00:00Francisco Lindor will undergo evaluation tomorrow, that's Wednesday, for a potential
00:05stress reaction in the hammock bone in his left hand that could necessitate surgery.
00:10Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns made that announcement today during
00:15his initial press conference of spring training. If Lindor does need the surgery, recovery
00:21time is about six weeks, which would put him right up against opening day. Stearns says
00:26he's optimistic that Lindor would be ready for the opener if he needs the surgery. Lindor
00:32has been dealing with the hammock bone issue for a couple of seasons, according to Stearns,
00:37and he's kind of grinded through it, but now at the point where he decided it needs to
00:41be addressed. So that valuation by a hand specialist will come tomorrow. If Lindor isn't ready to
00:49begin the season, Stearns wouldn't say what the plan is yet at shortstop. Obviously, Bo
00:55Bichette is here, who's played extensively at the position, but he's also the team's new
01:01third baseman. So maybe the Mets wouldn't want to go that route, kind of move people around
01:07there. You also have Ronnie Mauricio's back here can play shortstop. Some of the infield
01:13depth was lost over the winter with Luis Angel Acuna traded to the White Sox. But we'll know
01:21more tomorrow after Lindor has that evaluation by a hand specialist on the hammock bone and
01:29if he needs surgery.
