When is it going to stop being so cold in the northern US?

After the coldest air so far this season hits the Midwest for mid-December, a welcome break from the cold is on the way.

00:07We've been talking about, really since Thanksgiving, multiple shots of Arctic air

00:11into mid-month because of a displacement of the polar vortex, which really is all to say

00:17it's the round after round of cold and snow that we've been dealing with. So guess what?

00:21Mid-December, that's next week. So there's good news and bad news. I'm going to start with the

00:26bad news. This weekend, things get worse before they get better for some of us. We have another

00:31round of snow that we've been talking about, reinforcing shot of cold. And for some of us,

00:36it is the coldest air we've had so far this season. Let's go over the numbers, give you some

00:41examples to really quantify this for you. Minneapolis, I mean, I'm sorry, but you're a

00:47great example. Two below Saturday, a whopping one degree high on Sunday. Yeah, that's your high,

00:51not your low. Somewhere like Green Bay, zero. That's what we get up to Saturday. 14 for Sunday,

00:58so a little bit of improvement. Let's look at the Northeast. Not as drastic. Pittsburgh,

01:0519 degrees on Sunday. Philly, we have a 10 degree drop from Saturday to Sunday. All right,

01:10that's the worst. Let's talk about the better now. After we get through the weekend, it becomes

01:15less cold. Here's the thing. It's going to feel great because of how cold it's been, but it's still

01:21December. It still is going to feel like winter. And even late next week, we could see another shot

01:28of Arctic air, but enjoy the break while you can. Again, let's put some numbers to it. The Ohio Valley,

01:33you're one of the places where it's going to be the coldest air of the season this weekend.

01:36You get to two below is your low on Saturday, but hey, we're back into the 40s for our high. By this

01:41time we get to Wednesday. So light at the end of the tunnel, you just have to get through this weekend.
