00:00I had to defend Hannah McNair beyond our show last night.
00:05Tyler, you remember Ron yesterday getting all personal about that Cal McNair video?
00:12That's not right.
00:13It got personal.
00:14I thought that video was so good, man.
00:16So frigging funny.
00:18Everybody I've heard talked about it thought the video was funny.
00:21I don't laugh at that.
00:23That humor is not funny to me.
00:24That dry humor, that's not real funny to me.
00:26You didn't like it either.
00:27She didn't hear you say that.
00:29Ron really didn't like it.
00:31I told you, man.
00:32I just don't like the way I had him look.
00:34So based off our conversation, right, we get done with the show,
00:37and I sit down with some friends that have a kid the same age
00:43as one of the McNair's boys, and they play baseball against each other.
00:48And apparently Hannah gets a little mouthy at the Little League Park.
00:54Shocker.
00:55No.
00:57Exactly.
00:57How about that?
00:58So, I mean, like, the questions you start.
01:02After that segment, man, because it's right at the end of the show,
01:05the questions just started flooding in, man.
01:06Like, you like Hannah McNair?
01:08I said, yeah, I like Hannah.
01:10Hannah's cool as hell.
01:10What's wrong?
01:13She's a real.
01:14And I said, what happened?
01:16Little League Park.
01:17She got real mouthy at the Little League Park.
01:19Now, to be fair, I was talking to a very, very clever, like family to me,
01:24and I used to go watch her play softball, so I know how her family acts.
01:29And then I've grown up with her and her brother and everybody else,
01:33so I know how we get down on that side of town.
01:37So, I told her, I said, let's pump the brakes a little bit.
01:40Hannah would fit real – she'd fit in real good over here with the Baytown crowd,
01:44rooting for their kids at the Little League Park now.
01:46All that chirping y'all do.
01:47But apparently she – so I had to talk her off the cliff.
01:50Everybody really loves Cal.
01:52Everybody in the group really loved Cal.
01:53Mine was out of love, too.
01:54Everybody loved Cal, man, but it was real questionable about what Hannah had been up to.
01:58Apparently, Hannah got – she went off the rails at some Little League Park, I guess.
02:03I bet she gets real good and emotional.
02:06Sounded like it.
02:07Sounded like it.
02:08I had to explain.
02:09Look, man, they're from Montgomery County, man.
02:12She's just passionate, man.
02:13Passionate.
02:13They're from Montgomery County, man.
02:15They get a little loose in Little League Parks now.
02:17Just, you know.
02:17Oh, yeah.
02:18Hey, got a lot in common with them Baytown folks now.
02:21We all get loose at the Little League Park.
02:23My mom was the loudest one there all the time.
02:25Also shocked.
02:28Dog cussing the announcer for mispronouncing my last name.
02:31Like it's brown or something.
02:34Like I just – it was wild.
02:37By the way –
02:37I got you back.
02:38I know you're transitioning, Clint, but by the way, happy birthday to Hannah tomorrow.
02:43Tomorrow's old Hannah McNair's birthday.
02:45I'll be damned.
02:46Look at that.
02:46Yeah.
02:47Happy birthday, man.
02:48Hopefully we can get a win this weekend and you and Cal can celebrate.
02:51Happy 27th.
02:53So don't be rude, Ron.
02:54How do you think Hannah and Cal celebrate a birthday?
02:57Oh, he's on the grill for sure.
02:59I'm going to stay out of that one.
03:01On a grill?
03:02I'm going to step out of that one.
03:04Oh, I think everybody knows where you're going.
03:06I'm just stepping out of it.
03:08You think he grills at the house?
03:09You don't think they hit the finest restaurant in Houston?
03:11Oh, they might do that too, but I'm sure it's –
03:14As you said, if they want a good steak, you know.
03:16Oh, I don't think Hannah's settling for the grill.
03:22I think they're hitting something, some fine dining in the city.
03:26Well, I'm sure she's listening.
03:27She made text.
03:28Well, hopefully we can get a big win this weekend and everybody be happy.
03:30Happy birthday, Hannah.
03:31Oh, there you go kissing up.
03:32There you go.
03:33Trust me.
03:34It ain't kissing up.
03:34I'm just telling you, happy birthday.
03:36I don't think she thought I was kissing up last night.
03:38Well, look, we've got to get a dub against the car.
03:41And what it looks like, I think, is a big part offensively this week.
03:46NFC game, I don't know that it has a ton of bearing, Ron, on the AFC picture
03:51and what our playoff picture looks like.
03:53I think the next three games are going to be the big ones.
03:54But it's a game that there's a lot of room for improvement for the offense.
04:00And I think the biggest question here, obviously, is what does the offense look like
04:04after last week's really second half, kind of struggled second half last week.
04:08Can this offense get on track before the playoffs to get here
04:12and before the defense may, hopefully they don't,
04:15but the defense may need a little bit of help at some point in time
04:18to get a lead and to get a win?
04:20This is an interesting week, Ron,
04:22because it comes down to what should the approach this week be.
04:25Obviously get a win, right?
04:27Obviously get a win.
04:28But I think there's a couple of things that they need to get their hands around.
04:33The problems that came up in the second half last week,
04:36I think have to change this week.
04:38And really moving forward in general.
04:42The defense's ability to take Nico Collins out of a game
04:45by just bringing a corner down and wrap safety over the top
04:48and him never moving, him never getting, you know,
04:50really doing much other than cutting his splits,
04:53that has to come to a stop.
04:55That has to come to a halt.
04:56And all I want, like if you're fans out there
04:58and you're watching the Texans, before the ball is snapped,
05:01see if they're moving Nico Collins in motion this week.
05:05I think it's one of those deals where even Nick Cayley looks at it
05:09and says, we've got to get it done.
05:12Yeah, it's just unacceptable, Clint, to have a possession, it feels like,
05:21let alone an entire half that you don't have a target or a catch to Nico Collins.
05:29But that is almost hard to do.
05:32I'm good with the possession.
05:34I've got to see that my O.C. is a Texans fan.
05:36I just want to see my O.C. realize, hey, man,
05:39we need this guy more than just letting him be taken away.
05:42I understand the spread the football around thing,
05:44but there's going to come a time when you need your best player
05:48who's difficult to tackle, who can run every route in the book,
05:51and we've got to find a way to get the ball in his hands.
05:54And a big part of that is when you are struggling like you were in that third quarter,
05:58I see you, little fella.
05:59You're all right, Bubba.
05:59I see you.
06:01But when you are struggling in a quarter like that,
06:03one way to get out of that funk is to find 12 and get the ball to him.
06:06And so that's one thing that I want to – I don't care what the score is this week.
06:09That's one thing that I want to see more of from jump.
06:13I want to see 12 moving in motion.
06:15The other thing is we talked a lot about it yesterday, Ron.
06:17The quick game and the screen game are absolute must this week.
06:21And I think they're must this week because it's got to become a bigger part of our offense.
06:25They're going to run the football and play defense.
06:27We're going to minimize the risk, and that's who we are.
06:32And I'm good with that.
06:33That's exactly who we are.
06:34And if you're going to do that, the best way to maximize the ball control offense,
06:40if you will, is to have a good quick game, good screen game.
06:43You've got to make teams.
06:45If you can't protect constantly and good enough to let your receivers get downfield,
06:51we've got to be able to stretch them sideline to sideline and make them defend us
06:55the 53 and a third or 53 and two-thirds, however wide a football field is.
07:01They've got to defend sideline to sideline.
07:02The way you do that is quick game, screen game, run game.
07:05And I think they've got to incorporate more of that quick and screen game in the mix here.
07:09And I think this week, again, this week is a really, really good time to get that rolling.
07:13Well, as we talked about yesterday, that has to start being a part of you would think it is the natural thing
07:22in a passing game, one, that you can slow down pressure in a pass rush if that's what you struggle with.
07:28And if you are going to be ball control, play through our defense, the other way to help it is sustaining long drives.
07:36And I think a way to sustain long drives is you're always, even with the quick game, you're always getting five, six yards
07:44and maybe a missed tackle turns into a bigger play.
07:46But you're always ahead of schedule.
07:48You're always ahead of the change.
07:50And that would help you keep the ball.
07:52I think it goes hand-in-hand with that defensive-minded, run-the-football, control-the-clock mentality.
07:58But what you just said is the real reason, right, is we have had a –
08:01we're two coordinators in with having real problems at the line of scrimmage consistently picking up pressures.
08:09And one way you can pick, quote-unquote, pick up pressures is screen game, quick game,
08:14minimize the opportunities for that pressure to get home.
08:17And so you look around the league and just some of the more run-oriented teams,
08:23some of the better play callers.
08:25I mean, there's a lot that gets done around the line of scrimmage
08:27in terms of getting the ball out of the quarterback's hands.
08:29And a lot of that is to not let the defense tee off, not let the blitzes get home,
08:33not let a Chris Jones ruin, you know, drives in quarters of a game.
08:38So I think that just absolutely has to happen, not just because this is a bad Arizona team,
08:45but because I think they're going to need that moving forward to take some of the pressure off of our defense.
08:50I got a couple of things here real quick, Ron, that I don't know that it's –
08:53I don't even know if it's realistic to ask.
08:55But I would love to – I would love to see them establish the run
09:02and use some guys other than Nick Chubb and Woody Marks.
09:10Those guys have to play, obviously, to a certain degree.
09:12We'll see about Nick Chubb, yeah.
09:13At least one of them does.
09:15But we absolutely have to have those guys down the stretch, man.
09:18I mean, Woody Marks is the one you absolutely have to have.
09:22But Chubb, life is going to be hard for Woody Marks if we don't have Chubb.
09:25So this is more you want to see – you want to see those guys get a little bit of their load lifted
09:32as opposed to you want to see somebody else see another weapon.
09:35But I think if you go in there and you handle your business, you could –
09:39I want to see – I know who Daria Gumbawale is, right?
09:42I want to see a British Brooks.
09:44I want to see this Cody Schrager kid, Schrader kid that they signed.
09:49I mean, I loved watching him in college.
09:51I want to see if he's got a little something to the –
09:53he brings a little something to the table so that we don't look up
09:55and in two or three weeks we're in the same situation to where, uh-oh,
09:58what are you going to do with the second string running?
10:00I want to see if he's got a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit.
