00:01Welcome to Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
00:04The ultimate renovation showdown.
00:06Whose idea was this?
00:08Come on, mine.
00:09Take him here, Marie.
00:11Over four thrilling weeks, creativity meets competition.
00:14That looks wicked, doesn't it?
00:16Perfect fit. Oh, my gosh.
00:18As determined duos battle it out to prove.
00:21Yay!
00:22I'm having an absolute nightmare.
00:23They've got the vision, skill and grit to win the ultimate prize.
00:26I haven't got a clue.
00:28I can cry. I can literally cry.
00:30The keys to this breathtaking French property.
00:34Set on the outskirts of a Normandy nature park,
00:38the property boasts six bedrooms, four bathrooms,
00:42two salons, five additional rooms to renovate,
00:46perfectly pruned gardens, stunning outbuildings,
00:49its very own orchard and even a historic bread oven.
00:53It's a lot to play for.
00:55And if we lose, I'll be fuming.
00:57Three heats and a grand finale where only the best will rise.
01:01Oh!
01:03All the pairs have to do is show they have the renovation know-how
01:07to impress me and various guest judges from Chateau DIY.
01:10I think this is really creative.
01:13What a transformation.
01:15In weekly challenges designed to push their creativity and skills to the limit.
01:19The clock is ticking!
01:21Win the week and they secure their spot in the grand finale.
01:25The dream is real, the stakes are high.
01:27This is Chateau DIY Win the Dream.
01:29Previously on Win the Dream.
01:43Never danced with a headboard before.
01:45The pairs took to the bedroom.
01:47Oh, wow!
01:48It's so nice, isn't it?
01:49It's lovely!
01:50Look at that.
01:51And while the colour consensus was clear...
01:53Like a duck egg blue.
01:54Duck egg blue.
01:55Like a nice pale Parisian-y blue.
01:58So committing to like a blue.
02:00Nell and Edward took it a shade too far.
02:03That looks incredibly darker.
02:05Oh, dear.
02:06Elizabeth and Sam leaned into their signature style.
02:09I'm going for Chateau chic.
02:11While Tata and Xavier brought their bed to life.
02:14Yeah, we're making a Franken bed.
02:16In the petite challenge, the pairs tackled cushions.
02:20Gosh, this is a terrible challenge.
02:22We don't know how to sew.
02:24But in the end...
02:25Nell and Edward.
02:26It was the Navies that had it all sewn up.
02:30Now, with just three days to go, the race to create chateau-worthy bedrooms is on.
02:41Game face.
02:42Come on.
02:43Go to the workshop.
02:44Game face.
02:45Okay, bye.
02:46Bye.
02:47While Nell continues colour-drenching the room...
02:49I am starting to feel a little bit blue.
02:52Edward's tackling my special request.
02:56Each pair must incorporate a hidden compartment in their bedroom.
02:59There we go.
03:00Okay, so there's going to be a floor which I fabricate to fit into this area.
03:12And then, using a piano hinge, this is going to lift up.
03:16And then, on this underside here, there'll be a mirror, and there'll be the Hollywood-style lights.
03:23When not in use, it's just a normal-looking chest of drawers.
03:27When you're having to do your hair and make-up, up it comes, revealing a full array of make-up, mirror and light to do it.
03:35That's the plan.
03:36I've just got to make it work now.
03:38I come from a very practical family.
03:43Dad was a fisherman, also in the military.
03:46So I've always been getting my hands dirty with things like that.
03:49I actually went to university to study engineering.
03:52I like working things out.
03:53I like figuring it out.
03:54I like making it a reality.
03:56It's always quite exciting, isn't it?
04:01After Dad left the military, for medical reasons, he ended up being paralysed.
04:05But he was always really hands-on, so whatever he was doing, I became his hands and feet.
04:10And I would do the actual physical work whilst Dad sort of supervised.
04:14And I would help him renovate properties and things like that.
04:17We tinkered on old cars.
04:19Everything, really.
04:20I think he'd be really proud if he saw us here, you know, doing this.
04:35It's not bad, is it?
04:38Yeah, nice and flush.
04:44As the only pair without a bed...
04:46I think the pressure is on, actually.
04:48This feels like make or break this.
04:50We need to find a bed in this brocancy.
04:52Sam's on a solo mission to the shops.
04:54I'm hoping he's going to come back and wow me with his choices.
04:59That's a nice jaguar, isn't it?
05:01That's good.
05:02I've just seen something really nice down here.
05:10Breakfast in the mornings in the guest room.
05:12Oh, the lizard loves these.
05:14I think they're called cicadas.
05:16They're in between a bee and a wasp.
05:18For keen birder Sam, his feathered friends are never far from his mind.
05:23There's really green finches in here.
05:25We've got seagulls, but not green finches.
05:32Back at the chateau, Liz's vision is finally taking shape.
05:36Yeah, I'm really happy with the colour.
05:38I love it.
05:40I think blue's a major theme, isn't it, for everybody?
05:43I'm hoping no-one else has done panelling.
05:47I haven't heard any nail guns.
05:49So that's quite positive.
05:51Unless they've glued it on.
06:00The good thing about using polystyrene beading
06:02is that I don't have to use a saw.
06:05So this is saving time, doing it this way.
06:07I know it doesn't look like it, but it is.
06:09Bonjour.
06:10Bonjour.
06:11Hello.
06:12How are we getting on?
06:13We're getting there.
06:14Panelling's going up.
06:15That's fun.
06:16It's going up, yes.
06:17Ooh, what's that made of?
06:18It's polystyrene.
06:19Oh, from a sustainability point of view, it makes me go a bit funny,
06:24but probably from a cost point of view.
06:26Yes, it's coming on budget, and it means that I can kind of cut it
06:29as I'm working around the room.
06:30That is annoyingly good, isn't it?
06:32Whilst it's not good for the planet, it's good for you, the design,
06:35the room, the budget, and everything else.
06:37Yeah.
06:38Exactly, yeah.
06:39We have to work within our means a little bit.
06:40I really want to hate it, though.
06:41Oh, it's going up.
06:42That's fun.
06:43It's going up, yes.
06:44Ooh, what's that made of?
06:45It's polystyrene.
06:46Oh, from a sustainability point of view, it makes me go a bit funny,
06:49but probably from a cost point of view.
06:50Yes, it's coming on budget, and it means that I can kind of cut it
06:52as I'm working around the room.
06:53That is annoyingly good, isn't it?
06:56So, as the challenge has gone on, do you see yourself living here?
07:01Is the dream becoming slightly real?
07:03Definitely.
07:04I think it's become more and more important to us
07:07the longer we've gone on.
07:08You know, we've become so invested, and we've really poured
07:11everything we have into it.
07:12Falling in love with it, I bet.
07:13And our eventual aim for the place is that we would get married out there.
07:17See all our friends and family here, and our little children
07:20running around, so it would be lovely.
07:22That would make me very happy.
07:25Good luck.
07:26See you later.
07:27Thanks.
07:28As Tasha and Xavier dream of a chateau lifestyle,
07:31Sam's still dreaming of finding a bed.
07:35This is more like it.
07:37It's an attic full of furniture.
07:40I'm already seeing something I quite like over here.
07:50That could be a really serious option, that.
07:52That is lovely, that.
07:53I'd like to do that one.
07:55Look at this mirror.
07:56Look at this mirror.
08:00And there's a mirror right by it, as well.
08:03I think that has been mission complete, that.
08:05We've got the bed, we've got a mirror.
08:07I'm going to seal the deal now.
08:0820, 80.
08:09Thank you very much.
08:10Thank you very much.
08:12Good restoration.
08:13Fantastic, yeah.
08:14Back at the chateau, both Xavier and Nel turn their attention to their bed canopies.
08:24This is our ciel de lis, which roughly translated is sky of the bed.
08:33So we've got all our angles cut, and they piece together a little like this,
08:38so you get this sort of semi-circle.
08:40And that goes above our bed, with curtains flowing from underneath it.
08:45It's very sort of traditional French.
08:47It's re-use of the side panels from the bed,
08:52which otherwise wouldn't have been thrown in the bin.
08:54Make sure we're using every last piece.
08:56So a bit of that, pray it holds, and that'll be on the wall.
09:00Just need to do it one, two, three more times.
09:04My plan is, so the bed's here.
09:07It's going to go like this.
09:10Up.
09:11There's going to be a roller there.
09:13It's going to hang.
09:15There's going to be a roller there.
09:16And it's going to come down.
09:18In my brain it makes sense.
09:20So I should be able to do it.
09:31Enter!
09:32Whoa!
09:33The blue team in the blue room with the...
09:36There's a lot of blue going on.
09:37There is a little bit of blue.
09:38There is a lot of blue.
09:39Oh, I wasn't expecting that.
09:41But there's blue everything.
09:42Yeah.
09:43Yeah.
09:44So talk to me about this fabric.
09:45What are we doing with it?
09:46I'm making a bed canopy.
09:48Castiel de Lis.
09:49Just to reiterate, you're putting fabric on the ceiling again.
09:52Once again.
09:53Yep.
09:54It's going to be our thing, I think.
09:55How much is this?
09:56Together, I spent 204 euros.
10:00That is a lot of money, isn't it?
10:02It is a lot of money.
10:03So for that, you've got the blue fabric we see here.
10:05Yeah.
10:06And what else?
10:07There is a handmade in France netting that doesn't look like a dust sheet.
10:13And if you say it looks like a dust sheet, I might cry.
10:16I don't need to tell you that looks like a certain something from challenge one, do I?
10:21Use your imagination.
10:25Stop.
10:26I'm going to leave you alone.
10:28Just watch that door because it is actually genuinely wet.
10:30Oh, don't touch the door.
10:31Don't touch the door.
10:32Don't touch the door.
10:33Bye.
10:34Last but not least.
10:39She's together.
10:40That is the CL dilly.
10:41Now I just need to go screw everything together in the room.
10:44Rightly, always right.
10:49Look at that.
10:51Is our first bit.
10:52So that's going to hang down on the front.
10:54Imagine I'm a pole.
10:55It's obviously going to look a bit nicer than this.
10:58One seam done.
10:59One pocket made.
11:00Two more pockets to go.
11:02Oh.
11:04Yay.
11:05Oh, wow.
11:06One CL dilly.
11:07It's lovely.
11:08Wow.
11:09It's so beautiful.
11:10I love all the detail.
11:12Yeah.
11:13It's scrubbed up quite well.
11:14Oh, it's so nice.
11:15And it's amazing because it matches the bed.
11:18I love it.
11:19Careful with your panelling, won't you?
11:20Oh, I won't touch your beloved panelling, my dear.
11:23Just about.
11:24Oh, look at that.
11:25Wow.
11:26I love it.
11:27I love it.
11:28I love it.
11:30It's looking good.
11:31It's coming together now.
11:32The vision is coming to life.
11:34Yes.
11:35Yes.
11:42It's straight back to the workshop for Xavier.
11:45And all three pairs are tackling their hidden storage compartments.
11:49This is our bay window seat.
11:51So we're going to have a hinged top which we'll open up to incorporate our secret storage.
11:58I need to finish this probably in the next hour or so.
12:02Which seems achievable.
12:05I have never made anything like this before.
12:11Max better appreciate this.
12:14Because I don't really know what I'm doing.
12:19I meant to do that.
12:31As work continues on the hidden compartments,
12:33Sam can't resist a twist.
12:35I think this may well be the most intricate item I've ever made this.
12:39It'll keep the judges guessing.
12:41To access theirs, I must first solve a riddle.
12:44When you find the eye of the finch that is green,
12:48your valuables will go from visible to unseen.
12:52And the idea is you put your finger in the finch's eye to lift it out.
12:56This green finch is the guardian of valuables.
12:59No one's ever going to call me Picasso, but at least we're having a go.
13:07Meanwhile, Ed's injecting some Hollywood glamour to their hidden compartment,
13:11giving these old drawers the star treatment.
13:15To the naked eye, it looks like a normal chest of drawers.
13:19And then the reveal.
13:21Bon appetit!
13:23It's a makeup storage unit.
13:25Do you know what? I'm actually really happy with this.
13:28And I do think this will form part of my daily routine.
13:31You know, just to get me looking funky fresh every day.
13:37This is being stuck together with glue and vibes.
13:44And it's going to be the finest piece of carpentry you've ever seen in your life
13:48that is not at all rushed.
13:55Right, last one.
13:56Is it going to take someone's weight?
13:58This is the big shutting off.
14:00I'll let you.
14:01Please work.
14:05I'm happy so far.
14:06Well done.
14:07Yay!
14:09There's a gap.
14:11Oh, nicely placed.
14:12Look how much that's easy, that.
14:14Oh, it's all right.
14:15Yeah, yeah.
14:16Not only can you see out there...
14:17Yeah.
14:18..and watch the green finch.
14:19If you're feeling tired, you can have a little lie down.
14:20Oh!
14:21That's really comfortable, that.
14:35Right.
14:36Cool.
14:37One.
14:38Bench seat.
14:39Wow.
14:40I definitely need to check it's going to fit.
14:42That's the only thing.
14:43Because I made it all out there, and that's miles away from in here.
14:46This is the moment of truth.
14:48Or...
14:49Hang on.
14:50Hang on.
14:51Hang on.
14:52Hang on.
14:53Hang on.
14:54Hang on.
14:55Hang on.
14:56Let's give it a go.
14:57Someone's got to test it.
14:58Someone's got to test it eventually.
14:59Alright.
15:00Oh, it's fine.
15:01Well done.
15:02I think it'll be the right size for the cushion as well.
15:04Yeah.
15:05Oh, it's fine.
15:06Well done.
15:07I think it'll be the right size for the cushion as well.
15:08Yeah.
15:09Yeah.
15:10Yeah, and you didn't just buy something and manipulate it.
15:12You've actually made this from scratch.
15:14Yeah.
15:15So that's amazing.
15:16Hold on.
15:17It's really good.
15:18It's really good.
15:20Back with the navy pair, Edward's putting an old creation to new use.
15:25So happy to see that again.
15:28The reason I brought our...
15:29Big stick.
15:30...controversial wine stand in is because I'm going to use it to hold the laser.
15:34Yeah.
15:35And I will get round and put that line up.
15:37The idea is we should have a super crisp line running right round the wall.
15:47How do you think that looks?
15:48Perfect.
15:54Hilarious that we built a great laser stand rather than...
15:57Well, at least it has a use, eh?
15:58Yeah, absolutely.
15:59Didn't really function as a wine rack.
16:00Great as a laser holder.
16:02Happy with the blue.
16:03It's lovely.
16:04As Tasha also adds a splash of blue...
16:05I'm happy with that consistency.
16:06It's not meant to just slip off.
16:07Sam and Elizabeth are taking their decorating one step further.
16:09We're now going to wallpaper in between panels.
16:12I'm really excited, actually.
16:13I've never handled French wallpaper before.
16:14Do you think it will be dramatically different?
16:15This is my reward after doing that box.
16:19I'm struggling to open this one.
16:20Do you want me to do a little drum roll?
16:22Yeah, probably about there, yeah.
16:23That's good, isn't it?
16:24That's a wonderful feeling, that.
16:25It's a little bit tricky because I've got to match up a pattern.
16:27No, that's not it.
16:28My eyes can't see where I'm going.
16:29Let me look.
16:30Let me look.
16:31Let me look.
16:32Let me look.
16:33Let me look.
16:34Let me look.
16:35Let me look.
16:36Let me look.
16:37Let me look.
16:38Can you hold everything in place?
16:39Yeah.
16:40This is a bit...
16:41Let me look.
16:42Let me look.
16:43Can you hold everything in place?
16:44Yeah.
16:45This is a bit...
16:46It's a little bit tricky because I've got to match up a pattern.
16:49No, that's not it.
16:50My eyes can't see where I'm going.
16:51Let me look.
16:52That with that.
16:53Is it?
16:54What we need is...
16:55Like a squiggly bit.
16:56Is it that?
16:57It's...
16:58It's this.
16:59Yes, there it is.
17:00There it is.
17:01I'm going to hold it.
17:02Can you hold everything in place?
17:03Yeah.
17:04This is a bit...
17:05Can you hold everything in place?
17:06Yeah.
17:07This is a bit...
17:08It's okay.
17:09It's gone all over the shop.
17:10I know.
17:11Can't hold it.
17:12No, no, no, no.
17:13Yeah, yeah.
17:14Move your arm.
17:15Right, which arm?
17:16This is that arm.
17:17It's just hanging on by, like, a tiny big out of the top.
17:19Right, sorted.
17:20Oh, my word, stress.
17:21Arms and arms everywhere.
17:23Ooh.
17:24Oh, it looks lovely.
17:25That is superb, isn't it?
17:26Yeah.
17:27Good job.
17:28Well done.
17:29Boy, done good.
17:30Yeah.
17:31Nice one.
17:32For Nell and Edward, it's time to Peel and Reveal.
17:37Ready?
17:38Yeah.
17:39Here we go.
17:42Yes, Eddie.
17:45Oh.
17:49It's perfect.
17:50Look at it.
17:53Well done, darling.
17:54Well done, Eddie.
17:55Oh, I'm really pleased with that now.
17:58Oh, I don't hate the blue anymore.
18:03On the edge.
18:09This bed has got two slats, one at the top end, one at the bottom end.
18:14After finally sourcing a bed, now to figure out which piece goes where.
18:19Right.
18:20Oh, my God.
18:21Oh, for God's sake.
18:22Let's just, just.
18:23Oh, God.
18:24I'll tell you what.
18:25I'll tell you what.
18:26Just lean that up on somewhere and we'll forget about that one.
18:27Right.
18:28Right, that's going to take the weight.
18:29It's very low down, isn't it?
18:30It's really low.
18:31Is that normal, that?
18:32It's incredibly low, that.
18:33You couldn't hide under the bed, could you?
18:34It feels really loose, though, you know?
18:35Look at that.
18:36I think adults don't do that.
18:37As long as no-one ever sleeps there, it will be all right.
18:39I don't know.
18:40It's incredibly low, that.
18:41You couldn't hide under the bed, could you?
18:42It feels really loose, though, you know?
18:43Look at that.
18:44I think adults don't do that.
18:45As long as no-one ever sleeps there, it will be all right.
18:52Oh, be careful.
18:54Canopy complete, Nell and Edward can finally see their grand plan come together.
19:00Nellie?
19:13Yeah.
19:14Oh, let's have a look.
19:17Looks good, doesn't it?
19:18I'm super impressed with it, I think it looks fantastic.
19:21Yeah, it's exactly what I wanted.
19:23It looks great, Nellie, well done.
19:24Thanks.
19:30It's the final day of the challenge, the last push before it's decided who stays in the
19:36competition and whose Chateau Dream ends here.
19:39Yeah.
19:40It's quite nerve-wracking, actually, to think that this potentially is our last day.
19:47I do not want any regrets after today.
19:50We've got to give it everything.
19:54Anxious, apprehensive, but excited, I think is where I'm at.
19:58I feel like I'm waiting for an exam that I haven't quite prepared for.
20:03Each day that we're here, we're pouring more and more into it.
20:06To win the dream would change our lives, it would change our children's lives.
20:10It would, it just means so much to us.
20:17Returning as guest judge is Stephanie Jarvis.
20:21Stephanie, it's the guest bedroom challenge.
20:24This has got to be one of your favourites, right?
20:26100% my favourite. Bedrooms are my favourite rooms, beds are my favourite pieces of furniture.
20:31Why is that? Why are you so into your bedrooms?
20:33I think I like lying down. It's as simple as that.
20:36And also when you're in a bedroom, you're in this safe space.
20:39I think to make a really welcoming guest bedroom, it has to be neutral enough so that whoever comes to it can imprint themselves on it.
20:46But at the same time, feel as though they're in a space that totally reflects the architecture and the style of the building that they're in.
20:53Now, are there any potential pitfalls?
20:56Well, aside from being luxurious and comforting, they have to be practical.
21:01Is there somewhere to hang your clothes? Is there a drawer to put things in?
21:06Is there somewhere to put your glass of water on by your bed?
21:10It's the perfect compromise between functionality and form.
21:13Has to be.
21:18For Nell and Edward, it's off to the workshop.
21:21And Nell's crafting hanging planters.
21:24I have cooked macrame before.
21:26We were having quite like a shabby chic wedding, like kind of boho vibes.
21:31And I kept seeing these beautiful macrame arches on the internet.
21:36And they were like hundreds and hundreds of pounds.
21:39And I was like, pfft, it's just some knots.
21:41I can do that.
21:42I can't.
21:43It was so hard.
21:45And I said to myself, I'll never macrame again.
21:48And here I am.
21:49While Ed finishes off their secret storage with a dab of glue.
21:53The way this adhesive works is that there's an activator.
21:58And it just does that.
22:00My dad, he would often say, if it looks right, it probably is right.
22:07So, just having a little bit of guidance.
22:15But essentially, if it looks right, it probably is right.
22:20OK.
22:22One bead.
22:23One bead.
22:24I'm moving at quite a quick rate of knots.
22:30Oh, you're such a loser.
22:32While back with the yellow pair, Sam is making use of an old cupboard door.
22:40This is going to be the top of the dressing table.
22:42There's no money left in the budget for a proper dressing table.
22:46It's the best piece of spare wood going in the wood store, and we're going to put three legs on it, made from a curtain pole.
22:54Hopefully, the judges will just appreciate that we've re-engineered some wood and a curtain rail.
23:01I'd best go to the workshop, I think.
23:04All right.
23:05See you in a minute.
23:07It feels like the dream of being here has become more real.
23:11And we love everything about being in France.
23:13I feel like a different person being here.
23:15I feel like a bit lighter, really.
23:17And we're just loving this opportunity to work on the shot.
23:25This was one of the headaches for today, but I'm quite happy with how it's going.
23:30I'm trying to make it as straight as possible, the leg.
23:32It feels like it's going a bit wonky.
23:38I think that looks better.
23:42I feel solid now, though.
23:45This is the test to see if it stands.
23:53I'm very pleased with that.
23:54Elizabeth is going to be thrilled with it.
24:00Tasha and Xavier turn their attention to the windows.
24:06What's happening with the colour of these?
24:08They're so pretty.
24:10They're very dreamy.
24:12They were only €5.
24:13Aren't they nice, though?
24:14What a beautiful colour.
24:16Right.
24:17Let's go.
24:23With the clock running down, Sam can't resist one final job.
24:27What are you thinking?
24:28Can I just ask you, what are you doing now?
24:30Panelling.
24:31It's about an hour.
24:32Have you got time to do panelling?
24:33Yeah, I've got time.
24:34I have to do it now.
24:35Because I am determined to have some wallpaper around there.
24:37It would be a massive regret if we don't do it.
24:39After six days of hard graft, the deadline looms, and the chateau is a frenzy of finishing touches.
24:54This is, like, last-minute panic.
24:58Panic stations that we're in.
24:59This is when I get nervous.
25:00This is, like, when I start all the self-doubt.
25:02The guest book's even getting a pen.
25:04Probably the most unique book in the whole of France.
25:08Shabby sheet book.
25:09I'm a little bit anxious that we haven't put the bed up.
25:17It's that strong.
25:18It's that strong.
25:33If the bed's here, I think the rug should be underneath it, or you put it right into the corner and it's not.
25:37OK, so are you thinking the rug more this way?
25:39More this way.
25:41Yep. Got it.
25:45The finch has been quiet.
25:47Maybe he's not around.
25:48It's a sign.
25:49He's been quiet, you know.
25:50These don't affect fit.
25:56Take measure, please.
25:57I don't have it. Where is it?
25:58Just in the bag's up.
26:00Right, I think it's riddle time, but I need a pen.
26:03How does it go, the riddle?
26:04Can't remember.
26:11Bye-la.
26:20Time's up.
26:21Tools down.
26:22It's time to dress your bedrooms.
26:24Stefan and I will be inspecting them shortly.
26:27Right, tools down, that's it.
26:29Which is a good job because there's no paint left.
26:31Hell no.
26:33This is called biting off more than you can chew.
26:35This is it.
26:40Hope it's enough.
26:43Sweaty.
26:48Six days, 500 euros and three bold makeovers.
26:53The bedrooms now face our keen eyes.
26:57First up is Tasha and Xavier.
26:59Tasha and Xavier struck gold with the locals, sourcing all their furniture for just 250 euros.
27:09Among the bargains, five euro curtains, budget-friendly polystyrene panelling and a handmade CL Deli.
27:17That's quite a transformation, isn't it?
27:18This is a big transformation.
27:20Xavier's carpentry extends throughout, with the pelmets, bedside tables and window seat all crafted in the workshop.
27:31And taking centre stage, two beds fuse together to create what they've dubbed the Franken bed.
27:37This feels very French. I like the way that they have managed to pull in the colours of the bed.
27:44They've had a sort of blue-grey and they've got the pinks coming through.
27:48It's tied the room together pretty nicely.
27:50It really has.
27:52They've affectionately named this the Franken bed, because actually it's two beds combined.
27:56And that's very clever, because quite often you don't get the length in antique beds that you want today.
28:03So in fact, taking sides from a bed that's long enough is a really good idea.
28:08And I think they've pulled it off though. I've got to say that bed crown needs to be bigger.
28:13It's more of a tiara than a crown really, isn't it?
28:16Definitely is.
28:18They've got a good eye for picking nice pieces of furniture.
28:20They do. We've had a fortman for that at the local boycott.
28:25It's a gorgeous piece of furniture.
28:27And it's practical. It's the perfect piece of furniture to have in a guest room.
28:30Speaking of beautiful sewing machine tables.
28:33They are great, aren't they?
28:35And they're quite multi-purpose actually.
28:38Now I've been told the secret compartment in this room is within that there seating area.
28:44Ah, yes. They have used it to store shoes.
28:50They're Xavier's.
28:52For sure.
28:54Yeah, it's secret, but I feel it doesn't have the glamour that we were looking for.
29:00I must say, I like the style of the panelling that they've gone for here.
29:04It feels very appropriate for a French house.
29:08It might look appropriate, but I can assure you said panelling is made from polystyrene, which made me very uneasy.
29:14Can you hear it? Oh.
29:17Yeah, but honestly, when you walk in, you can't tell. Just don't touch the panelling.
29:22It doesn't make a good sound, does it?
29:24I like this fabric.
29:25So that's the cushion they made in the Petite Challenge. They work, don't they?
29:29They do. It's a really nice idea to make this area into window seat. You gain all this space and you do want to sit there and read, don't you?
29:38It's a really cosy little nook.
29:39If I do have one slight concern, I love the individual pieces, I'm not just sure they go together well.
29:46I can see that they've tried to bring it together, especially with the use of colour.
29:50I do agree with you though, all the different colours of wood, it's not 100% working.
29:55Right, let's check out the next room.
29:57I'm looking forward to it.
29:58Nell and Edward had a clear vision, spending over 200 euros on fabric, which they've weaved throughout the design.
30:17Ooh, that's blue.
30:20Oh, it's very blue. You're in a sea of blue.
30:22Their bold colour-drenching approach sees every surface awash in their own custom shades of blue, mixed for just 50 euros.
30:33And with macrame holders filled with foraged greenery, they've accessorised using materials found around the chateau itself.
30:41On first impressions, it's very spacious.
30:45No, they've definitely prioritised space over furniture.
30:49That's a polite way of saying, where's all the furniture?
30:53But I like it. I like their bed. I like the way they've done the bed canopy.
30:57In fact, they've made a sort of wardrobe space behind the bed. Did you see that?
31:02That's clever, and that's why it feels so spacious, because there isn't a gigantic wardrobe taking up footprint here.
31:09So the fabric was over a third of their budget. Do you think that's money well spent?
31:12It's tough to say. I mean, quite often I think people renovating a chateau will find one incredible fabric that costs an absolute fortune.
31:21But I think perhaps the furniture should come first.
31:25Though I love the attention to detail of this, matching the bedspread and the chair cushions and the tiebacks.
31:32It's nice to see a bit of upholstery as well.
31:36It's really nice, and it ties the whole room together.
31:39And I guess when we talk about budget, they've saved on the wardrobe, because they've made the wardrobe out of the fabric, essentially.
31:45I've honestly never seen this before, and in a room where I cannot possibly fit a wardrobe, I would genuinely consider doing this now. It's clever.
31:53Now the obvious thing, that shouting out, is that piece of stand-alone furniture there.
32:00I found myself being irresistibly drawn to it.
32:04Three, two, one.
32:06Oh! Ooh!
32:09Oh, it's a proper little dressing table.
32:12It's more Hollywood than France, is it not?
32:15Yeah, but every woman likes a bit of Hollywood wherever she is. It's impressive.
32:20I like that. Me too.
32:21Ooh! I don't like that bit as much.
32:25I'll just hide the under there.
32:26No!
32:27It's a secret storage. You can hide broken things in there too. That's what it's for.
32:30Come on, let's go and look at something else.
32:34This is a nice little area, isn't it?
32:36It is very nice.
32:38So they had a really clever concept with the paint.
32:40They bought loads of white and a tiny pot of blue, and then just kept on mixing it to get the right colours.
32:46Now unfortunately, the way they've revisited, it looks a little bit patchy.
32:49Yeah, I can see quite a patchy area over here.
32:52I must say, I like the effect.
32:55It's almost a continuation, a modern version of those Toile de Jouy bedrooms in France, where absolutely everything, it's all the same print.
33:04So in a way, they're working in that tradition, but this incarnation of it perhaps feels a bit beachy.
33:10Doesn't scream rural France to me.
33:13No.
33:14It feels like this room is a little bit form over function.
33:18Yes, but a good form.
33:20Right, let's go check out the last room.
33:23It's exciting.
33:24Elizabeth and Sam drew inspiration from every corner of the chateau, echoing the grand panelling downstairs and bringing the outside in with floral art and wallpaper.
33:45First impression.
33:47Wow.
33:48Pretty slick, isn't it?
33:54Their trademark chateau chic style extends throughout, from a 50 euro wardrobe right down to the guestbook.
34:00Crafting their own dressing table with leftover wood, they've created an elegant vanity corner for under 40 euros.
34:11The fabric is nice.
34:13I'm a little confused about the colour a bit, but I can see that with the art, they've brought in the burgundy of the bed.
34:20Of course, that's the challenge. They didn't go out and buy a bed in the correct colour, did they?
34:23No, but that's why it's good to start with the big purchases first and work around those.
34:28Do you know what I like about this room? It makes me feel calm.
34:32Yes, it's very peaceful.
34:34I think this is probably the most usable of the rooms because they're the only ones who've actually got a wardrobe.
34:41And boy, have they got a wardrobe.
34:42Oh, they've got a wardrobe.
34:44I did have my concerns that painting something so big and dark, a white light colour, might not work.
34:50But actually, I think they've done a really good job. They've distressed it in all the right places.
34:54No, they have. And also, if that had been kept dark, it would have been quite oppressive, I think, in the space with the other colours going on around it.
35:02What is that? A visitor book?
35:06Welcome to the Green Finch, Verdier Chambre.
35:10Well done, you.
35:11To access a secret compartment, work out the riddle on the next page. Are you good at riddles?
35:15Probably not. Let's go through.
35:16No, me neither.
35:17When you find the Eye of Finch that is green, you'll make your valuables go from visible to unseen.
35:26Well, this is fun.
35:27I like this already.
35:28I want this in all hotel rooms I stay in, in future.
35:33There he is!
35:34There's the little green finch.
35:36Eye of Finch. Okay, should I lift Eye of Finch?
35:38You've got to poke him in the eye though, which feels a little bit aggressive.
35:40It feels wrong, doesn't it? It feels wrong.
35:41Oh, we've got a compartment!
35:44A little cubby for all your valuables.
35:46That was fun.
35:47That was the first time I've ever had a riddle in a guest bedroom.
35:50They've thought of everything, haven't they?
35:51Yeah, that's really sweet. I like it.
35:55I really like this.
35:57So do I.
35:58And I think that's actually upcycled.
35:59I think that's an old door, you know.
36:01There's evidence where there used to be hinges.
36:02That's beautiful and it matches the chair.
36:04It's clever.
36:05There's the natural light coming in from the window.
36:07There's the mirror.
36:08I quite like the gold.
36:10I think the gold with the duck egg, the brass.
36:13It all ties in lovely, doesn't it?
36:14Absolutely right.
36:15It's so French. Screams France.
36:17It just feels really coherent.
36:19It's nicely thought through.
36:21Now, speaking of French touches, the panelling.
36:24I love seeing panelling in a French house.
36:26It just makes it feel right.
36:28I'm not a huge fan of the pattern they've gone for.
36:31It feels a little contemporary, but I think it's really nicely done
36:36and the colour is perfect.
36:38And also, I really love using the same material
36:40to create that frame for the wallpaper.
36:42And again, working to a budget instead of wallpapering the entire wall,
36:46just using one roll probably to do both those walls is a clever idea.
36:50We have got an incredibly tough decision to make.
36:53I'm not looking forward to that.
36:55The thought of leaving is awful.
36:57It's such a beautiful place to be.
36:59I really don't want to go home.
37:01We have left everything in that room,
37:03and if it's not enough, then it's not enough.
37:06I'm really proud of what we've done.
37:08We couldn't have worked any harder.
37:09Yeah, there's nothing more we can do,
37:10so let's just wait to see what the judges think of it.
37:14I was genuinely so impressed with all three of those rooms,
37:31especially when you consider the time and budget constraints.
37:35It's incredible what they've done.
37:37And they're so inventive.
37:39They're all so different.
37:41I was really impressed.
37:42I was charmed by Tasha and Xavier's room,
37:45and it felt quite authentically French.
37:48I've been to many a chateau bedroom that feels just like that.
37:52But also really reflects them as a couple in their work ethic.
37:56They both give 110% with whatever they're doing,
37:59taking on challenges like that.
38:01Pelmet, the little bedside tables.
38:03They weren't perfect, but fair play to them.
38:06I think the finishers left something to be desired,
38:09but they're just starting out.
38:11As they develop their skills and develop their knowledge,
38:14all of that would improve.
38:16Speaking of developing skills,
38:18Sam's attempted panelling for the second challenge running,
38:21and he's evolving in front of our very eyes.
38:24I felt it was much more polished
38:26than the panelling in Xavier and Tasha's room.
38:29And not only was that panelling well designed and constructed,
38:32I think the colourway worked beautifully.
38:34That dirty duck egg was so peaceful and tranquil.
38:38I think both of us thought that was immediately our favourite colour
38:41of all of the rooms.
38:43Personally, I probably wouldn't have paired it with burgundy,
38:46but I think the bed came as an afterthought.
38:48And I really enjoyed the riddle.
38:50It elevated it.
38:51It's the first time I've ever had a riddle on entering a guest bedroom.
38:55Whilst those two secret storage compartments were quite similar,
38:58Nell and Edwards was completely out of the blue.
39:01Well, it was actually in the blue.
39:03Literally.
39:04It was like an art installation.
39:05We were drawn towards it.
39:07I liked the colour wash idea.
39:09You're enveloped by this blue.
39:11I've actually done something similar before.
39:13And of course, they won the petite challenge as well.
39:15Those cushions were stunning.
39:16Yeah, they were very, very good.
39:18It was a wonderful, bold vision
39:20that could work in a boutique hotel by the coast somewhere.
39:24But I don't think Chateau came across loud and clear.
39:27This is so incredibly tough,
39:29but I think we've agreed on something.
39:31Well, you've got your favourite and I've got mine,
39:33but yeah, I think we know what we're doing now.
39:36But we do agree on who's going home.
39:38We do. I hate this bit.
39:40It's not fun, is it?
39:41You should go and tell them.
39:42Yeah, let's do it.
39:55We have made our decision.
39:57Which two pairs will make it through to the next round
40:00and which pair will be leaving the competition?
40:10Welcome, everybody.
40:13What a fantastic challenge.
40:15You should all be incredibly proud.
40:18First off, you all rose to the challenge
40:21and you gave us an incredibly difficult decision to make.
40:24We were really impressed with all of your designs.
40:30Picking a winner was very, very hard for us.
40:36Whilst the winning room had a few rough edges,
40:39it ticked all of the boxes in terms of design and functionality.
40:43And the winning room is...
40:57Sam and Elizabeth.
41:01Oh, my goodness. Thank you.
41:03Oh, wow.
41:04I'm in shock.
41:05I can't believe it.
41:07I think it's going to take a long time to sink in, actually.
41:10Yeah.
41:11I'm so excited to be one step closer.
41:13We really, really didn't want to go home,
41:15so this is a dream come true.
41:17Oh, my goodness.
41:18Well done.
41:19But we're going to have a celebratory vino or two tonight.
41:22Yeah.
41:24Will the remaining pairs please step forward?
41:27You both interpreted the brief completely differently,
41:38and you both had unique strengths in your designs.
41:43Leaving us today is...
41:45Nell and Edward.
41:55I'm sorry.
42:00Nell and Edward, it's been an absolute pleasure
42:17seeing your designs come to life.
42:20Thank you so much.
42:21Thanks very much.
42:22We've had a great time.
42:23Good luck, guys.
42:32Oh, we're gutted.
42:33Yeah.
42:35Put everything that we had into the room,
42:37and I'm going to walk away being really proud of what we did.
42:40I think we both agree the craftsmanship from Nell and Edward is fantastic.
42:48Edward's carpentry skills are second to none,
42:51and Nell, boy, can she sew.
42:53But we didn't see that coming across enough in the final design,
42:56and I think that that's maybe because they allocated
42:58so much of their budget to the fabric
43:01that there wasn't enough left for the rest of the room.
43:03I feel like I'm going to be awkward.
43:10I just feel like I can't believe it, really.
43:15I just feel like I'm in another world, yeah.
43:18In shock.
43:19I don't really have many words, which is unlike me.
43:22My favourite room was actually Tasha and Xavier's room.
43:25I found it quirky and charming and actually really similar
43:28to a lot of chateau attic bedrooms that I've seen,
43:31but I did have to agree that the level of finishes
43:34wasn't there for them to be the overall winners.
43:37That's where Sam and Elizabeth really shone.
43:39The attention to detail, the finish,
43:41and the overall design was fantastic.
43:45I feel upset for Edward and Nell as well.
43:47Yeah. I feel really upset for them.
43:49Like, they've been really good friends to us during this process.
43:54We've become very close, and I feel very upset for them.
43:57The dream isn't over, not at all.
43:59I think, if anything, this is...
44:01Lit a fire.
44:02Yeah, showing us that this is where we want to be
44:04and, you know, what we want to do.
44:07You know, we just have to find a different way to get here.
44:10Yeah.
44:14Congratulations on your guest room renovations
44:16that have secured your place in this week's final.
44:19Oh, God.
44:23We're packing up and heading out for this next challenge.
44:25No.
44:26Oh, wow.
44:27Fantastic.
44:28Going home.
44:29Not expected.
44:30Because after this next challenge,
44:32one pair will be guaranteed their place in the grand finale,
44:36and the other pair will be going home.
44:38Oh, that's sad.
44:40It's sad.
44:41Well done for this challenge.
44:43And I will see you all tomorrow.
44:45Oh, thank you.
44:47Thanks again.
44:55Next time, the final two pairs hit the road.
44:59Oh, my gosh.
45:00Oh, wow.
45:01That's gorgeous.
45:02For a challenge with a twist.
45:05Canapes.
45:06You've got to have at least a bottle each.
45:09They're going to be absolutely sizzled.
45:11But with only one space in the grand finale...
45:14There are things you do for a chate.
45:16..whose dreams will come crashing down.
45:18This is an actual nightmare, though, isn't it?
45:21Oh, my word.
45:23..and who will be serving up success.
45:25And the pair still competing to win their dream is...
45:32one year than two seconds...
45:41Maybe hisiks has to Ephesus casa.
45:42In a sense that, everything he came to us,
45:43to be a good a tag on us and..."
45:45We're not planning to play our dreams anyway.
45:46We've got a Johnson & Hagi as well and look it forward forward...
45:48All this bridge could be вход while him to rise again...
45:49The first bridge had the Legends that were created and the drop down...
45:51The sheerrid finish should be降 Это all about 3.
45:53Not the lore that its value.
45:54We're all a good add in.
45:55Everything inside the mondias..."
45:56A Whoops...
45:57Someone inside...
45:58The one kind of months later...
