00:00A U.S. Marine was stabbed to death during a massive street brawl in Wilmington, North Carolina,
00:04and now video of the incident circulating online has prompted a backlash over police response.
00:09The footage shows multiple men fighting in the middle of the street last Saturday around 2 a.m.
00:14Cops show up and use pepper spray to break up the melee. Seconds later, the camera pans to find
00:1921-year-old Daniel Montano hunched over with a pool of blood at his feet. You see him pointing
00:24toward his neck, apparently pleading for help. Officers scramble to assist, and a witness removes
00:29his shirt, ties it around Montano's neck, and applies pressure trying to staunch the bleeding.
00:34So somewhere in all that chaos, this guy had been stabbed. He and another stabbing victim
00:38were rushed to the hospital, where Montano later died. Critics of the police response say that
00:43cops didn't act quickly enough to break up the fight or help Montano, which they claim the video
00:47shows. But Wilmington's chief of police thinks the video fails to paint the full picture, saying,
00:53quote, they have no idea who is who. They don't know who's a suspect, who's a victim. They just
00:58know there's people fighting in the street. The they here being the cops who responded to the scene.
01:04Authorities have released photos of a person of interest in the case, a man with dreadlocks
01:08wearing a denim jacket, denim jeans, a pink shirt, and white shoes with blue and red accents.
01:12I'll link to the post's story in the show notes so that you can see the suspect for yourself.
