00:01The focus in Queensland overnight has been through the Wide Bay and Burnett, where some
00:06areas there saw 100, 200, a couple of gauges even got near 250 millimetres in the period
00:11since 9am yesterday, so another really wet day and a wet night across parts of Queensland.
00:17We keep seeing these localised spots that get much higher totals than anywhere else.
00:21So because of that we've got a major flood warning on the Mary River at Tyro, where major
00:27flooding is possible later tonight and early tomorrow morning, so plenty of water moving
00:31through that catchment and there's a host of other flood warnings current right across
00:35Queensland as well because it's been such a wet week.
00:38Many areas have seen 300 plus millimetres over the last seven days and there's a bit more
00:42to come through the rest of today and potentially a little more tomorrow as well.
00:47Yeah absolutely, really important for people to keep an eye on the warnings in their local
00:52areas.
00:53David, can you give us a bit of an idea of the outlook over the next couple of days?
00:58Can anyone in Queensland look forward to this weather easing in the coming days?
01:05Yeah, there's a couple more days of storms on the way, so for Queenslanders it will start
01:09to feel a bit more like your typical springtime severe thunderstorm outbreak and those severe
01:14thunderstorms extend right across the eastern seaboard today.
01:17So particularly for New South Wales, we've already got severe thunderstorm warnings current through
01:23far western New South Wales, Bourke, Cobar, places like that and up through south western Queensland
01:29as well.
01:30So there's a line of thunderstorms moving through there at the moment and then there's
01:33more lines of thunderstorms to come later today.
01:35So severe thunderstorms are likely right through western New South Wales, including the ACT,
01:40including Canberra, probably in the late afternoon today and through northeastern Victoria as well
01:46and up into south western Queensland where that warning is current.
01:48So severe storms likely later today across a broad area and severe storms may also reach
01:54Brisbane and the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast later today as well as that Wide Bay area,
01:59which has seen a heap of rain overnight. So flash flooding is a real risk, particularly through
02:03Queensland where the catchments are really wet, but severe storms may also reach Sydney and Wollongong
02:08later in the evening as well. So there's a huge area today guys that that's facing a risk of severe
02:14storms that could bring in various different areas, heavy rain, flash flooding, damaging winds,
02:19large hail, even destructive wind gusts are possible over 125 k's an hour. That's through the Riverina and
02:24the southwest slopes of New South Wales. So Griffith, Wagga, Albury-Wodonga, Wangaratta as well in
02:29northeast Victoria. Those areas could see stronger storms that bring destructive wind gusts.
