00:04:44perhaps move us forward toward the long awaited rematch with Bernard Hopkins perhaps I'd say because as Roy just expressed

00:05:00Emmanuel that was quite a world wrestling federation confrontation we just watched between Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins we'll talk

00:05:09meanwhile here comes Glenn Kelly the latest in a long line of unknown and unheralded challengers for Roy Jones's light
00:05:18heavyweight crown
00:05:19and uh Jones for his part says to us yesterday well this is the biggest strongest
00:05:25quickest light heavyweight I will ever have faced is that true well he's a big light heavyweight let's stop at
00:05:31that what Roy's got to do
00:05:33he's been fighting a lot of secondary guys recently not that in his fault he's cleared up the division but
00:05:38he's got to do like a lot of the
00:05:39exciting fighters who were in those situations in the past the time of serious photo guy that wasn't that talent
00:05:44Tommy was so
00:05:45devastating in his knockout performance it didn't matter the caliber of the opponent Mike Tyson was the same type of
00:05:52a fighter and what Roy's got to do he's going to have to step it up and be impressive if
00:05:56he scores impressive knockout the caliber doesn't matter that much because eventually he will be not 1200 miles away from
00:06:03Bernard Hopkins they would be at the same city in the same arena in the same ring pretty soon but
00:06:08he needs an impressive performance tonight in his last three performances against uh Eric Harding
00:06:13Derrick Harmon and Julio Gonzalez Roy Jones didn't seem terribly interested in the risks associated with going for a spectacular
00:06:21knockout given the adrenaline he's got going right now at this moment is there a chance we might see a
00:06:26less risk averse Roy Jones all he's got to do is pretend that his opponent is Bernard Hopkins tonight and
00:06:32we'll see a great performance

00:10:57well that's the complaint that he has fought mandatory opponents like Richard Frazier and Richard Hall and Derek Harmon and
00:11:05tonight Glenn Kelly and Julio Gonzalez and various others with whom the public was not familiar that's why so much
00:11:12of the world wants to see him fight a Darius Miklsevsky or a Bernard Hopkins
00:11:17at least be in a strong competitive fight where we can see him have to dig down and see what
00:11:22he's made of I think he would perform well if he's ever been in that situation
00:11:26the closest he almost came was a James Tony but James Tony came in here prepared Roy Jones has been

00:16:17fight trainer but it also was the same way as a fighter
00:16:21hey if Jeff were in the ring
00:16:22he'd be giving up 55 pounds for Roy Jones
00:16:25and you just know he'd jump in his face anyway
00:16:26he would maybe be a bigger threat than Kelly is
00:16:28but will Kelly
00:16:33I'd like to make a note also that

00:16:39so this June I would be a prayer to

00:16:53Kelly backing off as Roy Jones
00:16:55begins the assault with straight right hands
00:16:57again if you haven't seen much of Jones
00:17:00clearly the most unconventional style
00:17:02of all current great fighters
00:17:04he seldom starts his attack with the jab
00:17:06he'll lead with hooks
00:17:07lead with straight right hands
00:17:09sometimes he'll just jump in
00:17:11and immediately go to infighting
00:17:13because he can do that too
00:17:14brilliant skills in every area
00:17:16Manny
00:17:16the thing he's got to do
00:17:18is to make a faster and more consistent
00:17:20tempo fighting this guy
00:17:21this guy likes to fight in spots
00:17:23very much reluctant
00:17:25and if Roy fights his normal style of laid back
00:17:28it could be a boring fight
00:17:30you see the size and strength of Kelly
00:17:33this for Jones is like hitting a brick wall
00:17:36compared to some of his previous opponents
00:17:38the Willoughy Richard Hall for instance
00:17:41Roy Jones' skill and speed will neutralize
00:17:43all of the supposed advantages that Kelly has
00:17:47and certainly from that range
00:17:49Kelly won't be able to bother him much
00:17:52no Kelly his basic fundamentals are bad
00:17:54when he misses a punch
00:17:55his right leg is all up in there
00:17:56once Roy sets the tempo up a little faster
00:17:59it's going to be just a matter of time
00:18:01if Kelly really wanted to compete with Jones
00:18:04wouldn't he Emmanuel have to step right up into his chest
00:18:07yes he would
00:18:08but it's not his nature
00:18:10he's just the opposite of Jeff Finnick
00:18:22so abundantly clear in yesterday's conversation
00:18:25when every time we asked Kelly
00:18:28about his approach to fighting Jones
00:18:30and what she was going to do
00:18:32Fennick would answer
00:18:33and eventually you said
00:18:34I can see that Jeff is fired up to fight Roy
00:18:37how about you Glenn

00:18:59you're going to have to just fight a faster tempo
00:19:01because this guy is not used to not only fighting fast
00:19:05he's not used to faking fast

00:19:09to make him get off track
00:19:10and make him have to speed up his tempo so to say
00:19:25he got this kid fighting a totally defensive fight
00:19:28he got his hands kind of high
00:19:29keep working your jab
00:19:31changing your jab up and stuff
00:19:33hands is up high

00:20:17Roy knocked out Virgil Hill with a vicious body shot.

00:20:29Len Kelly landed one of 20 attempted punches.
00:20:33Jones, not much faster tempo, 7 out of 34.
00:20:38Usually starts cautiously in round one and tries to get a look at his opponent,
00:20:42what he's going to do before he begins to develop more of the arsenal.
00:20:52And he should get right back to the tackle again, regardless of whether he lands or not.
00:21:03In his title defense in Los Angeles last summer against Julio Gonzalez,
00:21:08who was also big for a light heavyweight,
00:21:10Jones knocked Gonzalez down three times in the first, fifth, and twelfth rounds.
00:21:16But in none of those three instances did he step in and try to finish the fight.
00:21:19No, he didn't, and he's went back into a defense mode right now.
00:21:22He's really trying to catch Kelly coming in with a counter-left hook, we call it a check hook.
00:21:26And he's really waiting on him to come in where he can take that half a scoop back
00:21:29and shoot the hook at the same time.
00:21:31Doesn't look like Kelly wants to come in.
00:21:33No, so he's going to have to change up and take it back to him again.
00:21:37Roy's a very active puncher.
00:21:39All he has to do is just be busier, and it's just a matter of time before he'll stop it.
00:21:52Among the many things at which Roy is so totally adept,
00:21:55he paints as well as any fighter in the sport.
00:21:58And he can decoy you.
00:22:00He'll look right at the middle of your chest and hit you in the head.
00:22:02He'll look at your head and hit you right in the belly.
00:22:04He's a very exceptionally talented and intelligent and gifted fighter.
00:22:17Right hand stuns Kelly as he gets on the left earlier.

00:22:23Roy knows he's got him going now.
00:22:25All he has to do is just open up in this fight.
00:22:28It's over well.
00:22:29Kelly has no real defense to hold it off Roy.
00:22:32And Roy can do so many different things.
00:22:38Even though Kelly's a big guy, he's too clumsy,
00:22:40and everything he does, Roy can see it,
00:22:42so it's not going to be that effective anyway.

00:23:00It's just about a time I think Roy's going to put on

00:24:19That's a very high output for him.

00:24:23Looks like he's a little more interested

00:24:26than has generally been the case.
00:24:27I'm very impressed with Jones tonight.
00:24:29He's fighting a very good fight, I think.
00:24:30He's mixing up his attack,
00:24:32doing a variety of things,
00:24:33and Kelly is the perfect opponent for him tonight.
00:24:36And you heard Jeff Fennick in the corner
00:24:38pleading with his fighter to throw punches.
00:24:41So Kelly comes out and tries to attack,
00:24:44but as you can see,
00:24:45one punch at a time and slow attack.
00:24:48And once he starts throwing punches,
00:24:50it's just a matter of time before he's going to get caught.
00:24:52The only reason he survived this long
00:24:54is because he hasn't been throwing punches.
00:24:56And he tried to throw a punch at the end of round two.
00:24:58Jones countered perfectly with the left hook.
00:25:01Speed is a big factor in this fight.
00:25:06Well, when Vernon Forrest
00:25:08fought a very fast fighter in Shane Mosley last week,
00:25:10he said,
00:25:11the way you stop speed is with the jab.
00:25:14But Vernon kept it working.
00:25:15Kelly just hasn't thrown much.
00:25:17No, there's no speed at all coming to Kelly.
00:25:20You know, he's trying to think
00:25:22and fight an intelligent fight.
00:25:24And to beat Roy Jones,
00:25:25you just have to be somewhat stupid
00:25:27and just keep punching, keep punching, keep punching.
00:25:30And even then, he's not going to do it so much,
00:25:32but it's his best chance.
00:25:34This is exactly the opposite of what Kelly acknowledged
00:25:36he would have to do to be in the fight.
00:25:39So it's easy to talk about it,
00:25:41just not very easy to do it.

00:25:43especially with a talented fighter like Roy Jones.

00:26:35he never knew where jones was going to putt from jones is mixing up his attack so much
00:26:40overhand right right into the rim now he created a leaping left uppercut right between the
00:26:45gloves a leaping left uppercut you wouldn't teach it either would you know but he he was
00:26:50studded the hand position and he realized that every time he goes to this guy he's putting
00:26:54his hands on the side so roy being smart as is he charged that with a left uppercut first
00:26:59knockdown of the night for jones and that's the most spirited effort kelly has made to
00:27:09actually get at jones and he lands a right hand to the body

00:52:17the fight taking place under the existing contract among lewis tyson hbo and showtime the one apparent
00:52:27possibility is for the event to take place in california where reportedly the state athletic
00:52:32commission will schedule a hearing to consider a license for tyson as early as next saturday february
00:52:379 and where officials at staples center in los angeles indicate that they would be interested
00:52:43in staging the fight not on the original scheduled date of april 6 but as soon as april 20 or
00:52:51april 27
00:52:52meanwhile officials in texas and in florida are also said to be interested in hosting lewis tyson
00:52:58if the california possibility fails to materialize meanwhile realize meanwhile it could conceivably take
00:53:08place here in this arena in miami yesterday prosecutors in las vegas reportedly were presented
00:53:14by las vegas police evidence and a recommendation of rape charges against tyson related to the allegations
00:53:22of one woman with whom the fighter reportedly had a six month relationship last year while las vegas
00:53:27police now continue to investigate allegations which have been brought forward now by a second woman
00:53:33it's unclear when and whether the district attorney will press either of these charges and if so
00:53:39how those criminal rape charges might affect the prospect for a lewis tyson fight as for mike tyson
