Seth and Sean break down the biggest turning points for the Texans this season.
Transcript
00:00So let's get to the Texans here.
00:03Lopez, when we were leaving the studio yesterday,
00:07we got done with the show, we got done with crosstalk,
00:09and as I'm walking out, I hear John and Reggie
00:12talking about turning points in the season,
00:14and I thought John volunteered this one,
00:16which I thought was interesting.
00:18I don't know that I totally agree that this was necessarily
00:20a turning point that got the Texans' season
00:22going in the right direction again
00:24because it happened after the first three games,
00:26and it really took them eight games
00:28to kind of get their sea legs under them.
00:31But John Lopez said he thought the turning point in the season
00:33was when they let go of C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
00:36I keep going back to C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
00:39To me, that one decision.
00:41Really?
00:41Yes.
00:42That one feels like that's not even on the podium of the decisions.
00:44It is number one, and let me explain why.
00:46They brought him in and were like,
00:48and I was as guilty as anybody,
00:49boy, this guy's going to change everything.
00:50And then there came a moment when Texans decided
00:53he's a little bit too rogue.
00:55He's not doing, you know, just do your job thing.
01:00You know, do your assignment.
01:01He's not doing one play at a time.
01:03He wants his.
01:04And I think the message that was sent
01:06when they said so long to C.J. Gardner-Johnson
01:10really just galvanized what they are as a defense.
01:15Like, even that dude got cut.
01:17And if you're not doing, you know,
01:19exactly what Coach D'Amico Ryan says,
01:21you know, I think that one moment,
01:22sort of not just on the defensive side,
01:24but especially on the defensive side,
01:26told the team, we don't care who you are.
01:29We just want you to do this.
01:30And we want you to do this right.
01:31And we want you to play your role.
01:32And we want you to fit in the scheme.
01:35I thought that was an interesting,
01:37I thought, you know, I don't know.
01:38You wind up debating semantics
01:40of what a true turning point is in a season sometimes
01:42when you go through this exercise.
01:43But I thought it was,
01:44that was one that was a little off the radar for me.
01:47I would not have thought of that.
01:48But it plays into a little bit, Seth,
01:49to what you were talking about earlier in the show,
01:52where I was saying,
01:53I mentioned I was asked in an interview yesterday,
01:56what's changed about the Texans this season?
01:58What's gotten them turned around?
02:00And I said,
02:01the defense has really been a constant all year.
02:02But you made the point that,
02:03well, earlier in the year,
02:05they were good,
02:05but there were some things they weren't doing well.
02:07And one of them was C.J. Gardner Johnson
02:09going into business for himself.
02:10Right, yeah.
02:11And especially in some key and critical moments.
02:13And then reportedly kind of pointing the fingers
02:16at others when he was in the wrong.
02:20And I think that's the big part of it.
02:22I don't know what their expectations were of him
02:26from a leadership standpoint.
02:28But I think sometimes,
02:29like guys like C.J. Gardner Johnson,
02:31who aren't necessarily really wired
02:33to be leaders on a team,
02:35if they feel like,
02:36oh, all of a sudden I'm in a leadership role,
02:38they're, in their mind,
02:40what a leader is isn't what an actual good leader is.
02:44And it's that I've got to be the guy
02:45that's telling guys when they're wrong
02:47and when they're this and when they're that.
02:49The fact of the matter is,
02:49you've got a lot of young guys in the secondary,
02:52but they are very mature professionals.
02:54And I think they go about their business the right way.
02:56And I think that there's a good chance
02:58that C.J. Gardner Johnson
02:59was just a square peg in a round leadership hole
03:02that didn't exactly really understand
03:05how to go about his leadership role.
03:06And you could put that on maybe D'Amico
03:09or Cazara if you wanted to,
03:11but they saw the problem
03:14and they fixed it immediately.
03:15Or at least they put out the cancerous mole.
03:18They nipped it in the bud,
03:19as they like to say.
03:20Yeah.
03:21He did have C.J. Gardner Johnson
03:22had an interception in the Bears win last week.
03:25Oh, did he?
03:25Oh, against the, yeah,
03:27I forget who they played.
03:28And the whole thing about the,
03:31he's played for the last six games, I think.
03:34But this is C.J. Gardner Johnson
03:35and what he told the team before the game.
03:37So, like I told the guys,
03:39this is one of those where you gotta come in
03:40and really put your,
03:42put your, put your years back
03:43and really go play ball.
03:44It's about, it's gonna be a physical game,
03:45short week,
03:46and it's about who'll be the most physical team
03:48when we came out and showed it today.
03:50Yeah, there you go.
03:50Oh, okay.
03:52The, um, uh, the,
03:53that's the leadership that you want.
03:55Yeah.
03:56C.J. Gardner Johnson.
03:57Yeah, he, he's,
03:57well, he's,
03:58I mean, he's landed on his feet in Chicago.
04:00He's doing good things there.
04:01No, he's just got that.
04:02Even when you listen to him
04:03in interviews during the offseason,
04:05you can tell that this is a guy
04:07that's gonna have a jagged arc,
04:08uh, in his career.
04:10Yeah.
04:10Because, uh,
04:11I, I think it's a constant battle
04:13of, like, him kinda
04:14almost just getting slapped on the hand
04:17with a ruler
04:18and realizing,
04:19oh, okay, wait,
04:20I gotta, I gotta really tamp things down
04:22a little bit.
04:22But then he starts to explore the space
04:24a little bit too much
04:25and then he's gotta get smacked
04:26on the hand with a ruler again.
04:27It's interesting
04:28because I,
04:28my, in the brief time
04:30we got to cover him,
04:31um,
04:32I,
04:32I interviewed him at,
04:33at,
04:33in West Virginia
04:34at the Greenbrier
04:35when we were there.
04:36I found him to be delightful.
04:37It was a fun interview.
04:38He was,
04:38and we talked a little bit
04:39off the air as well.
04:40He was,
04:40I really enjoyed talking to him.
04:42I never found him,
04:43now there'll be people
04:45in the,
04:45in the building
04:45that would be listening to this
04:46right now,
04:47the Texans.
04:47I might roll their eyes
04:48when I say this.
04:49I found him to be pretty self-aware
04:51as to what his personality type was.
04:53Right, right, yeah.
04:54That's a problem.
04:55He knew what they were getting into.
04:57But you know how it goes.
04:59It's,
04:59it's the same thing
05:00as in normal real life.
05:02There's people that have issues,
05:04they know they have issues,
05:06but they can't help themselves.
05:08Right.
05:08And that's part of their issue.
05:09Like, even as they,
05:10they just can't help
05:12but sometimes just act inappropriately.
05:14But otherwise,
05:15and a lot of times,
05:16those are the people
05:16who are most interesting
05:18and engaging
05:18in certain situations.
05:19Yes.
05:20And I just,
05:20it feels,
05:21by CJ Gardner Johnson's own words,
05:24that's how I think
05:25he's described himself
05:26at various times.
05:27He just,
05:28sometimes he just can't help himself
05:29and the,
05:30the environment
05:31and the situation
05:32and the fit really matters
05:33and in Houston
05:34it just wasn't the right fit.
05:35He was,
05:36he skipped OTAs
05:37because he said himself,
05:38like,
05:39I don't think they want me around.
05:40He just came to Super Bowl champion
05:42and he thought he'd be talking
05:44way too much
05:45about his Super Bowl champion-ness.
05:47Right.
05:48Yeah.
05:48With the team.
05:48These young guys don't know.
05:49Yeah.
05:49And like,
05:50meanwhile,
05:50the Eagles had him
05:51on a pretty affordable contract
05:53and they chose to move on.
05:55They chose to move on.
05:56And the,
05:56probably the funniest moment
05:57I can remember
05:58with him being part of the Texans
05:59was at the,
06:00the season premiere event
06:02the Texans do
06:03right before the,
06:03the year starts.
06:05They do it in the bubble.
06:06It's a big gala.
06:06They raise a bunch of money.
06:07They've got,
06:08you know,
06:08a hundred tables there
06:09that people are paying for
06:10and they've got a player
06:11at each table.
06:12And so Odyssey has a table.
06:14So,
06:14so Amy and I got to go
06:15and Titus Howard was at our table.
06:17So I was sitting next to Titus
06:19the whole night
06:19talking with him.
06:20He was great.
06:21But CJ Gardner Johnson
06:22was at the next table over from us
06:24and he kept looking over at Titus
06:26and he had his Super Bowl ring on
06:27and he kept looking over at Titus
06:29just waving it like this.
06:31It was just really funny.
06:32He had this big smile on his face.
06:34That,
06:34you know,
06:35what's interesting about the,
06:36him being with the Eagles
06:37was the Eagles are in a similar situation
06:38as the Texans.
06:39They've had a lot of really good
06:40young guys in the secondary.
06:42That's right.
06:42And they felt like it was time
06:44that,
06:44yes,
06:45these guys can do it on their own.
06:46We don't necessarily need
06:48the CJ Gardner Johnson.
06:50I feel like the Texans
06:51came to that realization a lot.
06:53Yeah,
06:53yeah,
06:53yeah.
06:54The Quinn,
06:55Quinn Mitchell
06:55and Cooper to Jean
06:57are there.
06:58Derek Stingley Jr.
06:59and Kamari Lasseter.
07:00I get that.
07:01As far as turning points
07:03in the season go,
07:03because I thought
07:04it definitely was good brain food
07:06that Lopez and Reggie
07:07were dishing out yesterday.
07:08I came up with a handful of them.
07:11I would encourage texters
07:12to text in
07:12if you got a feel
07:13on what you feel
07:14some of the turning points
07:15have been
07:16in getting the Texans
07:17back to eight and five
07:19and getting them back
07:19in the playoff hunt.
07:20I thought one early one
07:22wasn't even one
07:23that had to do directly
07:24with the Texans.
07:25When they caught that break
07:26with Lamar Jackson's
07:28hamstring injury,
07:29I mean,
07:29it really felt like
07:29the Texans were snake bit
07:31the first four games
07:32of the year.
07:33You know,
07:33two games,
07:34you fumble in the red zone
07:35late in the fourth quarter.
07:37The Tampa Bay game,
07:40you know,
07:40Henry Toa Toa
07:41just lets Baker Mayfield
07:43leak out.
07:44the literally games
07:46where if you just
07:47make a play,
07:48you could have been
07:49three and O
07:49instead of O and three.
07:50Hell,
07:50even in week four,
07:51you struggled
07:52against the Titans
07:53until the fourth quarter
07:54of that game.
07:55Lamar Jackson
07:56being out
07:57for that Ravens game
07:58because that was
07:59at a stage
08:00of the season set.
08:01I mean,
08:01they were one and three.
08:02I'm like,
08:02there was no like,
08:03hey,
08:03we need to,
08:04there was no,
08:04hey,
08:05we need to vanquish
08:05the big bad wolf
08:06like there was this
08:07past weekend
08:08with the Chiefs.
08:08It was like,
08:09man,
08:10we need to win.
08:11Well,
08:11the whole thing too
08:12is that I know
08:13my immediate thought
08:14when I saw you
08:15put this in here
08:15was like,
08:16well,
08:16Lamar Jackson
08:17hasn't been good
08:17since he came back,
08:18but up to the point
08:20of his injury,
08:21he had been good.
08:22The defense was the problem
08:23with the Ravens.
08:23They were scoring
08:24a boatload of points.
08:25Yes.
08:26So that part of it,
08:27him getting injured
08:28and then turning into
08:29either not being there
08:31and what he's been
08:32since he came back,
08:33that's a much
08:34different challenge
08:35than what they've
08:37faced since.
08:38So I thought that was,
08:39I don't know if it's
08:40a turning point,
08:41definitely a break
08:41the Texans caught.
08:42You know,
08:43if Lamar Jackson plays,
08:44they probably lose
08:44that game
08:45and you're 1-4
08:46instead of 2-3
08:47to start the season
08:47going into a bye week
08:48by the way.
08:49I just,
08:49man,
08:50Lamar Jackson
08:50since he came back,
08:52it's been really bad.
08:53There's nothing,
08:54there's nothing deceptive
08:55about the numbers either.
08:56If you watch the Ravens,
08:58he's bad.
08:59I mean,
08:59in the last five games,
09:00he's had two passing touchdowns
09:02and one rushing touchdown
09:04in five games.
09:05In five games.
09:06I mean,
09:06he hasn't been above,
09:08he hasn't been,
09:09he hasn't hit 60%
09:10completion percentage
09:12in the last five games either.
09:13I'd love to know
09:14what's wrong with him,
09:15truly wrong with him
09:16physically right now.
09:17And it's clearly,
09:18it's a physical issue
09:18going on with him.
09:21Other turning points for me,
09:22I've got a few
09:23that are on-field turning points,
09:25but one other off-field one,
09:26for whatever reason,
09:28Trent Brown's insertion
09:29into the lineup
09:30at right tackle,
09:32they're not a great
09:32offensive line.
09:33I'm not saying that,
09:34but he has been a bit
09:36of a stabilizing force
09:37at right tackle.
09:38It's allowed you to put
09:39Titus Howard over
09:40at left guard,
09:40which was a disaster
09:42in the first half
09:43of the season.
09:44So by virtue of
09:46Trent Brown solidifying
09:47right tackle,
09:48you simultaneously solidify
09:50left guard.
09:51Again,
09:51not a great offensive line,
09:52but Trent Brown's first game
09:54was the Jacksonville game
09:55that started this win streak.
09:56They're 5-0 with him
09:57in the lineup.
09:58Well,
09:58I think that now
10:00what you have
10:00is veterans
10:02on both sides
10:03of the offensive ball.
10:05Like Titus Howard
10:06at left guard
10:06isn't your ideal left guard,
10:08but he's a veteran.
10:09So you've got him
10:10next to a rookie
10:11and next to Jake Andrews
10:12at center,
10:13and then you've got
10:14two veterans
10:14on the right side
10:15of the ball,
10:16and you can at least
10:17be steady,
10:18and you can be functional
10:20in a way that
10:22you probably couldn't
10:23as much before.
10:24That helped a lot.
10:25The biggest thing
10:27I worry about
10:28in matchups
10:29for the Texans
10:29offense these days
10:30or this season
10:31is, okay,
10:32does the other side
10:33of the ball
10:33have a dominating
10:34defensive tackle?
10:35Because that's what
10:36happened.
10:36Chris Jones was working
10:38them in that game,
10:39and when they would
10:40go to their six
10:41offensive line combination,
10:43that's great.
10:44You can double team
10:44Chris Jones,
10:45but then you got
10:46your Blake Fisher
10:47one-on-one
10:48versus a defensive end,
10:49and you ended up
10:49with some of the same
10:51issues you had
10:51with Blake Fisher
10:52versus defensive ends
10:53in the postseason,
10:55so moving forward,
10:57interior defensive linemen
10:58are by far the biggest
10:59thing that scares me
11:00about any opposing defense.
11:01I think that makes sense.
11:02So those are two
11:03kind of off-the-field
11:05or lineup-related.
11:06As far as on-the-field
11:07goes, I mean,
11:08it's been a lot
11:09of turning points.
11:09Really, it's been,
11:12I don't know if turning
11:12point is the right
11:13way to put it,
11:14it's been, boy,
11:15they've been walking
11:16this tightrope
11:17where the season
11:18could, you know,
11:19they could fall
11:20one way or the other.
11:21I'll say this
11:22only because
11:23Nick Casario,
11:25D'Amico Ryan's,
11:26other players
11:26after the game
11:27said that this
11:28was the play
11:29that they believed
11:30they could complete
11:31that comeback
11:31against Jacksonville.
11:32We can't talk
11:33about turning points
11:33without talking
11:34about the fourth
11:35quarter of that
11:36Jacksonville game.
11:37They were 15 minutes
11:38away, Seth,
11:39from being three and six
11:41and having their season
11:42over,
11:43and they scored 26 points
11:45in the fourth quarter.
11:46This was the play
11:47that everybody
11:48that was asked about it
11:49and D'Amico
11:50and Nick especially
11:51said this is when
11:52we started to believe
11:53we could complete
11:54the comeback
11:54when they were down
11:5529-10
11:56and Jaden Higgins
11:57scored a touchdown.
11:58Third down and 10
11:59at the Jaguars,
12:0012,
12:01Higgins in motion
12:01to the left,
12:02Mills with a gun,
12:03marks to his right,
12:04Nico Collins,
12:05short side right,
12:06Davis Mills
12:06awaits the snap,
12:07here it is.
12:08Mills in the pocket,
12:09Mills to the end zone,
12:11caught,
12:11touchdown,
12:12Jaden Higgins,
12:14the Texans score.
12:16They would get
12:16the two point,
12:17they'd be down by 11,
12:18they would go on
12:19to win 36-29.
12:21That was a big
12:22turning point
12:22in that game,
12:23but because of what
12:24that game meant
12:25to the season,
12:26I think it was
12:26a big turning point,
12:27a specific mini turning point
12:29in a game
12:29that was a turning point
12:30for the season.
12:31I mean, yeah,
12:31and it was just
12:33so improbable.
12:34The first three quarters
12:35of that game
12:35were just so miserable,
12:36and then,
12:37I mean,
12:38there was,
12:38it was two weeks
12:39in a row
12:40where we just had
12:40really,
12:41the Titans game
12:41felt like that too,
12:43where everything
12:44was just,
12:45it felt miserable,
12:46and then all of a sudden,
12:47boom,
12:47here we go.
12:48Yep.
12:48Speaking of the Titans,
12:49the following weekend,
12:51the Titans were still
12:51at a stage,
12:52I mean,
12:52that Jacksonville game
12:53only got them
12:54to four and five,
12:55so it's not like
12:57that was this past weekend
12:58where you're going
12:59eight and five
12:59by beating the Chiefs.
13:01The next week
13:01against Tennessee,
13:02you're in a dogfight
13:03against the Titans.
13:04The Titans score
13:04a late touchdown
13:05to tie the game
13:07at 13.
13:08You're driving
13:08down the field,
13:09the Titans are making
13:10plays on defense,
13:11it's third and 16.
13:12This is one of the biggest
13:13plays of the season
13:14right here.
13:14It's third and 16
13:16for the Houston 42,
13:17marks in the backfield,
13:18Mills in the gun,
13:19here's the snap,
13:19Davis firing downfield,
13:21and he's got
13:22Nico Collins
13:22on the sideline
13:23at the 40,
13:24toe tapper,
13:26they say catch,
13:28yes.
13:29All right,
13:29so there you go.
13:30We didn't get to hear
13:31the part where Andre's
13:32telling him,
13:32get up to the line,
13:33get up to the line.
13:34It's all good,
13:34man.
13:35It's all good.
13:35No,
13:36and that one too,
13:36honestly,
13:38full credit
13:38to Davis Mills
13:39in that game
13:40because he,
13:42and he talked about
13:42in the postgame,
13:43by the fourth quarter
13:44he'd kind of gotten
13:45a good feel
13:45for exactly how
13:46they were playing
13:47the Texans,
13:48what their calls were,
13:49some of the tells,
13:50and in that one
13:51at the snap
13:52he could tell
13:53that they were,
13:54the Titans were
13:55shifting into a
13:56cover two look
13:57and he hit
13:58Nico Collins
13:59exactly where he
13:59wanted to hit
14:00a big tall receiver
14:01in cover two
14:02between the safety
14:02and the corner
14:03and it was a
14:04beautiful throw.
14:05It was everything
14:05that you want
14:06out of a veteran
14:06quarterback
14:07and that's
14:09the money
14:10they spent
14:11on Davis Mills.
14:12I know people
14:12raised an eyebrow
14:13a lot of times
14:14over that.
14:15This season
14:15without it,
14:16if you had a rookie
14:17in there,
14:18if you had
14:19Riley Leonard
14:20in there,
14:21they ain't winning
14:22those games.
14:24It's not happening.
14:25I think if you had,
14:26forget about the,
14:27you're absolutely right
14:28about the rookies,
14:29I think if you had
14:29half the backups
14:30in the league,
14:30you don't go 3-0
14:31in those games.
14:32Not that Davis
14:32was great,
14:33but he did enough
14:34to win.
14:35So yeah,
14:36we're getting
14:36a lot of great
14:37answers on the text
14:38page about this.
14:39I say that
14:39because I'm looking
14:40turning point in the
14:41season,
14:41Davis Mills
14:42bringing the Texans
14:44back against the Jags.
14:46The reason
14:46is because the defense
14:49finally said
14:49that if they get it,
14:51I hate this text page.
14:52Anyways,
14:52Davis Mills,
14:54the text page
14:55chops up all these texts.
14:56Last one for me.
14:57We have a system
14:58where our computer
14:59can't do what your phone
15:00does,
15:00which shows you
15:01more than 144 characters
15:03at a time.
15:04Yes,
15:04yes.
15:04And they don't
15:06do it sequentially.
15:08It's awful.
15:09It's just terrible.
15:10Am I not being
15:11a company guy
15:11by trashing
15:12our tech system?
15:13I don't know.
15:13It sucks.
15:15All right.
15:16The last one for me
15:17as far as turning
15:19points in season
15:19was Jalen Petrie's
15:23hit on Rasheed Rice
15:24in the Kansas City
15:26win on Sunday.
15:27Mahomes takes the
15:28snap,
15:28steps to his left.
15:29Mahomes now
15:30back to the right.
15:31Mahomes being chased,
15:32throws downfield
15:33and got a man.
15:34Worthy hanging on.
15:35Took a big shot
15:36incomplete.
15:37Wow.
15:37He had it for a moment
15:38and Petrie
15:40hit him hard
15:41and he slipped down
15:42in front of the KC pitch.
15:44What a shot
15:45Petrie hit Rice with.
15:48I mean,
15:48it looked like
15:49he knocked the soul
15:50from his body.
15:51That was good.
15:53You know,
15:53Ben,
15:54listen to the crowd.
15:57We won't play
15:58the whole thing again,
15:58Ben.
15:59Just play it from the beginning.
16:00I'll down cue you.
16:00Listen to the crowd.
16:01Mahomes takes the snap,
16:02steps to his left.
16:04Mahomes now
16:04back to the right.
16:05Mahomes being chased,
16:06throws downfield
16:07and got a man.
16:09Worthy hanging on.
16:10Took a big shot
16:11incomplete.
16:12Wow.
16:12He hit the crowd.
16:13Oh.
16:15And it just started
16:15to rise.
16:16Yes.
16:16You see like,
16:17ooh,
16:17there's Rasheed Rice
16:18with the ball.
16:19Catch,
16:19yeah.
16:20About to turn her.
16:20Oh.
16:21Oh,
16:21yeah.
16:23And then that would
16:24pay dividends
16:24later on
16:25when Rasheed Rice
16:26just dropped
16:28a very easy catch.
16:29Over the middle.
16:30He would have had
16:30room to run afterwards.
16:32He might have been
16:32able to tackle him
16:33at the catch point,
16:34but if not,
16:34he had some room
16:35to run.
16:36you can't,
16:39you'll never convince me
16:40that that hit
16:41by Jalen Petrie
16:42earlier in the game
16:43wasn't a factor
16:43in that drop right there.
16:44I think it sent
16:45a message to everybody
16:46running through the
16:47middle of the field
16:48on the Kansas City
16:49Chiefs that hit.
16:50You saw that.
16:50I mean,
16:50Travis Kelsey
16:51at the end of the game
16:52bobbles that ball.
16:54He dropped the play
16:55before that too
16:56and nobody was around him.
16:57You know?
16:57Yeah.
16:58Yeah.
16:59It was
16:59that I thought
17:01that hit
17:02that hit
17:03was a microcosm
17:04of what that game was
17:05which was the Texans
17:06finally saying
17:07we're not going
17:08to be intimidated
17:09by Arrowhead Stadium,
17:11the Chiefs Mystique,
17:12the Chiefs Kingdom,
17:13all that stuff.
17:14I thought that hit
17:15perfectly symbolized
17:17what the Texans
17:19it wasn't just winning
17:2020 to 10.
17:21It was exercising
17:22some demons
17:23that you'd had recently
17:24in that stadium.
17:24You know,
17:25I think a couple things
17:27or at least a development
17:28it's not one specific moment
17:30but a few moments
17:31in the last couple games
17:32that speak to the team
17:35maybe being more veteran
17:37and the quarterback
17:38learning some lessons
17:39is D'Amico has praised
17:40C.J. Stroud
17:42in each of the last two weeks
17:44for knowing when to just
17:46throw the ball away
17:46or when to throw it in the dirt.
17:48Dirt it.
17:49And there have been times
17:50in these last two games
17:51where a previous version
17:53of C.J. Stroud
17:54would have tried
17:55to extend the play
17:56and end up making a sack
17:58and 10 yards worse
18:00or deeper than it needed to be.
18:02That's the big part.
18:03But he's thrown it
18:04at the feet of receivers
18:05or he's thrown it away.
18:06And when you've got a defense
18:08on the other side of you
18:09that you can trust
18:10to keep the game close,
18:11that's really big.
18:13That's big in the maturation
18:14of a young quarterback.
18:15Yeah, if we're looking at...
18:17Okay, that's a good one
18:18because the Seattle game
18:20was a disaster for everybody
18:21and C.J. was doing
18:22some of what you're talking
18:23about in that Seattle game.
18:25The next week
18:25against San Francisco,
18:26granted at home,
18:27granted not as tough
18:28a defense as Seattle,
18:30but I thought, C.J.,
18:31you can make an argument
18:31that San Francisco game
18:33was the best game
18:34that he's played as a pro.
18:36Yeah.
18:36Because there was no
18:37Nico Collins in that game.
18:39He was spreading
18:39the ball around the guys.
18:40He was getting the ball out fast.
18:42He didn't turn the ball over.
18:43He was 30 of 38
18:44in that game.
18:46And so that's a good one.
18:47And if we're talking
18:48about turning points
18:49in the season,
18:50it would stand to reason
18:52that if your starting quarterback
18:53had an individual
18:54turning point like that,
18:56that it's a turning point
18:57for the team
18:57because of how important
18:58that position is.
19:00You know?
19:00You know,
19:01Jalen Petrie hitting
19:02Rasheed Rice like that?
19:04Yeah.
19:04The fact that Rasheed Rice
19:05wasn't concussed or anything?
19:07Yeah.
19:07I feel like it's kind of like
19:08in a movie
19:09when you kill an entire platoon,
19:12but you let one guy live
19:14so we can go back
19:16and tell everybody else
19:17how ferocious you are.
19:18Yeah.
19:18Yeah.
19:19That's what they did
19:19to Rasheed Rice.
19:20They did.
19:20He's not going in the tent.
19:21We're going to let you live.
19:22Now you go tell everybody.
19:24I love that.
19:25And the entire league,
19:26every upcoming opponent
19:28is going to see
19:29the hit that Rasheed Rice took.
19:30Right, right, right.
19:32Yeah, you tell him.
19:32But he lived
19:33and the message he said
19:34was when he dropped it
19:35later on.
19:36Yeah.
19:36Yep, yep.
19:37Let him know.
19:38Today, any day,
19:39could be Jalen Petrie.
19:40Jalen Petrie.
19:40A glorious bastard.
19:42Could be Jalen Petrie day.
19:43Yep.
