Many people who experience trauma develop a victim mindset and remain stuck to their traumatic past. They allow the trauma to define who they are, they want the world to empathize with their pain and they wish that the life compensates them for what was snatched away from them. Although this is an absolutely normal response to getting traumatized, it unfortunately binds the person to their traumatic past and stifles self-growth. Individuals with this mindset often slip into depression.

In this short video, Pulkit Sharma, clinical psychologist and author, talks about this victim mindset and how one can move away from this mentality and carve a new identity.
