While the mid-Atlantic warms back up after record-breaking cold, New England is staying in winterlike conditions.
Transcript
00:00We broke some records this morning because of the cold. Take a look. Allentown, Scranton,
00:04down through two areas in Virginia here. And some of these, even Trenton, New Jersey,
00:09breaking a record from 1907. It was tied back in 1925. All of these in the 20s. That is not
00:16what
00:16we want for late April, is it? It's all about the rebound, though, as we look at the temperature
00:20change the last 24 hours. Unless you are along the coast, then it's not quite the same story.
00:26But 31 degrees warmer compared to 24 hours ago there in Cleveland. What does that mean
00:31for us right now? Well, 71 in Cleveland, 48 for New York and 39 for Portland. Very big
00:38difference from north to south here. That's going to continue as we head into tonight and
00:43tomorrow. But some needed context here. I have our historical averages pulled up because some
00:48of you, yeah, you're going to see more of the snowflakes that we saw on the right hand side
00:51of the screen from Rochester's in the last couple of days. Not quite as heavy of snow as
00:57what we're seeing there, but it's going to work its way in for New England and Maine.
01:02However, most of us are trending at least a few degrees warmer than we typically would
01:06be this time of year when we look at historical averages. Tomorrow, we see more of that contrast,
01:11and it's just going to get worse as the week goes on from New York on north in the 40s
01:15and
01:1550s and then D.C. in the 70s. Buffalo even at 61. I mean, then take a look over at
01:20Minneapolis,
01:2283 tomorrow. Yeah, we'll talk more about them in a minute here, but let's finish off with the
01:27northeast. So some of that rain that's working its way into the Ohio Valley, it's going to be
01:31moving its way into the northeast as we go through the next several hours. This is a little overdone
01:36to start, but it gives you a general idea of what's ahead for the next couple of days.
01:40The point, wintery mix for New England tomorrow morning. Keep that in mind for your morning
01:44commute. More of the scattered rain and thunderstorms in the Ohio Valley tomorrow,
01:48and some of those could be on the strong to severe side with damaging wind and some small
01:52hail. Not anything widespread, but it's just something that you should be aware of.
01:56Then we head into Thursday. Maine gets the brunt of it for the morning, but we're going to start
02:00to see the system that will be bringing severe weather to the central U.S. move its way east,
02:05and we get more rain and thunderstorms into the Ohio Valley and the northeast as we head into the end
02:10of the week and the weekend. So maybe not the picture-perfect weather for the NFL draft in
02:16Pittsburgh, at least a few of the days, but something to plan around. There's that contrast,
02:22though. It just sticks with us, and unfortunately, it's not going anywhere. Even beyond Thursday and
02:28Friday, we're going to get a reinforcing backdoor cold front into New England that is really going to
02:33stick us feeling like early March and everybody else feeling more like summer.
