00:00I think in 2025, July, we saw one of the lowest figures in terms of crime on the island for the last 12 to 15 years.
00:12And the preliminary results for December, last December, that's last month, would have shown an even lower figure.
00:21So we are still trying to find out when last we had that figure.
00:24That should take us to the lowest crime rate in excess of 15 years in Tobago in December.
00:32Assistant Commissioner of Police Earl Eli says crime is at an all-time low.
00:38Thus far for January, we are on paramedic backers and we are trending to even decrease the numbers for December last year.
00:48So we are experiencing extremely reduced levels of crime in Tobago in December and now into the early part of January.
00:56We are way below what we had last January this time, way, way below.
01:01And I'm saying if the trend continues, it may be a new benchmark that might take us into the lowest crimes for the past 20 years or so in Tobago.
01:13So I'm saying that Tobago is in a good space.
01:14There are 15 electoral districts, 99 polling divisions, 4 returning centers and 117 polling stations to be manned.
01:25Officers are increasing patrols with additional personnel arriving from Trinidad and maintaining a high security presence at political meetings for both the PNM and TPP.
01:37The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has committed to upholding law and order throughout the election period and beyond, including the pre-election phase, polling day and the post-election period.
01:54Our primary responsibilities include ensuring public safety and order at all stages of the electoral process, providing security for election materials, including ballot boxes and documents, supporting the secure movement of election materials between returning centers and polling stations.
02:18Officers aim to ensure voters can cast their ballots in a secure environment.
02:25A structured command framework is in place to oversee the TTPS's operational activities for the elections.
02:34This includes designated senior officers responsible for overall coordination, strategic decision-making and operational oversight from the pre-election period through the stand-down.
02:50Additional lawmen from Trinidad are expected on island to augment the present force.
02:56We have received and are in the process of receiving the numbers that we requested, which is what we deem as being sufficient to assist us in ensuring that elections run smoothly.
03:09I can't give any numbers, of course, for security reasons.
