00:00Je suis venu par Denis Therrien, qui va me rejoindre en face.
00:04Hello Denis, il est le CEO, Southie MBA, de Salesforce.
00:08Please donnez-moi un round of applause.
00:12Denis, merci beaucoup pour être avec nous.
00:15Nous avons été ensemble l'année dernière, et nous allons faire le même exercice ensemble.
00:21Are we going to have les mêmes questions?
00:23Nous allons avoir différents questions, thankfully.
00:26I mean, I worked a little bit and I changed my questions ahead of time.
00:31But Denis, let's start with our first question that we ask every CEO on this stage.
00:35How will innovation and new technology impact your outlook by 2030?
00:41Right, so if we can see the major changes that the world is facing today, we're not going to go
00:46back.
00:47We see a challenge in democracy and we see the world not being in one world anymore.
00:52That is not going to change.
00:55Since COVID, we see that people now don't want to spend the whole time at the office.
01:00They want to spend the time at home and on the move, the office.
01:04So we are in a flexible workplace and that is not going to change.
01:08We see that the way you relate to your customers is much more digital as well.
01:13And that is not going to change.
01:15So we are in a brand new world.
01:18The world of yesterday is not the same as today.
01:20And it is our responsibility to help move into that world.
01:25So for the three challenges that we see, we have answers.
01:28As an example, people want to work in flexible areas.
01:32So we created a digital headquarter.
01:35Instead of having one headquarter where you recruit people and they come and work,
01:39we have a digital headquarter and that is called Slack.
01:43This is why we acquired Slack.
01:44Slack is an amazing tool to increase engagement by all your team by 20 to 30%.
01:51If you look at the challenges we have with the ecology, we also created a, you know, you can change
01:58what you measure.
01:59So we created a cloud that helped people measure the impact on the climate, which is called Net Zero Cloud.
02:05And that will help go from one world to the other.
02:10Lastly, this is our, you know, one of our major strengths is if we go to a digital world, you
02:16need to understand your customer wherever you have the touch point.
02:21And it's a 360 degree customer platform that we also offer to all our customers.
02:27But this is on the customer and employee side.
02:31We also have a responsibility on the world because we believe that you shouldn't just do well, you should also
02:39do good.
02:41And for that, as an example, we give all our tools for free to NGOs and schools.
02:48That's pretty impressive, Denis.
02:50So for years, there has been much talk of digital transformation and especially artificial intelligence.
02:57We spoke about that before coming on stage.
03:00What would you, would be one technology you would bet on to revolutionize your business, Denis?
03:06All right.
03:06So AI exists, it is there.
03:09We cannot go against.
03:10For example, yesterday, Salesforce had 164 billions prediction.
03:19164 billion prediction with AI.
03:22This is what Salesforce did yesterday.
03:24So the challenge is not what is AI?
03:27You're not should be with it or not.
03:29The challenge is, do you build trust with the data?
03:33And this is where we, this is our, you know, this is where we, this is the issue.
03:38So at Salesforce, trust is our first value.
03:41And how we build this, you know, we build this by, you know, sharing publicly how, for example, our servers
03:47work.
03:48We also share publicly, you know, where our customers want to put the data.
03:54If they want to put it in Europe, in the US, in Asia.
03:56So we've built a technology which is called Hyperforce, where customers can choose to have the data for people that
04:03are European here, within Europe, located there, and only seen by European, which is very important for some, from elements.
04:11So this is how we build trust with our customers.
04:14We also need to build trust, you know, with our stakeholders.
04:18And this is why, actually, it was created five years ago, the, you know, the Committee of Ethics within the
04:26company that looks at data all the time.
04:29And how we measure and how we use the data.
04:32So for us, trust is paramount to AI.
04:35Thank you, Denis.
04:37So we cannot go ahead without talking about the COVID-19 crisis, which is, which has impacted all of us,
04:43which has impacted Salesforce, many companies around the world.
04:47And we've seen, truly, an evolution of the workplace.
04:51Just a few words on the future of work at Salesforce.
04:54So, as I mentioned before, you know, we believe on the digital headquarters, and this is what talents want.
05:03We also look that there's a phenomenal talent war.
05:07And in order to address that, we should answer to the needs and the wishes of employees.
05:14This is why our digital headquarters with Slack helps, but also what it is we do to train the whole
05:21ecosystem around us.
05:23We have measured that we'll create, by 2026, 9 million jobs.
05:29In France alone, there's 211,000 jobs.
05:32By training them.
05:33And what we need is to train those people to reskill some current talent, because those are not just going
05:41to be young engineers or business people that come out of school.
05:44We also have a strong commitment in helping retrain people at companies with platforms such as Trailhead that we've had.
05:53And we find that we have a lot of success in doing so.
05:57I was in South Africa two weeks ago, and what we did, we took about 150 people from the street,
06:04right?
06:05We chose 100, trained them, and in three months, all of them had a job.
06:09That was in South Africa.
06:11I was in Greece a month ago, and here we were talking to the largest energy company.
06:16And they say, we have a lot of people that used to install framework and stuff, and we don't know
06:21what to do with them.
06:22So let's retrain them in Salesforce, and we give them a new job for the next 10 to 15 years.
06:29And, you know, in the post-pandemic world, and you said it just a few minutes ago, we've talked about
06:36climate, we've talked about social responsibility, and I know this is very important.
06:41At Salesforce, I've attended many of your events, and I know this is one of your key messages here.
06:46How can innovation in your company and in the industry enable positive change, I would say, Denis?
06:53Right.
06:54So we believe that values create value.
06:59Without values, you will not create value, and there will be nothing to distribute.
07:03So first and foremost, we have very, very strong values that we believe that help us make decisions.
07:10And those values are trust, number one, customer success, number two, innovation, number three, equality, number four, and sustainability, number
07:18five.
07:19In that order, so we make the decisions with those values.
07:24Second thing we invented 20 years ago, and that was even before me, right?
07:29That's the invention of Mark Benioff, what is called the 1-1-1 model.
07:33The 1-1-1 model is how you have a positive impact on the world.
07:37You give 1% of your equity, and that's great.
07:41A lot of people do it.
07:43You give also about 1% of your products.
07:46As I said earlier, all schools and universities can have our products for free.
07:53And you also give 1% of your time to do good.
07:57That means that every employee within Salesforce has spent about one hour a week working for NGOs.
08:05And that was started 20 years ago.
08:07So, where are we today?
08:10The great thing is that over 15,000 companies have adopted this 1-1-1 model.
08:17And we're very, very happy because the more companies adopt this model, the more positive impact we're going to have
08:22on the world.
08:22The second thing is, if we are to measure it, it's over half a billion that have been given already,
08:31half a billion dollars.
08:32It's over 50,000 NGOs that have our products for free.
08:38And it's, what is the number exactly?
08:406.5 million hours that have been given by our employees to NGOs.
08:46Thank you so much, Denis.
08:48And it's time now for On My Watch.
08:57So, Denis, I know you've invited a special someone.
09:00She ran and she arrived on stage before I announced her.
09:04Thank you so much, Yael, for being with us.
09:06So, I know that you talk about the Salesforce culture a lot, Denis.
09:11This is very important.
09:13I know you even have a name for your family, which is the Oana, which is in Hawaii, how you
09:19say family.
09:19Is that right, Denis?
09:21Yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:21You know, one of the things that I'm the most proud at Salesforce is that we are named among the
09:27top great place to work in every single country we're in.
09:31That means that it doesn't rely on a leader.
09:33It doesn't rely on the leader of the U.S. or France or the U.K.
09:35It relies on everything which is done around.
09:38And, you know, we were number one great place to work in France, number one great place to work in
09:42Spain, number three in Italy, number three in Ireland.
09:45And for that, there are a lot of amazing things that are done.
09:48I'm not going to talk about it.
09:50I've asked Yael, who is our senior director for Employee Success, to come and share with us how we do
09:56that.
09:57Thank you.
09:58And, yes, I came in advance because I know that we have a lot of things to share.
10:02We needed you on stage, Yael.
10:05Thank you.
10:06Yeah.
10:08Everything that's mentioned, Denis, earlier is part of the culture and the values of Salesforce.
10:13And I think this is exactly the reason why and the secret sauce of why Salesforce used to be a
10:21great place to work.
10:22So if I can just maybe share different elements, just to share how we make that happen, I think the
10:28first element is the symmetry of attention.
10:30So we strongly believe that if our employees are happy, then the customer will be happy, and this is important
10:37for us to make that happen.
10:38And how do we make that happen?
10:40We try to work on different elements.
10:42The first one is the work environment.
10:44We know that post-pandemics, we have the freedom to come back to the office or not, and we really
10:51want to create moments that matter, that encourage our people to come.
10:55And then we are creating and we are investing in our offices to make sure that they are more collaborative,
11:02more fun, and also more flexible.
11:04And flexibility is a very key thing today.
11:09So on the flexibility, we have created also what I would say, and we are experimenting some new way of
11:17managing our employees.
11:19And just to give you some ideas, we made no meeting on Friday, which is one of the initiatives we
11:26have worked on.
11:27And just a little bit more, we are experimenting right now what we are calling asynchronous week, meaning during one
11:36week, you don't have any meetings.
11:37You are focused on what you have to do, and then you are sharing with Slack all the progress you
11:43are making and all the needs, the help you can ask.
11:46And this is amazing, so we are working a lot on the result of this experimentation, and I will be
11:53pleased to share more later.
11:55Another element, maybe just to come back, is the engagement model, the 1-1-1, just to explain.
12:01And I think it's important because we think that if our employees are engaged, then they will be more happy.
12:09And this is exactly what we have in our team, and we mentioned the VTO's hours, so the volunteering time
12:15that our people are using, and this is increasing year after year.
12:19So I think this is another one.
12:21And the last one is very strong relative to our values, which is equality, and we want to live in
12:29the world and in the society.
12:32We want to look like the society we are living in.
12:35And this is important, and this is why we are making a lot of focus on equal pay and to
12:42improve the benefits for our employees.
12:44And, for example, we are giving more time for them to take care of their children, to be on family
12:50care if needed, and to spend the time, and to focus on what is really, really important for them.
12:55I think these are some examples and pragmatics.
12:58And the no-meeting week will definitely help on that, I would say.
13:03Thank you so much, Yann, for sharing that with us.
13:05It's time for question time.
13:08Let's go.
13:15And, Denis, I won't be asking this question, but you will have a special guest on video who will be
13:22asking that question.
13:23It's Jonas Preising, CEO of Manpower Group.
13:27Let's watch.
13:30Hello, Denis.
13:31This is Jonas Preising, CEO of Manpower Group.
13:34And my question to you is, how do you think technology will accelerate your ESG strategy?
13:44All right, Jonas.
13:46I'll ask you another one afterwards, right?
13:49So what is ESG?
13:51It's ecology, societal, and governance.
13:54So let's look at how technology affects the three.
13:57The first one is ecology is sustainability.
14:00So I mentioned earlier that we are adamant to being a sustainable company.
14:06We are net zero.
14:08We have zero impact on the climate today, and we only use sustainable energy.
14:14How we do this?
14:15We've been measuring our impact on the climate for many years through our net zero cloud.
14:22So we've used it, and now we offer that tool to any company as well that want to do it.
14:27We were successful at having zero impact on the world.
14:31And on top of that, we also created and joined the One Trillion Tree Program,
14:35which is we commit with other partners to plant over one trillion tree over 10 years.
14:42Salesforce committed to 100 million.
14:44In two years, we've planted 43 million trees.
14:48But it's not just planting it.
14:50It's ensuring that they're able to grow as well.
14:52So that's on the E side.
14:54What do we do on the societal side?
14:57As you have heard, we are committed to do good.
15:01We are a purpose-driven company.
15:03So we have a responsibility to help the whole world move into the digital world,
15:09and also to reduce the digital gap.
15:13And we do this with many programs.
15:15One of them is our Trailhead program.
15:18We've created a tool that anybody can use to help themselves train.
15:23I'll take the example of Frédéric Mermoz, who maybe you've met.
15:28Yeah, I did.
15:29So for 10 years, she was in the communication place, and she had a change in life.
15:35She decided that she couldn't work in communication anymore.
15:39She decided to get trained alone on Trailhead.
15:45And for the last 10 years, she's become a solution architect,
15:49helping customers in a move into the digital world.
15:53Frédéric is an example of how digital can help you,
15:57or how Trailhead go into the next world.
15:59But we have thousands and thousands and thousands of this.
16:03And this is our commitment to helping scale or rescale the current community.
16:10And again, just the numbers, as I shared, you know,
16:13France alone, 200,000 new jobs the next four years,
16:19and in the world, 9 million.
16:21This is what we're committed to help being built.
16:24Thank you so much, Denis.
16:26And you have the last one.
16:27The last one is the G.
16:27No, the last one is the G, so E is G.
16:30So G is governance.
16:31So within my, you know, I have a fixed part and a variable part.
16:36Within my variable part, some elements of it, of course,
16:40is in, you know, normal KPIs, key performance indicator on sales and profit.
16:46Another one is how much we work on diversity.
16:49And we have, for example, some very, very strict quota on diversity.
16:54And if we are not able to achieve it,
16:56then we do not get the full amount of our variable pay.
17:00So this is how you put the ESG within the governance as well.
17:04And that kind of calibrates with whatever Yael was saying just ahead of time.
17:09Thank you so much, Yitu, for your great insight.
17:11I was so glad to have you on stage.
17:13I know we do this every year, but it's also always very enriching and very interesting.
17:19So thank you so much for taking a bit of your time to give those tips to the audience
17:24because you're the best place to work, I would say again.
17:26Thank you so much.
17:27And now it's time for the next session of CEO Stories with my colleague, Elie.
17:31Thank you.
17:32Thank you.
