We are not unified within — there different parts of our being represented by multiple voices in our mental space — some urging growth and evolution, some demanding self-protection, and others justifying anger and resentment.

In this excerpt from 2018 talk at SACAR, Pondicherry, Pulkit Sharma, clinical psychologist, psychoanalytic therapist, spiritual counsellor and author, explores these conflicting voices through the lens of Integral Psychotherapy and the work of The Mother of Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

Healing begins not by silencing them, but by listening.
Inner transformation is discovering which voice deserves to guide us.

00:00Basically, you know, it's a very interesting exercise that if you pay attention to your own mind, your own self,
00:07you will actually not hear one voice, you will hear multiple voices.
00:11You will hear multiple voices. And all these voices are different parts of your being.
00:17So, there would be one voice that would say that no, I have to grow, I have to evolve, I
00:23have to let go of this negative emotion, this is really holding me back.
00:26There will be another voice that will say that no, you know, how can someone, you know, take me for
00:33a ride, I must guard myself and I must give a tit for tat, you know.
00:38So, you see, these are two very conflicting voices, you know. The third voice may say, the voice of justification,
00:46it is okay to be angry at sometimes.
00:48It's absolutely fine to be angry at, you know, someone or sometimes. So, what is very important is that in
00:57emotional healing, these different voices need to be heard.
01:02And then, after hearing them, we need to reach a conviction that this is my topmost priority, or this is
01:12the deepest thing in me.
01:14And I have to, that yes, all these voices are there, but this voice happens to be the deepest one.
01:20And I must, time and again, align myself to this voice.
