00:01:22But the fans here tonight, a little bit more unruly than the ones we saw, a lot more at Azteca Stadium some five years ago.
00:01:31So up next, Chavez versus Gonzalez.
00:01:34Our main event, Julio Cesar Chavez, considered by many the greatest Mexican fighter of all time.
00:01:39In his prime, a relentless infighter and calculating technician.
00:01:42It has been a remarkable 18-year journey, but like so many terrific but aging athletes before him, he tries to defy the calendar.
00:01:50Tonight's fight begs the question, is this the last hurrah for the man called J.C. Superstar?
00:01:55It is inevitable that all great fighters will eventually bow to the most indefatigable of opponents, Father Time.
00:02:12But it seemed that would never happen to Julio Cesar Chavez.
00:02:16For during the first 13 years of his storybook career, he won 87 straight bouts, five world titles, and was unanimously considered the best pound-for-pound fighter of his time.
00:02:31As the most beloved, most successful fighter in Mexico, 15,000 fans appeared for a public workout.
00:02:43And a record-breaking 135,000 people filled Mexico City's Azteca Stadium for one of his fights.
00:02:51I always believed I would become a champion, but I never thought I would reach this kind of stature.
00:02:56The inevitability of time and a perfect Frankie Randall one-two punch finally ended Chavez's 14-year unbeaten streak.
00:03:05I never believed I was Superman. I knew that sooner or later I would have to lose.
00:03:11Despite avenging his only loss and winning six straight bouts, the 33-year-old Chavez was plagued by marital problems,
00:03:19reported financial difficulties, and a tendency to gain too much weight between fights.
00:03:26And two years ago, a convincing stoppage by Oscar De La Hoya forever tarnished his reputation for invincibility.
00:03:35A few years ago, I had a depressed morale, and I didn't care whether I won or lost.
00:03:42But the most important thing is that I have a positive mindset now.
00:03:46After winning three bouts over forgettable foes, he faces a formidable opponent seven years his junior, Miguel Ángel González.
00:03:55I think that in his last few fights, he's had some good moments, but he's not the same.
00:04:07He's washed up. His best fights are behind him.
00:04:13In order for Julio Cesar Chavez to prove he is not washed up,
00:04:17he must not only beat González, he must once again postpone the inevitable and defeat Father Time.
00:04:32And yes, Father Time can be very cruel.

00:05:37When a bull chases the matador, the matador has a choice, kill or be killed.
00:05:41And right now, who says our Chavez is going to come at?
00:05:44Miguel Angel González, and he's going to fight or die.

00:43:22missed with that right he was 148 his last fight 151 his heaviest two fights ago against tony martin

00:43:34this crowd admires and loves him so much there's been an absence of food stuff thrown in the ring
00:43:39nothing's thrown in the ring so at least the fans are behaving for chavez there's a blessing until the
00:43:43decision comes they do they have so much respect for this guy that an honor that unless of course

01:20:30Uh, Gonzalez won round 12 on all three scorecards to force the draw, we were just told.
01:20:38So that's the story there.
01:20:39Both fights, those big fights involving the, uh, the Mexican favorites, uh, in a draw.
01:20:44In, uh, our opening bout, it was Gabriel Mira of Mexico in a decision beating Yon Soon Chang of Korea
01:20:54in a flyweight elimination bout.
01:20:55The mirror now in line to fight for the WBC flyweight title.
01:20:58You saw what happened in the Lopez Alvarez fight.
01:21:01Uh, it was declared a draw on an accidental headbutt.
01:21:04So they each retain their titles.
01:21:06Alvarez, the WBA, Lopez, the WBC.
01:21:08And in our main event, things got ugly again.
01:21:12As, uh, Chavez and Gonzalez went to a draw.
01:21:16And the title, the WBC 140 pound title remains vacant.
01:21:19I'm not sure what we proved or what was solved in that last fight.
01:21:23But maybe they'll do it again.
01:21:25And I'm not sure what that'll prove either.
