00:00In Venezuela, the head of state, Nicolás Maduro, pointed out that new goals have been set for 2026 aimed at consolidating the advances of the Bolivarian Revolution and guaranteeing the well-being of the Venezuelan people.
00:21For 16 consecutive days, the air transport strike in Haiti has been exacerbated by the crisis of the insecurity plaguing the population.
00:34And the Gazan Brigades and the Red Cross entered the town of Saitoun in the Gaza Strip to search for the last Israeli body as part of the ceasefire agreement.
00:46Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with Denise.
00:56The Venezuelan head of state Nicolás Maduro pointed out that new goals have been set for 2026 aimed at consolidating the advances of the Bolivarian Revolution and guaranteeing the well-being of the Venezuelan people.
01:19During the balance sheet of the national system of popular government, President Nicolás Maduro mentioned that for the Plan 2026, it must be ensured that the strategic lines are carried out throughout the national territory and that the necessary resources to finance the 5,336 communal circuits.
01:39The first task of the Plan 2026 is to consolidate public works through direct and permanent democracy.
01:46The second line will focus on strengthening the planning and action system of the communes and the plan for the seven transformations.
01:54In turn, the President shared that the third line has as its central objective the strengthening of the self-government system.
02:01In this sense, the head of state specified that this effort will allow the achievement of 42,688 projects and works executed by the people.
02:15Also in Venezuela, on Monday, the International Council of Indigenous Peoples reaffirmed its commitment to defending the sovereignty of the country and the peace as well of the Latin American and Caribbean region.
02:27More than 100 national and international delegations gather in Caracas to show solidarity with the people of Venezuela in the face of war threats from the United States.
02:37This meeting seeks to highlight the work of indigenous communities who remain on alert in the face of interference by foreign governments.
02:46The event is attended by representatives from countries such as St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Colombia and Honduras.
03:09In Venezuela, during the anniversary of Commander Hugo Chavez's last proclamation to the Bolivarian people, President Nicolás Maduro reaffirmed the permanence of his legacy.
03:18The Venezuelan President recalled Commander Chavez's last public televised message broadcast 13 years ago before his trip to Cuba for medical treatment.
03:27December 8th is remembered as the day of loyalty and love in commemoration of this last proclamation to the Bolivarian people.
03:35In this regard, Maduro emphasized that he, like Chavez, will always entrust the people with a defense of the revolution.
03:42In addition, the President stressed that the legacy of Commander Chavez strengthens the Bolivarian project amidst imperialist threats, sanctions and aggression.
03:54The United Socialist Party of Venezuela commemorated on Monday the day of loyalty and love for Commander Hugo Chavez.
04:01The date is commemorated every 8th of December since 2013 to pay tribute to the Bolivarian commander and keep his political legacy of his ideas alive.
04:12During a press conference, the party's General Secretary de Estado Cabello highlighted the special significance of the date
04:18and remembered Chavez's final instructions to vote for Nicolás Maduro if presidential elections were called.
04:24The political leader also referred to the four months of war threats by the United States against the Bolivarian nation
04:31and denounced the Venezuelan right wing's efforts to sell the country's national wealth to the U.S. interests.
04:40On August 8th, if I remember correctly, a new phase of aggression against our people began, of siege of the Venezuelan people, of our territory, of threats with increasing force by those who think they can come and grab the wealth of Venezuela.
05:03It was on August 8th, for months now.
05:17And each month their spokespersons and their groups of jobless opinion makers throughout the world, trying to sow chaos in the minds of Venezuelans, a psychological terrorism against our people.
05:31Psychological terrorism, using all sorts of pressure, lies, fake news, repeting false narratives without any real foundation, and it's already December 8th.
05:57And we must remember that they were saying that we wouldn't make it to August 30th, then September, and then October, and November, and now baby Jesus is coming, and our people remain standing and firm, our people remain united.
06:21And in another part of the press conference, the General Secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela expressed his gratitude for the international support received by the Venezuelan people in the context of the U.S. threats and aggressions.
06:38We thank the peoples of the world for the support they have given our country and our struggle, our struggle of today, our battle of today, today in Venezuela, but tomorrow it could perfectly well be in any other country.
06:55Actually, these are already the battles of other peoples too. Those constant threats.
07:02And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more. We'll be right back and stay with us.
07:12Welcome back to From the South.
07:37Back to From the South. We go to Haiti. For 16 consecutive days, the air transport strike in the country has been exacerbated by the crisis of insecurity plaguing the population.
07:47Since November 23rd, the terminal has suspended domestic and international flights after one of its aircraft was shot at by armed groups.
07:56Residents reported that private helicopters began charging a fortune to replace air routes, while experts believe that the measure responds to business interests taking advantage of the Christmas season.
08:07Airlines are demanding that the state establish security regulations around the airport perimeter and implement appropriate protection strategies.
08:15And we go to Mexico now. The President, Claudia Sheinbaum, led the celebration with the people for the seventh anniversary of the arrival of the Fourth Transformations to the Presidency of the Republic.
08:31The Mexican President highlighted the massive presence of citizens from various parts of the country.
08:36She also pointed out that the fourth transformation is represented as an economic, political, and ethical model, being a different form of government since 2018.
08:48The Mexican Head of State mentioned that the country is on the right track, adding that the government is working to strengthen both public and private investments.
08:57We must not only have confidence in the people of Mexico, and in what we Mexicans are, but also in the economic model, and what the project we represent stands for.
09:16Mexico has done better with this form of government, and, at its core, with what the project represents.
09:23Next year will be better for us because there will be more investment.
09:28We will provide more information, but we are working hard to strengthen public and private investment in various ways, to ensure that there is more growth, and, at the same time, that the distribution of wealth continues.
09:42The ship Manuel Gual of the Bolivarian Alliance for the People of America People's Trade 3D Alba TCP arrived in Cuba this Monday with a new batch of solidarity aid.
10:06The ship arrived at the port of Guilherme Moncada in Santiago de Cuba.
10:13The Executive Secretary of Alba TCP, Rander Peña, explained that this new shipment of aid is intended to support the restoration work being carried out in the country following Hurricane Melissa.
10:24The shipment includes 76 food containers and five backhoes, among other resources, to assist with repairs.
10:31Peña also revealed that the ship Manuel Gual had recently delivered over 12,000 tons of food, medicine, children's toys, and other supplies to Cuba,
10:41further exemplifying the close ties between the two nations.
10:51And Jamaica tackles post-hurricane leptospirosis outbreak as cases on death rise in key parishes.
10:58From Barbados, our correspondent Crystal Hoyer brings us more details.
11:02Jamaica's Ministry of Health is urging increased caution following a continued rise in leptospirosis cases after the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
11:12Flooding has heightened contact with rodent-contaminated water, and officials now confirm 71 suspected probable or confirmed cases.
11:23The Ministry has also verified 12 leptospirosis-related deaths, seven of which are laboratory confirmed.
11:32At a national press briefing, national epidemiologist Dr. Karen Webster Kerr outlined the latest figures
11:39and said transmission rates remain highest in St. James, St. Anne and St. Elizabeth.
11:46Most affected persons are persons 20 to 29 and those 60 years and over.
11:54The deaths are all males, and males predominate with the cases and deaths, particularly in persons 20 to 29, followed by persons 60 years and older.
12:07This is a spread of cases of leptospirosis post-hurricane, as would have been in the table prior.
12:17While health officials warn that flood-impacted communities should stay vigilant, they stress that the outbreak is being actively managed.
12:26Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton says the Ministry is intensely buying water testing, sanitation checks and community outreach in high-risk areas.
12:36We have been managing the leptospirosis outbreak.
12:42We are mindful that that can easily be understood as panic, and we would like to discourage that.
12:50And sometimes the headlines does project a sense of the need to panic.
12:56This is not what our intentions are.
12:58We are also mindful that we are a country that has an obligation to both the local population, but also, importantly, in a big tourism space, we also have an obligation to our visitors and tourism interests.
13:18As recovery from Hurricane Melissa continues, authorities say quick medical attention and limiting exposure to contaminated water remain key to reducing further infections.
13:31Crystal Hoyt, Telesur, Barbados.
13:35And now we go to Asia.
13:36In Japan, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Honshu on Monday, triggering tsunami warnings for several prefectures.
13:45The Japan Meteorological Agency informed that the quake was registered at 11.15 p.m. local time at a depth of 50 kilometers.
13:54In this scenario, the agency issued a tsunami warning for the prefectures of Hokkaido, Amori and Iwate, saying waves as high as 3 meters could hit the northeastern coast.
14:06There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damages.
14:09It is worth highlighting that the Asian nation is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries, with a tremor reportedly occurring at least every five minutes.

14:40Welcome back to From the South.
15:08Welcome back to From the South.
15:10The Kazan Brigade and the Red Cross entered the town of Saitoun in the Gaza Strip to search for the last Israeli body as part of the ceasefire agreement.
15:18Amid the search, Bassem Naim, a member of Hamas Political Bureau, said he was ready to discuss freezing or storing weapons with guarantees that they would not be used as part of the ceasefire agreement with Israel.
15:30For their part, Israeli media assured that U.S. President Donald Trump recommended that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promote diplomacy in his relations with the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria.
15:42The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that at least 320 of its workers were killed in 23 countries during 2025.
15:56The organization stated that 98% of the humanitarian workers killed were local employees operating in vulnerable communities of the countries in conflict.
16:06In this regard, the organization warned that the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel are the most dangerous in the world for the organization with 120 deaths in 2025.
16:18The United Nations highlighted that attacks against humanitarian personnel are violating the national law and that states are responsible to guarantee their protection.
16:32Now we move on to the topics.
16:34Sudan's paramilitary rapid support forces, RSF, claim Monday it has seized control of the strategic hegelic oil field in the Kordofan province.
16:44The announcement was later supported by a statement issued by the government's Sudanese Armed Forces confirming it had withdrawn from the area.
16:53The RSF push into the giant Kordofan region offers a potential route towards the Sudanese capital of Khartoum from which the government forces had pushed its paramilitary rival earlier this year.
17:07The oil region's takeover comes within the context of a two and a half year conflict between the two warring forces.
17:19And in this context, the growing wave of insecurity and the intensification of attacks by armed groups forced a new massive displacement.
17:26Hundreds of Sudanese people have been forced to flee the capital of South Kordofan due to deteriorating security conditions exacerbating previous waves of displacement in neighboring regions.
17:38The city of Khartoum has been under siege by armed groups for months as well as being the target of repeated attacks.
17:45According to United Nations estimates, more than 41,000 people fled in November 2025 in response to the increasing violence in the north and south of the country.
17:56Under United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF warned that the Democratic Republic of the Congo is facing the worst cholera outbreak in 25 years with more than 1,800 deaths since the beginning of 2025.
18:15The organization reported that since the beginning of the year, 64,427 cases have been reported with 14,818 cases in minors and 340 deaths, noting that the epidemic has affected 17 of the country's 26 provinces.
18:34Unsafe sanitation continues to be the country's main problem, as only 43% of the population has access to basic water supply services, which is the lowest rate in Africa, and only 15% have access to basic sanitation services.
18:50At the end of last November, the World Health Organization reported that the highest number of cholera cases worldwide were registered in the Eastern Mediterranean region, followed by the regions of Africa, Southeast Asia,
19:03Southeast Asia, America, and the Western Pacific.
19:14And also, at least four civilians died and nine were injured in Cambodia Monday during the armed conflict with Thailand.
19:21According to the Cambodian Defense Ministry, Thai troops bombed residential areas in the north of the country, forcing the evacuation of over 1,000 families.
19:32On the other hand, Thailand authorities affirmed that the clashes began in its southeastern province of Ubunrachathani, where Cambodian units killed one soldier and injured several others on its part.
19:45The Thai Air Force reportedly attacked targets in the Chong Ang Ma Pass, claiming they were military support centers used by Cambodia to attack Thai positions.
19:55The two nations have been involved in a century-old border dispute, which escalated last July 24th.
20:02After a brief ceasefire in October, Thailand suspended the truce after two of its soldiers were injured by a landmine explosion near the border.
20:10And also, the government of India is closely monitoring relations between Thailand and Cambodia as well, and urges both nations to keep the dialogue as well and the peace.
20:35In other contexts as well, India and foreign ministry spokesman Randir Jaiswal said that his country's government hopes that both sides will act with restraint and put an end to the fighting in order to return to the path of dialogue and peace as well.
20:52It should be noted that Jaiswal's statements come after the escalation of hostilities in the border areas between Thailand and Cambodia over the weekend when the parties exchanged accusations of violating ceasefire.
