00:00From the Peck and Teller Theater at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas.
00:27Here's our host, Brooke Farris!
00:43Welcome to Fool Us, a show hosted by the peanut butter and jelly of magic.
00:48That's because one is salty and the other is sweet.
00:51And I'm gonna let you figure out who's who.
00:54And of course, we've got four magicians who will find themselves in the sticky situation of trying to fool our delectable duo.
01:01So let's bring them out right now, Penn and Teller!
01:06Penn and Teller award a Fool Us trophy and a spot in their world-famous Vegas show to anyone who fools them.
01:15Let's find out if our first magician can earn that prize.
01:21I'm Trigg Watson, and I'm a tech lizard.
01:24So here's the problem. We all live in a world that seems magical.
01:28You tap a button on your phone, and a car shows up to take you anywhere.
01:31Tap on another app, and a pizza is being delivered at your door.
01:34But when everyone is desensitized to these technological miracles, how can a magician make the world feel like magic again?
01:41Luckily, we magicians can cheat.
01:43I don't have to follow the rules of reality.
01:45I just have to create the illusion that I do.
01:57I combine magic and technology to experience what may not be possible now but will be possible ten years from now.
02:06and technology to experience what may not be possible now,
02:10but will be possible 10 years from now.
02:13Penn & Teller, this is magic for the future.
02:21Please welcome the futuristic mind of Trig Watson.
02:28Hello everyone, hi Penn & Teller.
02:30A lot has changed since I was on this stage
02:33with a giant iPhone almost a decade ago.
02:35And since then, technology has allowed us all
02:38to do the impossible.
02:40And even though all this technology can make us feel
02:44separate from each other, it can also bring us closer together.
02:48And that is what I intend to explore tonight.
02:51Thanks to the magic of video call,
02:52I've invited one of my best friends, Kristen Lambert,
02:54to join us all the way from her home in Los Angeles.
03:00Hello.
03:01Hey, what's up Trigolet?
03:03Hey there. Oh, wait, is this, is this better?
03:05No, you're, it's great.
03:06Oh wait, oh wait, are you on stage, right?
03:08Yeah, we're on stage in the Penn & Teller Theatre.
03:10Oh gosh, I was just sitting here crafting,
03:13contemplating the absurdity of life, as one does.
03:16It's quite a table you've got over there.
03:19Yeah, I'm kind of curating my altar of prized possessions.
03:22I'm working on this palmistry hand,
03:24and then I've got this wooden skull,
03:26and my personal favorite, sassy, the scorpion.
03:29I love it.
03:31You know, Penn, you strike me as someone who also likes eccentric things.
03:34What's one of your most unique possessions?
03:37I have a unsealed, unpeeled beetle butcher cover
03:41that Teller gave me, the Beatles as butchers.
03:44Oh my gosh, stop it. I want that.
03:47I have come so close to getting several flea circus posters several times over,
03:52and that is so incredibly special.
03:55You two can nerd out later.
03:56Teller, I would love to bring you into this conversation.
03:59I'd love to know about one of your most prized possessions.
04:02I'd like you to take a few seconds and draw a picture
04:04of something that you own that is special to you.
04:07This could be a souvenir, a magic prop, even a gift from a friend.
04:11All that's important is that it's simple to draw
04:13and has some sort of emotional significance.
04:16Oh, speaking of emotional significance,
04:18check out this photo of Trigg and myself
04:21as teenagers at a magician's conference.
04:24Oh my gosh, we were so cool.
04:26Oh, you think that's cool?
04:27Check out young Trigg on a unicycle in a second vest.
04:31Oh no.
04:33That's not to be outdone, though, by the infamous T-Rex Pops.
04:38Thanks. Classic.
04:39Tell you what, I want to put one of these on my table here.
04:43Pen, blind choice, from your left, one, two, or three.
04:48I'll take two.
04:50This one?
04:51Yeah.
04:52Good choice.
04:54Love the T-Rex pose.
04:55Classic T-Rex pose.
04:56I approve.
04:57Yeah, but Trigg, I'm looking at this and I'm unhappy.
05:02I think there's too much going on.
05:03Pen, would you please weigh in as a fellow odd object lover?
05:07Should I keep the skull on the table
05:09or should I keep the scorpion?
05:11Keep the skull.
05:13Keep the skull.
05:14All right.
05:16Teller, are you done with your drawing almost?
05:20May I?
05:20Wow, thank you.
05:22A howdy doody marionette.
05:25We have an amazing drawing.
05:28Now, Teller, you have drawn quite an incredible picture here.
05:32Kristen, you should really take a look at this.
05:34I want to see.
05:36What if having a virtual conversation with someone could mean sharing more than just words?
05:41Like sharing meaningful objects despite the distance.
05:45I'd like to give this to you, Kristen.
05:48Wait, what?
05:49Right here.
06:05Did you get it?
06:07Oh my gosh, yes, I did.
06:10Yes.
06:11This is incredible.
06:12Incredible.
06:13Kristen, you should put that on your wall.
06:19Oh my gosh, yes, I should.
06:22Oh, wow.
06:23This is really, really fantastic.
06:27Teller, I'm going to treasure this for...
06:29Oh.
06:31Uh-oh.
06:32And Teller, your Wi-Fi sucks.
06:36But actually, this leaves me with a really cool souvenir.
06:42Because my most prized possessions, they aren't physical things, they're memories.
06:55Memories like performing on stage with a dear friend in Las Vegas.
07:02Because this isn't a video call.
07:06It's a poster.
07:11A moment...
07:13A moment...
07:14Of a memory I will never forget.
07:18Of a memory I will never forget.
07:21Woo!
07:22Woo!
07:23Woo!
07:24Woo!
07:25Woo!
07:26Trey Glottson, everyone.
07:28Woo!
07:29Woo!
07:30Woo!
07:31Woo!
07:32Woo!
07:33Woo!
07:34Boy, has magic come a long way.
07:37To try to invent the future of magic, do you ever turn to science fiction?
07:41Sure.
07:42You know, I think, interestingly, a lot of technology that's been developed that we enjoy today started
07:46out as the idea probably of a movie writer, a screenwriter.
07:50That we were watching an old movie.
07:51Exactly.
07:52You know, because people just really want to, you know, be able to live in that fantasy world in real life.
07:56I mean, is there an underlining story here that you're hoping the audience experiences?
08:01Well, I know that tech has a tendency to separate us.
08:04It can be very easily isolating, and I try to use all this tech in my show to bring people together,
08:10to remind us that we're all still human, and we're all here, and how special it is that we get to be astonished together.
08:16Well, Tregg, let's find out if your magic future includes a Fool Us trophy.
08:20Hey, sounds good.
08:21Are you ready?
08:22Oh, Tregg, and Kristen, who of course we know well and have worked with.
08:27What a wonderful, wonderful thing.
08:30I mean, one of the things we're doing now in magic, and I say we so I can get credit for your work,
08:37is blurring that line between technology and magic.
08:41The technology becomes the magic wand, and it was a beautiful demonstration of that.
08:48We all sit in our homes and do miracles of video calls all the time.
08:55And just to push that technology a little further than is actually possible right now,
09:02puts you with that level of wonder that turns it into magic.
09:06And it was really beautiful that way.
09:09But we are familiar with the important parts of the technology that you use that was perhaps a little older than the clear screen TV.
09:21So although we loved it, and it made a really important philosophical point about the future of magic,
09:28we don't think you fooled us.
09:31Oh, come on!
09:33So, Tregg, it sounds to me like Penn and Teller figured out your trick.
09:37They did indeed.
09:38Do you agree?
09:39Yes.
09:40We sure enjoyed that.
09:41You had us so puzzled.
09:42Great job.
09:43Thank you so much.
09:45You've our best to appreciate it.
09:47Tregg Watson, everyone.
09:48Thank you so much.
09:50We've got a lot more magic waiting for you when we come back.
09:53Welcome back to Fool Us, where seeing is disbelieving.
10:10Meet the next magician messing with Penn and Teller.
10:15My name is Daniel Harrell. I'm from New York.
10:18People think that a mentalist can just look at someone and immediately know everything about them.
10:23For a decade, that's how I would perform my act.
10:25I would amaze people with knowing stuff about them that I had no way of knowing.
10:30But I felt my action just be about me and what I can do.
10:33I want to take the spotlight off of me and put it on the participant.
10:37Let them do the mind reading and show how amazing they are.
10:39And once we swapped roles, I realized I found this unique way to connect with audiences all around the world.
10:45Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
10:47I have to put my trust in the participant to actually pull this off, which is exciting and fun for me as well.
10:56Penn, Teller, tonight I'm going to make a complete stranger feel what it's like to read minds.
11:02They're going to be surprised.
11:03I hope you're going to be as well.
11:05Here's Big Apple baffler Daniel Harrell.
11:22I've been performing mentalism for many years, and you know what all shows have in common?
11:27After every show, someone will always come up to me and tell me,
11:32I wish I could read minds as well.
11:36So tonight, that's exactly what we're going to do.
11:39Tonight, one of you is going to experience what it's like to read minds.
11:45Sir.
11:46Yeah.
11:47Over there.
11:48How you doing?
11:49Hi.
11:50What's your name?
11:51My name's Jeremy.
11:52Jeremy, be honest.
11:54Are you an amateur magician?
11:55Not at all.
11:56Not at all.
11:57Are you an apprentice mind reader?
11:59No.
12:00No.
12:01Jeremy, did you and I meet up before this show and set something up?
12:05Never.
12:06Never.
12:07Okay.
12:08So is it fair to say that if Jeremy was to come up on stage right now and read someone's mind,
12:12that would be impossible, right?
12:14Yes.
12:15So let's see if we can do the impossible.
12:18Jeremy.
12:19Jeremy, everybody.
12:20Hi, brother.
12:21You're going to be amazing.
12:22Okay.
12:23Can you send me right over here?
12:24Yes, sir.
12:25Very good.
12:26Now, Jeremy, I know you're not used to reading minds.
12:33Yes.
12:34So we're going to make sure that you have a fantastic mind to read.
12:36Okay.
12:37Okay?
12:38Brooke, I have this pad over here and if you had to guess,
12:43what would you say was in the pad?
12:47Drawings?
12:48Amazing, ladies and gentlemen.
12:49Mind reading.
12:50I have no idea how Brooke just knew that.
12:53I want to show you, Jeremy.
12:55There are a lot of very simple drawings here that I drew.
12:57There's a house.
12:58There's a tree.
12:59There's a jello kitty, which is a non-copyrighted version of another kitty.
13:02You may have heard of.
13:03In a second, Brooke is going to choose one drawing and you're going to guess which one it is.
13:08Okay.
13:09Okay?
13:10And I'm going to guide you through the process.
13:11All right.
13:12But you see how suddenly everybody are very suspicious of you.
13:16Everybody are looking at you and they're thinking, well, this Jeremy guy, he looks nice.
13:22But how can we know he's not going to get a glimpse somehow?
13:25So just for now, so they'll know you're not cheating, I'm going to have you turn and face away from Brooke.
13:31Okay?
13:32Thank you very much.
13:34Now, Brooke, I want to show you the same drawings as well.
13:37Okay.
13:38You can see a lot of very simple drawings, but you see how suddenly everybody are looking at you.
13:44They're suspicious.
13:45They're thinking, well, then I guess maybe everybody go for the same drawing always.
13:49Right.
13:50Okay?
13:51Maybe everybody go for the stick figure because that's like an easy one to recognize.
13:54True.
13:55Just so they'll know this is completely random, you're going to choose one randomly.
14:01Okay.
14:02Can you go like this with your right hand, please?
14:04I'm going to give you the pad.
14:05Okay.
14:06Place your left hand on top.
14:07Place your thumb at the back somewhere in the middle.
14:09And in a second, I'm going to count to three.
14:12I want you to open it to one drawing.
14:14One, two, three.
14:15Did you recognize what it was supposed to be?
14:17Yes.
14:18Close the pad back up.
14:19I'll take it from you.
14:20Okay.
14:21Thank you very much.
14:22You're welcome.
14:23Now, Jeremy, you can turn back to us.
14:24Be honest.
14:25Did you see the drawing Brooke went from?
14:28No.
14:29Okay.
14:30Very good.
14:31You are going to read Brooke's mind.
14:33Here's how we're going to do this.
14:35In a second, Brooke, I want you to imagine that there's a power line going from your mind to the tip of my finger.
14:41Okay.
14:42I will then connect that cable into Jeremy's mind.
14:46When I do that, I want you to start saying in your mind over and over and over again what that drawing is.
14:52Don't say anything out loud.
14:53Don't move your lips or anything.
14:55Okay.
14:56Jeremy, when that happens, when I connect that imaginary cable to your mind, you're going to close your eyes and use your fingers to plug your ears.
15:02Okay.
15:03We're doing this so everybody will know you're completely isolated from the environment.
15:07Okay.
15:08Okay.
15:09The rest of you, when this happens, when Jeremy closes his eyes and plugs his ears, I want you to start to give us a drum roll.
15:14Like this.
15:15I wish I could tell you that there is some sort of telepathic explanation as to why it helps, but to be honest, it's just about suspense.
15:23Okay.
15:24Jeremy, take a deep breath in.
15:28Look at Brooke.
15:30Brooke, imagine that imaginary cable going from your mind to the tip of my finger, connecting to Jeremy's mind.
15:36Jeremy, close your eyes, plug your ears.
15:38Everybody start giving us that drum roll right now.
15:40Brooke, imagine you can transmit that thought into Jeremy's mind.
15:44Now, Jeremy, just give me a yes or no with your head.
15:46Can you hear Brooke's voice in your mind?
15:49Yes.
15:50Yes.
15:51Do you understand what she's saying?
15:53Just say yes or no?
15:54Yes.
15:55Do you think you'll be able to draw it?
15:57Yes.
15:58Yes.
15:59Okay.
16:00Open your eyes.
16:01Open your eyes.
16:02Look at Brooke.
16:03She was sitting there the entire time.
16:04Stand over here, Jeremy.
16:05Brooke, can you please join us?
16:06Everybody give Brooke a big hand.
16:07Look if you can stand over here.
16:12Thank you very, very much.
16:14My pleasure.
16:15Jeremy, I'm going to give you this.
16:16Okay.
16:17I'm going to give you this.
16:18Okay.
16:19Don't start drawing anything yet.
16:21Same.
16:22Please don't start drawing anything yet.
16:24In a second, I'll ask that you'll draw your drawings.
16:27Please make them as big and as clear as you can.
16:31Okay.
16:32Ready?
16:33I think so.
16:34One, two, three.
16:37Start drawing.
16:38For the rest of you, I'm going to recap what just happened here.
16:40Jeremy was chosen from the audience.
16:42He testified that he's not an amateur mind reader.
16:45Brooke chose a random drawing.
16:47Then, Jeremy closed his eyes, plugged his ears, and said he could hear Brooke's voice in his mind telling him what that drawing is.
16:53Now, they are both standing here drawing their drawings.
16:56In other words, they did this entire thing by themselves.
17:00So, if this doesn't work, it's their fault, not mine.
17:03Okay?
17:04Please remember that.
17:05Ready?
17:06I'll take your pen from you.
17:08And I'll take your pen from you.
17:09And on the count of three, please turn over your drawings and show us what you got.
17:13Ready?
17:14One, two, three.
17:15Turn them over.
17:16You have a belt right here.
17:17You have a belt right here.
17:18No.
17:19You're not reading right, right?
17:20Wow.
17:21Thank you so much, isn't it?
17:22Daniel Herrera.
17:23I love this kind of magic so much.
17:25I was really concentrating.
17:26I was really working so hard to get this right for you.
17:40Were you reading my mind also?
17:41No, I was completely out of the loop.
17:43Is your mind as blown as mine is?
17:45I'm in shock.
17:46I'm like shaking.
17:47Me too.
17:48And by the way, I had nothing to do with this either other than just sending the message.
17:53It's amazing.
17:54Is it hard to keep your magic secrets and do you even try?
18:03I find that people always want to know how these things done.
18:06Of course we do.
18:08I had this show once.
18:10About ten minutes before the show, this kid comes up to me and says,
18:14Excuse me, you're the mentalist, right?
18:16Yes.
18:17Do you mind if after the show I'll try and figure out everything and tell everyone?
18:21Were you like that kid when you were eight years old?
18:24Definitely.
18:25I was very skeptical to magic as a kid.
18:27All right, Daniel.
18:28Let's go to the boys and see if you've kept your magic secrets from them.
18:32Are we ready?
18:33Yep.
18:34Are you ready?
18:35All right.
18:36Good luck, Daniel.
18:37Woo!
18:38Hey, Daniel.
18:39That's a great final image of the two of them drawing pictures at the same time and holding
18:44them up.
18:45And we got to see that.
18:47And it's just the audience loved it.
18:49It's a great, great trick.
18:51Did a wonderful, wonderful job.
18:53You know, I had a dream last night.
18:57You might think it was a nightmare, but it was a dream.
19:01And I was on a train.
19:03I don't know if it was a train to hell or from hell, but everybody else on the train was
19:08a skeleton.
19:09And I don't know where we were, Daniel.
19:11You're from Israel originally, right?
19:12Yes.
19:13It certainly was not Israel.
19:15Because the guy next to you was named Sven.
19:17And I guess that's a Scandinavian name of some sort.
19:20So it was a Scandinavian hell train.
19:23And I mean everybody.
19:25Everybody was just a skeleton.
19:27They were all made out of bones.
19:29I mean there was a bone engineer in the dining car.
19:34There was a bone bartender.
19:36There was a bone conductor.
19:38They were all just skeletons.
19:40And Sven and I were sitting there in our little mini pad watching this whole thing go by.
19:46And I woke up in a cold sweat.
19:49But I was somehow happy.
19:51Because I knew that today, maybe today, even though we'd never been told your name,
19:56we would see someone just like you doing a wonderful act like this.
20:02Does that dream mean anything to you, Daniel?
20:06I mean that's the craziest speech I've ever heard, Penn.
20:08Does that?
20:09I mean, hang on.
20:11Did he dream the secrets to your trick?
20:15Uh, well, what can I say?
20:17Um, you didn't fool them, Jeremy.
20:19I'm sorry.
20:20It doesn't seem like that.
20:21I try.
20:22Thank you so much for having me.
20:24Sounds like you didn't fool them, but you sure fooled us.
20:26Thank you, Daniel Harrell.
20:28Jeremy.
20:33Oh, more magicians, more Penn & Teller, and more fun when Fool Us returns.
20:39Hello, and welcome back.
20:54You are just in time for our next magician.
20:59My name is Danny Urbanus, and I'm from the Netherlands.
21:01My specialty is card magic, and I practice for thousands of hours.
21:05When I do grocery shopping, I practice.
21:07When I walk around the town, I practice.
21:10Basically, I practice everywhere.
21:12Doing magic when you're walking is not easy, because your whole body's moving,
21:16and you actually do need to pay attention to traffic and other kind of stuff.
21:20So when you actually stand still, like when I'm on stage, it's way easier.
21:24When you approach someone with a deck of cards, you're a magician because you have a deck
21:28of cards in your hand.
21:29People immediately expect magic.
21:31So that skepticism kicks in.
21:33Is it a trick deck?
21:34What are the rules?
21:35But if you surprise them with magic, with things they know and understand,
21:39shoelaces, straws, and rubber bands is more powerful.
21:43So Penn & Teller, I'm gonna show you some magic from a different perspective,
21:47and I think you will be amazed.
21:56For our next magic trick, let's welcome Danny Urbanus.
22:03Thank you, Brooke.
22:05I'm delighted to be here with all of you and everyone tuning in from home.
22:09I'm standing here in front of two very knowledgeable magicians, Penn & Teller.
22:14I find magic in the simplest things, like a rubber band and a pen.
22:23So the thing with knowledge about magic is that it changes your perception of it.
22:50What's amazing to all of you, seeing by the reaction, is actually a day-to-day job for me.
22:56It all comes down to the point of view.
23:00And I don't mean that this is an optical illusion,
23:04because even though the bands look like they're not linked,
23:07they actually are linked.
23:11But it only will last a moment.
23:15So let me give you an example.
23:23Teller, would you please join me on stage?
23:33That's it.
23:34You can sit right here on the chair.
23:39Are you comfortable?
23:40So I'm going to show you the same thing, but from my perspective.
23:50So two rubber bands.
23:52Yes.
23:54No, no, no, no.
23:55Let me stay here.
23:58No, no, no, no.
23:59Let me stay here.
24:00We have more.
24:04Can you hold your right hand like this?
24:05Yes.
24:06And make fists.
24:07Put your thumb on and in the лиners.
24:08I'm going to stretch the bands.
24:09I've got all this.
24:10You have najt radiator.
24:11OK.
24:12But they still放置.
24:14No.
24:15No, no, no.
24:16It's just down here.
24:17We have more.
24:18We can hold your right hand like this.
24:19Yes.
24:20No, no, no, no.
24:21It's just here.
24:22We have more.
24:24Can you hold your right hand like this?
24:26Yes.
24:31I'll make fists.
24:32Put your thumb on a motion like this?
24:36stretch the bands between my hands and I want you to pinch the bottom string and
24:39don't let go until I say so. Yes.
24:48Yes. I'm gonna go over your head again so I'm gonna show everyone here as well.
24:55I'm gonna go over your head and you can hold the bottom string. And to truly
25:02experience it from my point of view. Just go one up. And we go one up more.
25:13All the way up. And you can let go.
25:18Okay hold the middle strings. Yes. Hold these two. Yes. Now with your other hand
25:27hold it up like here. Now you can hold it here.
25:32Yes. Thank you. So to truly experience it from my point of view,
25:37you can rub with your hand like this. Just give it a little blow.
25:41And you can let go slowly.
25:45Thank you very much for being on the stage. Everybody set up.
25:51Thank you very much for being on the stage. Everybody set up.
26:06Danny Urbanax everyone. Hello Danny. Hello.
26:10That was beautiful. I just love seeing Teller's face so puzzled.
26:18You literally did your magic right under his nose. Yes.
26:24He got probably the best seat in the house.
26:25Yes. Are you always ready to perform anytime, anywhere?
26:31I almost have always rubber bands to wrap my wrist. And yeah, I try always to be ready
26:37to show someone if they're asking. Do you have a big social media presence?
26:41I don't post a lot. It's more I really like the interaction. The live interaction.
26:47The live interaction. I can appreciate that. That's what I think that magic is created for.
26:51Well, it's not a stretch to say that that was an amazing trick, but let's see if it earned
26:56you a full us trophy. Are you ready? Yes. Penn and Teller. Danny, rubber bands. That's all you brought us.
27:04Yes. A few rubber bands. The other big prop you had, your big stage illusion prop was a pen.
27:13And then you had rubber bands. This is an act that what tractor trailers to carry this thing around.
27:19It's just beautiful. You know, we do this thing on our show where we'll see people
27:26that do something that looks a little bit off to us, a little bit wonky. We see the move,
27:32and then we go through the whole act and kind of pretend we didn't. What I loved about this act
27:37is we didn't see anything unnatural or uncomfortable at all. It was just magic. Furthermore,
27:45I got interested in rubber band magic. I saw someone do it. I loved it. And my teenager,
27:50Moxie and I sat down with a book for a few afternoons and we learned stuff, which none of
27:56which I remember. And on top of that, there's stuff you were doing that we never saw anywhere.
28:04There's stuff you invented in this, right? Yes. The whole act is completely fine. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
28:10Because even the stuff that I tried to learn and failed was not in your act. So I got to say, Danny,
28:18it's rubber bands, but we've been fooled by a chicken for . So I'm not humiliated by this at all.
28:27I am proud to say that was a perfect magic routine. And you fooled us.
28:34Thank you. Thank you.
28:50Congratulations. Well done. Thank you.
28:54Well, Penn and Teller just handed a Fool Us trophy to another fantastic magician. Will they hand out
29:05another? We'll find out when Fool Us returns.
29:09Welcome back. So far, we've added one Fooler to the Fool Us Hall of Fame. Let's find out if our next
29:27magician can join that list. I'm John Mobley from Indianapolis. You know, the American heartland.
29:37The first time I came on Fool Us, I performed as Johnny Magic, a comedy character who wasn't real at all.
29:45He was a character I was hiding behind. And when I watched Johnny on Fool Us, it felt like he wasn't
29:52even me. And that's when I decided to perform as myself, as John Mobley. And that was terrifying,
30:01but it was worth it. You know, the world opened up for me. I was funnier,
30:05more comfortable, and a lot more original. I thought I had to be, you know, me plus or me and.
30:14And it is an incredible feeling when you find out that me is enough.
30:23Put your hands together for the magic of John Mobley.
30:26Tricks, illusions, sleight of hand. Guys, these are the ways that magicians attempt to fool you.
30:37But tonight, I'm gonna do my best to fool you and be the first magician to do that with literal
30:44magic. But of course, with the help of Brooke. Brooke, would you mind joining me on stage?
30:51Hi, John. How are you?
30:52You're doing great. You look amazing.
30:53Thank you. Welcome.
30:54Let's dive right into it.
30:56Every magician uses a brand new deck of cards. So the first thing we need to do, of course,
31:02is remove the seal.
31:05Well done. Thanks. Let's continue.
31:08Next, we need to roll up our sleeves. Just like this. That's for you.
31:14And right down there would be great.
31:16Are you sure?
31:17Yeah.
31:17Okay. You never know when you need a snack, right?
31:20I've never done that before, but okay.
31:22Okay. Now we need to shuffle. I'm hoping you can show me the moves on this one. Ready?
31:27And one and two. One and two.
31:30I've done this before.
31:31Yeah. We do our best. All right.
31:34Okay.
31:36Now we need to, you know, cut the cards.
31:38Okay. Oh.
31:42Wow.
31:43And, uh, yeah, tell you what. Why don't we get these, uh, cards and, uh, fan them here.
31:53This will be good.
31:57This really is literal magic, guys.
32:03All right. Let's, uh, let's get a few closer to you here.
32:05Okay.
32:06And, uh, you can, uh, pick a card.
32:08Any card?
32:08Oh, wait. I should clarify. We are going to, uh, pick.
32:14Okay. Well, of course.
32:16A card, um, this could be dangerous. I'll help you.
32:19Just, uh, let me know. Um, you can say stop. We have, uh, this one or this here, here.
32:24Stop.
32:25Where was it?
32:26That one.
32:28There we got it.
32:30All right. Oh. Okay.
32:32Are you okay with that one?
32:37Yes.
32:37Go ahead and, if you don't mind.
32:39Okay.
32:40Great.
32:41Okay. And, uh, let's see what's next.
32:42Okay.
32:44Ah. Go ahead and, uh, name your card.
32:47Jack of Clubs.
32:48No, no, no. I'm sorry. You need to, uh, name your card. It could be Sam, Jackson.
32:53Oh, give it a name.
32:54Bartholomew. Yeah. Write it right here. Yeah.
32:57Okay.
32:57Frankie, Dean, Amanda, Brent.
33:02Do you want to know what it is?
33:03Um, yeah, I can see it. I've seen this trick before. It's fine.
33:09Do you mind showing the audience your card? Because, uh, we're about to hide it.
33:12We're about to lose it in the deck here.
33:16Go ahead and lay it right on there.
33:17Okay.
33:17Perfect. Now, this is the tricky part, okay?
33:22We've got to mix the cards. Your card could be literally anywhere in here.
33:27True.
33:28Anywhere. So, uh, tell you what, why don't we...
33:34I don't care. Hang on to those if you don't mind.
33:35Those are going to go on the top. We're going to start with these on the bottom here.
33:38Okay.
33:45All right, ready? Right on top.
33:45Okay.
33:46Go. And, uh, here we go.
33:50You can add a few more.
33:52I like the surprise. Here we go.
33:54Okay.
33:54Okay.
33:54Almost got them all.
33:59You feel good about that?
34:00I do.
34:00Awesome.
34:00Do you feel good about it?
34:04Okay.
34:05Okay.
34:09Let's go.
34:10Okay.
34:11Ah.
34:12This is the moment.
34:14Fool, Penn and Teller.
34:19For the first time, what did you name your card?
34:22Uh, John.
34:23John.
34:23John?
34:24Yes.
34:29Every card, Brooke, will be blended.
34:31Only John will survive.
34:39There we go.
34:49I don't think John survived.
35:01Very possible.
35:06Magic.
35:12Wow.
35:13Woo.
35:16Now it's time for the big reveal.
35:19Brooke, I told you John would be safe.
35:21You did.
35:22John is safe.
35:25Really?
35:34Is that your card?
35:36That is my card.
35:37John Mobley, everyone.
35:46And I guess we know that a blender really can blend anything.
35:50Yeah, it really can.
35:52What's the best piece of advice that anyone has ever given you in the world of magic?
35:56Wow.
35:57Never give up.
36:00Never give up.
36:01I think it's something we want to teach our kids.
36:03And something I've always wanted to do since getting into magic is go beyond the magic store.
36:08Go beyond the things you can buy and create magic.
36:11And that's a big risk.
36:13Yeah.
36:13And I'm all for it.
36:15How important is laughter to a magician?
36:18Laughter is amazing.
36:19I love to laugh.
36:20And we don't have enough of that at all.
36:21And with three kids, three, five, and eight, they keep us laughing.
36:25All right, John.
36:26Let's see if your blend of comedy and magic fooled Penn and Teller.
36:29All right, let's do it.
36:30Are you ready?
36:30Good luck, John.
36:31Boys?
36:32Hey, John, what a great premise.
36:34You know, Harpo Marx does the cut the cards with the cleaver thing.
36:38And they were doing it in the movies.
36:40And it still didn't look as good as yours.
36:42Wow.
36:43It looked great in the mixing bowl.
36:46And it looked great in the blender.
36:48And then getting it around your neck was just astonishing.
36:51I'm now going to talk in code, John.
36:53Try to stay with me.
36:55I was imagining Humphrey Bogart in The Big Sleep.
36:57And instead of Humphrey Bogart, it's actually Jon Stewart.
37:00And Gilbert Gottfried comes in.
37:02And there's the Maltese Falcon.
37:03And the whole soundtrack is done by the Grateful Dead.
37:07And it's not in black and white.
37:09It's in technicolor with surround sound like earthquake.
37:14I was envisioning all of that.
37:15And I think somewhere in the code, I told you what we saw.
37:19And I don't think you fooled us.
37:21John, does he know how you did your trick?
37:23Based on all that mumbo jumbo?
37:26You know, these guys are literally the best.
37:29And this has been amazing.
37:30So thank you.
37:32Thank you so much.
37:33I really enjoyed that.
37:35Great to meet you.
37:36Thanks, everybody.
37:37Thanks.
37:38John Mobley, everyone.
37:41Penn and Teller will show us how it's done as they take the stage for tonight's finale.
37:46So stay close.
37:57Welcome back.
38:01Welcome back.
38:02I am really excited for this next trick because Penn and Teller said they have a gift for me.
38:07So give it up for Penn and Teller.
38:11We sure do.
38:12This is our second season working with you and you have been terrific.
38:16So we went out and purchased a little something.
38:19The two of us went to a very fancy mall together.
38:21I like the box.
38:22We're walking out there and we talked and looked and shopped and found the perfect gift.
38:27Oh, yeah, the perfect gift.
38:29I mean, sometimes you're a little nervous about a gift, but this one we feel very, very confident in.
38:34Look at this.
38:35Oh, that is so pretty.
38:37We have gotten you a safety pin.
38:39You got me this safety pin?
38:40Yeah, we got you a safety pin.
38:43Isn't that a beautiful safety pin?
38:44It is.
38:45Look how shiny it is.
38:47That's a damn shiny safety pin.
38:49I love it.
38:50I really love it.
38:52You don't have to necessarily wear it all the time, but it's a good safety pin to have.
38:57And it also is good for testing fabric.
39:00You can tell the thread count of things with that safety pin.
39:04For instance, this is a very high quality pocket handkerchief.
39:09I have only the best.
39:10Of course.
39:10I have a person that goes out and buys this stuff for me.
39:14It's not ordered on Amazon.
39:15I have a personal shopper.
39:17I didn't know that about you.
39:17Yeah, it finds this thing for me.
39:19And now Tella's showing you.
39:20It goes right through them.
39:21This is the remarkable thing.
39:23This will be your safety pin.
39:24Watch how that just pulls right through.
39:27Pulls right through naturally.
39:31Well, I'll tell you, there's one shopper who is getting their ass fired.
39:36I'm glad we didn't use these pants for that, guys.
39:38People would like that, but this is, this, I could, look at that.
39:42My shopper is being fired.
39:45That is, that's really.
39:46It's fine.
39:50You won't even be able to notice.
39:52That's why I was folded like that.
39:53It looks good.
39:54It's fine.
39:54Now see, if you want to try higher quality.
39:57So this is a higher quality handkerchief, right?
40:00So you can go through four layers with this.
40:04Watch.
40:05Tella's going to take that and put that through, just like that.
40:08See?
40:08Goes right through there.
40:10You can see the pin going through.
40:11I do.
40:12And then it's hooked up.
40:13Now watch this.
40:14Because this is high quality, like this was supposed to be.
40:17OK.
40:18It goes right through, just like this.
40:21But we're testing it.
40:23It's important.
40:23See that?
40:24Wow.
40:25Isn't that beautiful?
40:25So this is a magic.
40:27It's a magic safety pin.
40:28Nice.
40:29That's why.
40:29Can you even rip it?
40:30No, there's no damage whatsoever, unlike to this,
40:32because of my shopper.
40:34The personal shopper is really not good.
40:37Hold one end of this.
40:38OK.
40:38Hold it tightly.
40:39Hold it firmly.
40:40Hold that right.
40:41I got it.
40:41Now watch.
40:42Suppose you put your safety pin somewhere in your clothing.
40:45OK.
40:45And you think it's not quite the right place.
40:48Why bother opening it and then moving it?
40:51You can just do this.
40:52Point to a place on there you'd like to see.
40:53Anywhere?
40:53Yeah.
40:54Right here.
40:54Right there.
40:55Is that possible?
40:55See, no need to open it.
40:56It slides right over there.
40:59And there it is.
41:00And as you can see, the high quality handkerchief
41:04is not in any way hurt.
41:06Now we'll go through a single layer.
41:09That's what we tried with this one.
41:10OK.
41:11Because of my terrible personal shopper.
41:13Watch this.
41:14And listen.
41:16Listen, the sound is terrific.
41:17It shows the quality of this whole thing.
41:19Listen.
41:22And Brooke, two seasons, our love for you,
41:26a shiny safety pin.
41:28Teller.
41:28You should have this, too.
41:29Oh, that.
41:30Really?
41:31Yeah.
41:32A little bit of sneeze on it.
41:33Just keep your hand off that side.
41:35Thank you, Ben.
41:36And you know something else, Brooke?
41:37While we're at it, you can also have the scarf.
41:39Thank you, boys.
41:40We bought that.
41:41Wow.
41:42So I got two nice gifts and a kind of gross one.
41:45Thanks, guys.
41:46And thanks to all of you for joining us tonight.
41:48We will see you next time on Fool Us.
