Two different weather systems will have effects on different parts of Northeast Friday night and Sunday night, as AccuWeather's Geoff Cornish explains.
Transcript
00:00The snow's still falling for some and the deeper blues here. Earlier this afternoon we had a burst
00:05of some light accumulations into areas near Binghamton, New York. We have had reports of
00:107, 8, 9 inches of snow in the past 24 to 36 hours up in parts of Vermont, New Hampshire.
00:15Great ski
00:16conditions there for that crowd and we are pretty cold right now. Temps still a little bit below
00:22the historical average for this time of the year but we're at 33 in Boston and New York. Typically
00:26around this time of the year you see highs in the low 40s in DC. You're near 40 in New
00:32York and Philly
00:32and Boston would be in the upper 30s and we're going to climb up above some of those numbers in
00:37the next few days. Not necessarily tomorrow but we're going to be at least warmer than we were.
00:4022 right now in Burlington and Syracuse. Pretty nippy there but look at Louisville. 46, a sign of
00:46change and while tomorrow will be a chilly day, somewhat cold in the interior, it'll be a lot
00:52warmer than we were a week or two ago. And we're going to be watching for a disturbance that scoots
00:57through the northeast here on Friday night, late at night through Saturday. It begins here across
01:03the Great Lakes region in southern Ontario Friday evening. It spills in across upstate New York and
01:09northern Pennsylvania. Here we are late Friday night, 1 a.m. Saturday, snow in the Poconos, the
01:13Catskills moving into the lower Hudson Valley through New York City on really technically early
01:19Saturday morning. Most of us may consider 3, 4 in the morning, late Friday night or early early
01:23Saturday morning. And then that system scoots offshore followed by a little bit of a kind of
01:28a caboose there up to the north with a little bit of light snow into Vermont, New Hampshire.
01:32So areas in the deeper blue here, you're going to see several hours of snow late Friday night,
01:38maybe late evening near Lake Ontario and then through the overnight hours down into Connecticut,
01:43western Massachusetts. And then just as quickly as it moves in, it's out of here on Saturday.
01:48Saturday morning may begin with a few leftover flurries or snow showers in New York City or
01:52Hartford. But overall, the balance of the day Saturday will be quieter. And then Sunday,
01:57we begin to turn our attention to the southern storm. And you can see that we'll be sending some
02:02rain to Kentucky and West Virginia, parts of Virginia. In the high ground, we may see a little
02:07bit of snow mixed in. Most of us will have a chilly day on Sunday. And by the numbers, Sunday,
02:12we're still going to be in the 20s and 30s to the north here. 35 in Portland, 34 in Boston,
02:17very close to the historical average for this time of the year there. Similar story in New York,
02:21mostly cloudy, 41. Harrisburg, rain-snow mix moves in. We got soaking rain and very warm weather,
02:28though, into Pittsburgh. Look at that. If you're west of the mountains, it's going to be a warmer,
02:31warmer time on Sunday. And then we'll have some showers roll into D.C. and Richmond. So this system
02:37is coming in two chunks here. The main storm is down into areas southwest of California.
02:42But this subtle disturbance south of the Aleutian Islands, that could play a role in steering this
02:49system. And if it contorts the jet stream just enough, it could draw an area of snow on Sunday
02:55night, Monday morning, up into the Poconos and into southern Connecticut. But most likely it stays a
03:00little farther south.
