To Touch One Heart
To Touch One Heart—Part 1 is my testimony of trauma, trials, and triumphs—from birth until the passing of both my parents. I liken my life to a tapestry: a rich, intricate weave of experiences, emotions, challenges, and growth. Each thread—joyful or sorrowful, positive or painful—shaped who I was becoming. No two lives unfold the same way, just as no two tapestries are identical.
Through this lens, I began to see the beauty and purpose in every moment, even those that once felt meaningless. My story invites readers to reflect on their own lives as tapestries—woven with visible and hidden threads that shape identity and meaning. Life isn’t a straight path but an interconnected design, stitched by every choice, emotion, and encounter.
At times, my journey felt like the tangled underside of a tapestry—frayed, chaotic, and without pattern. But when turned over, I saw the Creator’s masterful design. God, the Master Weaver, uses every thread—good or bad—with intention, crafting a story of redemption and glory. His promises are the unbreakable strands stretching across time, weaving every tribe, tongue, and nation into a masterpiece of divine love.
The road has been long, yet the journey is worth it. This painting is called TRANSPARENCY. It takes a depth to expose your most tender of scars and to have them written on pages that others will judge. The woman in this painting walks into the soul that has transformed pain into a colorful description of THE HEALING. I, Dorine Lovejoy painted this for my bestie because I witnessed the transformation of scars and wounds turn to a beautiful moment of courage and trust.

00:41And she's been gone almost two years now

00:48I want to thank you guys so much for tuning in
00:51I haven't guessed, and you can hear her in the background
00:53Man, let me tell you something
00:54She is a Sarasota girl
00:57Went to high school in Sarasota
00:58I don't know what you're talking about
01:00I live in Sarasota, this is wonderful
01:02Pamela Benner is here
01:04Thank you so much for being here
01:06Thank you for having me, it's a pleasure
01:08Oh, the pleasure is mine
01:10Man, I tell you what
01:11I absolutely love interviewing people
01:13I have this thing where I want to know what you're doing
01:17Maybe that's being nosy in a really creative way
01:20I don't know
01:20I like that
01:22But I want to thank you so much for joining us
01:25You know, you wrote a book
01:27And I want to go ahead and show people the book
01:28So I'm going to go ahead and go to your website really quick
01:31And make sure that people can see it
01:33It's called To Touch One Heart
01:36I absolutely love that
01:38I think that that is beautiful
01:39And here is the book right here
01:42And the theme of the book and everything
01:43Tell me, you know, as people that write books
01:47And you write
01:48I never thought I would be able to write a book
01:50Did you ever want to write a book?
01:53Was that something you wanted or did you find yourself?
01:56Yeah, I would think at some point it was something that I desired to do
02:00I just didn't know when exactly I would start writing
02:04But from the time I was a teenager
02:07I liked to write poems and do creative things of that nature
02:12So it wasn't until later on in life that I actually took my writing seriously
02:16What was your writing process like?
02:19I mean, because I know you don't live in Sarasota anymore, do you?
02:22I live in Tarpon Springs, Florida
02:24Oh, that's not too far
02:25Yeah
02:26That's not too far
02:27I actually went to school in Sarasota
02:29I went to Ringling School of Art and Design
02:31Nice
02:32For about a year and a half
02:34Nice
02:35And that's when I actually started to begin to write after I had left school
02:42So what is your writing process like?
02:45Because everybody has something different that they do
02:47Yeah, mine is kind of repetitious
02:50I write just about anything that comes to mind
02:55I don't have any kind of order to it
02:58I don't have any rhyme or reason of what I'm actually writing
03:03It's just something that I think about at a moment
03:08And I just sit down and begin to write
03:10And then it kind of flows from there
03:12Once I get all the ideas down on paper
03:19What I normally do is I read it and read it and read it and reorganize it
03:25And, you know, I do a lot of reputation on that
03:30Because it's making me clarify the things that I want to write
03:37Right
03:38It doesn't all come at one shot
03:40You know, I don't just sit down and actually write a book
03:43I have to continually exercise it like a muscle
03:49You know, I have to continue to write down everything that comes to me at that moment
03:55I have to, you know, get up at night
03:58Any time of the day
04:00Be ready to actually write what needs to be written
04:04And if I don't write it right then
04:06Sometimes it gets lost in my thoughts
04:09But at some time it usually comes back to me
04:11While I'm doing other writing
04:14And then I actually write it at that point
04:17Wow
04:18Well, you've shared some really intimate and deep and personal things in this book
04:24Triumph, trauma
04:27What motivated you to do this?
04:31Well, I began when I had left school in Sarasota
04:36I wanted to go back
04:37I was going through a big separation with my two daughters
04:41And I wanted to go back to New Jersey, which is where I was from
04:45And I wanted to actually be a part of their lives
04:51But it didn't work out that way
04:53I stayed there for about a month
04:56And then I returned back to my parents' home
05:01I had returned after 20 years
05:04And they graciously allowed me to come back in
05:09And from that point I began to write
05:12I was just writing any old thing
05:15Actually, I was writing about Cinderella
05:17Which kind of sounds funny
05:19But I didn't really know what I was going to be writing at the time
05:23And as I continued to write after a couple of years
05:27I realized that I could write
05:30And I decided to pursue that
05:35Actually, the first book that I actually took seriously was called Faith to Believe
05:42And I wrote the manuscript
05:45And I was working with a publisher at the time
05:48And I was going through a lot of emotional things at that time
05:54And I was on my way to a prayer meeting
05:58And I had decided to take the manuscript
06:01And I threw it over the bridge into the water
06:05Over in Tampa
06:08And I said, I never want to, you know, see this manuscript again
06:13And I don't really ever want to write
06:16So I was kind of having an argument with myself about it
06:20Went back to the prayer meeting
06:22And then about a month later
06:25I received an email from a stranger
06:27That said, I have your manuscript
06:32My husband found it while he was fishing
06:35And would you like to meet up with me
06:39She was about 25 minutes from my home
06:42And so I agreed to do that
06:45And really the outstanding thing about that whole thing was
06:50When I actually received the manuscript back from her
06:54There was no signs of water damage or anything to the manuscript
06:59Or to the things that I had included in the envelope
07:03Upon throwing it out into the rocky waters
07:06So he had said to me
07:09I hope you don't mind
07:11But I read your manuscript
07:12And I think you should get it published
07:14It would help a lot of people
07:16So from then on
07:19I decided I was going to
07:21You know, publish it
07:23And continue to move on
07:24At that point
07:26So I did
07:26I wrote for 12 years
07:28And I wrote a series of 12 books
07:31And I gave them out
07:34For eight years
07:36And it wasn't until my mom and dad's passing
07:41That I had given them all out
07:44And I had decided at that point
07:46I was not going to write anymore
07:49So it took me a good three years
07:54Before I decided
07:55I was going to write my testimony
07:57Because I was bombarded with doing that for a lot of years
08:03While I was doing the series
08:04And I just wasn't ready to put myself out there completely
08:10Because I do testify somewhat in the book series
08:14But not quite as in-depth as I do with this book
08:17So it took me a while to decide to do it
08:21Probably around 10 years
08:23Before I came to peace with it
08:26And said okay
08:27Because I was given a promise
08:29If I was to write this book
08:30That God was going to heal my life
08:34He wasn't just going to heal my wounds
08:37Because he had done that through the book series
08:39He healed me emotionally, spiritually, and physically
08:43While I wrote those books
08:44So this other promise was
08:48That he was going to heal my life
08:50And I really didn't know what that meant
08:51At the time
08:53But now that I've written the book
08:55I have a greater understanding of what that all means
08:58Yeah, wow
09:00And I do believe it's going to help other people
09:02And they're going to heal through reading the book as well
09:05So your spirituality is kind of like the main thing
09:09I see that you were running from this a couple of times
09:12Yes
09:13You can't do that
09:14I was a runner
09:15I know a runner when I see one now
09:17I was definitely a runner
09:19And I can tell you
09:21I was running from writing this book as well
09:23I didn't want to do it
09:25You know
09:26I didn't even want to be bothered with any of it
09:30Because I was so overdoing all that I had done
09:34I had written every day
09:36Morning, noon, and night
09:39When I wrote the book series
09:40So I didn't really want to be bothered doing it again
09:44Because I had done it four times
09:45This was the fourth time
09:47That I was actually going to do the book series over
09:49Because I am doing the book series over
09:51As I was doing this book
09:55And I didn't want to do it over again
09:57You know, over and over
09:59Because I had different situations come about
10:01That it would start and stop
10:04And, you know, things in life would happen
10:06And so it took me now
10:08To actually put these books on platforms
10:11And get them out to people
10:13Yeah, I hear you
10:15But sometimes it takes that long
10:17Sometimes, you know
10:18The healing process and all that
10:20You were talking about that a minute ago
10:22Your spirituality, your healing
10:24In writing this book
10:25Did you find that your healing process
10:29Came along with the book?
10:31Yes
10:31Or was it because of the healing process
10:33That you wrote the book?
10:35No, it was during the writing
10:37Of the book series
10:39That actually
10:40I didn't even realize it at the time
10:42Until after they were completed
10:44That they actually healed me
10:46And then I was given the promise
10:49If I wrote my whole testimony
10:52That it would heal my life
10:54So I was willing to do that
10:57You know, it was at that place
10:59Where I was more willing
11:01To do it quicker than later
11:03Do you advise people
11:06Who are going to write a book?
11:08I tell people all the time
11:10Because I run into people
11:13That say to me
11:14Well, I want to write a book
11:16I'd like to do that too
11:18And, you know
11:19I usually have a conversation
11:20With people that are interested
11:22In writing a book of some sort
11:24And I try to encourage them
11:26In every aspect of writing
11:28That it does you
11:31Greater than what you would
11:33Even imagine
11:34Because you just start out
11:36With nothing
11:37And you really gain
11:38Something in the end
11:40At least I see it that way
11:42It was a big gain for me
11:44Personally
11:45In my growth
11:46And in
11:47Just my life
11:48Even for my children
11:50And for my grandchildren
11:51Because I wrote this book
11:52Basically for my generational line
11:55And that was for my grandsons
11:57Wow, wow
12:00You know
12:00Explain your book to someone
12:02In a paragraph
12:04Something that would
12:06Explain to them
12:07Not exactly what the book is about
12:09But what the book can do for them
12:12And what it's done for you
12:13What would you tell them?
12:14What would you say?
12:15Well, I think for myself
12:17The book begins from my birth
12:20To my parents' passing
12:22And I've spoken to a couple
12:27Of people already
12:28That have gotten my book
12:30And they've identified
12:32With the pain in their life
12:35For what I have written
12:36In regards to certain things
12:38That they had actually
12:40Forgotten about it
12:41They had actually
12:44Remembered it
12:46The moment they began
12:47To write the book
12:48And I think it's so important
12:51That this book
12:53Will spark people's emotions
12:55They'll spark people's minds
12:58They'll spark them
13:00In a way that
13:01They will be able
13:02To remember those things
13:04Because a lot of people
13:04They just bury themselves
13:06In all of their woundedness
13:09And I did that
13:10You know
13:11I had to unbury myself
13:13In order to write this book
13:15Wow
13:16So it's just
13:17A lot of things
13:19That were miraculously
13:21Done in this book
13:23For me
13:23And I don't want
13:25To take anything
13:26Away from the reader
13:27Right now
13:28But God was very faithful
13:30Even to the very end
13:31Of my parents' life
13:33And how he
13:34Used that
13:3520 years
13:36That I lived with them
13:37To bring healing
13:39To me
13:40As well as to them
13:41That was the biggest
13:42Blessing
13:43Yeah
13:44Wow
13:45You know
13:45It's hard sometimes
13:47To put those things
13:48Down on paper
13:48When you started writing
13:50What was the moment
13:52That really broke you down?
13:55I think it was
13:58Just the fact
13:59That I was able
14:00To put it on paper
14:03Because throughout my life
14:05I always recalled
14:07Those memories
14:08Especially the traumatic memories
14:10And it was very hard
14:13To actually
14:14Want to
14:15You know
14:15Actually write about it
14:16And actually
14:18You know
14:19Feel it in some respects
14:21You know
14:21Yeah
14:22A lot of people
14:23Don't want to feel
14:24That pain again
14:25And that's really
14:26What I had to do
14:27I had to feel
14:28I had to cry
14:30I had to
14:31You know
14:32Be angry
14:33And feel certain emotions
14:35Again
14:35Which I would have
14:36Rather not have done
14:38Yeah
14:39You know
14:39I do know
14:40And that is the hard part
14:43Because there is pain
14:45In healing
14:45I don't care
14:46If it's spiritual healing
14:47Physical healing
14:49Mental healing
14:50Or even emotional healing
14:52It all connects back
14:53To having to feel pain
14:55Of some sort
14:56Yeah
14:57So
14:57I try to tell people
14:59It's well worth it
15:00Because with God anyway
15:02He
15:03He
15:03Touches you
15:05In such a way
15:06That once you
15:07Acknowledge the pain
15:09It's gone in a heartbeat
15:11It doesn't linger
15:13It doesn't stay with me
15:14It's just
15:15It's just healed
15:17And
15:18It's done
15:19And that's what this book
15:21Did for me
15:22And I
15:22Just have the faith
15:24To believe that
15:25It will do it
15:25For other people
15:26As well
15:27Because we don't
15:28Even realize
15:29Sometimes
15:30How much pain
15:31We endure
15:33Even in
15:34You know
15:35A normal situation
15:36Sometimes
15:37Like there's so many triggers
15:39Oh
15:40Yeah
15:40You know
15:41And I lived a life
15:43Of triggers
15:43That's what
15:44That's how I lived my life
15:45For the last
15:46You know
15:4840 years
15:49Were on triggers
15:50And I didn't even know
15:52What a trigger was
15:53Until I read
15:53Until I wrote my book
15:54Wow
15:55You know
15:56I had dealt with that
15:58For so long
15:59That it just became
16:00A part of my life
16:01And you know
16:04It's fresh in my mind
16:06My mom passing
16:07So to write it down
16:08Probably not ready
16:09To do that yet
16:10You know what I mean
16:10Yeah
16:11But I can see
16:13How it could be
16:15Very much so healing
16:16For me
16:17And anyone actually
16:18Who's a loved one
16:20Or anyone close to them
16:21To actually write that down
16:23To tell that story
16:24You know
16:25It's just so
16:26It's such a blessing
16:27To have you here
16:28And I'm just so thankful
16:29That you are here
16:30What would you tell people
16:33If you had to tell them
16:34Something like
16:35Hey
16:35You know
16:36Be encouraged to write
16:37Or what kind of advice
16:39Would you give a person
16:40Or even inspiration
16:41Yeah
16:42Well like I said
16:43I tell people all the time
16:45The best healing
16:47Is within
16:48It's not
16:49Running after something
16:51On the outside
16:52Or thinking
16:53Somebody else
16:53Is going to
16:54To do the healing
16:55For you
16:56You need to look
16:57Within yourself
16:58Because everything
16:58That we need
16:59As a person
17:00Especially those
17:02That are close
17:03To God's
17:04You know
17:05Will and way
17:05You know
17:06He will do
17:07The work within
17:08Because it's
17:09It's what's coming
17:10And happening
17:11Within you
17:12That will manifest
17:14On the outside
17:15Yeah
17:15And that's true
17:17No matter whether
17:19It's still the pain
17:20This pain
17:21Still manifests
17:22By the way
17:23We you know
17:24React to things
17:25How we
17:25How we handle
17:26Situations
17:27I was big on
17:29Rage
17:29When I was married
17:31I had a lot of rage
17:33So
17:33That's how
17:36I realized
17:37That inside
17:38I was
17:39A total mess
17:40People look at me
17:43Now and say
17:43I can't believe
17:45You you would have
17:46Been like that
17:47Because I was
17:48I know who I was
17:50Then
17:51And
17:51There was a great
17:53Work that was
17:54Done within me
17:55Because I couldn't
17:57Handle myself
17:58Anymore
17:58I mean I actually
17:59Snapped
18:00At some point
18:01And my brain
18:03Was like
18:04Fried
18:04That's when I
18:06Had gone back
18:06To
18:07You know
18:08Sarasota
18:09And I was
18:10My brain
18:11Was actually
18:11Being put back
18:12Together again
18:13Because
18:14That's
18:15I couldn't even
18:16Really think
18:17For myself
18:18Back then
18:18Wow
18:21There's a lot
18:23Of
18:23There's a lot
18:24Of healing
18:24A lot
18:25Of different
18:26Ways of healing
18:26Yeah
18:27You know
18:28But the thing
18:29Is is that
18:29The real
18:30True healing
18:31Came from
18:32Within myself
18:33And through
18:34My dedication
18:35Of writing
18:35And having
18:36Faith
18:37To believe
18:37That God
18:38Would do it
18:39Yeah
18:39Even when
18:40I didn't
18:40Even know
18:41How he
18:41Would do it
18:42Or you know
18:43Whatever the
18:44Road was
18:45I just said
18:46Yes to it
18:47And kept
18:47Saying yes
18:48To it
18:48And never
18:49Quit
18:50Never gave
18:50Up
18:50Yeah
18:51Wow
18:52That's just
18:53Yeah
18:55You've inspired
18:56Me
18:56Definitely
18:56I'm not ready
18:57I mean
18:57When did
18:58You know
18:59When did
18:59You know
19:00Okay
19:00I'm ready
19:01Because there
19:01Has to be
19:02A point
19:02Where you
19:03Say
19:03Okay
19:03Now
19:04How many
19:05Years later
19:06Was it
19:06A lot of
19:07People grieve
19:07Differently
19:08And so
19:09That's
19:09I mean
19:09You know
19:10That's the
19:10Point I
19:11Want to
19:11Know
19:11Yeah
19:13I think
19:14You have
19:14To just
19:15Search your
19:16Own heart
19:16And what
19:18You want
19:19To express
19:21You know
19:22Even regards
19:22To your
19:23Own parents
19:24Passing
19:25And what
19:26Has kind
19:27Of hindered
19:27You
19:28Because it
19:28Will hinder
19:29You
19:29Those things
19:30Do hinder
19:31Us
19:31In our
19:32Creativity
19:32They hinder
19:33Us
19:33In our
19:33Everyday
19:34Life
19:34It hinders
19:36Us
19:36Where we
19:37Don't move
19:38Past a
19:38Certain point
19:39And I
19:41Didn't want
19:41Those hindrances
19:42In my life
19:43Anymore
19:43I wanted
19:43To be free
19:44Of it all
19:45Yeah
19:46Yeah
19:46And I
19:48Can suggest
19:48You to
19:49Read my
19:50Book
19:50And read
19:51The last
19:51Chapter of
19:52My book
19:53Because that's
19:54The miraculous
19:54Part of
19:55My parents
19:56Passing
19:56I mean
19:57It wasn't
19:57Just the fact
19:58That my
19:58Mother and
19:59My father
19:59Passed
20:00It was
20:00What God
20:01Had done
20:01During that
20:02Time of
20:02Their passing
20:03And how
20:04He made
20:05Everything work
20:06Together for
20:07Good
20:07Which I had
20:08No understanding
20:09Of that when
20:10I entered
20:10Their door
20:1120 years
20:12Earlier
20:12Wow
20:13It was such
20:15A transformation
20:16Wow
20:19Well thank you
20:20So much
20:21Pamela for
20:22Being on the
20:22Show I
20:22Appreciate it
20:23Is there
20:23Anything we
20:24Missed
20:24Today you
20:25Like to
20:25Say
20:25No but
20:27I just
20:27Encourage
20:28Anyone
20:28And no
20:29Matter what
20:30You think
20:30What may
20:31Seem like
20:32A little
20:32Bit in
20:33Terms of
20:33Writing
20:34If you
20:35Take a
20:35Little bit
20:36Of time
20:37Each day
20:37And write
20:38You will
20:39Have a
20:39Book in
20:40Time
20:40And it
20:41May not
20:42Make a
20:42Whole lot
20:42Of sense
20:43In the
20:43Beginning
20:43But once
20:44You decide
20:46To do
20:46It you'll
20:47See that
20:48It will
20:48Happen
20:49Because it
20:50Is something
20:51That just
20:51Happens
20:52It's not
20:52Something that
20:53I even
20:54Plan
20:54On
20:54Wow
20:55Well thank
20:57You so
20:57Much
20:58Pamela
20:58Thank you
