00:00Hi Constance. It's good to talk to you again. Hi. We spoke I guess maybe last year for good
00:05trouble so it's good to circle back. I love it. First off you know how familiar were you with
00:13Harlan Coben's novels and just Shelter in general before getting involved with the show?
00:19I wasn't familiar with them at all. I read the script first and then after reading the script
00:29and being so impressed by the script then I went and I read the first book. I read Shelter
00:35and then I did not read the second and the third book because I actually didn't want to know what
00:41happened because I was so into the mystery part of it and I didn't know what we were going to
00:50how much we were going to do of the book or if we were going to take from other books or
00:55so I kind of wanted to stay a little bit more in the secret and because my character is not in the
01:03books it wasn't like I just wanted to know what the world was and to understand what I was entering
01:10into and then I wanted to keep the rest of it secret. I wanted it to be revealed to me as it
01:16was going to be revealed to you as audience members. You know as a character that's not in the book you
01:23know how like that must be pretty exciting for you to sort of be able to sort of create this you know
01:28new character in this established world and sort of create something new. I mean it's kind of every
01:35actor's dream because it means that you get to work with the showrunner and working with Harlan Coben
01:42and he and I kind of creating and evolving the character together is every actor's dream because
01:49you're kind of like oh well what do we need to accomplish with this character and how do we do
01:55it telling it through my story instead of what has already been written. So I think it was fun for
02:02Harlan too to kind of be able to create an all new character but within a world that is such a known
02:07world for his fans. So staying you know staying true to that. Yeah without giving too much away what can
02:14you sort of say about Shira and her journey over the course of the season? Well I think you said it
02:20best she's definitely on a journey. Okay. What I can say about her is that I think she believed that
02:30her journey was only going to have to do with Mickey and when we realized that the journey has to do
02:41with her own self facing her fears facing her secrets. It becomes a coming of age story for a
02:51woman in her 50s just as much as it becomes a coming of age story for all the kids on the show.
02:56Absolutely. So that's. I love that. That's really exciting and refreshing because it's you know it's
03:03something that we all I feel like you know no matter sort of what stage of life are you and you can
03:07sort of come of age in a sense or you know realize new things about yourself go on a different path.
03:12I feel like that's very relevant. Yeah and realize that we are that you aren't stuck with your choices
03:21that you've made unless you want to choose to be stuck but instead I mean and and also it it doesn't
03:29hurt that you know she just doesn't have a choice. She's facing them head on and so now having to
03:36have the balance of figuring herself out plus trying to help Mickey figure himself out is kind
03:44of a really wonderful conflict of ways of how they are going to learn from each other.
03:50Totally. Speaking of Mickey what is the dynamic the relationship like between Shira and Mickey?
03:56It's a little conflicted and a little and and a little complicated because I think some words
04:02have been said and I think that uh Mickey has only heard one side of the story if he's heard anything
04:09um coming from a family that didn't communicate or share very much um I think Mickey is now the result
04:18of someone who doesn't have all the facts and thinks that he knows things and they're not true and they're
04:26not real so kind of uncovering all of these secrets that are of his dad's childhood which then is in
04:34reference to Shira and the parents and all that kind of stuff it's like he's they're gonna it's gonna
04:39they're gonna need some time to work through it besides their own grief and their own stuff they're
04:45dealing with so it's uh yeah they got they got a lot on their plate and there's probably lots of
04:50illumination coming and sort of discovering the truth of of what of what's happened and what's
04:56happened in the past so yeah quite quite a journey for both of them right and two yeah and I think
05:02you know two people dealing with grief in a different way um everybody deals with it differently yeah
05:07exactly well I am so excited to see it all unfold thank you so much again for taking time to speak with me
05:15thank you I'm so glad you liked it of course you have a great rest of your day and we'll talk soon
05:20okay great thank you bye
