00:00The Chutni Soka Monarch took off on Sunday night at Skinner Park, with a total of 14 contestants all trying to come out on top.
00:10This included Master Salim, who's set transitioned into a courthouse before reverting to the colorful dance.
00:18And Amar brothers, Rawi Tee, Ramroop and Lord Nelson. The latter proving that sometimes age is just a number.
00:30La la la la. All you sing it louder.
00:332025 National Chutni Soka Monarch champion Marshall Montano was the man to beat.
00:38Music and spirit come to the stage. Feel like freedom. When we hear speed drums.
00:47It's an incredible feeling that represents wheelhouse.
00:50And that occurred with a twist that perhaps many didn't see coming, as it was Savita Singh who walked away as the new CSM champion 2026.
00:59Singh, who performed her song, The Ring, scored a total of 813 points and became the first woman in the 31 years of the show to comp the title.
01:20She closed her performance with an arguably daring stunt.
01:24My name is Savita. Savita Singh. I love you, Skinner Park.
01:33Walking away in second place with 673 points was Rasika Dindial with her song, Pong Damadol.
01:57In addition, Dindial was crowned Traditional Mana, which was a new title added to this year's competition.
02:12Meanwhile, Lady Lava captured third place scoring 651 points with her song, Kya Pik, which entailed an energetic performance alongside Ravi B.
02:22Montano ended up taking fourth place.
02:41According to South X, the promoters of the CSM, it was the first time the event was held on a Sunday.
02:47And according to them, it attracted one of the largest crowds ever at Skinner Park.
02:52South X adds that the show went on longer than anticipated due to the complex set designs by many of the performers on the night.
02:59Singh's win has drawn skepticism and even criticism from some social media users who expressed sentiments,
03:06including that her song wasn't among the popular ones in the lead-up to the finals.
