00:00by now it's known that trinidad and tobago will not be going to the 2026 fifa world cup
00:05however the feeling of disappointment still exists in the hearts of football fans
00:10former technical director of the trinidad and tobago football association dion lafuka believes
00:14it's a great opportunity that was missed obviously as a as a fan and also as a coach
00:20you're obviously disappointed um we want the best for our country and it's really really tough for
00:26trinidad not even the world cup i think it was the easiest time for us to get to a world cup just
00:30playing having to play caribbean countries so i'm really really sad that we're not there we're not
00:34going to when we go into the 2026 world cup the football coach believes that the national team
00:39did not make it to the world cup largely because they were not scoring goals moving forward he
00:45thinks that there will be a challenge to capitalize on the grandparent law as they aim to find a way
00:50to put the best team together i'm only looking from the outside just to see where they went wrong i think
00:54one of the things that was kind of obvious is that they won't scoring goals you know the team is
00:58playing well but at the end of the day playing well also means scoring goals so we're not put we're
01:02not putting the ball away i think that's one of the things that we have to focus on and also getting
01:07the basics right you know so i think it's tough you know we have talented players and now it's with
01:12the grandparent rule we're getting even more players um coming in but it's a question of can we get
01:18all those players being cohesive and representing the country in the gold cup you know world cup qualifiers
01:24what about head coach dwight york what should be next for him in terms of coaching you know
01:29obviously dwight's a fantastic player in terms of coaching he's learning as he's going along as he's
01:35going along i've had some chats with him very very wants to do well as a coach and wants to move on
01:40and and do well in coaching so i think the future as well for him once he continues with it you know
01:45take the knocks it's part of coaching you're going to get criticized but once you believe in yourself
01:49and what you're doing and you you grow and then one of the things that dwight has as an advantage
01:54you know playing for manchester united and knowing some of the best coaches in the world he can spend
01:58a lot of time being mentored by these coaches i think that's going to work out well for him
