A comprehensive review is expected to be carried out into Tobago's Carnival when the event is taken before the Executive Council of the Tobago House of Assembly.

That's the word from Tourism Secretary Zorisha Hackett.

She spoke with TV6's Elizabeth Williams at the Ash Wednesday Cool Down at the Pigeon Point Heritage Park.
Transcript
00:00The parade of the bands, you know, we really hoped that the bands would have come out earlier.
00:04And that's always a challenge, the fact that the bands would be rode so late in the evening.
00:08And those were the elements that we were very concerned about, especially with the Tobago Cannibal here on the horizon.
00:14And so we want to sit as an executive council and reassess, you know, where we are with this February
00:19-March Cannibal,
00:20the national Trinidad and Tobago Cannibal, sit with our task force that we had in place since September last year.
00:26And just reassess and re-evaluate and come up with, you know, a strategy that will, you know,
00:31see where we are as a people, as an island, as it relates to these two products that we now
00:36have on any given calendar.
00:38TV6 News caught up with Secretary Hackett and her team at Pigeon Point Beach on Wednesday.
00:44On Tuesday, there was a late showing of Tobago's parade of the bands,
00:48with the first band crossing the judging point in Scarborough shortly before 3 p.m.
00:54Secretary Hackett said all was not lost, as some events attracted thousands.
01:00So Liz, right before the Cannibal, we sat at an executive council and we spoke to more or less working
01:07the things that we know work for us.
01:08We understand that in the Tobago space, the promotion of kiddies, juve, culture and modern were the prominent features of
01:16our Cannibal that we needed to promote.
01:17And those were the features that actually had the engagement and interest of the public of Tobago.
01:22And so we saw the participation.
01:24We saw the crowds, you know, getting into the streets of Scarborough on Cannibal Tuesday for the mudmass.
01:30In Roxburgh, Cannibal Monday night for the mud again.
01:33And the three juvies were successful, I would say.
01:36Hackett said Tobago is being promoted as a rest and reflection island after carnival.
01:42So the great escape is what we dubbed the carnival period here in Tobago, even before we had the actual
01:48carnival, you know, taking place.
01:50And so as Wednesday we're here in Pigeon Point, the epic experience is actually on the way there.
01:55We had a beautiful day here and I'm certain that other beaches in Tobago saw an influx of visitors.
02:00And not only the beaches, all are natural attractions across the island.
02:05But this type of persons coming into the space and enjoying what Tobago has to offer.
02:09Hundreds of tourists were observed at Pigeon Point enjoying the sun, sea and sand.
02:17The magnificent brilliance of the seas made her inaugural visit to Tobago on Wednesday, arriving with approximately 1,700 passengers.
02:27Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
