00:00Former Trinidad and Tobago keeper batsman Stephen Katwaru resides in the USA where he works as a cricket coach.
00:06Based in New Jersey, Katwaru is attached to the Falcons Cricket Club with the aim being to develop players to go on to bigger things.
00:13Being the head coach for Falcons Junior Sports Club, it's a privilege to be a part of all these wonderful players' success.
00:21For the past three years, we've been working really hard towards each and every one goal.
00:29I have generated and created plans for each and every player to follow so that they can move on and try to reach the ultimate goal,
00:38which is playing for the USA National U19 team or the senior team.
00:44Katwaru says his goal is to build the sport and make it as strong as possible in the USA.
00:49And he does have the qualifications as he completed his level for coaching to take him far in his career.
00:55I must say it's a big asset to my coaching piece.
01:01Now I feel so confident going into the net or even being a part of a game
01:07where now I can help all my players try to overcome some of their situation.
01:14We keep learning every day as players, as coaches.
01:17I thought I really needed to get this achievement.
01:22It was really a tedious and tiring course.
01:28But at the end of the day, it's with it.
01:31I really enjoy being a part of that level four.
01:35What pleases Katwaru is the fact that interest in the sport is growing in the United States.
01:40For him, there's no looking back.
01:41The progression here in the U.S. as a coach started a couple of years back
01:46with a very small group of 20 to 25 kids
01:51and now reaching across over 100 kids.
01:57I can safely say that the development of the sport is growing rapidly.
02:03Part of his accomplishments included coaching a young New Jersey team
02:07that won a title for the first time.
02:09And it's something he will cherish forever.
02:12We created history for the first time, winning this tournament
02:15and bringing it back to New Jersey.
02:19For me as a coach, I was pleased.
02:20I was happy.
02:21I was so proud of my boys.
02:26We put in a lot of work, hard work in the preparation stage.
02:31And for the youngsters, it's a great platform for them to move on to the USA, U15, U19
02:40and the senior team to make a name for themselves.
02:43Katwaru is married to Nikisha, who is the sister of current TNT coach Riyad Emrit.
02:47A father of one, Katwaru finds ways to balance his work and family life.
