00:00Nebraska on the road to take on Michigan College Basketball Big Ten.
00:04Did you know Nebraska has the nation's longest active win streak right now?
00:08But if you take a look at the spread, you wouldn't know that.
00:10Michigan favored by 10.5 points across the board, a total of 155.5.
00:15The number one shooting three-point team in the Big Ten is Nebraska,
00:19at 38.5% in conference play.
00:22Do you know who lets you shoot the three-point shot?
00:24It's Michigan.
00:25Also, we saw a little case of that last night between,
00:27oh, yeah, Louisville loves a three-point shot.
00:29Duke doesn't really defend at all, but, wow, whoo, that was a blowout.
00:32Joe, Nebraska, Michigan today.
00:34Nebraska's going to have a tough time staying unbeaten, no?
00:36What's your spread line here?
00:38Well, you got to love it, right?
00:39And this shows you the totally different opinions about what the books think,
00:45what the pros think, and what the public thinks here
00:48because the public is looking at a 20-0 Nebraska team and going,
00:53wait a minute, they're a double-digit underdog against Michigan?
00:57What?
00:58Yeah, 20 straight wins is 20 straight wins any which way you slice it, right?
01:02But double digits?
01:05Well, that's the whole thing, right?
01:07Strength of schedule plays a big part of this.
01:09Michigan, who has played the second toughest schedule in all of college basketball,
01:17they've got quadrant one wins by 4, 40, 30, 40, 10.
01:23You get the point here?
01:24There is a big difference between playing quality opponents
01:28and playing non-quality opponents and being undefeated.
01:31And they've only lost one game, Michigan, and they are at home,
01:35and they make a habit of winning by double digits against lesser teams.
01:39We're going to learn a lot about Nebraska here tonight.
01:43It's been a great season.
01:44It's been a great run.
01:45But the market is clearly telling you, Donnie,
01:48yet they are not as good as their record says they are.
01:52Purdue and Indiana, the battle of the state here.
01:55It's going to take place tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern.
01:57You take a look at this line.
01:58Opened up overnight around 4.5 as a favorite towards Purdue.
02:01Now we're seeing some outlets as high as 5.5,
02:04but most of them selling in between 4.5 and 5 points here.
02:07A total in this game, let's say, 152.5.
02:09Purdue at Indiana.
02:10Joe, give me a spread line for this one.
02:13Yeah.
02:14So, basically, we have Purdue on a two-game losing streak by a combined,
02:18by the way, eight points.
02:20And they also ran into two buzz saws in Illinois and UCLA.
02:25Terrible scheduling spots there.
02:27The fourth game of a 10-day road trip out west,
02:31they lost because UCLA shot 40% from three.
02:35And then Illinois and UCLA combined shot 47% from three, Donnie.
02:41So, we're supposed to believe now that Purdue,
02:44instead of being a top-five team like they were for the first 18 games of the season,
02:49no, no, no.
02:49Now they're just a four-point favorite going to Assembly Hall.
02:55I'm not buying it here.
02:56This is far, I mean, far too good, a Purdue team here.
03:01But had they won those back-to-back games, Donnie,
03:05this line would be double digits.
03:07Purdue is a favorite.
03:08The fact that you're only getting them at four, four and a half,
03:10well, that's what we call a discount in the business.
03:13Talking about undefeated teams, Joe.
03:16Heading over to the MAC.
03:17Your boys, not UMass.
03:18It's actually Miami, Ohio that's undefeated.
03:21Line opened up double-digit favorite overnight.
03:23Now we're seeing it come back to nine and a half.
03:24Just to give you a little imprint of how these two teams play in conference,
03:28the number one efficient most offense in that conference by far is Miami.
03:32And by the way, Miami gets to the free throw line better than any other school
03:35in that conference.
03:36You know who fouls more?
03:37UMass.
03:38You know who's the best three-point shooting team in that conference?
03:39It's Miami.
03:40You know who scores more inside the paint efficiently than any other team?
03:43It's Miami, Joe.
03:45Miami should win this game.
03:46But can they cover the nine and a half?
03:47What's that spread line?
03:49Yeah.
03:50Well, again, Donnie, we've been talking about this, you know,
03:53this team for a while now.
03:54And they just, listen, you can't go undefeated and rattle off this many wins
03:58in a row without a little bit of luck, right?
04:00And that's exactly what they had in back-to-back games.
04:04They basically played the same game.
04:05And they won in overtime against Buffalo and Kent State.
04:09They make big shots when it matters the most here.
04:14And now, of course, they're taking on a UMass team that this will be interesting.
04:19Can they keep it rolling?
04:20None of this is going to matter unless they win the MAAC tournament anyway, Donnie.
04:24So we all know that.
04:25The at-large is not going to be in play for them.
04:29So they can keep winning.
04:31But ultimately, the only thing that matters with this team, keeping in mind when you're
04:34looking to bet them, is that they just make it to the MAAC tournament and win it.
04:39They know it.
04:40We know it.
04:41The market knows it.
04:42But nine and a half does feel a little excessive for a team that just won back-to-back games
04:48in overtime.
04:49Spending your money is what the government does inefficiently.
04:53Hey, look at that.
04:53Taxes are raised up here.
04:55More power to the people.
04:56Absolutely not.
04:57Let's take a look at college sports.
04:59Now, most teams, Joe, jockey for position to get in a very lucrative contract because
05:04the TV deals carry the day.
05:07No conference makes more money than the Big Ten.
05:10Rutgers is in the Big Ten.
05:11That's a windfall for the athletic program, isn't it?
05:13Apparently not.
05:15Rutgers' athletics deficit has hit a record, $78 million.
05:19In 2024-2025, new AD Kelly Zinn says, quote, it's got to get better.
05:25So when you get a TV deal worth probably hundreds of millions of dollars, how do you run a budget
05:32deficit of $78 million?
05:35It doesn't make any sense.
05:36But that's the state of New Jersey, which I live in.
05:39Absolutely corrupt.
05:40Horrible governors every year.
05:42Horrible state senators every year.
05:44Horrible with everything.
05:45Your money management.
05:46And you know what the best part about it is?
05:47They continuously ask for money and we can't do anything about it.
05:50So Rutgers University operating just like the state of New Jersey, crushing their own
05:55people, sign of the times, Joe, just the way it is.
05:58It's impossible to happen, but it happens.
06:00It's New Jersey.
06:02Well, and it happens in states like New Jersey because they keep robbing Peter to pay Paul
06:08here.
06:08I mean, the financials, Donnie, show a 73% fringe rate.
06:13So that means an employee for the athletic department making $100,000 is considered to
06:20be making $173,000 because they have to also account for their retirement funds, all of
06:27the health care, all of that.
06:29So basically, they're paying for some coach's retirement from 1955 because they keep borrowing
06:36and stealing from that retirement fund every year that they have to keep tacking it on every
06:42year.
06:42So it's very easy to run a deficit when you continue to try to pay for things from 30 years
06:48ago.
06:49It's like if you worked at Barone Sanitation.
06:51I need those W-2s for the next 10 years.
06:53You know what I mean?
06:54Like, hey, you got to buy out somewhere.
06:56They're expensive packages.
06:57They're golden parachutes there.
06:58And away you go.
06:59Rutgers running a deficit.
07:00You know, we're also going to be running a deficit tonight, Joe, against Michigan State.
07:04As Michigan State comes to town, Izzo and the boys, two touchdown favorites over Rutgers at
07:10what was formerly known as the RAC.
07:13136.5 points is the total listed there.
07:15What happened, Rutgers?
07:16Used to be able to protect the RAC at this point.
07:18Now, also, I think it's Jersey Mike's Arena.
07:21Like, that's not making up the deficit here.
07:23We went from the RAC to Jersey Mike's, and we still can't make up these funds.
07:25Oh, Rutgers.
07:26Are they getting pasted tonight, Joe?
07:27Oh, no, they're going to get pasted in a very big way because that team is just awful, Donnie.
07:34Not awful Michigan State, which will have their way here.
07:38And you know how it works in the Big Ten.
07:39Everybody loves beating up on the lesser teams here.
07:42And, yes, Michigan State is no exception.
07:45They will do exactly the same to a terrible Rutgers squad right now.
07:49Did you know Louisville was up 25-24 with about three to four minutes to go in the first half?
07:55Did you know Louisville got beat by 31 points because the offense just absolutely shut off in the second half?
07:5945 points scored by Duke.
08:0224 for Louisville.
08:03You live by the three.
08:04You die by the three.
08:05It didn't work out in their favor yesterday at all.
08:09They died by everything.
08:10They couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat.
08:13And it was great for them to be able to get Mikel Brown Jr. back, who I think was 0-8 in the first half and went 1-13 with three turnovers for the game with seven points.
08:25I mean, just absolutely terrible here.
08:29And that was it.
08:30I mean, 3-22, I think, from the field for Ryan Comwell, too, their other number two scorer.
08:35Yeah, it could not have gone any worse for Louisville last night.
08:39The three ball wasn't falling for a while for BYU as Arizona was extending their lead.
08:43Arizona ended up winning this game 86-83.
08:46And I got to tell you, I like to watch the highlights, like the second-half rundowns when I wake up in the morning.
08:51And I see the final score.
08:52I'm like, ooh, that was a really close game.
08:53Like, if I would have had Arizona at minus 1-1.5, I think I would have had to call an inquiry on what the heck was going on with the referees late in that basketball game.
09:01But Arizona wins.
09:02They block a shot when they were only up one point without three seconds to go.
09:05Got to the foul line.
09:06Splash two threes.
09:07A harmless, you know, he from half court missed.
09:10And Arizona came away with a victory.
09:11They're 21st of the season.
09:12BYU with a crazy comeback.
09:15And also some crazy calls down the stretch by the refs.
09:18Yeah, I mean, listen, BYU trailed by 19 about halfway through that second half, Donnie.
09:24They went on a nice 12-2 run.
09:26And then, but unfortunately, they just ran out there.
09:30And, yeah, that was the whole thing.
09:32BYU's biggest problem this year is their defense isn't as good as people think it is.
09:38And their offense goes these ridiculously long droughts without scoring.
09:43And then they score in bunches.
09:44But against a team like Arizona, you know, you're going to bury yourself too big a hole and not be able to climb out of it.
09:50And that's exactly what happened.
09:52Yeah, what happened, and also, by the way, with Arizona, that's one of the few teams in college basketball that doesn't rely on the three-point shot when you know BYU does.
09:59BYU hit a couple three-pointers to open up the game when ice cold there.
10:02Then got real hot in the second half, but too hot too late at that point.
10:05Arizona with a great win there, trying to stay undefeated for the regular season, along with Nebraska, who plays tonight as a double-digit underdog.
10:12And also, we preview Miami-Ohio roughly as a double-digit favorite in that game to see if those undefeateds can stay there.
10:18Nebraska is going to take on Michigan tonight, as we just talked about.
10:21Ten-and-a-half point favorites from Michigan at home against Nebraska.
10:25155-and-a-half, Joe.
10:26You previewed this already today as we lined you up on some spread lines.
10:29Give the people a second thought on Nebraska and Michigan.
10:33Well, I mean, let's face it.
10:34This should be a fun game.
10:36But the problem, again, is strength of schedule.
10:39Nebraska, you win the games.
10:41That's great.
10:42But they have played one top 25 offense, and that was Illinois.
10:47And then they only played one top 25 defense.
10:50That was Michigan State.
10:52And by the way, coincidentally, both of those games were the games that they barely ended up winning.
10:58So now you get a top 25 offense, top 25 defense in Michigan on the road.
11:04We're going to learn a lot about Nebraska here tonight.
11:07Purdue and Indiana are going to take place tonight.
11:10At Indiana, and how about this?
11:12Purdue is the favorite.
11:13Minus five-and-a-half points here.
11:15A total of 152-and-a-half.
11:17Who's going to win this game?
11:18State versus state competition.
11:21Yeah.
11:22To me, I mean, again, is this a top five team, Donnie, like they were for the first 18 games of the season?
11:29I mean, they went on a crazy West Coast trip, four games in 10 days, and then lost at home to Illinois.
11:36And now they're owing both of their last two.
11:39But they're now going to go 0-3?
11:42I think this is a great value spot to back the Purdue Boilermakers, who are better than this Indiana team.
11:50Yeah, pretty good card of college basketball once again tonight as we start to shift center stage to college.
11:55We're getting into the month of February, which will start next week.
11:57And again, it happens fast.
11:58It's rapid.
11:59You go right from conference championships in the lower divisions here all the way through to the majors.
12:04And then we have March Madness right on top of that end selection Sunday.
12:08Talk to me, Joe.
12:16We got college basketball, hockey, tennis, all over the place.
12:20Where are you going for your best bet today?
12:22Well, we're going to go to Belarus handball.
12:25No, I'm kidding.
12:25We are going to go, Donnie.
12:27If it ain't broke, we ain't fixing it here.
12:30And I've been telling you guys for weeks now, watch this Miami of Ohio basketball team.
12:36They are 20-0, and we just watched Arizona win.
12:42So they and Nebraska, who's also playing tonight, are the only other two undefeated teams in college basketball.
12:48Only Nebraska's got to take on Michigan, and Miami of Ohio has to take on UMass at home.
12:54Now, listen.
12:55They are 7-0 in games decided by single digits.
12:59You don't go 20-0 without a little bit of luck, right?
13:02And I'd rather be lucky than good sometimes, Donnie.
13:04But the reality is UMass having to travel to take on this Miami team, who I think is still underrated.
13:13UMass is taking money overnight because I think now the public is going, who is this Miami of Ohio team?
13:20They shouldn't be laying double digits.
13:22They're going to win by double digits tonight.
13:25Lay the nine and a half, Donnie.
13:26Yeah, Miami should light them up from three-point range in that game to get to the free-throw line
13:31and put away their opponent tonight and cover by double digits.
