00:07This busy strip on the Sunshine Coast, last night the scene of a shocking alleged hit and run.
00:13A man accused of ploughing his car into eight pedestrians before driving off.
00:19We're treating this as intentional, a deliberate act.
00:22One of those injured, a 24 year old woman was flown to the Brisbane hospital in a critical condition.
00:28She came from New South Wales to visit some family members as a surprise
00:32and was only meant to be staying here for a couple of days.
00:35She was minding her own business walking on the side of the road when she was struck by this vehicle.
00:39Three others, two 18 year old men and a 19 year old,
00:42were taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment but have since been released.
00:47My heart goes out to anyone who has been impacted by that incident.
00:52Detectives say this incident was allegedly sparked by a minor altercation
00:56between a group of men and the driver in the moments beforehand.
01:00The males, I believe, were crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing
01:04and the male driver took offence to that.
01:07The girls were unknown to the other males and just happened to be walking on that sidewalk at that time.
01:14The driver allegedly fled the scene and was found at a nearby apartment a short time later.
01:19A 38 year old Maroochidore man, who police say is an international tourist,
01:24has now been charged with eight counts of attempted murder.
01:28Police are urging for anyone with information that may assist detectives with their investigations to come forward.
01:34The accused is expected to appear before the Maroochidore Magistrates Court tomorrow.
