01:21Hi, my name is Marco Glandia and I'm from Amsterdam. I'm mainly a director of TV commercials and other things, but I'm also a magician.
01:32When I was young, I really knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to be a storyteller, create new worlds, basically direct things, but I didn't know that back then. I started with skateboard videos and 25 years later I'm shooting commercials with big talent.
01:48I like to play with images. I like to experiment with sounds. What I do on film, I also do it in real life. I spend my summers doing interactive theater installations with a big group of friends.
02:00And that's where I learned to use my magic in a more theatrical, cinematic way. I'm telling stories, I'm traveling the world, I'm doing what I wanted to do when I was 12. And I'm still sort of 12 in my mind.
02:12Penn and Teller have created this act, especially for you. It contains everything that I love to do. I hope you guys love it as well.

02:27In a world not far away from ours, a unique man was born. Born with the head of a bison, he had to deal with the cruelty and misunderstanding from those around him.
02:38So he would often go where he felt at home, in nature. There is where he developed his magical powers.
02:45Today, he is here among us to tell his story. Dear audience, please welcome, Jones Jones Labrie.
02:56Born on an apple orchard during the full moon, Jones had a strong connection with nature.
03:04He has the ability to take simple elements and transform them into extraordinary creations.
03:08When Jones Jones is surrounded by nature, his powers are the strongest.
03:18Jones learned that if you put love into something as small as an apple seed,
03:25it will grow and grow until the love becomes visible.
03:46One day, he received an invitation from a certain ten in Peller, a gentleman that owned a circus and were really eager to meet him.
03:59So he went to visit them to see their acts. And out of nowhere, she fell from the sky.
04:05Brooke, the amazing trapeze artist. She saw the broken boy in him. He saw her natural inner beauty.
04:11Welcome to the family.
04:13Without hesitation, he signed the contract the man offered him.
04:24Finally, respected for his abilities and close to the woman he fell in love with.
04:34Well, this is how Jones imagined it would be.
04:37But in reality, it was torture. They were barely fed and worked long hours.
04:46Performers were locked in their caravans at night.
04:53Jones was not hired to perform. His contract said that he had to make enough money for them to retire.
04:57All right, bison boy. Here's a nickel. And I'll go and make a lot of money.
05:08Jones started to betray his powers to make them enough money.
05:11He wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. Take Brooke with him.
05:25Being disconnected with nature made him lose his powers.
05:43Hey, put that apple down. That's more than enough money. Just bring us a suitcase and take all the performers with you. We don't need them anymore.
06:01Being united with Brooke after all this time gave Jones his power back. With their love combined, it became even stronger than before.

07:16Does being a magician make you a better director, or does being a director make you a better

07:22I think both, actually.
07:23I think it's about telling stories, it's about provoking emotions or creating emotions
07:28in people, which is things that I find interesting, and it's both in directing and both in magic.
07:33Either way, there's something to say for it.

10:02My first time on Fool Us, I did Lego magic, trying to be unique.
10:08We love the routine, and we think we have a pretty good idea how you did it.

10:47Because you see, most of the time when magicians say, I'm going to teach you how a trick is
10:52done, they don't do that.
10:53They do not do that around here.

11:05So first thing first, some magicians would blow to deck of cards that have been secretly
11:10prepared in a very specific order to help them find selections.

11:19So cutting only once is not enough to make sure the deck is not stuck in my favor.
11:25If you want to cut, you can do what we call multiple cuts like that.

11:31The best way is what we call the refill shuffle, where you just refill the cards.

11:39But if I have, for instance, 52 aces of spade, I could cut and shuffle all day.

24:13So we're familiar with all of that, which is rather unfortunate for you because we know a lot of the technology on this.

25:22Hello, I'm Kiona and I'm from London.
25:25Make it rain!
25:27Last year when I was on Fool Us, I had an incredible experience.
25:30But it was also really intimidating because I've never performed in front of an audience so big.
25:35You've got the two ladders there, which is really nice, and you get all the different colour papers.
25:40I like bright colours and I have a lot of funky, colourful clothes.
25:44Colour is also great for misdirection.
25:46In magic, I use it to help me fool people.
25:49When I'm not performing magic, I help teach at a special educational needs school.
25:54The idea for tonight's trick came to me one day when I was working with the children.
25:58It sort of just clicked.
26:00So I am really excited to be back on the Fool Us stage.
26:04Hopefully I won't be as nervous as last time.
26:07It's time to see whether I've learnt enough to fool Penn and Teller.
26:11Make her way to our stage from across the pond, is Kiona.
26:25Hello. So as you know from my introduction, I help teach kids at school that are special educational needs.
26:31needs. Now, no matter what their struggles or difficulties are, I feel inspired by them
26:36every single day. And that, that truly is magical. But because some of the students
26:43struggle to recognize numbers and colors, I created a game. A game where the students
26:47will hide numbered blocks, just like these, underneath colored cups, just like these ones.
26:52And I attempt to match all of their choices, but without looking. So it's a little bit
26:58like mind reading. The kids absolutely love it. Hopefully you will too. But the thing
27:04is, I've never taken on a fully grown adult before. So Brooke, would you be my incredible
27:10helper tonight, please? I would love to. Thank you. It's nice to see you again.
27:17Good to see you too. Welcome. Please could you stand behind the table on the opposite side
27:20of the screen from me. Okay. Thank you. Okay. Now that we're on opposite sides of the screen,
27:28Brooke can't see anything that I'm doing and I can't see anything that Brooke's doing. Brooke,
27:33can you hear me well? Yes. Can you see me well? No. Okay, good. It's working well. In front
27:39of you, as you can see, there are five positions, one to five. Yes. Please could you take five
27:43numbered blocks and place them in a completely random order on the positions in front of you.
27:48And then once you've done that, please could you take five colored cups and then place those
27:52on top. Please could you do that now? Yes. Thank you. Now, whilst Brooke does that, I would
27:58like to point out we have the exact same set up. Five positions, one to five, six numbered
28:05blocks and six colored cups. Brooke, have you finished? Almost. I'm putting the cups on top
28:12of my numbers, right? I'm finished. Okay. Perfect. Thank you. Now, before we carry on, please
28:20could you take the leftover cup, the one that's not been used, and the leftover numbered cube
28:26that's not being used and just place them out of sight under the table away. Okay. I've done
28:31that. Now, I could claim I'm going to use my psychic powers, but in truth, I'm going to use
28:37logic, the power of the obvious. And obviously, I'm going to get this right. So, uh, okay, Brooke,
28:48we're probably going to do this, and then Brooke will do this, and then, like, um, so maybe
28:55you should do this, and then, and then this, and then this. Okay. Yeah. That seems about
29:01right. Now for the hardest part. Matching the colored cup with the numbered cube.
29:07But I'm going to attempt to do this using associative engineering, known in its neurological circles
29:13by its scientific term...guessing. Okay. So, Brooke's probably done a pink, and then it's just
29:23green, and then, yeah. Okay. Cool. Brooke. Yeah. On position number one, what color cup do you have? Pink. Okay, I also have the pink, and Brooke, could you please lift up the pink cup, place it behind the numbered block so that everyone can see the number, and let everyone know what number you have?

32:02Wow, so are you gonna stick with it? Yeah, definitely? I hope to how did you get interested in working with special needs children?
32:08Yeah, so for a casting website I started talking to people and they
32:14Said that they like quite a lot of actors because they're usually quite quick thinking on their feet
32:19So they can go in and help and also when I do the work
32:22It's so rewarding seeing children that really struggle come through and there are some schools
32:28I've worked at and then a year later
32:30I've come back and some students that are like five six that couldn't talk now can talk and they're starting to say a few words and it's so
32:37And they're like hello, and it's like really exciting. So you bring them so much joy. Yeah
32:41It's really nice. Well, Kiona your trick was amazing, but let's see if you fooled the boys. Are we ready?

32:49Just a great great performance your style on stage is just so wonderful and tying it in to what you obviously have such a strong passion for
32:59It's just really really beautifully speak so well on stage. It's just very very wonderful
33:04What's hard about a trick like this is that the way it's done is so new that we don't even have code words for it
33:14We don't even have cutesy little things to say, you know if you had something from 200 years ago
33:20We can say all sorts of stuff to tell you those kinds of things, you know
33:23We can get the word crimp and shell and everything else in there
33:26But this stuff we don't have code words for it's fairly new and you can seal that so well by having props that are just
33:36Simple and nothing could possibly be gimmicked about them and the truth is
33:41Nothing is gimmicked about them. Those are just blocks. Those are just cups
33:47But you've got all sorts of other stuff going on
33:50The blocks and the cups are completely innocent, but everything else including you is not
33:59At least that's what we think we think that there's not as much innocence in you or the things around as there are in the cups in the blocks
34:08That's what we think do they know how you did your magic. Yes, definitely. They're very small
