WBA Lightweight Champion Julio Cesar Chavez faces WBC Champion Jose Luis Ramirez in a unification fight on HBO Boxing. Plus an interview with heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
Transcript
00:00:00Ramirez, the WBC lightweight champion, is on record one of the most experienced fighters in the sport.
00:00:15But Jose Luis Ramirez is a quiet man, content within himself, and character and expression are most clearly communicated through his actions in the ring.
00:00:30I think that Mexico and the world are going to come out winning because it's going to be a fight where there will be a little of everything.
00:00:41Class, friends, punch, a little of everything.
00:00:45He wants to beat me in this fight at all costs because unfortunately he hasn't had the recognition or the popularity that I have in Mexico.
00:00:56He wants to beat me so he can be more popular to show that he is also a great champion.
00:01:05Between them, these two warriors have entered the ring 166 times, accounting for 160 victories, over 857 total rounds.
00:01:15But it is the next 12 rounds in this ring tonight which will determine who is the best 135-pound fighter in the world today.
00:01:23As Julio Cesar Chavez meets his countryman, Jose Luis Ramirez, for the WBA and WBC lightweight championship.
00:01:31Tonight, world championship boxing comes to you live from the Las Vegas Hilton.
00:02:01in Las Vegas, Nevada, where HBO Sports will present a unification of the WBA and WBC World Lightweight Championship.
00:02:09As the undefeated WBA titleist, Julio Cesar Chavez meets his most experienced opponent to date, the WBC champion, Jose Luis Ramirez.
00:02:20A capacity crowd, very excited here in the Hilton Center.
00:02:25Just moments ago, this largely Mexican crowd watched the 21-year-old Mexican challenger named Raul Perez, largely unknown, lift from unbeaten Miguel Happy Laura of Colombia to WBC World Bantamweight title in a unanimous decision.
00:02:40And they're very excited now as they get ready for this bout between two great Mexican fighters.
00:02:47Hello again, everybody. I'm Jim Lafley, and welcome to Championship Boxing on HBO.
00:02:51As always, I'm working with one of the most accomplished and eminent journalists in the sport, Larry Merchant.
00:02:57Larry, we're going to see a fight which has a lot of significance for the sport of boxing.
00:03:01Well, let's judge it by what's going on in Mexico. In Mexico, this is bigger than big.
00:03:06It's as big as Hagler, Leonard, as big as Ali and Fraser, even as big as Tyson and Gibbons.
00:03:13That big.
00:03:14But Chavez had an interesting observation.
00:03:16He said a lot of people in Mexico are watching this fight with a sort of morbid curiosity,
00:03:21because they don't want one of their heroes to lose or to be humiliated.
00:03:25What that means for us is fierce hand-to-hand and head-to-head combat from a country that produces probably the toughest, skilled fighters, pound-for-pound, in the world.
00:03:39So, folks, put your children to bed. This isn't Halloween. It's for real, Jim.
00:03:44And it's going to be a real pleasure for us, Larry, working tonight with a man who stands in for our colleague, Ray Leonard,
00:03:50as Ray gets ready for his bout against light heavyweight champion Donnie Lalonde next Monday night.
00:03:56Kevin Rooney, trainer of Mike Tyson and one-time great welterweight boxer himself,
00:04:00will get his first shot as an HBO expert commentator.
00:04:03And, Kevin, we're going to watch two guys who are former stablemates,
00:04:06who have spent countless rounds in the ring sparring together.
00:04:09What will that mean to the bout?
00:04:11Well, that's going to mean a lot to the bout, because we spoke with Cesar Julio Cervez,
00:04:17and he wouldn't tell us, but he said, from those parts, that he knows Ramirez and he's going to have a surprise for him.
00:04:25So I feel they're both great experience fighters. Ramirez is over 100 fights.
00:04:30They're both tough. They're two Mexicans. They're going to go to war.
00:04:33I feel that that will be the advantage, but he seemed to have something in his mind when we spoke to him that day.
00:04:38And I think whatever it is, he'll capitalize on it, and I'll try to look for it.
00:04:42All right, Kevin, we'll look forward to hearing your comments as the bout progresses.
00:04:45Julio Cesar Cervez has already a well-developed persona in the ring as an unbeaten champion.
00:04:50He's working now on developing an outside-the-ring persona to go with it.
00:05:02Julio Cesar Cervez is seen by many as pound-for-pound the best fighter in the world today.
00:05:07And in his country of Mexico, he just might be the most recognized athlete of his time.
00:05:13But being recognized only for his skills as a fugilist is no longer enough for this young champion.
00:05:19Once content, living a low-key and anonymous lifestyle, Cervez now opts for the bright lights that boxing has to offer.
00:05:27And oh, how things have changed.
00:05:29It goes without saying that boxing is entertainment.
00:05:35And the more visible a fighter, the more his marquee value increases.
00:05:39As hard as Cervez has worked toward becoming a world champion, he's now working just as hard at becoming a marketing commodity.
00:05:45A Madison Avenue sweetheart.
00:05:47And why not?
00:05:48Advertising agencies have always looked to athletes to endorse their products.
00:05:52And for their services, they're paid big dollars.
00:05:54But most of these athletes have been household names, and more importantly, they speak English.
00:06:00Cervez's drawback is that outside the world of boxing, he's still unknown.
00:06:04And he doesn't speak English.
00:06:06At least, not yet.
00:06:08I know that I am at this advantage because I do not speak English, but I am trying very hard.
00:06:33I'm learning the language for myself so I can be someone in the world.
00:06:38I'm practicing every day.
00:06:40In four or five months, I will be able to understood by American people.
00:06:45Unlike with the English language, Cervez has no problems expressing himself in front of the camera, whether in or out of the ring.
00:06:51In a recent modeling session with famous fashion photographer Francesca Sabullo, Cervez looked well at ease as Sabullo snapped away.
00:06:59And then in another session, arranged by Don King with intentions of attracting a major corporate sponsor, Cervez was indeed a natural.
00:07:08Don King has taken boxing's future star under his wing, and he's banking on Travis's good look and charismatic personality, with visions of one day turning Julio into another Sugar Ray lemon.
00:07:22Julio Cesar Chavez is a world entity.
00:07:27He's no longer just belonging to Mexico.
00:07:29He hails from Mexico.
00:07:30You know, you get him to speak in English first, that is the first and primary thing I mean, he needs to do.
00:07:34In the meantime, we've all got to fulfill every suit that can help him to become that star.
00:07:41We want Madison Avenue to be there to see him.
00:07:43But what will advertising agencies and executives on Madison Avenue say when they do see Chavez?
00:07:49Will they be as willing as Don King to make Chavez their front page priority?
00:07:53Some more disparate stars, because a foreign athlete would have limited appeal, but guys like Camacho had been using for nurses before, Carlos Monzón.
00:08:04They never were what I would call speaking of exchange English, but they spoke it well enough to be charming and to be charismatic.
00:08:14And I think that's something that someone like today could have to work on, before a client is going to put millions and millions of dollars behind that particular individual.
00:08:26Despite all the commotion and King's efforts to hype the young champion, Chavez remains strictly focused on his priorities.
00:08:35So many people have planned for me to do commercials, movies, and televisions.
00:08:40That's why I am here in this country. There is so much financial opportunity, not only for me, but for my family as well.
00:08:48Right now, I just want to be a great fighter.
00:08:51Just how popular Chavez becomes is still to be seen, though it is safe to say that unlike a few fighters who receive celebrity status almost overnight,
00:09:00Chavez has been forced to take the long road to recognition, similar to that of marvelous Marvin Hagler.
00:09:05But Julio seems to be on the right path, committing himself to a country where dreams can come true.
00:09:11Only time and the quality of his opponents will reflect how brightly his star will shine.
00:09:19There are a handful of unbeaten world titleists in the sport.
00:09:23Chavez's win streak is the longest among them.
00:09:26Coming up, a 12-round lightweight unification title bout between Julio Cesar Chavez and José Luis Ramirez of Mexico.
00:09:34And right now, let's rejoin our colleague, Larry Merchant.
00:09:38We're here to see two friends, two champions, two warriors do battle.
00:09:44We're also here to see if one of them, Chavez, has the right stuff and the left hook to graduate into a higher league.
00:09:52That would be the league of the little giant, the most famous of whom was buried today in Los Angeles, Henry Armstrong.
00:10:02Just 50 years ago, Henry Armstrong was in the midst of one of the most extraordinary accomplishments in all of sports history.
00:10:09He won three undisputed championships, featherweight, then welterweight, then lightweight, in 10 months.
00:10:17A decade earlier, Tony Canzaniere won four titles.
00:10:21In the modern era, only Roberto Duran and Alexis Arguello have been in that elite class of little giants.
00:10:28If Chavez wins tonight, if, then he will move onward and upward into the welterweight division and perhaps into that higher league.
00:10:38But Jose Luis Ramirez isn't here to cheer him on.
00:10:50Daybreak.
00:10:51Forty kilometers outside Mexico City lie the foothills to the enchanted forest de Tierra de Leones, the desert of the lions.
00:10:59Inhabitants of the quaint villages which surround the desert toil at life, cherishing each day.
00:11:11Even if it's creating the necessary craftwork for tourist dollars, enabling them to lead only the simplest of existence.
00:11:18Perhaps the most significant figure to come out of these hills is here temporarily.
00:11:22WBC lightweight champion Jose Luis Ramirez is training, somewhat reluctantly, for most likely his final attempt to resurrect the once promising career.
00:11:33I must say that I was pressured into this fight.
00:11:36I have to fight the number one fighter from my stable.
00:11:39Since Julio is the number one contender of my championship, if I didn't fight, I become unknown.
00:11:44So I have to grab the opportunity.
00:11:46Ramirez's fall from grace began in 1985, after he lost his title to the sequined Puerto Rican peacock, Hector Macho Camacho.
00:11:56This performance disenchanted promoter Don King, who had a younger, more saleable Latin attraction, Julio Cesar Chavez, waiting in the wing.
00:12:04After I lost to Macho Camacho, Don King forgot all about me, and didn't get me any fights for a year.
00:12:14My manager, Ramon, got upset, and that's why we asked to be freed from my contract.
00:12:18Then, I signed with the Ackeris brothers to promote me in Paris, France.
00:12:24Unfortunately, the lure of a new career in Paris was accompanied by the customary French leer at foreigners.
00:12:29For Ramirez, a Mexican Indian no less, it was difficult to adjust to life in a sophisticated city.
00:12:37In the ensuing two years in France, ten fights came and went, with the veteran Ramirez exhibiting only glimpses of his once brilliant skills.
00:12:45Then he reverted to his trademark methodical style in a hotly disputed victory over Purnell Whitaker.
00:12:51Most experts believe the Mexican had lost.
00:12:54Finally returning to his beloved homeland for good, Ramirez is still popular,
00:13:00but the dignity of once being world champion will never diminish.
00:13:07For a country still rebounding from the devastating effects of the earthquake barely two years ago,
00:13:12tonight's fight will bring positive publicity.
00:13:16Now Mexicans are faced with the prospects of choosing between two native sons.
00:13:20The old line, Jose Luis Ramirez,
00:13:25or his dear friend and former training partner, Julio Cesar Chavez.
00:13:30Mexicans believe they will be proud, no matter the outcome.
00:13:34For Ramirez, this could be his last tango.
00:13:39For me, it's not just another fight.
00:13:42I respect him as a person and as a boxer.
00:13:45Now that he's a great champion, he's defended his title well.
00:13:48He is a great man, but up in the ring, it's going to be war.
00:13:54He's trying to win, and I will certainly fight the hardest ever.
00:13:59After, outside the ring, it's going to be the same as always.
00:14:03A friendship that will through the years forever last.
00:14:06There was a time years ago in Culiacan, Mexico, when that man on your screen was the pupil,
00:14:15and Jose Luis Ramirez was quite frequently in the sparring ring, the teacher.
00:14:20But tonight, Larry Merchant, this man, Chavez, once the pupil, enters the ring as a heavy favorite against his old stablemate.
00:14:28That's right, he's 26, Ramirez is nearly 30, Chavez is the up-and-coming star.
00:14:39But Ramirez, I don't think, was ever a star.
00:14:42He was the Pete Rose of boxing in Mexico.
00:14:45He just stuck with it.
00:14:46He didn't get a title shot until his 87th professional fight.
00:14:52There are a handful, as I mentioned, of undefeated world title holders in the sport of boxing.
00:14:59And among them, Julio Cesar Chavez has the longest existing winning streak.
00:15:0459-0 by our listings, the listings of Ring Magazine, and of the world governing bodies.
00:15:11Some claim that he has had 60 fights.
00:15:13He and his camp claim he has had 61 fights.
00:15:17One thing is certain, he has never lost.
00:15:20And 12 of those victories came in championship bouts.
00:15:24He is not a one-punch knockout fighter, Kevin Rooney, but 50 knockouts in 59 fights attest to his effectiveness.
00:15:30There's a lot of combination of punches.
00:15:31He goes to the body, he goes to the head, he's got a good snap, and when he hurts a man, they'll take him out.
00:15:37He's not a one-punch knockout artist, but he could knock out one punch if he hits you right.
00:15:41Well, you see him now saying hello to some of the greats of the sport in the ring.
00:15:45As we get ready now to enter the minds of the fighters a little bit,
00:15:49as Kevin Rooney broaches boxing strategy in his tits of the night.
00:15:55One of the things we have to look for, our sport, Chavez, is very vulnerable to a straight left hand from a southpaw.
00:16:00He's fighting Ramirez, who is a southpaw.
00:16:03Here we see him against Aguilar, he got hit with a left hand.
00:16:07He stays very calm when he gets in, here's where he was at, he gets right on the butt.
00:16:13He took it like it was nothing.
00:16:15He works the body very well, and that takes the start out of a fighter.
00:16:18Here you see him working over with Rosario.
00:16:20He's very close to him, which makes it hard for him to be here, to be counted.
00:16:24He works upstairs and downstairs.
00:16:26He does that very well, that's one of the pluses for him.
00:16:32Now we're going to switch to Ramirez.
00:16:33He's very vulnerable to head punches.
00:16:37He stands straight up, and he's wide open for straight right hands,
00:16:41which you should throw when you're fighting a southpaw.
00:16:44We'll have to look for Chavez to do that, and that's something that Ramirez is going to have to try to get away from by bending.
00:16:50Now a plug for Ramirez,
00:16:52is when he gets hit, he comes back right away.
00:16:55When he has a man hurt, he doesn't let him walk the rope.
00:16:58Here we see him against Rosario, opening up with everything he had after he had hurt him.
00:17:03A good look at Chavez, and as Kevin Rooney pointed out there,
00:17:06he will be facing a southpaw in Ramirez tonight.
00:17:10His last title defense in April here in Las Vegas,
00:17:13against Rodolfo Aguilar, was his first fight ever against a southpaw.
00:17:17And now here comes the man whom Larry Merchant has referred to as the Pete Rose of Mexican boxing,
00:17:24one of the most durable fighters of this or any other era.
00:17:28There's an interesting story about him as an honest workman.
00:17:31When he recaptured the title from Terrence Ali on a close decision,
00:17:36he refused to accept the title in his own mind, he told people,
00:17:40until he sat down, watched the take of the fight,
00:17:44was satisfied that he won the fight,
00:17:46then he said, okay, I'm the champ again.
00:17:50Did he really?
00:17:50Yeah.
00:17:51That's something.
00:17:51That's something.
00:17:52I like that.
00:17:52I like that.
00:17:54That's an honest fighter.
00:17:55That's right.
00:17:56And you saw the graphic, Kevin,
00:17:57that said that five of his six losses have been to past, present, or future champions.
00:18:03There are the names of the men who defeated Jose Luis Ramirez.
00:18:07Of course, he avenged the loss to Rosario
00:18:09with a fourth-round knockout of Edmund Rosario
00:18:12a little bit later on down the road.
00:18:14Yeah, and he was knocked out by the great Oliveras
00:18:16when he was 18 or 19 years old.
00:18:18But he has been in the ring, actually,
00:18:21with more top-ranked fighters in the lightweight division
00:18:25than Chavez has, which is totally meaningless.
00:18:28Look at this.
00:18:28He's had 106 fights, Kevin.
00:18:30He's been fighting more than half his life,
00:18:32and his base is completely unmarked.
00:18:34That's right.
00:18:35Well, that shows that he takes a good shot,
00:18:37and he doesn't really get hit that often.
00:18:40He stands straight up, but he overpowers a lot of guys.
00:18:43The thing about this record is it's unlikely
00:18:46that we're going to ever again see a champion
00:18:49who's had over 100 fights.
00:18:50Once upon a time, it was not uncommon.
00:18:53We may never see it again.
00:18:54So many fighters have long amateur careers today.
00:18:57And because of the economics of the sport,
00:19:01we could talk all night about that.
00:19:02But first, let's look at the tail of the tape,
00:19:05which will show you that the two significant differences
00:19:08between the fighters, age, Ramirez,
00:19:10as Larry pointed out, pressing 30, Chavez just 26,
00:19:14and the reach difference, 66 and a half to 64.
00:19:17Not significant because Chavez likes to step up inside
00:19:20and fight his fight at close quarters anyway.
00:19:22That is correct.
00:19:23And the age, it doesn't matter neither.
00:19:25I believe in age.
00:19:26The age is a state of mind.
00:19:29What about the 107 fights as opposed to 59?
00:19:33That has nothing to do with it at this point.
00:19:35Just, you know, 59 fights, 100 fights, you know,
00:19:37at that point is...
00:19:37All right, let's take a look at Punch Start,
00:19:39a statistical profile of how many punches
00:19:42these fighters throw.
00:19:43And you can see that they're practically mirror images,
00:19:46but Chavez is the quicker-handed and more accurate puncher,
00:19:52and that's reflected also.
00:19:54You can see in the jabs, Ramirez tends to throw more jabs.
00:19:57They land about the same.
00:19:58They fight at such close quarters
00:20:00that they really don't throw that many jabs.
00:20:02Two titles on the line, the WBA and WBC championships,
00:20:06by and large, they'll be using WBC rules,
00:20:08the most significant one in white there.
00:20:10There is no three-knockdown rule.
00:20:12And now, for the free-fight introduction
00:20:15and a special moment in honor of one of the greatest fighters
00:20:18in the history of the sport,
00:20:19let's go up to ring announcer Chuck Hall.
00:20:22Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
00:20:23Welcome to the Hilton Center of the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel,

00:21:03a man who freed himself from the ghettos of St. Louis, Missouri,
00:21:07and went on to win three world titles
00:21:11at the same time in different weight divisions.
00:21:15He held the lightweight, the featherweight,
00:21:17and the welterweight championships,
00:21:19all at the same time,
00:21:20the only man in history to accomplish that feat.
00:21:24After he retired from boxing,
00:21:26he became a member of the ministry
00:21:28and went to California to work with youth
00:21:30around the Long Beach, California area.
00:21:34He was not only an historical boxer,
00:21:36he was a great humanitarian.
00:21:39So what I would ask you now,
00:21:40all rise, please,
00:21:42as I ask our timekeeper, Al Bicek,
00:21:45to sound the ten count
00:21:46for one of boxing's greatest,

00:23:25of 101 wins,
00:23:2760 defeats,
00:23:29with 82 KOs,
00:23:31he is the WBC lightweight champion
00:23:33of the world,
00:23:34Jose Luis Ramirez.
00:23:41And in the red corner,
00:23:43also from Culiacan, Mexico,
00:23:46weighing in at 135 pounds,
00:23:48his professional record
00:23:50consists of 59 wins,
00:23:52no defeats,
00:23:53with 50 KOs,
00:23:55he is the undefeated
00:23:56WBA lightweight champion
00:23:59of the world,
00:24:00Julio Cesar Chavez.
00:24:03Okay, I spoke to both fighters
00:24:18in the dressing room.
00:24:19I wanted to caution you
00:24:20to remind them
00:24:22to obey my commands
00:24:23at all times.
00:24:24Okay?
00:24:25I understand that...
00:24:28Okay, when it's hit here,
00:24:30it's not high,
00:24:31or it's not low, okay?
00:24:32It's right here.
00:24:33It's not low.
00:24:34Okay?
00:24:35Obey my commands at all times.
00:24:36Take hands.
00:24:37Good luck.
00:24:38One thing to keep in mind,
00:24:41Ramirez has been knocked down
00:24:42a few times
00:24:43in fights over the last few years,
00:24:45always early in the fight.
00:24:47That's right.
00:24:49I'm curious to see
00:24:50if that happens
00:24:50if Chavez is going to finish him.
00:24:55Referee Richard Steele
00:24:56has handled Chavez's
00:24:58last two appearances
00:24:59here in Las Vegas
00:25:00against Edwin Rosario,
00:25:02and Rodolfo Aguilar.
00:25:03No American referee
00:25:04has seen Ramirez
00:25:05for more than three years,
00:25:07his last 10 bouts
00:25:08having taken place
00:25:09in France.
00:25:10And remember
00:25:11that this fight
00:25:12is as much about
00:25:13neighborhood honor
00:25:15as it is about
00:25:17world championships.
00:25:18That's right.
00:25:19That's right.
00:25:19These kids really feel that.
00:25:22Round one begins
00:25:24between two men
00:25:25who know each other
00:25:26as well as any
00:25:27two boxers
00:25:28in the ring today.
00:25:31Chavez is starting out
00:25:32going side to side
00:25:33and that's very important.
00:25:39Because Ramirez
00:25:40only knows one way
00:25:41to fight, right?
00:25:42Straight forward.
00:25:42If he goes to the side,
00:25:43I'm going to get a clean shot.
00:25:45Ramirez is a good puncher,
00:25:46though.
00:25:46We can't neglect that.
00:25:47He has an excellent,
00:25:49excellent chance
00:25:50if you heard
00:25:51Chavez to take him
00:25:53out of there.
00:26:02Chavez focusing
00:26:04his eyes on Ramirez's body,
00:26:06but he has not yet
00:26:06stepped in
00:26:07to mount a body attack.
00:26:09Hasn't done anything.
00:26:10Intent for the moment
00:26:11to make Ramirez miss
00:26:12as Jose Luis Ramirez
00:26:14is the aggressor
00:26:16in the early moments
00:26:17of the fight.
00:26:20Looks like Chavez
00:26:22is trying to feel him out.
00:26:24The first punch
00:26:25from Chavez
00:26:26was an uppercut
00:26:26followed by a right hand.
00:26:28Both landed.
00:26:31Ramirez takes a great shot,
00:26:33we all know that.
00:26:36Well, and of course
00:26:36so does Chavez.
00:26:37He took the left hand
00:26:39of Edwin Rosario
00:26:40regarded as one
00:26:40of the heaviest
00:26:41in the lightweight division.
00:26:42That's true.
00:26:43That's very true.
00:26:45Took it like it was nothing.
00:26:50Chavez continuing
00:26:53to focus his eyes
00:26:54on a spot
00:26:55below the point
00:26:56of Ramirez's chin.
00:27:00Ramirez
00:27:00awing with the jab.
00:27:06Solid right hand
00:27:07by Chavez.
00:27:08Oh, good left hand
00:27:09by Ramirez there.
00:27:13They begin
00:27:13to trade punches
00:27:14now in the second minute
00:27:15of round number one.
00:27:17Still now, time is over.
00:27:18A right to the body
00:27:22and a left to the chin
00:27:22by Chavez.
00:27:24And now he becomes
00:27:25for the moment
00:27:25the aggressor.
00:27:27Made him miss nice
00:27:27and he slipped away
00:27:28he just didn't punch.
00:27:29He's got to punch
00:27:30when he makes him miss.
00:27:32Two right hands.
00:27:33You'll see a lot
00:27:34of right hand leads
00:27:34from Chavez
00:27:35will we not, Kevin?
00:27:36That's right.
00:27:36That's what you got to do.
00:27:37That's always effective
00:27:38with stop boards.
00:27:40Always.
00:27:41That's the book
00:27:41I'm finding the stop boards.
00:27:43Leave with right hands.
00:27:45Chavez needs to be doing that.
00:27:48Good body.
00:27:49Another right hand lead
00:27:50from Chavez.
00:27:55Ramirez landed with the jab
00:27:56and missed wildly
00:27:57with the left.
00:28:02Left uppercut
00:28:03on the button
00:28:03by Chavez.
00:28:05He's thrown that twice
00:28:05and has landed twice
00:28:06so far.
00:28:08And you can see there
00:28:09his uncanny ability
00:28:11to make a fighter miss
00:28:12at close range.
00:28:13Ramirez just unable
00:28:14to find Chavez's head.
00:28:15That's very important.
00:28:17Very important.
00:28:20Right hand landed
00:28:21just at the end
00:28:22of the round.
00:28:23They felt each other
00:28:23out a little bit
00:28:24but Chavez landed
00:28:25the more effective load.
00:28:27What you saw there
00:28:28is that Ramirez
00:28:29is all both fighters.
00:28:30I need Ramirez
00:28:35to all both.
00:28:36That was a good round.
00:28:42Keep close to him
00:28:44and then on the side.
00:28:45Close to him
00:28:46and on the side.
00:28:47Good work.
00:28:48You're doing fine.
00:28:50Stay close to him
00:28:51and then to one side.
00:28:53He's doing a great job.
00:28:55That's good advice
00:28:55but it should also add
00:28:57it should also add
00:29:00when he gets to the side
00:29:01that he should punch.
00:29:02The punch count statistic
00:29:21that showed Ramirez
00:29:22landing only nine
00:29:23of 74 punches
00:29:24in the round
00:29:25are a reflection
00:29:26of Chavez's ability
00:29:27to slip in close
00:29:28and Chavez begins round
00:29:30two by landing
00:29:30a solid right
00:29:31to Ramirez's head.
00:29:34Now Ramirez
00:29:34begins to look
00:29:35to the body
00:29:36more than he did
00:29:36in round one
00:29:37and that's what
00:29:38he should do.
00:29:42Body punches
00:29:43up very effective.
00:29:52Chavez countering
00:29:53to the body
00:29:53and to the head
00:29:54with the double left hook.
00:29:57Except for the right
00:29:58hand lead
00:29:59Chavez is content
00:30:00to counter so far
00:30:01so far
00:30:01that's right
00:30:02it's a good right hook
00:30:03by Ramirez
00:30:04and there's a left
00:30:05by Ramirez
00:30:05which is his best
00:30:06punch of the bounce
00:30:07so far.
00:30:15Double right hand
00:30:16both fighters beginning
00:30:22beginning to step up
00:30:23the action now
00:30:24and certainly Ramirez
00:30:25is finding Chavez
00:30:26much more
00:30:27than was the case
00:30:28in round one.
00:30:30He landed a very good
00:30:31left and a very good
00:30:32right Chavez
00:30:32and he opened up
00:30:33he thought he heard
00:30:34and he opened up.
00:30:38Good work
00:30:39by both fighters here.
00:30:41Ramirez has set himself
00:30:42up to be more effective
00:30:43by going to the body
00:30:44to start
00:30:44to start.
00:30:49Boy they're full
00:30:49working the fight
00:30:50without fighting
00:30:51the fight
00:30:51just take it out
00:30:52of you.
00:30:52They take the adrenaline
00:30:53out.
00:30:53They take the wind
00:30:54out.
00:30:56They take your will
00:30:57to fight out.
00:30:59Solid right hand lead
00:31:00by Chavez
00:31:00and a right hand
00:31:02lands for Ramirez
00:31:03in close.
00:31:05Good action here.
00:31:08There's another good
00:31:09body shot by Ramirez
00:31:10to stay left.
00:31:11This is a much
00:31:12better round
00:31:13for Jose Luis Ramirez
00:31:14than was the case
00:31:15in round one.
00:31:16He's gotten Chavez's
00:31:17attention.
00:31:21I might add
00:31:22and vice versa.
00:31:23That's right.
00:31:24Oh well that's been
00:31:25the case from the beginning.
00:31:35Well Ramirez
00:31:35what Chavez
00:31:36leads with that right hand
00:31:37is close to fight her off
00:31:38and gets him off
00:31:39and dribble.
00:31:40He's been affected
00:31:41with it.
00:31:41He should do more of it.
00:31:42He'll come back
00:31:42with a left hook.
00:31:46He'll come back
00:31:46with a left hook.
00:31:47He hasn't missed
00:31:48with the right hand lead.
00:31:49No he hasn't.
00:31:51Chavez
00:31:51wouldn't miss
00:31:52with the left hook.
00:31:53Good left counter
00:31:54by Chavez
00:31:54but Ramirez continues
00:31:55now as the aggressive
00:31:56stepping up the pace
00:31:58inside.
00:31:58Time to take it
00:31:59on the fire.
00:31:59It's a good move
00:32:00by Ramirez.
00:32:01That was slow
00:32:02while Chavez
00:32:03down.
00:32:07A little bit
00:32:07of a move
00:32:08to go to the side
00:32:08for this punch.
00:32:10solid right hand
00:32:13counter by Chavez.
00:32:18Both fighters
00:32:18landing
00:32:19as the round
00:32:20comes to an end.
00:32:23That was
00:32:23major league stuff
00:32:24you saw there.
00:32:26Two experienced
00:32:28terrific fighters
00:32:29probing each other
00:32:31for weaknesses.
00:32:32That's right.
00:32:32Hone at it.
00:32:33always be ready
00:32:38to counter punch.
00:32:41Always try to
00:32:42hit him first.
00:32:44Always connect him.
00:32:46Try to connect him
00:32:46always.
00:32:49What rhythm?
00:32:50You have to put
00:32:51some more rhythm to it.
00:32:52And always hit him first.
00:32:53Don't give him a chance
00:32:55to do anything.
00:32:57Keep punching.
00:33:00Always close to him.
00:33:10The secret is that
00:33:11you have to fight
00:33:12downstairs.
00:33:13I was a little surprised
00:33:19Kevin.
00:33:21That Chavez
00:33:21has decided
00:33:23to be more
00:33:24of the boxers
00:33:25and stand outside.
00:33:26A little bit.
00:33:26He should be inside.
00:33:29Ramirez's corner
00:33:30gave him good advice
00:33:30to stay on the body.
00:33:31Stay close.
00:33:32Be accessible.
00:33:33Work that body.
00:33:35That's right.
00:33:35And you saw
00:33:37the accuracy
00:33:38reflected
00:33:39in Chavez's
00:33:41statistics for round
00:33:42two as our punch
00:33:43set computer
00:33:44operators having
00:33:45landing 26
00:33:46out of 45 blows.
00:33:48But it is Ramirez
00:33:49who moves forward
00:33:49more of the time.
00:33:51Well, you know,
00:33:52I didn't think
00:33:5226 blows land.
00:33:54If there's 26
00:33:55blows land,
00:33:56I think Ramirez
00:33:57would be out of there.
00:34:05Kevin, are you
00:34:06trying to tell us
00:34:07you're not a man
00:34:08of the computer age?
00:34:09Exactly.
00:34:10It's not when it
00:34:10comes to scoring
00:34:11punches.
00:34:12Somehow, I suspect
00:34:13that that was the case.
00:34:15Kevin Rooney with us
00:34:16working for the first
00:34:18time as an expert
00:34:19analyst on HBO.
00:34:21Well, Ramirez
00:34:21is being very aggressive
00:34:22and being effective.
00:34:27Right hand and a left
00:34:28landed by Ramirez.
00:34:29And for the moment,
00:34:30he has Chavez
00:34:31off balance.
00:34:32Yes, he does.
00:34:33He's scoring
00:34:33effectively.
00:34:35Chavez now landing
00:34:44again with the
00:34:45right hand lead.
00:34:47It's another good
00:34:48round so far.
00:34:59Again, that right
00:35:00hand lead lands.
00:35:03Kevin, what should
00:35:04Ramirez be doing
00:35:05to avoid that
00:35:05right hand lead?
00:35:06He's bent.
00:35:07He's bent down.
00:35:08He's bent his knees.
00:35:11As you pointed out
00:35:12before the fight,
00:35:14his head is there
00:35:15to be hit.
00:35:15Right hand.
00:35:17And strangely enough,
00:35:18he's landing
00:35:18a straight left
00:35:19on Chavez.
00:35:23Chavez is beginning
00:35:24to pick up the pace
00:35:25with counter left
00:35:25and the right hand lead.
00:35:27And the right hand lead.
00:35:28Brown started out
00:35:29as a Jose Luis Ramirez
00:35:31round.
00:35:33The defense has
00:35:34evened it up a little bit,
00:35:35but it's still wide open,
00:35:36I think.
00:35:38We've got less than a minute
00:35:39now, so we'll see
00:35:40if we can finish this
00:35:41longer.
00:35:42It was a good body shot.
00:35:46Left and the right
00:35:47combination.
00:35:48Both landed
00:35:49to the head of Ramirez.
00:35:50Both boys take a punch
00:35:52well.
00:35:53They're proving that.
00:35:53The score got hit clean
00:35:55and come right back.
00:36:00Well, Julio Cesar Chavez
00:36:01told us that he had
00:36:03something in his back
00:36:04pocket for the years
00:36:05of memory of being
00:36:06in the ring with Ramirez
00:36:07that he might use.
00:36:08Would you guess
00:36:09that it might be
00:36:10a decision to box
00:36:11a little more?
00:36:12It looked that way,
00:36:13going side to side,
00:36:14I guess.
00:36:15Because he really
00:36:16hasn't shown much
00:36:16as far as, you know,
00:36:18I thought maybe
00:36:19we could left uppercut.
00:36:20But he stopped using it.
00:36:25Carol Letterman,
00:36:26our unofficial official.
00:36:29How do you score
00:36:29it so far?
00:36:30Larry, very, very close.
00:36:31I got a 2-1
00:36:32Jose Luis Ramirez
00:36:33because of the fact
00:36:34that I think he's
00:36:34a little bit more
00:36:35aggressive during
00:36:36the last two rounds.
00:36:37And he's getting
00:36:37in a nice straight left.
00:36:38And I think Jose
00:36:40Julio Cesar Chavez
00:36:41is having a little bit
00:36:42of problems
00:36:43with the left-handed style.
00:36:44Let's take a look at Ramirez
00:36:55as he comes in
00:36:56with a right uppercut
00:36:57and a straight left hand.
00:36:59Now let's take a look
00:37:01at Chavez's heat work.
00:37:04A right that landed
00:37:05on the jaw.
00:37:08You know,
00:37:09when you watch
00:37:09an intra-squad game
00:37:11on a basketball team,
00:37:13players know each other
00:37:14so well that they have
00:37:15trouble scoring
00:37:16and it becomes
00:37:17a defensive exercise.
00:37:18Here are two fighters
00:37:19who know each other
00:37:20completely well
00:37:21and yet both have been
00:37:22able to land effectively.
00:37:23That's right.
00:37:24Good point to bring out
00:37:25this, Jim.
00:37:26Kind of interesting.
00:37:28It proves that
00:37:28if you're willing
00:37:29to throw punches
00:37:30and take chances,
00:37:32you're willing
00:37:32to accept punches.
00:37:34And that's what
00:37:35both of these fighters do.
00:37:36Definitely.
00:37:37Definitely.
00:37:37That they do.
00:37:39Fourth round begins.
00:37:40Already tonight
00:37:41in this arena,
00:37:42one unbeaten
00:37:43world champion
00:37:44has been upset
00:37:45and had his title
00:37:46lifted from him.
00:37:47That, Miguel,
00:37:47happy more of Columbia
00:37:48beaten by Raul Teres,
00:37:5021 years old
00:37:51from Mexico.
00:37:52Chavez is 59-0
00:37:54coming in
00:37:54and for the moment
00:37:55you saw that
00:37:56Harold Letterman
00:37:57and Kevin Rooney
00:37:58both had Ramirez
00:38:00ahead in the early going.
00:38:01But it's close.
00:38:02I should add here
00:38:03that I had Chavez
00:38:04ahead two rounds to one.
00:38:14No change
00:38:15in the pattern
00:38:15of the bout.
00:38:16Ramirez continues
00:38:16the aggressor
00:38:17and continues
00:38:18to land
00:38:19and Chavez
00:38:19continues
00:38:20to counter well.
00:38:21Well, I thought
00:38:22Chavez opened
00:38:23this round well
00:38:24but now Ramirez
00:38:24is starting
00:38:25to come on
00:38:25a little bit.
00:38:28He's going back
00:38:29and forth here.
00:38:30It's a good fight.
00:38:33I'm waiting
00:38:33for the explosion.
00:38:34These are the man
00:38:34that really opens up there.
00:38:38These are the ones
00:38:39gone for the knockout.
00:38:40and I think
00:38:42somewhere along the line
00:38:42that's going to happen.
00:38:44There you go.
00:38:45Oh, he heard him.
00:38:46Ramirez is staggered
00:38:47but doesn't go down.
00:38:49Chavez steps in.
00:38:54Chavez is known
00:38:55for his patience
00:38:55in this situation.
00:38:59Chavez is unable
00:39:02to fire back
00:39:02for the moment
00:39:03and Ramirez
00:39:04is known
00:39:05for firing back
00:39:06in this situation.
00:39:07Chavez ain't doing
00:39:08enough in my opinion.
00:39:11Maybe two patients.
00:39:13He had him hurt.
00:39:13He didn't open up.
00:39:14He didn't open up.
00:39:15He sat back
00:39:16and let the referee
00:39:17break him.
00:39:18I don't understand that.
00:39:20That's where
00:39:20the sparring comes in.
00:39:21They think he's
00:39:21in the gym maybe.
00:39:24That looks good.
00:39:25I'm a little disappointed.
00:39:27No question
00:39:33that Chavez
00:39:34hesitated for a moment
00:39:35when he had the man
00:39:36in trouble.
00:39:36Definitely.
00:39:37He looked at a referee.
00:39:40And Ramirez comes back.
00:39:41Return left
00:39:42by Ramirez
00:39:43for the beauty.
00:39:44But a right hand
00:39:45from Chavez.
00:39:47This is to borrow
00:39:48Larry Merchant's
00:39:49praise,
00:39:50major league punishment
00:39:51on both sides.
00:39:5230 seconds left.
00:39:53Gone to 30.
00:39:55Not exchanged.
00:39:57Good body there.
00:39:59What should Chavez
00:40:00be trying to do?
00:40:02He should have
00:40:02just opened up
00:40:03with everything
00:40:03and went to the body
00:40:04and the head.
00:40:04Head body.
00:40:05Body head.
00:40:06Step to the side.
00:40:07I'm telling you
00:40:08he had him hurt.
00:40:08He backed off.
00:40:14Maybe he bent the over.
00:40:17Maybe he was fearful
00:40:18of Ramirez's
00:40:19known ability
00:40:19to come back
00:40:20in a situation
00:40:21where he is in there.
00:40:22Well, that could be
00:40:23an excuse
00:40:24but he should have
00:40:24opened up.
00:40:26Or possibly
00:40:26it was just
00:40:27his respect.
00:40:29Too much.
00:40:35You have to throw
00:40:36more punches.
00:40:38You have to throw
00:40:39more punches.
00:40:41Are you okay?
00:40:44Did he surprise you
00:40:45with that hook?
00:40:47Use your job.
00:40:49Use your job.
00:40:50Don't let him
00:40:50surprise you again.
00:40:53Keep on punching him.
00:40:55Let's take another look
00:40:56at just how
00:40:57that near knockdown
00:40:58occurred.
00:40:59A good left
00:41:00to the stomach.
00:41:01Chavez counters
00:41:03right over that
00:41:04left to the belly
00:41:05with a right
00:41:06to the jaw.
00:41:08But he refused
00:41:09to go down
00:41:10and comes back
00:41:12later in the round
00:41:12with a straight
00:41:13left hand.
00:41:14What a remarkable
00:41:16fighter
00:41:16Ramirez is.
00:41:18And we are joined
00:41:18now by the
00:41:19unbeaten heavyweight
00:41:20champion of the
00:41:21world, Mike Sison.
00:41:22Mike, your reflections
00:41:23on the first four
00:41:24rounds of this
00:41:25terrific fight.
00:41:26Well, this is a
00:41:27fight that is very
00:41:27difficult to judge
00:41:29because in fighting
00:41:30a fighter like
00:41:31Ramirez, you must
00:41:32move.
00:41:32There's no way
00:41:33you're going to
00:41:33beat Ramirez
00:41:34head on.
00:41:35He's a professional
00:41:36fighter.
00:41:36He takes these
00:41:37punches,
00:41:38unbelievable.
00:41:38He doesn't even
00:41:38blink.
00:41:39And I'm very
00:41:40surprised that
00:41:41Chavez, as soon as
00:41:42he heard him,
00:41:42he should have
00:41:42opened up with
00:41:43everything.
00:41:43He went to the
00:41:44side, the body,
00:41:44the head,
00:41:45coffee, gets
00:41:45through everything
00:41:46he had at him.
00:41:46As what the
00:41:47trainer said, Mike,
00:41:48he was sitting
00:41:49there complaining
00:41:49that Chavez
00:41:50didn't open up
00:41:50more.
00:41:51I think he has
00:41:51a little bit
00:41:52too much respect
00:41:52for this legendary
00:41:53fighter.
00:41:54And we all know
00:41:54he's a great
00:41:55fighter.
00:41:55He's been around.
00:41:57You've got a
00:41:57new career, Mike.
00:41:58Well, we'll
00:41:59see.
00:42:00Mike Tyson is
00:42:01the promoter of
00:42:02this evening's
00:42:03action along with
00:42:04Don King.
00:42:05Congratulations.
00:42:09We're in the
00:42:11fifth round of
00:42:12this WBA and
00:42:13WBC World
00:42:14Championship
00:42:15lightweight bout
00:42:16between Jose
00:42:16Luis Ramirez
00:42:17and the red
00:42:18truck, Julio
00:42:19Cesar Chavez
00:42:19in the white.
00:42:20We're expecting
00:42:21that later on
00:42:22in the evening,
00:42:23Larry Merchant
00:42:23will be able to
00:42:24talk at a little
00:42:24more length
00:42:25with the heavyweight
00:42:26champ, Mike
00:42:27Tyson.
00:42:29Give him up,
00:42:29give him up.
00:42:30Blow, blow.
00:42:33Ramirez comes
00:42:33right back here.
00:42:34Don't hold him.
00:42:35Come on,
00:42:35break.
00:42:36Break.
00:42:36Don't hold him.
00:42:39You think
00:42:43Ramirez is now
00:42:44fully recovered,
00:42:45Mike?
00:42:45Absolutely.
00:42:46He's a special
00:42:47professional fighter
00:42:48in the main
00:42:48it's vain
00:42:49almost.
00:42:50Look at him,
00:42:51he never blinked.
00:42:52Continue to come
00:42:52on.
00:42:53Julio allows
00:42:54Jose Luis Ramirez
00:42:55to back him
00:42:56up.
00:42:57Does that hurt
00:42:57him in the eyes
00:42:57of the judges,
00:42:58you believe?
00:42:59I believe
00:42:59absolutely.
00:43:00I believe
00:43:00that he's
00:43:01thinking about
00:43:01back when they
00:43:02started sparring
00:43:03with one another
00:43:04because I heard
00:43:04they used to
00:43:05have a great deal
00:43:05of sparring
00:43:06with one another
00:43:06and Ramirez
00:43:09is a total
00:43:09professional
00:43:10like I said
00:43:10before.
00:43:11He's going to
00:43:11constantly become
00:43:12like he's
00:43:12so unmethodic.
00:43:14He continues
00:43:14to come
00:43:15and plot
00:43:15and plot
00:43:16never taking
00:43:16a backwood
00:43:17stage.
00:43:18And in
00:43:18due time
00:43:19he'll break
00:43:19Chavez.
00:43:20I know a lot
00:43:20of people don't
00:43:21think he'll
00:43:21break him.
00:43:23Well,
00:43:23Mike,
00:43:23I disagree with
00:43:24that.
00:43:24I agree with
00:43:25everything you
00:43:25said so far
00:43:26but I don't
00:43:26think he'll
00:43:26break Chavez.
00:43:27I agree that
00:43:28he maybe
00:43:28has too much
00:43:29respect there
00:43:30and that
00:43:31goes back
00:43:31to this
00:43:31part of it.
00:43:32I definitely
00:43:32agree with
00:43:33that but I
00:43:34don't think
00:43:34he'll break
00:43:34well a lot
00:43:36of strange
00:43:36things happen
00:43:37in the box
00:43:37that's true
00:43:38as we both
00:43:39know
00:43:40in and out
00:43:42of the box
00:43:4234 seconds
00:43:46to go
00:43:46in the round
00:43:47you've seen
00:43:47both men
00:43:48land at
00:43:48close quarters
00:43:49Chavez
00:43:49continues to
00:43:50land the
00:43:50right hand
00:43:51lead almost
00:43:52whenever he
00:43:52throws
00:43:53he's not
00:43:54doing enough
00:43:55like Mike
00:43:55Tyson said
00:43:56he's not
00:43:56doing enough
00:43:57too much
00:43:58respect
00:43:58if I was
00:44:00in this
00:44:00morning
00:44:00if that was
00:44:01Michael
00:44:01was talking
00:44:01like get
00:44:02out
00:44:02and get
00:44:02right
00:44:02on this
00:44:03round
00:44:03you had
00:44:03him almost
00:44:03out
00:44:04what were
00:44:04you doing
00:44:05Mike
00:44:08wouldn't
00:44:08feel that
00:44:09respect
00:44:09for any
00:44:09opponent
00:44:10would he
00:44:10he hasn't
00:44:11so far
00:44:11round five
00:44:18comes to
00:44:18a close
00:44:19and a very
00:44:20close
00:44:20bout
00:44:21between
00:44:21two great
00:44:22champions
00:44:22just one
00:44:24more thing
00:44:24for the
00:44:25moment
00:44:25Mike
00:44:25did you
00:44:26see the
00:44:26Damiani
00:44:27big spike
00:44:27not at all
00:44:28what happened
00:44:28Damiani
00:44:29lost
00:44:29Damiani
00:44:30stopped
00:44:31them
00:44:31at the end
00:44:31of five
00:44:32rounds
00:44:32on a cut
00:44:33and look
00:44:33very impressive
00:44:34dominated
00:44:35he said
00:44:35he wants to
00:44:36fight you
00:44:37well you
00:44:37know we're
00:44:39around
00:44:39we're not
00:44:40going
00:44:40thank you
00:44:41very much
00:44:41thanks so
00:44:43much Mike
00:44:44we'll be talking
00:44:44to you later
00:44:45Mike Tyson
00:44:46the heavyweight
00:44:47champ
00:44:47goes on his
00:44:48way
00:44:48Larry Merchant
00:44:49we're in the
00:44:52corner here
00:44:52okay
00:44:53use both
00:44:54combination
00:44:56of punches
00:44:59how many times
00:45:02he tries to
00:45:03punch
00:45:04hit him back
00:45:06it appears
00:45:10that Chavez
00:45:11is willing
00:45:13to put on
00:45:14a clinic
00:45:15of boxing
00:45:16here
00:45:17whereas
00:45:18against
00:45:18some fighters
00:45:19he feels
00:45:20he can
00:45:20overwhelm
00:45:21them
00:45:21with aggression
00:45:22and staying
00:45:22on top
00:45:23of them
00:45:23that
00:45:25his quick
00:45:26hands
00:45:27here
00:45:27are more
00:45:29of an advantage
00:45:29than just
00:45:30staying
00:45:30shoulder to
00:45:31shoulder
00:45:31with a guy
00:45:32like Ramirez
00:45:33that's a good point
00:45:35round six
00:45:37begins
00:45:38Kevin
00:45:38your assessment
00:45:39to this point
00:45:39in the bout
00:45:40I have to
00:45:40bout very close
00:45:41I gotta
00:45:42stay in
00:45:42I'm sorry
00:45:48Ramirez
00:45:48has me too
00:45:49and as the round
00:45:50begins
00:45:51Chavez continues
00:45:52to dance
00:45:52go side to side
00:45:53try to present
00:45:54angles to Ramirez
00:45:55who is
00:45:56as Larry Merchant
00:45:57said earlier
00:45:58the bull
00:45:58likes to come
00:45:59straight forward
00:46:00Ramirez
00:46:00bolder and bolder
00:46:02it seems
00:46:02after having
00:46:03been staggered
00:46:05in the fourth round
00:46:06Chavez
00:46:07with the straight
00:46:08right hand again
00:46:09Ramirez has not
00:46:16been able to
00:46:16solve the right
00:46:17hand lead
00:46:17by Julio Cesar
00:46:18Chavez
00:46:18but Chavez
00:46:19doesn't follow up
00:46:20with the left
00:46:20hook of the body
00:46:21and Ramirez
00:46:22stays right in his
00:46:23face
00:46:24he goes side to side
00:46:29but he doesn't
00:46:29punch
00:46:30that's a big
00:46:30mistake
00:46:30on Chavez
00:46:32this part
00:46:32he should be
00:46:33banging
00:46:33and if it goes
00:46:35the distance
00:46:35it will be
00:46:36a very tough
00:46:36fight to score
00:46:37another low blow
00:46:38get away with it
00:46:39Richard Steele
00:46:45normally a very
00:46:46active referee
00:46:47stayed away
00:46:48from the two
00:46:49low blows
00:46:49well he may not
00:46:53have been on the
00:46:53angle of the field
00:46:54we can see him
00:46:55he's going to be
00:46:56he's going to be
00:46:57he's going to be
00:46:57he's going to be
00:46:58he's going to be
00:46:59he's going to be
00:46:59he's going to be
00:47:00he's going to be
00:47:01he's going to be
00:47:01punching it out
00:47:02Chavez just
00:47:03awing with the jab
00:47:04at no time of the
00:47:05fight has he really
00:47:05tried to use it
00:47:06as a weapon
00:47:06and he should
00:47:07snap it right in there
00:47:10good series to the
00:47:19head by Chavez
00:47:20again set up
00:47:21by the right-hand lead
00:47:22Ramirez keeps
00:47:26coming forward
00:47:27they're almost
00:47:42to the midway
00:47:42point of the bout
00:47:43there has been
00:47:44one great moment
00:47:45of drama
00:47:45when Ramirez
00:47:46was staggered
00:47:47in the fourth round
00:47:48and Julio Cesar Chavez
00:47:50let him off the hook
00:47:51that's right
00:47:52he let him off the hook
00:47:52the question I think
00:47:55is whether he did it
00:47:56deliberately
00:47:57I think he did
00:47:59the way I looked at
00:48:00we heard him there
00:48:03the right-hand lead
00:48:04continues to hurt Ramirez
00:48:05again Ramirez staggered
00:48:07this guy's hurt
00:48:10but he's not opening up
00:48:11enough
00:48:11got him hurt again
00:48:14round is going to come
00:48:16to an end
00:48:17before Chavez
00:48:18can do anything
00:48:18with it
00:48:19I've been telling you
00:48:37that you can do it
00:48:39get serious
00:48:40you're a phenomenal guy
00:48:41do it in this round
00:48:43if you want to do it
00:48:44I told you
00:48:45you're doing it fine
00:48:46a little bit more
00:48:47and this is finished
00:48:48come on
00:48:49you are showing
00:48:51that you are very good
00:48:52a little bit more
00:48:53Harold how do you score
00:48:57it so far
00:48:58Larry four rounds
00:48:59this is Pedro
00:48:59Julio Cesar Chavez
00:49:01I think the reason
00:49:02he backed off
00:49:02for the fourth round
00:49:03was he was waiting
00:49:03for the referee to count
00:49:05because he figured
00:49:05that it was a knockdown
00:49:06and Ramirez was very close
00:49:08to being down
00:49:09if his glove would have touched
00:49:10Chavez has just landed
00:49:11too many hard right hands
00:49:12and he's dominating
00:49:13with that hard lead right hand
00:49:15that's a good point
00:49:17but he should have been
00:49:17a nice guy
00:49:18should have opened up
00:49:19for what it's worth
00:49:21I have Chavez
00:49:22ahead
00:49:22five rounds
00:49:24two one
00:49:25I got a three three
00:49:27another lead right
00:49:31Ramirez
00:49:32for the solid right
00:49:33to the jaw
00:49:34Julio Cesar Chavez
00:49:35but Chavez
00:49:36takes the punch
00:49:37very well
00:49:38and he showed
00:49:39against Rosario
00:49:40and
00:49:41Torres Ramirez
00:49:42because he took a lot
00:49:43of punches
00:49:44at the end of that round
00:49:44he can't really
00:49:45comes out fresh
00:49:45like it's the first round
00:49:46that's why he's a true
00:49:48professional
00:49:49like Mike Chavez
00:49:49was saying before
00:49:50he has over 100 fights
00:49:51he's a true professional
00:49:52this guy
00:49:53he's been fighting
00:49:54more than half his life
00:49:55he's 29
00:49:56almost 30
00:49:56and turned pro
00:49:57and he's 14
00:49:58another straight right
00:49:59hand to the jaw
00:50:00that's right
00:50:00he had 11 professional fights
00:50:02by the time
00:50:03of his 15th birthday
00:50:04as a flyweight
00:50:05right about his age
00:50:06no amateur fights
00:50:08good body there
00:50:16another low blow
00:50:17that Chavez
00:50:18got away with
00:50:18it was to the hip
00:50:20I couldn't see
00:50:21from my angle
00:50:22Chavez will be working
00:50:28on a body more
00:50:29and for the first time
00:50:31all night
00:50:31Ramirez looks
00:50:32a little bit worn
00:50:33he looks down
00:50:34at his shoe tops
00:50:35as he stepped back
00:50:35toward the rope
00:50:36it could be
00:50:39that the constant
00:50:40pounding with the right
00:50:41hand is starting
00:50:42to take its toll
00:50:43a left and a right
00:50:44inflow
00:50:45you gotta do more of that
00:50:47you gotta work the body more
00:50:48I think if you work the body more
00:50:49you bring him down
00:50:49that was a good right hand
00:50:51to the body
00:50:51he's opening up
00:50:53and now Ramirez
00:50:54is in trouble again
00:50:55Chavez looks resolute
00:50:58this is brutal punishment
00:51:06Ramirez can't stop the right
00:51:07hand
00:51:08he got him hurt
00:51:11you don't put up
00:51:11everything he has here
00:51:12but he's not
00:51:14in my opinion
00:51:16step to the side and hit him
00:51:17get to the side
00:51:20you talk about respect
00:51:24Chavez is showing
00:51:25perhaps inordinate respect
00:51:27for his friend
00:51:28and former stable mate
00:51:29Jose Luis Ramirez
00:51:30plus well
00:51:31plus Ramirez is on
00:51:32and he's taking his shot
00:51:33well
00:51:33he won't go down
00:51:36he's not fighting back
00:51:38as much right now
00:51:39starting to swell
00:51:40around the left eye
00:51:41if I was Chavez
00:51:42I'd just open up
00:51:42with everything
00:51:43Chavez lands again
00:51:45to the left eye
00:51:46so he can't miss
00:51:47with that right hand
00:51:48if he's holding back
00:51:50I'd hate to see
00:51:50what he does
00:51:51with his enemies
00:51:52okay
00:51:54okay
00:51:55these punches
00:51:57are all landing
00:51:58by Chavez
00:51:59I don't see
00:52:00the killer instinct
00:52:00I don't know
00:52:03maybe it's the other
00:52:04way around Kevin
00:52:05how does Ramirez
00:52:06stand up
00:52:07well he's a
00:52:09two professional
00:52:09fight like we
00:52:10like we talked about
00:52:11Mike had to talk about
00:52:12that's a fact
00:52:14this guy's a truck
00:52:15left hand lands
00:52:17this round has been
00:52:19all Chavez
00:52:19and Oroa goes up
00:52:24for the crowd
00:52:25for all the overbends
00:52:26and Oroa on to
00:52:27a seven round
00:52:28I made that a two
00:52:30point round
00:52:31for Chavez
00:52:32he's very good
00:52:37but he's tired
00:52:38be sure that he's
00:52:41getting tired
00:52:42even though he's
00:52:42so good
00:52:43he's tired
00:52:44he's getting tired
00:52:45and you could do it
00:52:46he's very smart
00:52:48don't let him
00:52:50outsmart you
00:52:51you have to hit him
00:52:54you have to hit him
00:52:55Luis you have to hit him
00:52:57hit him hard
00:52:57you're fighting very well
00:53:10little more pressure
00:53:11little more pressure
00:53:12let's go
00:53:13let's do it now
00:53:14Kevin
00:53:14why are the handlers
00:53:16telling Ramirez
00:53:18who certainly knows
00:53:19better
00:53:19that Chavez
00:53:20is tired
00:53:21I guess he's just
00:53:22trying to soup him up
00:53:23give him confidence
00:53:24he's going to show you
00:53:27sometimes these guys
00:53:28don't know what to watch
00:53:29yeah but the
00:53:31corner man can lie
00:53:32the right hand
00:53:34doesn't lie
00:53:35exactly
00:53:35and he knows that
00:53:37but again
00:53:39you know not just
00:53:40sounding to keep me
00:53:41fitting he's a very
00:53:41he's a top professional
00:53:43fighter this guy
00:53:43this is what a professional
00:53:44fighter does
00:53:45no matter how he feels
00:53:46no matter what happens
00:53:47he performs
00:53:48and that's what Ramirez
00:53:49is doing
00:53:49he's just in my opinion
00:53:51with another
00:53:52potentially top
00:53:54professional fighter
00:53:55that's why I have to
00:53:57disagree with Mike Tyson
00:53:58he won't wear him down
00:53:59there's a good body shot
00:54:03now it is Chavez
00:54:09who backs Ramirez up
00:54:10when they meet head to head
00:54:12in the center of the ring
00:54:13I think the tide has turned
00:54:16here and I think Chavez
00:54:17is going to start to
00:54:18dominate
00:54:18you think that Chavez
00:54:20senses now
00:54:21that he's weakened the ball
00:54:23and he can he can dominate
00:54:26that is in control
00:54:27yes
00:54:27solid right hand
00:54:29see him move at the punch
00:54:30that's what I like about
00:54:33that shit
00:54:33another right hand
00:54:35these are sensational blows
00:54:36at close range
00:54:38Ramirez take them well
00:54:44I don't know what Chavez
00:54:46has for skin
00:54:47but I'll tell you
00:54:49it would make a hell of a
00:54:50sofa
00:54:50it would never
00:54:51it would never wear out
00:54:52well that's another
00:54:55he has another reputation
00:54:56he just has tough skin
00:54:58thick skin
00:54:59and Ramirez's punches
00:55:01have lost their snaps
00:55:02to the extent that Chavez
00:55:03is now willing
00:55:04to stand in head to head
00:55:05and take them
00:55:06in order to dish out
00:55:07his own blows
00:55:08Chavez to the body
00:55:11to the body
00:55:12now he's in close
00:55:14where he should have been
00:55:14right along
00:55:15well I don't think he's
00:55:23worried about what he gets
00:55:23in return now
00:55:24Kevin Ramirez
00:55:25is just clawing at
00:55:26well I'll tell you
00:55:27you better worry a little
00:55:28because he gets tails
00:55:29this guy could hurt him
00:55:30you remember
00:55:31Rosario
00:55:31he had him hurting
00:55:32at 12 rounds
00:55:33almost knocked him out
00:55:34after taking a beating
00:55:35for 12 rounds
00:55:36there was a good right
00:55:41hook right there
00:55:41by Ramirez
00:55:44this is a good exchange
00:55:45here
00:55:46Kevin I don't remember
00:55:49seeing an exchange like
00:55:51this in the corner
00:55:52on the ropes for this long
00:55:54with two guys hammering
00:55:55at each other
00:55:56in quite that almost
00:55:59clinical way
00:56:00you're right
00:56:02a little trickle of blood
00:56:03on the bridge
00:56:03yeah a little trickle of blood
00:56:05on the bridge
00:56:05it's top of his nose
00:56:06oh yeah
00:56:07I think it's here
00:56:08I'm going to exchange it
00:56:10again I'll tell you
00:56:11it's premiered
00:56:11he's right there
00:56:12and look at Travis
00:56:15just back him up
00:56:16with his shoulders
00:56:17that's right
00:56:17right on
00:56:17right on
00:56:18close enough
00:56:18where he can't get hit
00:56:19well
00:56:20they're fighting
00:56:23for a neighborhood
00:56:24championship
00:56:25as well as a world
00:56:26championship
00:56:26and there you saw
00:56:27a real neighborhood
00:56:29war
00:56:29that's right
00:56:31let me see
00:56:35what we have
00:56:36let's do
00:56:39as you were doing
00:56:41before
00:56:41do not try
00:56:44to exchange
00:56:44the punches
00:56:45with him
00:56:45do it
00:56:47as at the beginning
00:56:48as you were doing
00:56:50at the beginning
00:56:51boxing
00:56:51now he cut you
00:56:54already
00:56:54that's not too
00:56:58serious
00:56:59don't worry about it
00:57:00you have to keep
00:57:03on boxing
00:57:03he has one eye
00:57:08almost closed
00:57:09so keep trying
00:57:10at it
00:57:10venga
00:57:11well that cut
00:57:17doesn't really look
00:57:18that bad on his nose
00:57:19but if I was Ramirez
00:57:19I'd go right after
00:57:20with that straight
00:57:21left hand
00:57:21I've got to bust it
00:57:23open
00:57:23but it doesn't look
00:57:24bad to me
00:57:25if I'm Chavez
00:57:26I'm going to get
00:57:27close
00:57:27work the body
00:57:28and go to the head
00:57:29Larry we're into the ninth
00:57:34and the Mexican fans
00:57:35who drove up from
00:57:36south of the border
00:57:37have gotten their
00:57:38money's worth
00:57:38so are all those
00:57:41out in television land
00:57:42who are seeing
00:57:44two little giants
00:57:46at their best
00:57:47two top professional
00:57:49fighters
00:57:49at their best
00:57:50these guys are both
00:57:51professional fighters
00:57:53in the two cents
00:57:53the professional
00:57:54in the sense
00:57:55Kevin
00:57:55that you've got
00:57:57from Custom Auto
00:57:59they're here to entertain
00:58:00they're here to
00:58:02really fight
00:58:03that's what I'm talking
00:58:04about
00:58:04give it their all
00:58:06take the shot
00:58:06come back
00:58:07move their head
00:58:07the one man
00:58:09takes a lot
00:58:09keeps coming
00:58:10Chavez moves the
00:58:12I like that
00:58:12it looks good
00:58:13boy
00:58:15two right hands
00:58:15solid right hand
00:58:16lead
00:58:17it's a follow
00:58:19as you pointed out
00:58:20Kevin
00:58:20the holy
00:58:21the holy
00:58:22great
00:58:22Jose Luis Ramirez
00:58:24has said
00:58:25that he was almost
00:58:26forced into this
00:58:27bout
00:58:27that a part of him
00:58:28didn't want to fight
00:58:29his close personal
00:58:30friend Julio Cesar
00:58:32Chavez
00:58:32and both men say
00:58:33regardless of the
00:58:34outcome
00:58:35the friendship
00:58:36lasts forever
00:58:37I believe that
00:58:38and that's why
00:58:39I mean
00:58:39they're professional
00:58:40fighters
00:58:40they're great
00:58:41friends
00:58:41that went in
00:58:42this ring
00:58:42and they're fighting
00:58:43like their bitter enemies
00:58:44and although it isn't
00:58:45official
00:58:46they'll also get
00:58:47from what I've heard
00:58:48close to $900,000
00:58:50each
00:58:50which should help
00:58:51cement the friendship
00:58:52that's right
00:58:53that will keep your friend
00:58:54for doing something
00:58:57they used to do
00:58:58for nothing
00:58:59that's right
00:58:59two solid laps
00:59:02on a right hand
00:59:03by Chavez
00:59:04and the accuracy
00:59:05of his punches
00:59:06taking the toll
00:59:06then he got out of there
00:59:07it's another good
00:59:12round for Chavez
00:59:12and more and more
00:59:15it looks like
00:59:16Chavez
00:59:16is going to be content
00:59:17to try to rack up
00:59:19a decision
00:59:19and depend on
00:59:20the judges
00:59:20here
00:59:21that's right
00:59:21just how point
00:59:22well if he hurt
00:59:23them along the line
00:59:24again
00:59:24I would like to see
00:59:24if he'll answer
00:59:25very good
00:59:28there was some
00:59:33power punches
00:59:34by Ramirez
00:59:34went downstairs
00:59:35upstairs
00:59:36answered by Chavez
00:59:37it's a very
00:59:41entertaining fight
00:59:42Kevin
00:59:42more and more
00:59:43it appears
00:59:44that the tide
00:59:44of the bout
00:59:45has turned
00:59:45in Julio's favor
00:59:46he's won the last
00:59:47several rounds
00:59:47what must Ramirez
00:59:49do to reverse it
00:59:50again
00:59:50I think he had
00:59:52to jump on
00:59:52exchange with him
00:59:54hoping to catch him
00:59:55with a good shot
00:59:56to open up a little bit
00:59:57back him up
00:59:58he's letting him
00:59:58bar
00:59:59from the total
00:59:59of tempo
01:00:00he gets a lot of rope
01:00:02he lets him get off
01:00:02he's got to keep him
01:00:03on the rope
01:00:03maybe get a little rough
01:00:04grab him
01:00:05hold him
01:00:06there's no trick
01:00:07he can do
01:00:07he better do it
01:00:09or he's going to lose
01:00:10this fight
01:00:10Chavez landing
01:00:12right hand
01:00:12after right hand
01:00:14Ramirez has never
01:00:15found a defense
01:00:16for it
01:00:16at any time
01:00:17in the nine
01:00:18nearly completed rounds
01:00:20now complete
01:00:21and they touch gloves
01:00:23I don't like that
01:00:23better
01:00:26Harold
01:00:32how do you have it
01:00:33at this stage
01:00:34of the game
01:00:34Larry I got it
01:00:3588 to 83
01:00:3672 in round
01:00:37for about Julio
01:00:38Cesar Chavez
01:00:39Jose Luis
01:00:40and Ramirez
01:00:40just doesn't seem
01:00:41to have any power
01:00:42left hand
01:00:43and I think Julio
01:00:44Cesar Chavez
01:00:44is just martyring him
01:00:45with those right hand
01:00:46please and Chavez
01:00:47is just sweeping
01:00:48the last five rounds
01:00:49in a row
01:00:50and he's winning
01:00:50the fight's very very big
01:00:52agreed
01:00:53agreed
01:00:55so we're unanimous
01:00:58there you go
01:01:01that's not
01:01:05what you would call
01:01:06a classic right hand
01:01:08it's a kind of
01:01:08somewhere between
01:01:09a jab
01:01:10and a big right hand
01:01:12and a hook
01:01:12it's not a punch
01:01:14that's designed
01:01:15to really hurt
01:01:17not to knock you out
01:01:18just to annoy you
01:01:19it's all more
01:01:21to take
01:01:21although I confess
01:01:24that I wouldn't want
01:01:25to be on the end of it
01:01:26three rounds to go
01:01:28and this champion
01:01:28just out
01:01:29increasingly dominated
01:01:30by the man
01:01:31in the white trunk
01:01:32unbeaten
01:01:32WBA world
01:01:34lightweight champion
01:01:35Julio Cesar Chavez
01:01:37the one thing about
01:01:43Romero is you can't
01:01:44count them out
01:01:45we can remember
01:01:49the Rosario fight
01:01:50Rosario had him
01:01:51down twice
01:01:52the first couple
01:01:53of rounds
01:01:54he looked at
01:01:55he was gone
01:01:56and he stopped
01:01:58Rosario in the fourth round
01:01:59and if I remember
01:02:00I think it was
01:02:01the second round
01:02:01when he heard
01:02:02he heard Chavez
01:02:03over in the corner
01:02:04he opened up
01:02:04that's what he has
01:02:05to do
01:02:06to get back in
01:02:07to have a chance
01:02:08to win
01:02:08he's going to have
01:02:08to knock him out
01:02:09Chavez has twice
01:02:12had Ramirez
01:02:13seemingly
01:02:13close out of his feet
01:02:15and about
01:02:16neither time
01:02:17was he able
01:02:17to knock him down
01:02:18that was a good
01:02:18right hook
01:02:19by Ramirez
01:02:20Chavez took it well
01:02:21that was his best
01:02:22punch in many rounds
01:02:23I think he hurt him
01:02:24a little bit
01:02:24this is a good
01:02:35exchange
01:02:35this is entertainment
01:02:36though
01:02:36solid right hand
01:02:38by Chavez
01:02:38another one
01:02:39three in the last
01:02:41several seconds
01:02:42a fourth solid
01:02:43right hand
01:02:43by Chavez
01:02:44Ramirez continues
01:02:45to stand
01:02:46and deliver
01:02:46in reserve
01:02:47refuses to go
01:02:48oh boy
01:02:52I take my hat
01:02:53up to these two
01:02:54guys
01:02:54right now
01:02:55no matter what
01:02:55happens
01:02:56I take the rematch
01:03:01oh here he goes
01:03:07only once
01:03:09in his 59 bouts
01:03:11and 50 knockouts
01:03:12as Julio Cesar Chavez
01:03:14put a man away
01:03:14past the ninth round
01:03:16that was Edwin
01:03:17Rosario
01:03:17here in Las Vegas
01:03:18in a bout
01:03:21somewhat similar
01:03:22to this one
01:03:23maybe Lightning
01:03:24will strike
01:03:24probably not
01:03:26of course Chavez
01:03:29has never been
01:03:30knocked out
01:03:30he's unbeaten
01:03:31I'm trying to remember
01:03:32to score some strong
01:03:33punches this round
01:03:34this has been Ramirez's
01:03:36best round in the one
01:03:37definitely
01:03:38he hurt this guy
01:03:39this guy's a good
01:03:40professional fighter
01:03:41take it well
01:03:42he comes back
01:03:44good round
01:03:45good round
01:03:46it's just target
01:03:47it's just target
01:03:47practice with the right
01:03:48hand
01:03:48though
01:03:49Ramirez
01:03:50can't even block it
01:03:51with the left
01:03:52he doesn't even try
01:03:53he should be bending
01:03:54he's concentrating on that
01:03:56I tell him that in the corner
01:03:57I chastised on the bottom
01:04:00look at the heart of Jose Luis
01:04:03Ramirez
01:04:03press it forward
01:04:04always flying
01:04:05another right hand
01:04:07this is remarkable
01:04:13sustained punishment
01:04:14that Ramirez has been able
01:04:16to endure
01:04:16and continue to fight
01:04:18fight well
01:04:20he won that round
01:04:20I agree
01:04:22this is like one of those movies
01:04:25where you see so many punches
01:04:27you say
01:04:28nobody can take those punches
01:04:30this is fiction
01:04:31and what we're seeing here
01:04:34is two guys who are
01:04:35making reality out of that kind of fiction
01:04:38now you have cut him twice
01:04:39you keep on boxing
01:04:42boxing
01:04:43job
01:04:43job
01:04:44job
01:04:44but keep on working on him
01:04:45fight to hit him on the chest
01:04:50we're all behind you
01:04:54don't let him hit you
01:05:01keep on punching
01:05:03don't let him hit you
01:05:05always repeat your punches
01:05:07repeat your right hand
01:05:10if it goes on this way
01:05:18both men can go back to the old
01:05:21neighborhood with pride
01:05:23with their heads held high
01:05:24that's right
01:05:24six minutes to go
01:05:26Julio Cesar Chavez
01:05:29and the white struck
01:05:30Jose Luis Ramirez
01:05:31in the red
01:05:32we heard mostly cheerleading
01:05:33from the corners
01:05:34there wasn't really any
01:05:35substance to what they were saying
01:05:37I don't think we're going to see
01:05:40anything too much different
01:05:41Kevin
01:05:41no we're not
01:05:42but if I was in the corner
01:05:44of Ramirez
01:05:44that's how we got to get out there
01:05:46and really try to rough this guy up
01:05:47and open up
01:05:48he managed to split punches that round
01:05:50he heard of it
01:05:51the man thinks he got well
01:05:52just go for it
01:05:54he's got to go for a knockout
01:05:55that's what I would be telling
01:05:56Mike Tyson
01:05:57still alongside us here
01:05:59at ringside
01:06:00and ready to talk with us
01:06:01a little bit more about
01:06:03what's going on
01:06:03in his own life
01:06:04in his career
01:06:05right after this bout
01:06:06tremendous championship action
01:06:10in the ring
01:06:11right hand
01:06:11there's a cut
01:06:12I do not stop the fight
01:06:15over that
01:06:15no way
01:06:16no how
01:06:17now we know that Ramirez
01:06:18is cut
01:06:19Chavez is not
01:06:20no blood coming
01:06:21from Chavez
01:06:21does not stop this fight
01:06:23Chavez is shaking his head
01:06:25because he's disappointed
01:06:26I've been
01:06:26you know I've been
01:06:27curious all along
01:06:29two fighters who are noted
01:06:31for going forward
01:06:32when and if that might happen
01:06:34it was a distinct possibility
01:06:36I'm certainly glad
01:06:38it didn't happen
01:06:39early in the fight
01:06:40accidental blood
01:06:41that was an accidental
01:06:42blood
01:06:42let's clarify that right now
01:06:43particularly with the southpaw
01:06:46against the conventional fighters
01:06:47there it is
01:06:47there you saw
01:06:48both fighters coming straight ahead
01:06:50and they stopped the fight
01:06:51it's hard to see from here
01:06:55how bad that cut is
01:06:56except that it is trickling directly
01:06:59into the ice
01:07:00it's trickling down
01:07:00so what
01:07:01it doesn't look that bad
01:07:02a painful anti-climax
01:07:04in the ring
01:07:05neither fighter satisfied with this
01:07:08that's nothing
01:07:10I think crazy
01:07:10the tactical players
01:07:11how
01:07:13okay well
01:07:14in my estimation
01:07:15I think they're going to go
01:07:16to the scorecard
01:07:17you deduct a point
01:07:19in the WBC rules
01:07:21from the fighter
01:07:22who is not injured
01:07:24in other words
01:07:25you deduct one point
01:07:27from Julio Cesar Chavez
01:07:29you then score the 11th round
01:07:32deduct a point from Chavez
01:07:34and go to the scorecard
01:07:36on an accidental blood
01:07:37and I think that's what's going to happen
01:07:39oh that was a bad little bang
01:07:48but
01:07:48ah
01:07:49hand to hand
01:07:55and head to head comeback
01:07:57and I'm a little surprised
01:07:59that this hasn't happened earlier
01:08:00and grateful
01:08:02well
01:08:04I can argue with that a little bit
01:08:06because their boys were fighting
01:08:08well but they knew what they were doing
01:08:09so when you know what you're doing
01:08:10you don't bang your head
01:08:11that was an accidental bunt
01:08:13their boys were coming at the same angle
01:08:14which you know what happened
01:08:15a lot of times
01:08:17with a southpaw
01:08:18against a conventional fighter
01:08:19it happens in the first minute
01:08:20of the first round
01:08:21that's right
01:08:21but they're two good fighters
01:08:22they know what they're doing
01:08:22and they know each other
01:08:23I still say they should stop the fight
01:08:26they never stepped on each other's feet
01:08:27they never entangled themselves
01:08:29I'll tell you this
01:08:29I'll tell you this fellas
01:08:30if you had a division of
01:08:32of troops like
01:08:33like these two guys
01:08:34you could conquer the world
01:08:35let me say this
01:08:36let me say this
01:08:37this is why I disagree with
01:08:39doctors having the power
01:08:40to stop fights
01:08:40and whatnot
01:08:41that's not to stop the fight
01:08:43all right
01:08:44Chavez is winning
01:08:45but that guy has a chance
01:08:46to knock out at any point in time
01:08:47now that's my reason
01:08:49right there
01:08:49this is a good entertaining fight
01:08:51you took away two rounds
01:08:52for this man
01:08:52maybe to have a chance
01:08:53maybe
01:08:54here we go
01:08:54we're seeing the screen
01:08:55now
01:08:55don't look
01:08:55it's nothing
01:08:56it's nothing
01:08:57that was a bad call
01:08:59that's a bad call
01:09:00you think that he based
01:09:02his decision on the fact
01:09:03that Chavez
01:09:05was far ahead
01:09:06and so he decided
01:09:08in a questionable situation
01:09:10exactly
01:09:10yes
01:09:11and I don't think
01:09:11he should do that
01:09:12the man wanted to keep fighting
01:09:13unless the man said
01:09:14something
01:09:14he did
01:09:15he showed very
01:09:16disappointment
01:09:17disappointment in his face
01:09:18I mean things like that
01:09:20piss me off
01:09:20right now
01:09:21this is in the hands
01:09:22of Lou Tabat
01:09:23Art Lurie
01:09:24and Rudy Jordan
01:09:25the three judges
01:09:27empowered
01:09:27by the State Boxing Commission
01:09:30here in Nevada
01:09:30to now determine
01:09:31who will be
01:09:33the winner
01:09:33of this bout
01:09:35is it going to the scorecards
01:09:36is it an accident on the box
01:09:37well Harold Letterman
01:09:38is suggesting that
01:09:39it will go to the scorecards
01:09:41and that is the WBA rule
01:09:44which is being used
01:09:45in this instance
01:09:45but we haven't
01:09:46have we heard anything
01:09:47Harold Letterman
01:09:50let's open Harold
01:09:51one more time
01:09:51for a final analysis
01:09:52here
01:09:53okay Jim
01:09:54it's not the WBA rule
01:09:55it is the WBC rule
01:09:57in a WBC rule
01:09:58on an accidental butt
01:10:00one point
01:10:01is deducted
01:10:02from the fighter
01:10:02who is not injured
01:10:04in other words
01:10:05one point
01:10:06will be deducted
01:10:07from the score
01:10:08of Julio Cesar Chavez
01:10:09I believe that
01:10:10they will score
01:10:11the 11th round
01:10:12and the person
01:10:13who has the most points
01:10:14after the one point
01:10:16is deducted
01:10:16from Chavez's score
01:10:18will be the winner
01:10:19now in our estimation
01:10:20Chavez is far ahead
01:10:21so Chavez should win
01:10:22on a technical decision
01:10:24right okay
01:10:24let's go up the duck call
01:10:25right now
01:10:25and find out
01:10:26ladies and gentlemen
01:10:29here is the decision
01:10:30as rendered
01:10:31referee Richard Steele
01:10:33deducts one point
01:10:34from the score
01:10:34of Julio Cesar Chavez
01:10:35for the bust
01:10:37that has just occurred
01:10:38I will now read
01:10:39the scores
01:10:40of the officials
01:10:41Judge Rudy Jordan
01:10:44scores the bouts
01:10:4496-94
01:10:47Judge Lou Tabbitt
01:10:49scores the bouts
01:10:4995-93
01:10:52and Judge Art Lurie
01:10:54scores the bouts
01:10:5598-91
01:10:57the winner
01:10:59on a technical decision
01:11:00and now
01:11:02the possessor
01:11:03of two
01:11:03lightweight championship belts
01:11:05Julio Cesar
01:11:08jumped there
01:11:09that's right
01:11:13pretty close though
01:11:15Kevin
01:11:15too close
01:11:16too close
01:11:17the one judge
01:11:17had it right
01:11:18what do you have
01:11:19Harold
01:11:20well after
01:11:21deducting a point
01:11:22I would have had
01:11:23it 97 for Chavez
01:11:2592 for Jose
01:11:26Louis Ramirez
01:11:27I had Chavez
01:11:28five points ahead
01:11:29I think that sounds
01:11:29about right
01:11:30I want that way
01:11:31of other scores
01:11:31it became so close
01:11:32a lot of even rounds
01:11:33Harold you think
01:11:34or what
01:11:34well Kevin
01:11:35I'll tell you the truth
01:11:36Jose Luis Ramirez
01:11:37was the aggressor
01:11:38and obviously
01:11:39they gave him credit
01:11:40for aggressiveness
01:11:41I didn't think
01:11:42it was effective
01:11:42aggressiveness
01:11:43I thought that
01:11:44when Ramirez
01:11:44would move forward
01:11:45he would get nailed
01:11:46by Julio Cesar
01:11:47Chavez's right hand
01:11:48so you actually
01:11:49score on four points
01:11:51a clean punching
01:11:51effective aggressiveness
01:11:52ring general
01:11:53ship of defense
01:11:54but it has to be
01:11:55effective aggressiveness
01:11:56and this is the reason
01:11:57I think the judges
01:11:58scored that many
01:11:59points for Ramirez
01:12:00they gave it to him
01:12:01on his effectiveness
01:12:02but yet I still think
01:12:03it was an effective
01:12:04aggressiveness
01:12:04I think that
01:12:05Julio Cesar Chavez
01:12:07landed the clean
01:12:08hard punch
01:12:08but you make a good
01:12:09point Harold
01:12:10some judges
01:12:10are tremendously
01:12:11swayed just by
01:12:12which fighter
01:12:13is coming forward
01:12:14through most of the
01:12:15but my point is
01:12:16what would a round
01:12:17be scored
01:12:17even round
01:12:18when he gave him
01:12:18to Ramirez
01:12:19because I have it
01:12:20what 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
01:12:236 rounds for Chavez
01:12:2470 give him the 11
01:12:26well let's look
01:12:27at the final punch
01:12:28statistics in the bout
01:12:29give us a profile
01:12:30of what happened
01:12:31in the bout
01:12:31you can see
01:12:32that according
01:12:32to our computer
01:12:33operators
01:12:34Julio Cesar Chavez
01:12:35landed 56%
01:12:36of his punches
01:12:37Ramirez
01:12:37was the more
01:12:38active fighter
01:12:39let's go to
01:12:39Larry Merchant
01:12:40in the ring
01:12:41right now
01:12:41with the winner
01:12:42Julio Cesar Chavez
01:12:43Julio
01:12:45what happened
01:12:46as you saw
01:12:47on the cut
01:12:48and do you think
01:12:49it was serious
01:12:49enough to stop
01:12:50the fight
01:12:51I still haven't seen
01:13:00the cut
01:13:01when he comes in
01:13:04he comes out
01:13:05with his head
01:13:06do you feel
01:13:08that both of you
01:13:09have won your honor
01:13:11in this fight
01:13:12that you can go
01:13:13back home
01:13:13feeling that
01:13:14you both performed
01:13:15as well as you could
01:13:17I think so
01:13:25it was a very good fight
01:13:26I did my fight
01:13:28I didn't want the fight
01:13:41to be stopped
01:13:43because there was
01:13:56too much money
01:13:56too much money
01:13:56involved
01:13:57where exactly
01:13:58were you hurt
01:13:59right here
01:14:02at this point
01:14:03in the fourth round
01:14:04you staggered him
01:14:06and then you backed off
01:14:08why didn't you finish him
01:14:10then
01:14:10if you were feeling hurt
01:14:11I don't know
01:14:20I'm sorry
01:14:20I don't know
01:14:21I'm sorry
01:14:21do you think
01:14:23do you think
01:14:24there was in you
01:14:25a little bit
01:14:26too much respect
01:14:28for him
01:14:29at that stage
01:14:29of the fight
01:14:30I don't know
01:14:37I really don't know
01:14:40I think I did
01:14:43a very intelligent fight
01:14:45it wasn't useful
01:14:49to punch with him
01:14:51to change
01:14:52I only did it
01:14:55when it was needed
01:14:56was the fact
01:14:57that your rib
01:14:58was hurt
01:14:59the reason
01:15:00for the fact
01:15:01that you stood outside
01:15:02and wanted
01:15:03to box him
01:15:04and take him apart
01:15:05in that fashion
01:15:06rather than
01:15:06to overwhelm him
01:15:08at the start
01:15:08how do you feel now
01:15:21about
01:15:22what you're going
01:15:23to go to next
01:15:24upwards
01:15:25to the
01:15:26junior welterweight championship
01:15:28I don't know
01:15:29I don't know
01:15:29don't change
01:15:30thank you
01:15:31I love you too much
01:15:32what did you know
01:15:34I don't know
01:15:35what you do want
01:15:37to go on
01:15:37to fight the bigger men
01:15:39yes very good
01:15:40yes very good
01:15:41just one quote
01:15:42from you
01:15:42you said
01:15:43you want to leave
01:15:44tracks
01:15:44in this life
01:15:46what do you mean
01:15:47by that
01:15:47I want everybody
01:15:55to remember me
01:15:56as a great fighter
01:15:56thank you very much
01:15:59I love you all
01:15:59thank you
01:16:00thank you
01:16:02and back
01:16:03to Jim and Kevin
01:16:05alright
01:16:06thanks Larry
01:16:06Kevin
01:16:07a lot of people
01:16:08feel that
01:16:08the only man
01:16:09in the sport
01:16:10of boxing
01:16:10who is comparable
01:16:11to the fighter
01:16:11you train
01:16:12Mike Tyson
01:16:12in terms of
01:16:13his dominance
01:16:14his skill
01:16:15his ability
01:16:15to excel
01:16:16in his division
01:16:17is Julio Cesar
01:16:18Tevez
01:16:18how do you rank him
01:16:19in the overall
01:16:20boxing world
01:16:20after what you saw
01:16:21tonight
01:16:21well I have to put him
01:16:23up to the top
01:16:23of the game
01:16:24right now
01:16:24just be the
01:16:25determined
01:16:26professional fighter
01:16:27he shows
01:16:27a lot of
01:16:28professional qualities
01:16:29he may be even
01:16:30a little more
01:16:31professional
01:16:31than Mike Tyson
01:16:32right now
01:16:32I mean there's a lot
01:16:33of young fighters
01:16:33out there that have
01:16:34potential to reach
01:16:34that point
01:16:35but he's at that
01:16:36point right now
01:16:37we'll have more
01:16:38chance to talk
01:16:39about that
01:16:39in a little while
01:16:40let's go back
01:16:40to Larry Merchant
01:16:41in the ring
01:16:41alright I'm with
01:16:42Richard Steele
01:16:43the referee
01:16:44would you describe
01:16:45why the fight
01:16:47was stopped
01:16:47on a cut
01:16:48that from us
01:16:49in ringside
01:16:50on the other side
01:16:51of the ring
01:16:51appeared not to be
01:16:52that serious
01:16:53the cut
01:16:54the cut was very
01:16:55bad
01:16:55the cut was
01:16:56in a bad position
01:16:57because it was
01:16:58right in the middle
01:16:59of the eye
01:16:59between the eyes
01:17:01it was high
01:17:01but it was between
01:17:02the eyes
01:17:03that means that
01:17:03the blood would
01:17:04would have been
01:17:06going into his eyes
01:17:07if we had to let
01:17:08the fight go on
01:17:09you don't think
01:17:10somehow
01:17:11and you can describe
01:17:12this to us
01:17:13as you see it
01:17:13this was right
01:17:14after the fight
01:17:15after they banged
01:17:17head
01:17:17that a fighter
01:17:18who fought as bravely
01:17:20and courageously
01:17:21as Ramirez
01:17:21in this fight
01:17:22what do you think
01:17:23he deserves
01:17:23the opportunity
01:17:24to show even
01:17:25if he can complete
01:17:26that round
01:17:27yeah
01:17:27well you know
01:17:28we gave him
01:17:29every opportunity
01:17:30you know
01:17:30all through the fight
01:17:32you know
01:17:32he fought a very
01:17:33courageous
01:17:33very good fight
01:17:35you know
01:17:35but we cannot
01:17:36we can't let a fight
01:17:37go on when a guy
01:17:38is seriously hurt
01:17:39and that was
01:17:40seriously cut
01:17:42and most of the time
01:17:43I have seen
01:17:44during all the years
01:17:45that that cut
01:17:45is going to
01:17:46just keep on
01:17:47going down
01:17:47and keep getting lost
01:17:49just this last thing
01:17:50Richard
01:17:50the fact that
01:17:51it appeared
01:17:52that Chavez
01:17:53was winning
01:17:54the fight
01:17:54perhaps even
01:17:55dominating it
01:17:56in the late round
01:17:57does that go
01:17:58into the equation
01:18:00when you decide
01:18:01to stop a fight
01:18:02on that kind
01:18:02of a situation
01:18:03that has a lot
01:18:05to do with it
01:18:05because the guy
01:18:06was getting stronger
01:18:07you know
01:18:08Chavez is a wonderful
01:18:09fighter
01:18:09he's a good
01:18:10counter puncher
01:18:11he's a good
01:18:12banger
01:18:12he's a good
01:18:13monster
01:18:13he's very clever
01:18:14you know
01:18:15and he was
01:18:16showing that he
01:18:16was the best
01:18:17tonight
01:18:18so that went
01:18:18into the decision
01:18:19you might as well
01:18:20stop it now
01:18:21before any further
01:18:21damage
01:18:22thank you Richard
01:18:23thank you
01:18:23Jim
01:18:23all right
01:18:26thanks very much
01:18:26Larry
01:18:27and while Larry
01:18:27tries to get a hold
01:18:28of Jose Luis Ramirez
01:18:29I will remind you
01:18:30that we still expect
01:18:31before we leave the air
01:18:32to have a few moments
01:18:34to talk with
01:18:34the world heavyweight
01:18:35champion
01:18:36Mike Tyson
01:18:37who became
01:18:37in partnership
01:18:38either formally
01:18:39or informally
01:18:40with Don King
01:18:40it's open to question
01:18:41exactly what the
01:18:42arrangement was
01:18:43at this moment
01:18:43the co-promoter
01:18:45at least
01:18:45of tonight's card
01:18:47and Larry Merchant
01:18:48gets ready to talk
01:18:49to Jose Luis Ramirez
01:18:50one more brief
01:18:51comment from you
01:18:51Kevin Rooney
01:18:52you say you might
01:18:53have disagreed
01:18:53with the decision
01:18:54to stop the fight
01:18:55there but to give
01:18:55credit where credit
01:18:56is due
01:18:56a lot of people
01:18:57believe this man
01:18:58is the best
01:18:58referee in boxing
01:18:59do they not
01:19:00well I've heard that
01:19:02but I listened to
01:19:03what I just had to say
01:19:04and I totally
01:19:05disagree with what
01:19:06he said about
01:19:07stopping the fight
01:19:08the man was this
01:19:09the man was that
01:19:09the blood was not
01:19:11pouring down in his eyes
01:19:12you have to give
01:19:13the corner man
01:19:14the cut man
01:19:14a chance to stop
01:19:15the blood
01:19:16I'm not sure
01:19:16what time
01:19:17was left
01:19:17I totally just
01:19:18do everything
01:19:18they said
01:19:19it's politics
01:19:20I disagree with it
01:19:21the man
01:19:22if the man
01:19:22wanted to keep
01:19:23fighting
01:19:23he should have
01:19:24been left
01:19:25to keep fighting
01:19:25let's see what
01:19:26he got to say
01:19:26up here about
01:19:27Kevin Rooney
01:19:28in a memorable
01:19:28debut
01:19:29and we go back
01:19:29to Larry Merchant
01:19:30alright
01:19:32Jose Luis
01:19:33could you tell us
01:19:35whether you thought
01:19:36the fight
01:19:37should have been
01:19:38stopped
01:19:38on that cut
01:19:39could you have
01:19:40continued
01:19:40I could have
01:19:52continued fighting
01:19:52but they stopped
01:19:53are you angry
01:19:55that they stopped
01:19:56do you still feel
01:19:57you had a chance
01:19:58to pull out
01:19:59a miracle knockout
01:20:00I was confident
01:20:11because I think
01:20:12this wasn't too fair
01:20:14do you feel
01:20:16as Chávez feels
01:20:19that you fought
01:20:20your best
01:20:21and that you can
01:20:22go home feeling
01:20:23that you did your best
01:20:24yes I think
01:20:39I was winning
01:20:39this fight
01:20:40because he was
01:20:41only boxing
01:20:41and I was
01:20:42doing the pressure
01:20:43did anything
01:20:45happen in there
01:20:46that reminded you
01:20:47of the old days
01:20:48when you used
01:20:49to spar together
01:20:50or was it
01:20:51a different feeling
01:20:51it was always
01:21:04the same as always
01:21:05we've been fighting
01:21:05this way for years
01:21:07and it was the same thing
01:21:08only you used
01:21:09to do it for nothing
01:21:10and tonight
01:21:10you got a lot
01:21:11of money for it
01:21:12life is like that
01:21:18that's life
01:21:19thank you
01:21:20and thank you
01:21:21for a great performance
01:21:22he says he wants
01:21:26to come back
01:21:26for a rematch
01:21:27he's not happy
01:21:28with it
01:21:29he's going to
01:21:29come back
01:21:30for a rematch
01:21:30that's how
01:21:32a true warrior
01:21:33would feel
01:21:33after a fight
01:21:34like that
01:21:35Jim
01:21:35alright
01:21:37thanks very much
01:21:38Larry
01:21:38so just to sum up
01:21:39we saw
01:21:40a tremendous
01:21:41battle
01:21:41between two
01:21:42great champions
01:21:43Jose Luis Ramirez
01:21:44and Julio Cesar Chavez
01:21:46coming up
01:21:47an interview now
01:21:48with Mike Tyson
01:21:49as Larry Merchant
01:21:50makes his way
01:21:51toward Tyson
01:21:51and we rejoin
01:21:53Tyson's trainer
01:21:53Kevin Rooney
01:21:54and just to bring you
01:21:55up to date again
01:21:56Chavez moves up
01:21:57to 60 and 0
01:21:58according to our
01:21:59official count
01:22:00and becomes champion
01:22:01in both the WBA
01:22:02and WBC statistics
01:22:04and Jose Luis Ramirez
01:22:06drops to 101
01:22:07and 7
01:22:09and loses
01:22:09I think
01:22:10none of his luster
01:22:11as a great warrior
01:22:12and tonight
01:22:14if you're a fight fan
01:22:15in your heart
01:22:15you're probably
01:22:16just a little bit
01:22:17Mexican
01:22:17after watching
01:22:18this tremendous battle
01:22:19Kevin
01:22:19we're probably
01:22:20not going to get
01:22:20a chance
01:22:21after the Mike Tyson
01:22:22interview
01:22:22to talk with you
01:22:23about your reflections
01:22:24on what's happening
01:22:25to the fighter
01:22:26you train
01:22:26given the changes
01:22:27of the last few weeks
01:22:28and while Larry
01:22:29gets ready to talk
01:22:30with Mike
01:22:30are you optimistic
01:22:31about the heavyweight
01:22:32champion's future career?
01:22:34I'm optimistic
01:22:35it has to be
01:22:36I'm a professional
01:22:37I feel if I get
01:22:37my fighter back
01:22:38in the gym
01:22:39he's under my tutelage
01:22:40that I'll get him
01:22:41back where his mind
01:22:42belongs
01:22:42and that is
01:22:43only concentrating
01:22:45on being
01:22:46the best fighter
01:22:47you can be
01:22:48not being a promoter
01:22:49he's too young
01:22:50to be a promoter
01:22:50right now
01:22:51I think it's
01:22:51a bunch of hogwash
01:22:52but if I can get him
01:22:53in the gym
01:22:54let's get back
01:22:54to what guy
01:22:55where you're at
01:22:56you're a fighter
01:22:57you're a fighter first
01:22:58he seems to be
01:22:59more and more
01:23:00under the wing
01:23:01of promoter Don King
01:23:02and less and less
01:23:04a part of the world
01:23:05in which he was
01:23:06nurtured in boxing
01:23:07the world created
01:23:08by Castamaro
01:23:09and Jimmy Jacobs
01:23:09and Bill Caton
01:23:11and yourself
01:23:11does that bother you?
01:23:13well I mean
01:23:14it's a tiny bit
01:23:15of a concern
01:23:16I try to ignore it all
01:23:17I mean the fighter
01:23:17doesn't do what he
01:23:18wants to do anyway
01:23:18he's a person
01:23:19what he does outside
01:23:20of the boxing ring
01:23:21is that's his business
01:23:22I want him in the ring
01:23:23if you want to be a fighter
01:23:24come back into the gym
01:23:25come back to
01:23:26Castamaro New York
01:23:26if you want to train
01:23:27in Cleveland
01:23:28I'll go there
01:23:29I'll go wherever
01:23:29you want me to train
01:23:30I want to be the trainer
01:23:31and I want you to remember
01:23:32that I'm the boss
01:23:33when we're training
01:23:34you can make
01:23:35what you want
01:23:35you always make
01:23:36the decisions
01:23:36when you get in the ring
01:23:37and you knock people out
01:23:39you're the boss
01:23:39you don't need people
01:23:40telling you're the boss
01:23:41I know you're the boss
01:23:42let me do my job
01:23:43you do your job
01:23:44let's let the manager
01:23:45do his job
01:23:46alright let's let
01:23:47Larry Merchant
01:23:47do his job
01:23:48right now
01:23:49thank you Jim
01:23:50Mike
01:23:51did you ever think
01:23:52you'd like to be
01:23:52in a fight like that
01:23:53you know
01:23:55I don't think particularly
01:23:56but sometimes
01:23:57these things happen
01:23:58in the fighting ring
01:23:59you never know
01:23:59sometimes
01:24:00fighters arrive
01:24:01to the occasion
01:24:03they fight
01:24:04three times
01:24:04or four times
01:24:05better than
01:24:06they're really capable of doing
01:24:07can you believe
01:24:08that Chavez
01:24:08fought that
01:24:09with a bad
01:24:10a very bad rib
01:24:11and he almost called it off
01:24:12no not at all
01:24:13you know
01:24:13most fighters
01:24:14real fighters
01:24:14they're macho
01:24:15you know
01:24:15and they really like
01:24:16to do things like that
01:24:17and live through
01:24:18and if they will
01:24:18I had a broken rib
01:24:19and I fought him
01:24:19on a broken hand
01:24:20alright Mike
01:24:22let's talk about
01:24:23some of the events
01:24:24that have been
01:24:24happening
01:24:25recently
01:24:26is the chapter
01:24:29the marriage chapter
01:24:31in your life
01:24:32over and done with
01:24:33you know
01:24:34this is something
01:24:35that I prefer
01:24:35really not talking about
01:24:36because basically
01:24:37it's personal
01:24:39but as far as
01:24:39my career
01:24:40is just moving on
01:24:41whatever
01:24:41I make mistakes
01:24:43in your life
01:24:43even though
01:24:44there's going to be
01:24:45a hundred million people
01:24:45telling me
01:24:46I told you so
01:24:46I told you so
01:24:47well good
01:24:48you're right
01:24:49I was wrong
01:24:49but listen to this
01:24:51I'm moving on
01:24:52let someone try to
01:24:52catch up with me now
01:24:53could you answer
01:24:56this just one question
01:24:57and I'll
01:24:58get away from it
01:24:59and get the prize fighting
01:25:00your wife has said
01:25:03that she doesn't want
01:25:04any money from you
01:25:05is that true
01:25:07in what's going on
01:25:08behind the scenes now
01:25:09I really
01:25:09I prefer
01:25:10not to even speak
01:25:11on that
01:25:11okay
01:25:12fine I respect that
01:25:13you've been in
01:25:16negotiations
01:25:17all day yesterday
01:25:18all day today
01:25:19with Bill Caton
01:25:20and Don King
01:25:21and others
01:25:23about trying to make
01:25:24some kind
01:25:25of a deal
01:25:26where Don King
01:25:28could be your promoter
01:25:29what is the status
01:25:31of those negotiations
01:25:32now
01:25:33well
01:25:34this is something
01:25:35like I said again
01:25:36which I'd very well
01:25:38rather not talk about
01:25:39but whatever deal
01:25:40I make
01:25:40is advantageous
01:25:41to myself
01:25:42look at this
01:25:44as far as
01:25:45Mike Tyson's
01:25:46concerned
01:25:47I generate
01:25:48all the income
01:25:49from Bill Caton
01:25:50to Don King
01:25:51from everybody
01:25:52the whole thing
01:25:52I generate the income
01:25:54and if
01:25:55no one can obey
01:25:56my wishes
01:25:56things have to happen
01:25:58if Bill Caton
01:26:01has the legal right
01:26:02to
01:26:03o'é¾—
01:26:05they besoin
01:26:06of those
01:26:09who
01:26:09they want
01:26:10to have
01:26:10and
01:26:11what
01:26:12they want
01:26:13to if
01:26:13they want
01:26:13so
01:26:14we want
01:26:15to have
01:26:16some kind
01:26:16of
01:26:17things
01:26:19and
