Seth and Sean give credit where it's due in Acknowledge Me, including one Tommy Togiai!
Transcript
00:00All right, Payne and Pendergast with you. Let's do Acknowledge Me. Each week on Monday,
00:03we acknowledge big performances from over the weekend. We loosely define the word big. Some
00:09of them are positive. Some of them we have a good chuckle with. But this one, as long as we're
00:13talking about Tommy Togiai, we do need to acknowledge Tommy Togiai. He did end up getting
00:17in the end zone in this game. Acknowledge Me. Here we go. Five seconds to go. First down Colts at
00:22their 25. Leonard is to jump down. Takes it across the 30. Ladder is back to Pittman. Pittman throws
00:29it back to Leonard. And Leonard is going to be sacked. He gets rid of the ball. Togiai
00:35picks it up. Togiai across the five. Togiai into the end zone. Touchdown, Tommy Togiai to
00:42end the game. And the Texans win their 12th. What a way to finish the season.
00:49So Tommy Togiai, I said to you when he crossed the goal line, said that touchdown meant something
00:57to somebody out there. Of course, I'm talking about the dark arts of wager. Yeah. And I know
01:02that at least one in-game spread had fallen to Texans minus seven and a half. Yes. So there were
01:09some, some happy Texans fans who maybe made, uh, made some money off of that off of Tommy Togiai
01:14Togiai barrel in his way in that offensive lineman bounced right off of him. They bet
01:19the, the first guy, he broke the tackle and then knows for the goal line dove for the goal
01:24line. A couple of the most humiliating things that happened to the Colts yesterday was one
01:28Tommy Togiai just looking like an, like a, an absolute unit running in like that's what
01:34he was born to do. Um, but then also jail jail and no trucking the kicker. Oh, poor Blake groupie
01:42Blake groupie bounced off of Jalen. No Alston spawn like Elway in that super bowl. And it
01:47looked like Jalen Noel was completely unaffected by it. Like he had a force, like he had a force
01:51field around him. He looked like Tecmo bowl, Christian Akoye on that. And you're like, well,
01:55is Jalen Noel a big guy? No, no, no. He's the same size as groupie. He's the smallest guy on the team.
02:01Yeah. He's smaller than Kaimi. We'll just give you the numbers. Six field goals in a game ties.
02:11The Texans record for field goals in one game, 44 field goals ties the NFL record for most in a
02:17season. They should have stopped the game. Tommy Togiai kick one at some point. Yeah. I heard
02:24they walk through to stop the game because the bangles, the bangles, the bangles had the nerve to
02:31complain about the fact that they stopped the game when miles Garrett broke the season record
02:37for sacks. It'll be on the petty cast. Yeah. Jamar chase both. Um, uh, the Zach Taylor,
02:43Zach Taylor. Thank you. And Jamar chase both complained about it and Jamar chase.
02:49It really annoyed me because he said, I hope if I ever do something like that,
02:52they'll stop the game for me. Yeah. Watch a football game every now and then Jamar chase.
02:57That's what they do when big records are broken. They stop the game and they do a little,
03:02a little impromptu ceremony, single season record for receiving yards. They'll stop the game for you.
03:08If you ever break career receiving yards or something like that, they'll, uh, if it's a big NFL
03:12record, they stopped, they stopped the game. In fact, let's, and then, oh, no, no. But so, uh,
03:17what, what they were also complaining about was, Hey, we were trying to run hurry up there and we
03:21wanted to get up the line. So they ended up having a timeout and they gained zero yards on the next
03:25two plays. Sorry. We disrupted your, your, the, the genius that is the Cincinnati Bengals this year.
03:31Sorry, Zach Taylor. Good luck retaining your quarterback in the off season. Hey,
03:36while we're, while we're on this, let's acknowledge miles Garrett knowledge.
03:39Here's what the, the record breaking sack sounded like first down pressure. He's sacked and there
03:48it is a record that has stood nearly a quarter of a century as a new leader is 30 year old miles
03:55Garrett records his NFL record 23rd sack of the year. There you go. Breaking the record held
04:01previously by Michael Strahan and TJ watt 22 and a half in a season. I saw a clip from Strahan going,
04:07well, I have the 16 game, uh, regular season record and, and, uh, miles has the 17.
04:13There's some validity to that. If I were, uh, if I were Michael Strahan, I wouldn't be the one
04:17saying it. I'd have my minions do it for me. Yes. There's plenty of people out there that will
04:21back you on social media. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm sorry. It does kind of,
04:26it kind of stinks. Some of these records that have fallen because of 18 games get ready for it.
04:30I'm not proud of the Texans having tied the most field goals in a season. That's not a good thing.
04:35It's good. It's good for Kaimi. Yeah, it's bad for the Texans often. If I could have one request,
04:42I would request the Texans stop shooting off the cannon when the field goal is a result of
04:48red zone failure. It's too much positive reinforcement. Yes. The long now Kaimi,
04:52I think all of Kaimi's field goals yesterday were all at least like 45 yards and longer.
04:57He kept a bunch of long ones. The long ones are fine. It's the ones where they stall inside.
05:02I'll even, I'll even limit it to the 10 yard line. Okay. Yeah. If they stall on the goal line,
05:07or yeah, if they stall on goal to go, don't fire the cannon.
05:09Cal and Hannah are coming in studio tomorrow at 930. Should we request that from them? Yeah.
05:14Okay. We'll see what happens. Plus it saves precious resources. You might need that gunpowder.
05:20Yeah, it's true. Never know nowadays, man. Um, so that was miles tattoo. Yeah. E my
05:28We're acknowledging it. Tets, Tetsuya, if you're listening, um, we appreciate it. Uh,
05:34he was at the Texans game yesterday. He was sitting in one of the luxury suites with Jim Crane. I don't
05:40know if crane has a suite there or not. I'm pretty sure he does. I've run into him a couple of times
05:44going up the elevator. Okay. He was sitting in a suite with Jim Crane and, um, and he, he, they,
05:49they acknowledged him in the stadium and he fired up the H's Tetsuya. E my, yeah, he's a Houstonian
05:57officially. He was also standing above, uh, the section of wherever that suite was. There's a
06:02sports radio, six, 10 banner underneath it. I saw that. Yeah. So he's basically endorsing us.
06:07We need to turn that in. That's the way I take it. We need a poster of that.
06:09That's the way we can have his translator explain it to him. That's right. For a price. That's right.
06:16Um, so Tetsuya, welcome to, uh, welcome to Houston. I wonder if he's, uh, I wonder how
06:20much of an American football fan he is or knows about it at all. I would say yesterday's game.
06:24If you don't know anything about it and you went to yesterday's game, I would say I would have become
06:28a fan. It was very back and forth. Yeah. A lot of big plays in the game. So, um, we'll have to have
06:32him on and, uh, as we, uh, we'll let's get a weekly exclusive with EMI with EMI. Can you get on that?
06:39Can you organize it for me? Yeah. I'm all over it. I'm all over it. I just got to learn Japanese
06:44in the next, uh, you know, month or so. Um, cause I like to go directly. I don't like to go through
06:50the translator. No, I can't trust any translator. I like, I'm a sales guy. I like to go directly to
06:54the decision. I know a smattering of Spanish. Not as much as I'd like to. And there's still times
06:59where I'm kind of like, I, I don't, I hope I don't insult somebody that player talker than
07:06translator did. What are you leaving out? You know, or the facial expression doesn't match
07:11what the translator is saying. Yep. Um, all right, Brevin Jordan. Acknowledge me.
07:17Ed Block Courage Award winner for, uh, for 2025 for the Texans. I always acknowledge the Ed Block
07:24Courage Award winner, Seth, because in 2004, Seth Payne. Acknowledge me.
07:30The Ed Block Courage Award winner. You, that's your favorite. The actual physical trophy that
07:35you've received. Yeah. I don't like the award itself. I always felt weird about getting,
07:40uh, or what I felt weird about getting just because it's, you know, you're getting awarded
07:44for being injured. It's the attack, the rehab, the way you attack the rehab that you're getting
07:49the award for. But I also don't like that. It's called the courage award. Cause it feels like
07:52the classic, like, Ooh, he's so courageous. Ooh, he got a orthopedic injury. Yeah.
07:59Uh, it's named for the Ed Block Courage House in Baltimore, which does some really good work
08:04for, uh, with, with children. That's right. So that's where the courage part, part comes from.
08:09That's right. So Brevin Jordan. Yeah. No, I'm excited for Brevin that he gets that cool
08:13pewter helmet. It's an awesome trophy. It's a real helmet coated in pewter and it's badass.
08:17It's really cool. It's really cool. I tried to put it on my head once. I couldn't get past the
08:21pewter chin strap. Looking like the tin man with your pewter helmet on right there. Um, okay.
08:28Now we get to some other acknowledgements here that are more ironic than anything else.
08:32The New York jets acknowledge me. We acknowledge their defense, which managed to go 17 games without
08:39even accidentally getting an interception somewhere along the way. That is a cave on Wallace type
08:43effort. 17 aims having the ball bounce off their face. That's really hard to do. It is. It seems
08:52impossible. You would have think that like I'm watching the game last night and TJ Watt has one land in his
08:57belly, just fall. Even, you know, when pitchers get, when pitchers hit home runs, it feels almost
09:03like, gosh, guys who are horrible, bad, you know, like they're like, Oh, okay. When a pitcher hits
09:09a home run, I mean, um, it happens. It happens. You'd think at some point, no matter how bad
09:16a defense you are, something's just going to fall into your, into your bread basket.
09:21How tempted was Aaron Glenn to actually suit up for the jets this year? He probably would have had
09:24a better shot at it. If Aaron Glenn had started at cornerback at the age of 50 something, he would
09:28know where to be. Yeah. He, you know, he'd have gotten one just out of, out of being in the right
09:32position. Yep. I think part of it is it's, uh, it's a snowball effect though, too, where teams are
09:38up on you so often that you're not going to make any risky throws. They're just running the clock out.
09:44Yeah. Yep. Yeah. You think they'd have gotten one somewhere along the way, but they didn't.
09:48Similarly, Chris Ballard, GM for the Colts is going to retain his job. He's back for another
09:55season in 2026 and somehow manages to stay employed despite five straight seasons with no playoffs,
10:03one playoff win in nine seasons right over there at NRG stadium in 2018.
10:09zero. How about this one? Zero AFC South titles in nine seasons. And this has been by most
10:17measurements, the worst division in football during that time. Yeah. Uh, you know, the Texans had a
10:22couple of good teams along the way at any given time. They're in good team or two good teams,
10:27but it's a, it's one of the easier, it has been one of the easier divisions. You would have thought
10:31he'd have stolen one somewhere along the way. At some point though, too. I mean, I used to,
10:35because the Colts put together good rosters and I would, I would say, man, you know what? I think
10:40Ballard really knows what he's doing. It's just, it's hard to find a quarterback, but now you're
10:44nine years into it and you look around and you're like, I, I, it seems that in the last nine years,
10:49quite a few teams have, uh, have found quarterbacks. Where's our quarterback? Exactly.
10:55It's a Daniel Jones. Nobody really knows who's it right. Who's it going to be next year?
10:59He's got an Achilles tendon. He's not under contract. Yeah. And he was actually starting
11:04to fall apart a little bit, even before he tore his Achilles. He was before the fibula injury.
11:09Yep. We'll acknowledge the Colts as a team as well. Excuse me. First team in the super bowl era
11:15to at one point be six games over 500. They were eight and two and then end the season with a losing
11:21record. That's almost as hard to do as not have an interception in the entire season. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
11:26And I know I I'm going to give this public service announcement every time because I,
11:31we always get at least one text or one comment about, oh yeah, but look,
11:35watch what's going to happen. The Colts will be awful next year and they'll, they'll stumble into
11:39tanking and do a good quarterback. No, they don't have a first round draft pick in the next two years.
11:44Yes. That GM kept his job. The only way they can tank is if they somehow trade back for their picks
11:49from the jets. Yep. And Kevin Costner, those will be bad picks. And Kevin Costner ain't walking
11:55through that door. Yeah. He managed to do it in draft day. I, Ballard is no Costner. I will tell
11:59you that right now. Um, MTV. Acknowledge.
12:06Past week all their music channels. I guess they have multiple music channels. As you can see,
12:10I don't watch MTV as much anymore. It was forever. When there was only one MTV,
12:14the joke would always be like, they don't actually play music all that much anymore. But I bet as they,
12:19as you start expanding into the world of ESPN Ocho and everything where you've got more,
12:24they probably added, they probably added back more music than they had had before. 1981 through 2025.
12:30I remember man, when I was in, I was in junior high and high school in the eighties, especially
12:34in junior high where we didn't have driver's license. The big thing we would, we would get
12:37together on Friday nights and watch MTV. You would sit and watch music videos. It was,
12:42uh, it's going to, it wasn't a more wholesome time. We were watching Madonna riding around
12:46on the ground in lingerie. It wasn't, there was nothing wholesome about it. We're watching
12:50Paula Abdul. Yeah. Uh, just, uh, basically have, uh, have soft core probably action on. Yeah.
12:57Explain to the kids that there was a time where it was worth watching Madonna roll around on it.
13:01And Paula Abdul. And Paula Abdul. Uh, the, but, but then road rules killed the video star.
13:06Yeah. Yeah. That road once road rules came out and reality TV took over. That was it for music
13:13on music television. That was it. So they shut it down. Uh, it looks like you want to acknowledge
13:17the official who ejected Alec Pierce. Sorry, son rules are rules. This is, and then you touched me
13:25and people were appropriately peeved at the fact that Alec Pierce was still sitting there on the bench.
13:30Yeah. Everybody was starting to wonder. I myself, I'm like, did I miss a rule change or something?
13:35He's been disqualified. Why is he still there on the mat? Not that he was doing anything,
13:39you know, for the Colts or anything, but it was annoying. Yeah. And finally had to get out.
13:44He apologized, grazed up against on his way out. But, uh, you were kicked out of the game
13:51and the game is the whole area here, buddy. When, uh, Alec Pierce was leaving and he reached out to
13:56shake. I can't remember. He was shaking his hand or something. And I think he might've tapped on
13:59on my shoulder. I was like, Oh, you're going to, this dude's going to flag him again.
14:03Oh my God. Yeah. That guy, that guy, he was, I feel like that guy's got something going on at
14:10home or something. Yeah. He's just didn't get his Christmas bonus or something. Yeah.
14:14You can see the look in his face. Like he just wasn't having it. He was waiting. He was like,
14:18I wish him, I wish it. I wish a dude would touch me. And he did. That was big for the, I wish you
14:24would. That was, that was big. He, Alec Pierce was the best player on the field yesterday.
14:28That was big for the Texans.
