player
00:43:48so at the moment
00:43:50we're tagging
00:43:51just the major events
00:43:52so in the case of
00:43:53rugby that will be
00:43:53scrums, lineouts,
00:43:55rooks, malls,
00:43:55restarts
00:43:56our next phase
00:43:57is moving on
00:43:58to pitch positioning
00:44:01so coordinates
00:44:02on the pitch
00:44:02and then we have
00:44:03a tech roadmap
00:44:03built out
00:44:04for the next five years
00:44:05to develop features
00:44:06as they add value
00:44:08to the teams
00:44:08so we do a lot
00:44:09of customer validation
00:44:10and customer feedback
00:44:11surveys
00:44:12to make sure
00:44:13we're giving them
00:44:13the most value
00:44:14for what they need
00:44:16is it only for
00:44:17teams or
00:44:18is it also for
00:44:19media or
00:44:19betting business
00:44:21at the moment
00:44:23one of our key
00:44:24mission is to
00:44:25help those coaches
00:44:26who don't have
00:44:27the money or
00:44:27resources to invest
00:44:29in expensive
00:44:30complicated software
00:44:31so we're focusing
00:44:33mainly on
00:44:34the sort of
00:44:34high schools
00:44:35grassroots rugby
00:44:37colleges in the US
00:44:38we will eventually
00:44:40get to the point
00:44:40where we will build
00:44:41out the features
00:44:42and then can look
00:44:43to the pro game
00:44:48so are you
00:44:49planning to have
00:44:50different products
00:44:51depending on
00:44:52like 7
00:44:5415
00:44:55like women
00:44:56men
00:44:57how's it
00:44:58how
00:44:58what's your
00:44:59roadmap
00:45:00yeah
00:45:01so for the rugby
00:45:02it can cover
00:45:03every element
00:45:05of rugby
00:45:05right now
00:45:06we've been doing
00:45:07some trials
00:45:08for rugby league
00:45:08as well
00:45:09just to see
00:45:09how it will work
00:45:10in that environment
00:45:11we've done
00:45:12feasibility
00:45:13on Gaelic football
00:45:14which is
00:45:14for anyone in the room
00:45:16doesn't know
00:45:16it's the Irish
00:45:17national sport
00:45:17and the hope
00:45:19then with the
00:45:19North American market
00:45:20would be to move
00:45:21into American football
00:45:22and soccer
00:45:29the video
00:45:30the way you feed
00:45:31the video
00:45:32is it like
00:45:33can you combine
00:45:35multiple sources
00:45:36or angle view
00:45:39or how does it
00:45:40work on that
00:45:40side
00:45:40yeah
00:45:41so because
00:45:42of the amount
00:45:43of customer
00:45:44validation
00:45:45we've done
00:45:45we knew
00:45:46right from
00:45:46the beginning
00:45:47that the
00:45:47pro teams
00:45:48tend to have
00:45:49a minimum
00:45:49of four
00:45:50feeds
00:45:50coming in
00:45:51so we've
00:45:52always built
00:45:53out the
00:45:53product
00:45:54with that
00:45:54in mind
00:45:55so that you
00:45:56can add
00:45:56multiple feeds
00:45:57and it can
00:45:57tag the
00:45:58different events
00:45:59within that
00:45:59there we have
00:46:01it ladies
00:46:01and gentlemen
00:46:02hands together
00:46:02for rugby
00:46:04smarts
00:46:04well done
00:46:06well done
00:46:07indeed
00:46:07again
00:46:08listen
00:46:08believe it
00:46:09or not
00:46:10we are
00:46:10now
00:46:10on the
00:46:11last
00:46:12start-up
00:46:12the sixth
00:46:13start-up
00:46:14of six
00:46:14really
00:46:15representing
00:46:16really
00:46:16on working
00:46:17together
00:46:17with
00:46:17enterprise
00:46:18Ireland
00:46:19showcasing
00:46:20their big
00:46:20ideas
00:46:20from Ireland
00:46:21really looking
00:46:22to connect
00:46:23share their
00:46:23big idea
00:46:24with you
00:46:24but also
00:46:25create
00:46:26connections
00:46:26and share
00:46:27conversations
00:46:28as well
00:46:28so again
00:46:29anything
00:46:29anybody
00:46:30you've heard
00:46:31already
00:46:31on this
00:46:32stage
00:46:32and again
00:46:33everybody
00:46:34you're going
00:46:34to hear
00:46:34today
00:46:35and the
00:46:35next
00:46:35coming
00:46:36days
00:46:36as well
00:46:36you like
00:46:37what you
00:46:37hear
00:46:37you're curious
00:46:38you'd like
00:46:38to know
00:46:39more
00:46:39walk up
00:46:40to them
00:46:40have a
00:46:41chat
00:46:41get them
00:46:41a coffee
00:46:42buy them
00:46:42a croissant
00:46:42have it
00:46:43sit down
00:46:44and then
00:46:44take those
00:46:44conversations
00:46:45forward
00:46:45because
00:46:46essentially
00:46:46that is
00:46:47what
00:46:47literally
00:46:47almost
00:46:48everyone
00:46:49not almost
00:46:49every
00:46:50start-up
00:46:50here
00:46:51is certainly
00:46:52looking for
00:46:53let's move
00:46:53on now
00:46:53to the very
00:46:54last start-up
00:46:55of this
00:46:56pitching
00:46:56competition
00:46:57which is
00:46:58simply called
00:46:59I say that
00:46:59every time
00:47:00they're simply
00:47:00called
00:47:01I mean
00:47:01all simply
00:47:02called
00:47:03Yolograms
00:47:12Bonjour
00:47:13VivaTech
00:47:14it's actually
00:47:15Volograms
00:47:15with a V
00:47:18so not that
00:47:19simply
00:47:19cool I guess
00:47:20but yeah
00:47:21so if you
00:47:23think about it
00:47:23for a moment
00:47:24and you think
00:47:25about how
00:47:25the content
00:47:26and communications
00:47:27that we use
00:47:27have evolved
00:47:28over the last
00:47:28years
00:47:29I mean
00:47:29obviously
00:47:30if we go
00:47:30even further
00:47:31back
00:47:32we've moved
00:47:32from photos
00:47:34to videos
00:47:34so adding
00:47:35movement
00:47:35we've gone
00:47:36adding colors
00:47:37and at
00:47:38Volograms
00:47:39we know
00:47:39that that's
00:47:39not the end
00:47:40of it
00:47:40and the
00:47:41content
00:47:41that we
00:47:42consume
00:47:42and that
00:47:42we use
00:47:43it's already
00:47:44becoming
00:47:443D
00:47:44we're enabling
00:47:46this new
00:47:46generation
00:47:47of content
00:47:47and communications
00:47:48by bringing
00:47:49humans
00:47:49into this
00:47:50type
00:47:51of 3D
00:47:52content
00:47:53right
00:47:54so the
00:47:54problem
00:47:54that we
00:47:55have
00:47:55is that
00:47:55there are
00:47:56at the
00:47:57moment
00:47:57there are
00:47:58already
00:47:581 billion
00:47:59active users
00:48:00of immersive
00:48:00technologies
00:48:02probably you
00:48:03even if you
00:48:03don't know
00:48:03it
00:48:04but you
00:48:04use AR
00:48:05filters
00:48:05for your
00:48:05social media
00:48:06or similar
00:48:07tools like
00:48:08that
00:48:08but you
00:48:09can't create
00:48:10content for
00:48:10that
00:48:10while with
00:48:11video and
00:48:12pictures
00:48:12creating videos
00:48:14creating pictures
00:48:15sharing them
00:48:16distributing them
00:48:16is extremely
00:48:17simple
00:48:17with 3D
00:48:18content
00:48:19it's much
00:48:19harder
00:48:20and you
00:48:21need
00:48:21professional
00:48:21tools
00:48:22professional
00:48:22knowledge

00:58:11are
00:58:11we
00:58:11going
00:58:11to
00:58:11get
00:58:11them
00:58:12more
00:58:12involved
00:58:12in
00:58:12rugby
00:58:13and
00:58:13as
00:58:14we
00:58:14move
00:58:14more
00:58:14and
00:58:14more
00:58:15into
00:58:15the
00:58:15decentralized
00:58:16economy
00:58:17that will
00:58:17change the
00:58:18relationship we
00:58:19actually have
00:58:19with our
00:58:19fans
00:58:20and we're
00:58:20looking in
00:58:21that area
00:58:21so important
00:58:22what you
00:58:23just said
00:58:23there
00:58:23and actually
00:58:24I had a
00:58:24chat with
00:58:25our first
00:58:25picture at
00:58:26the beginning
00:58:26just about
00:58:27that
00:58:29disabled
00:58:30fans
00:58:30and really
00:58:31having their
00:58:32voice heard
00:58:33and then
00:58:33number two
00:58:35clubs
00:58:36stadiums
00:58:36football
00:58:37clubs
00:58:37talk about
00:58:38football
00:58:38but certainly
00:58:38rugby as
00:58:39well
00:58:39actually
00:58:40taking
00:58:41action
00:58:41and listening
00:58:42to those
00:58:43voices
00:58:44and making
00:58:45the whole
00:58:46experience
00:58:46different from
00:58:48what it is
00:58:48now
00:58:48tell us a
00:58:49little bit
00:58:49more
00:58:49I'm not
00:58:50sure
00:58:50myself
00:58:50but in
00:58:51let's
00:58:51say in
00:58:52Ireland
00:58:52rugby
00:58:53in terms
00:58:54of let's
00:58:55say disabled
00:58:56fans
00:58:57what's
00:58:57the landscape
00:58:58looking like
00:58:59are they
00:58:59doing things
00:59:00well
00:59:00are they
00:59:01listening
00:59:01I think
00:59:02we can do
00:59:03a lot of
00:59:03things better
00:59:04and we're
00:59:05obviously
00:59:05working in
00:59:06that space
00:59:06at the
00:59:06moment
00:59:07but we're
00:59:08obviously
00:59:08going to
00:59:09look to
00:59:10work with
00:59:10access
00:59:10earth
00:59:11going forward
00:59:11to see how
00:59:12we can
00:59:12integrate some
00:59:12of their
00:59:13technology
00:59:13going
00:59:14absolutely
00:59:14so you're
00:59:15here at
00:59:15VivaTech
00:59:16so much
00:59:17you were
00:59:17here in
00:59:18this session
00:59:18but I'm
00:59:19sure you'll
00:59:19have some
00:59:20time to
00:59:20walk around
00:59:21what are the
00:59:21other things
00:59:22you're kind of
00:59:22looking forward
00:59:23to in front
00:59:25of us
00:59:25now
00:59:26oh well
00:59:27as a kid
00:59:28I went
00:59:29past the
00:59:29drones over
00:59:30there
00:59:30oh really
00:59:31yes
00:59:31and so I
00:59:32want one
00:59:32of them
00:59:32for Christmas
00:59:33but I
00:59:33think you
00:59:34know I
00:59:34was over
00:59:34in the
00:59:35other hall
00:59:35and I
00:59:35saw the
00:59:36sports
00:59:36technology
00:59:36there's a
00:59:37lot of
00:59:37different
00:59:38technology
00:59:38that we're
00:59:38going to
00:59:39obviously
00:59:39look and
00:59:40explore
00:59:40but I
00:59:41think the
00:59:42partnership
00:59:42we have
00:59:42of Enterprise
00:59:43Island is
00:59:43really about
00:59:44promoting
00:59:45Irish
00:59:45technology
00:59:46and the
00:59:47program we've
00:59:48got which
00:59:49has been
00:59:49developed across
00:59:50a number of
00:59:50different areas
00:59:51Enterprise
00:59:52Island works
00:59:52with us
00:59:53to help
00:59:53horizon scan
00:59:54and understand
00:59:55where the
00:59:55future
00:59:55problems are
00:59:56and then
00:59:57from that
00:59:57we begin
00:59:58to match
00:59:58Irish
00:59:59technology
00:59:59to some
01:00:00of the
01:00:00problems
01:00:00we've
01:00:00got
01:00:00which
01:00:01allows
01:00:01us
01:00:02to
01:00:02move
01:00:02forward
01:00:03my role
01:00:04in some
01:00:04ways
01:00:05is looking
01:00:05about how
01:00:06technology
01:00:06is going
01:00:07to evolve
01:00:07in the next
01:00:0710 years
01:00:08so we've
01:00:09got to be
01:00:09in front
01:00:09of the
01:00:10cycles
01:00:10of change
01:00:11and that's
01:00:12really how
01:00:12we work
01:00:13with Irish
01:00:13you say
01:00:14that I
01:00:14guess
01:00:15that's
01:00:15one of the
01:00:17biggest
01:00:17challenges
01:00:18right
01:00:18so almost
01:00:18like
01:00:19crystal ball
01:00:20looking into
01:00:20the future
01:00:21looking to
01:00:21see what
01:00:22will change
01:00:23places like
01:00:24this
01:00:24this helps
01:00:25I'm sure
01:00:25conversations
01:00:26you have
01:00:26as well
01:00:27but I guess
01:00:28as I say
01:00:28quite a big
01:00:28challenge
01:00:29on your plate
01:00:30for the future
01:00:31it certainly is
01:00:32I mean Ireland
01:00:33at the moment
01:00:33is obviously
01:00:34ranked number
01:00:35one in the world
01:00:35and our view
01:00:36would be
01:00:37we want to
01:00:37try and stay
01:00:38in that ranking
01:00:38so we've got
01:00:39to keep
01:00:39looking to
01:00:40the future
01:00:40look for
01:00:41new innovation
01:00:42and new
01:00:42technology
01:00:42that's going
01:00:43to help
01:00:43us in that
01:00:44space
01:00:44finally
01:00:45world cup
01:00:47I can
01:00:47guess
01:00:48I can
01:00:48imagine
01:00:48who you'd
01:00:49like to
01:00:49win
01:00:49I can
01:00:50imagine
01:00:50who you
01:00:51want to
01:00:51win
01:00:51but give
01:00:53us your
01:00:53quick perspective
01:00:54on who you
01:00:54think will
01:00:55win
01:00:55well I'm
01:00:56going to be
01:00:57very
01:00:57I'm going to
01:00:57have a lot
01:00:57of diplomacy
01:00:58in answering
01:00:58that question
01:00:59the first
01:01:00thing it's
01:01:00great to have
01:01:01the world
01:01:01cup back in
01:01:02France
01:01:02from 2007
01:01:04and I'm
01:01:05really looking
01:01:05forward to get
01:01:05across to some
01:01:06of the games
01:01:06I think the
01:01:07highlight of the
01:01:08games is going
01:01:09to be the
01:01:09quarterfinals
01:01:09where Ireland
01:01:10will either
01:01:11play France
01:01:12or New Zealand
01:01:12and that in
01:01:13some ways is
01:01:14an unofficial
01:01:15final but
01:01:17Ireland will
01:01:17be entering
01:01:18the world
01:01:18cup in the
01:01:19number one
01:01:19position and
01:01:20we hope the
01:01:20team performances
01:01:21will carry us
01:01:21all the way
01:01:22through to the
01:01:22end
01:01:22absolutely
01:01:23listen thanks
01:01:23for your
01:01:24time lovely
01:01:24talking to
01:01:24you ladies
01:01:25and gentlemen
01:01:25hands together
01:01:26for Scott
01:01:27Walker
01:01:27thank you so
01:01:28much
01:01:30right I
01:01:31believe I
01:01:32believe we
01:01:33have we
01:01:33actually have
01:01:34the trophy
01:01:35over there
01:01:36it's coming
01:01:36forward I
01:01:37believe that's
01:01:38right it's
01:01:38coming forward
01:01:39it's going
01:01:40to come
01:01:40forward right
01:01:41now I'm
01:01:42going to get
01:01:42it right
01:01:42now there
01:01:44we are
01:01:45this may
01:01:46look heavy
01:01:47well no it
01:01:48doesn't look
01:01:48heavy it
01:01:48doesn't look
01:01:49heavy no it's
01:01:49not heavy at
01:01:50all anyway
01:01:51which is that
01:01:52that's one of
01:01:52the great
01:01:52things doesn't
01:01:54look heavy
01:01:54feels very
01:01:55light but
01:01:56very very
01:01:57valuable let
01:01:58me tell you
01:01:58these last
01:01:59years I saw
01:02:01unfortunately
01:02:01well fortunately
01:02:02one of them
01:02:03sold on eBay
01:02:04for I'm not
01:02:05going to tell
01:02:05you how much
01:02:06but they are
01:02:07extremely valuable
01:02:08there we are
01:02:09right
01:02:09I believe
01:02:10we have a
01:02:12winner I
01:02:12don't know I
01:02:13clearly don't
01:02:14know I don't
01:02:15have an earpiece
01:02:16I have no idea
01:02:16who the winner
01:02:17is you don't
01:02:18either but I'll
01:02:19tell you what
01:02:20our jury members
01:02:21certainly do I'm
01:02:22going to invite
01:02:23back now one
01:02:23member of the
01:02:24jury to come and
01:02:25join me here
01:02:26right now thank
01:02:27you so much
01:02:51right ladies and
01:02:52gentlemen if you
01:02:53just join us this
01:02:54this is the final
01:02:55part of the
01:02:56enterprise island
01:02:58pitching competition
01:02:59and we have
01:03:00already heard six
01:03:01big ideas our
01:03:03jury members they've
01:03:04decided who the
01:03:04winner is we're
01:03:05going to find out
01:03:05very shortly who
01:03:07the winner is right
01:03:08now here we have
01:03:08on my right on my
01:03:09left hand side
01:03:10jury member together
01:03:11with Stephanie
01:03:12representing
01:03:13enterprise island as
01:03:14well tell us
01:03:16before you tell us
01:03:17who the winner is
01:03:18generally what was
01:03:19the feeling you
01:03:21had over the six
01:03:22big ideas we heard
01:03:23on stage so I'm
01:03:25going to talk on
01:03:26behalf of the other
01:03:28member of the jury
01:03:29it was definitely a
01:03:30very interesting set
01:03:31of pitches it was
01:03:33a very animated
01:03:35discussion I would
01:03:36say to find out the
01:03:37the winner because
01:03:39it was a tight
01:03:39contest for sure
01:03:41and and we're on
01:03:43different thing on
01:03:44on sport take
01:03:45basically so it was
01:03:46very interesting for
01:03:46interesting for you
01:03:48interesting for me
01:03:48and for many of us
01:03:49here sport tech
01:03:50putting them together
01:03:51coming up with some
01:03:52fantastic you'll agree
01:03:53with me some really
01:03:54fantastic ideas
01:03:55whoever the winner
01:03:56is I'm not going to
01:03:57say it's irrelevant
01:03:58it is relevant because
01:03:59they're a winner
01:04:00however the other
01:04:01five ideas again
01:04:02you like what you've
01:04:03heard you're curious
01:04:04you'd like to know

01:04:06with them treat them
01:04:08to coffee and a
01:04:09croissant around the
01:04:09corner and and see
01:04:11where you can come up
01:04:12with maybe potential
01:04:13collaborations or even
01:04:14more conversations
01:04:15right let's hear
01:04:16who the winner is
01:04:18so after a long
01:04:20debate we have
01:04:20decided for head
01:04:22diagnostics the
01:04:23the winner
01:04:26head diagnostics
01:04:27come on come on

01:04:39feeling as as this
01:04:40winner
01:04:43obviously delighted I
01:04:44think the field is
01:04:45extremely competitive
01:04:46so I think it just
01:04:47speaks to what
01:04:49enterprise Ireland are
01:04:50doing for enterprise
01:04:50in Ireland that we're
01:04:52so delighted to have
01:04:53won this award so

01:04:58ladies and gentlemen
01:04:59that is the end
01:05:00unfortunately that is
01:05:01the end of enterprise
01:05:02Ireland pitching
01:05:03competition giving you
01:05:04a flavor of some of
01:05:06the best some of the
01:05:07creme de la creme some
01:05:08the great ideas
01:05:08coming out of Ireland
01:05:09again showcasing that
01:05:11but ultimately this is
01:05:13all about the
01:05:13conversations again
01:05:14you're curious you
01:05:15like what you've heard
01:05:16and take them for a
01:05:17I always say coffee

01:05:21conversations go
01:05:22forward ladies and
01:05:22gentlemen what we're
01:05:23going to do now is
01:05:24take a very very
01:05:25short break of a
01:05:26couple of minutes and
01:05:27then we move over to
01:05:29our next pitching
01:05:30competition which takes
01:05:31us literally from
01:05:32Ireland across the
01:05:34other side of the
01:05:35world right over to
01:05:36the best ideas coming
01:05:38out of Taiwan so join
