00:00Golfers from as young as 10 all the way up to the seasoned age of 80 and above took part in the Ladies Amateur Golf Open at the St. Andrews Golf Course on the weekend.
00:11The tournament also featured overseas players. It's a competition that continues to grow according to Ladies Captain of the St. Andrews Golf Club, Elizabeth Lawrence.
00:19We've been hosting this tournament over 34 years and we're very pleased to have AIB and Cardia coming as our full-time sponsor for the event.
00:29This year we have eight overseas players from Suriname and Curacao. We were supposed to have 11 but as I said things happened and two had three had to cancel.
00:40We, in Trinidad and Tobago, we're the only Ladies Club to host a Ladies event in all flights and this year we had four flights carrying you up to a handicap of 45.
00:51They are trying to encourage participation.
00:53What we're trying to do is really encourage ladies to come and play golf in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:59So when you have, when you go to 45, it really encourages, it doesn't matter where you are, you know, it encourages ladies to come and play and enjoy the game.
01:08Well, when the dust settled, the winners were presented with their awards.
01:12In the first flight, Isabella Ramdin and Jada Charles took away top honors.
01:16In the second flight, Joanne Bryden and Nancy Douglas dominated proceedings.
01:22In the third flight, Camille Rupnerine was on top and in the fourth, Cherry Alonzo had the biggest smile of them all for taking the win.
01:30Speaking on behalf of the main sponsor, Executive Director of Agostini Insurance Brokers, Mark Henderson, says they were pleased with the flow of the competition.
01:39Well, we feel very proud to sponsor the event.
01:42We have been sponsoring our own golf tournament in the past, ladies golf tournament for over 40 years.
01:47But this year, we decided to sponsor the Ladies Open instead of our one that we normally have in October previously for the past 40 years.
01:55So we're very proud to come on board with the Ladies Open.
01:58And I think it turned out very well.
02:00I mean, the weather's been perfect.
02:01We've gotten overseas participants and, you know, we like to promote competitive golf amongst the ladies because they can never have enough tournaments of this type to really promote the game.
02:11So we're very proud about what we've done.
02:13The event is expected to come around again next year.
