Plans are well underway to showcase the diversification of Tobago's tourism thrust at the inaugural Caribbean Cuisine Showdown at the scenic Buccoo Historical and Nature Park in 2026.

The event is scheduled to take place on May 30 and 31, and according to the organizers it's promising to do more than wet your appetite. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:08The two-day event is expected to be an exciting and enriching celebration of Tobago's culinary traditions.

00:22where talented chefs from various Caribbean countries will go head-to-head.
00:27They will showcase the very best of their nation's culinary creations, vying for the coveted title of Caribbean Cuisine Showdown Champion.
00:38The event was launched on Friday and will be held under the theme, The Flavors That Blends Us Together.
00:45With an aim to unite local, regional and international participants,
00:49Caribbean Cuisine Showdown will bring together chefs, food enthusiasts, local farmers and tourists
00:57to celebrate the rich culinary traditions of the Caribbean
01:01and seeks to showcase the diversity, creativity, sustainability and depth of Caribbean cuisine.
01:09Anyway, so Tobago, Jamaica, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Grenada, Barbados, Guyana, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba.
01:18Tourism Secretary Tasha Baris, who was also present during the launch,
01:23said food is one of the largest growing sectors in the tourism industry.
01:27One of the things that we have to get on board with is saying to people that the tourism sector is not just about hotels.
01:36It's not just about making beds. It's not just about front desk.
01:39It's not just about waitressing in a bar.
01:41There are so many opportunities that are available for persons to be in a sector where their passions could come alive.
01:50Organizers say the event would be a unique opportunity to support local businesses promoting sustainable agriculture
01:58and enhancing Tobago's tourism appeal in the Caribbean.
