00:00Man, Lopez, where were you when you saw this news break yesterday
00:07of Shrone Moore, the Michigan head football coach
00:10that took over after Jim Harbaugh returned to the NFL,
00:14being fired seemingly abruptly yesterday
00:18for having an inappropriate relationship with a staffer under his charge?
00:22I was elbows out fighting off a bunch of moms.
00:25I forgot about that.
00:28We'll get to that during confessions.
00:30I guess we will.
00:32But, man, this is a scandal in college football
00:35in what has already been a crazy college football season
00:39that is taking it to a whole other level.
00:42Obviously, it has all the salacious bits,
00:44but also it can have ramifications all the way across the landscape.
00:48Yeah, that's kind of the dynamic of this whole story.
00:51It was a four-hour window, and we mentioned it earlier.
00:56The first message that I got, the first tweet or whatever it was that I saw
01:00was just, Shrone Moore fired with cause.
01:04And so, like a lot of times, I'm thinking, well, maybe he, you know, whatever.
01:09I thought just me being –
01:12It's a coaching thing.
01:13I thought it was a coaching thing or I thought it was an affair.
01:15Oh, for cause usually means something nefarious.
01:18Yeah, yeah.
01:18Like, I don't know if affair specifically, but it usually means something nefarious.
01:21I'm saying where my mind went was like, oh, he probably had an affair
01:24or there was some football-related, you know, very nefarious thing.
01:28And then you start getting the story over the course of these four hours,
01:31and your jaw just drops.
01:34Yeah.
01:35And some of the reports, obviously some of them we're not going to necessarily say
01:38because they were, you know, they're unsubstantiated still or just becoming.
01:44But then as you absorb the whole thing and you kind of dig into it last night
01:48and this morning, and I'm like, this thing is not as salacious.
01:52Like, this is – the way I put it with you guys,
01:55if you thought the college football sort of coaching carousel
01:59and the past few weeks was crazy, we might just be getting warmed up.
02:03We might just be getting warmed up.
02:05Yeah, it kind of went from a little bit of pointing and laughing to,
02:09damn, this is kind of sad.
02:10Well, yeah, because at first it was just like, all right,
02:11they fired their coach for cause.
02:13And we were – I mean, we'll talk more about it.
02:15Like, there are some stories, especially in the college sports space,
02:19where you go, oh, that's a funny story because, like,
02:21who ultimately is being hurt tangibly in these places, right?
02:26And I guess you could say, especially with a sexual relationship
02:28where there's power dynamics, there's, you know, potential for hurt there,
02:32and I don't want to forget that.
02:34But, like, all right, Michigan, and we can laugh at Michigan.
02:37Jerome Moore, almost in, like, Mel Tucker-type space
02:39where he gets in the place, gets a big contract and everything,
02:42and then, you know, sexual impropriety ends up taking him out of that space.
02:45And then we find out later in the day that he has been, you know,
02:49he has been taken to jail as a suspect of an alleged assault
02:53hours after he was fired.
02:55And this goes into just, like, a whole different space of everything
02:59with some of the, you know, some of the reports stating that, you know,
03:03he had gone to a property and maybe was acting erratically or what have you.
03:08But do you want to get into, like, the ramifications on the college space
03:12without, like, getting too much into the salacious here?
03:14And Michigan is a big, like, capital B big job in the college football space
03:21that after all of the – I mean, we've seen probably the coaching carousel
03:25with the most big job openings seemingly start to – in fact,
03:29it did wrap up with Matt Campbell taking the Penn State job.
03:31And now you have one of the biggest jobs opening up again,
03:35and this all starts again in a weirder way because so many of the dominoes
03:39felt like they were established, and I do wonder if they could become
03:41dislodged now to answer the call of Michigan.
03:44To me, that's the other side of this story and why, if you think it's just –
03:49it's been crazy, it's only getting crazier because Michigan –
03:52Michigan flat out is a better job than any other job that has come open.
03:56Penn State, LSU, Florida – no, for sure.
04:00For sure.
04:01More money, obviously, the rich history, the Big Ten, the logo.
04:07It is the best job that has come open thus far.
04:12All due respect to LSU, Penn State, Florida, the rest.
04:15The only thing that makes me pause, LSU and Florida, I think the geography is so –
04:20I mean, you talk about –
04:20Midwest.
04:21Okay, the Midwest, and obviously those two –
04:24They play some football in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
04:26They do, but I mean, you talk about the inherent, like, talent.
04:29You want to compare wherever in the Midwest to South Florida?
04:32You want to compare any of that to the boot?
04:34Look, I –
04:35And being able to reach into Texas as well?
04:37I'm telling you, it is on par.
04:39It is close.
04:41And it is –
04:41Fig, you're an Ohio State guy.
04:43Would you agree?
04:43It's the best job that's opened up.
04:45It's a really good job.
04:46Yeah, I think –
04:47And this ain't the Big Ten from 20 years ago where it's just like,
04:50oh, it's only Michigan and Ohio State.
04:52It's very competitive now.
04:54And I think –
04:55And it's not plotting Big Ten anymore either.
04:57Yeah, like, it's a competitive Big Ten, man.
05:00It's some good schools in the Big Ten now.
05:02So, I think that is a really good job.
05:04But regardless of where you fall on that,
05:06it is an enormous job with a lot of money and, you know, all that.
05:10I think, like, the trickle down –
05:13Right now, I'll put it this way.
05:15Kalen DeBoer, the Alabama head coach,
05:17is the odds-on favorite to get the Michigan job in Vegas.
05:22That says something.
05:23So, then you start thinking, man, what if –
05:25Which, by the way, he hasn't been completely embraced anyway.
05:28No, and that would be the reason.
05:30Because I know some people would go, well, Alabama,
05:31why would you leave that job?
05:33One, there's a lot of –
05:34Two, he's already started –
05:35He's already started killing off his lives, I guess, so to say.
05:38Yeah.
05:39If he was a cat and had nine of them.
05:40And what if they lose their bowl game?
05:41You know, they lost the championship game.
05:43I mean, Alabama, they don't put up with that, you know?
05:47No, and so he's already had some, you know, some steam go up.
05:50In fact, there's people that thought that Lane Kiffin and some of his delay
05:54was waiting to see if that Alabama job would come open.
05:57I'm glad you said that.
05:58And so, Kalen DeBoer, like, you know, Kalen DeBoer might be looking at this
06:02and going, hey, it might be worthwhile to go to a place –
06:04He's the favorite.
06:05Go to a place like Michigan, you can kind of restart whatever your clock is on –
06:09He's from the Midwest.
06:10On pressure from there.
06:11It's not that crazy amount of pressure either.
06:14Yeah.
06:14Like the SEC.
06:15Yeah.
06:15So what if –
06:16I mean, they stuck with Jim Harbaugh for a while before he started
06:18actually winning the big games.
06:19Right.
06:20Yeah.
06:20What if Kalen DeBoer goes to Michigan?
06:22Then all of a sudden, Alabama's open.
06:24Lane Kiffin, who's a loon and goes –
06:27I don't think you can say it like that.
06:29I don't think that's fair.
06:29Who's a loon and goes by the beat of his own drum, he is on the record.
06:35This isn't just, like, rumored.
06:36On the record, for years, he's been saying Alabama dream job.
06:40Alabama – what if – what if –
06:42You think he'd dip out?
06:43I don't know.
06:43I don't know, but –
06:45That would be hilarious.
06:46Yes, and that's what I'm talking about, the chaos.
06:48DeBoer goes to Michigan.
06:50Odds on favorite.
06:51Kiffin says, you know what?
06:52On second thought, I'm going to Alabama.
06:56And then all of a sudden, Alabama's open.
06:58Or LSU, rather.
06:59I mean, LSU's open.
07:00And I'm not even sure if they go with –
07:01because I don't know what the legal ramifications are of leaving that job immediately.
07:05Could Kurt Signetti actually go to Alabama?
07:08Because Kurt Signetti has been an assistant there,
07:10and he might be one of the hottest names.
07:12I know he just got an extension.
07:13Does that change it?
07:14Well, I was thinking about him going to Michigan.
07:17Does Matt Rule – like, I know that he's been a name.
07:19Does one of these jobs maybe whack-a-mole-ing and popping open?
07:22With his extension, can he move?
07:24There were so many people that got paid off of Penn State
07:26trying to get anybody and everybody.
07:28Do any of those opportunities open up again?
07:31This whole thing is chaotic.
07:33Yes.
07:33It's total chaos.
07:34And then everybody's like, well, what about – you mentioned it.
07:36What about the buyouts?
07:38What about these – you know, they just signed an extension.
07:40It's Alabama, Michigan, LSU.
07:44Doesn't matter.
07:45You say, ah, don't worry about that.
07:46Doesn't matter.
07:47We got that covered.
07:48Yeah.
07:48Yeah.
07:49So, then you got Michigan and Alabama and LSU and then the trickle.
07:52Maybe Indiana.
07:53Maybe – hell, Willie Fritz.
07:56Willie Fritz coached at Tulane.
07:57Come on, man.
07:58Willie Fritz coached at Tulane.
07:59If they get painted into a –
08:01Come on, man.
08:01I'm just saying, if they get painted into a corner and all of a sudden
08:05they're like, whoops.
08:06Willie Fritz might be a candidate at LSU.
08:11Hell, Steve Sarkeesian has been rumored to be wanting to go to the NFL.
08:15He denied it, and who knows how Texas feels about him.
08:19He coached at Alabama.
08:21It is –
08:22Hey, UT fans might want that.
08:25And I think that's one of the things that makes all of this so damn crazy.
08:28And I don't know if this is the best case, but one of the things that it came to
08:31is, are we really going to keep saying that the reason why this thing is crazy
08:36is because we just need to move the schedule?
08:37I do think that the schedule needs to be fixed.
08:39I think also this reminds us, college football is just crazy, period.
08:43Now, there's ways in which you can try and tame it a little bit,
08:45but you're not going to tame it all the way because something like a dude
08:48having an affair within the building can throw the entirety of the college
08:52football world on its head, both like, you know, just anecdotally
08:56and conversationally, but also tangibly when it comes to jobs and things.
09:00And even outside of that part, outside of the messy scandals like that,
09:04even the whole Lane Kiffin thing was –
09:07Yes.
09:07It was just – like, it's just him leaving to get another job,
09:10and that was a big old situation.
09:12Right, right.
09:13And then also on top of that, the fact that it's Michigan,
09:17which has had, what, five scandals in the last couple of years?
09:20Yeah.
09:21Michigan likes being the place that puts down their nose at folks.
09:26They got the cheating.
09:27They got the recruiting.
09:28Oh, there's different kinds of cheating, yes.
09:29Yeah, a lot of cheating.
09:30Several different cheating.
09:31Yeah, I can't be specific.
09:32There you go.
09:33Moore himself was suspended for some of the illicit things that he did.
09:40Now you got this.
09:41Jim Harbaugh dipped out.
09:42Yeah.
09:44I mean, their national championship was tainted and all that.
09:48And then you have NIL.
09:50You got the transfer portal that's going to open, what, in January?
09:52Or is it open now?
09:53Or I think it's open now.
09:55Yeah.
09:55And so you got the number one recruit from two years ago, Bryce Underwood.
10:00You know, stud quarterback.
10:01Is he going to bowl?
10:02Well, you talk about that.
10:03And I think that this is where the conversation turns.
10:07I think that Michigan itself has some things to answer for because the rumors are that they knew about this a while back.
10:15Yes.
10:15And that they held off on doing anything about it in order to try and, all right, land your recruiting class and things of that nature.
10:23And that makes the scam even more.
10:25He had a press conference Monday.
10:28Yeah.
10:28He had a press conference Monday lauding the recruiting class.
10:32They knew about it.
10:33Yeah.
10:34He knew about it.
10:35Yeah.
