02:21Here we are at Vandermeer Speedway in Morrison, Colorado.
02:23Track is a quarter mile long nestled in the scenic foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
02:28Because of the track's high altitude, the air is thinner.
02:31Engines depend on the oxygen in the air to mix with fuel for combustion.
02:35So thinner air means power management can be challenging at this track.
02:39Vandermeer is famous for its ability to host a whopping 23,500 race fans in its grandstands.
02:46Opened by John Vandermeer Sr. in 1958 to provide a safe place for people to learn about cars and race them off the street.
02:53This track has been a staple in the racing community.
02:56After 65 years, the track is closing at the end of this racing season.
03:00It's an honor to be a part of this great track's legacy.
03:04We have a really good field out here.
03:07We have eight locals.
03:09One of them is going to represent the great state of Colorado.

03:15These drivers are some of the fastest around, and then they're here to prove it as they aim to be the last racer standing earning them $5,000.
03:25And whoever pulls that off will race a street outlaw for the chance at another five grand.
03:29These locals don't know who that outlaw will be yet, but we do.

04:56so we just made this truck what it is and just put more power to it so we go faster.

08:44ready. My name is Alexa Zerotti. I am from Slayton, Texas, and I drive a 69 Camaro. This car has twin
08:50turbos. My dad bought my car when he was 17. He has had it for 38 years, and it's been mine since
08:57I turned a year old. Definitely my dream car. It's making well over 1,200 horsepower already, and
09:03we're not near the limit. When I'm up on the line and I'm holding the trans brake, it is just the
09:07best feeling, and I know that as soon as I let go of the button, the car is going to do what I want
09:12to do. Smaller turbos than typical, right? They're a decent size for the stock bottom end. Okay,
09:17understood. All right. Builds a boost quick? It does, actually, but I use Nitrous to spool it.
09:23Nitrous Express is a big part of the program. How long have you been racing? Because you can speak
09:28the language. I can tell that you're very passionate about this. Oh, yes. This is my one true love.
09:34Alexis is more of a veteran than she appears to be. I think she has a lot of experience behind

10:21championships and, you know, decided to let me start driving when I was 16. And, you know, we've done,
10:26I think I've taken the reins pretty well. What motor is that? It's a big black Chevy. Okay. You don't have to

10:37looking at the stickers for headlights, it's a street car. It is a street car. Right? I'll drive
10:41it to the gas station right now. Yeah? Yeah, let's go. But once, let me see. It'll make it there and
10:46back. You ain't gonna make it. It will. There's a lot of race car going on over here. We're gonna call

12:17on it. So I was like, it's yellow. It was a green. And I saw him launch. So I just let
12:20off and I went. All I can tell is that we're side by side. And next thing I know, like, I'm
12:24just barely in front of him. And I'm like, is this real life? Is this really happening?
12:29Winning that means the world to me. That's first round of locals only, the biggest race I've ever
12:33been in. So I, I'm very excited. And even if I go home second round, I will just be glad
12:38I was out here and I made it around. I can't believe I made it past round one. Doesn't feel
12:42real. I just drove around him. Like, I probably beat him by half a fender.

13:04My name's Dylan Christensen. I have a 73 Nova and I'm 26 years old. I work for a custom
13:10car shop, Perks Automotive. We build anything from show cars to complete and total custom
13:15work. This car is an iron block LS with a turbocharger. All the motor work, me and my
13:21friends did ourselves. We didn't have the money to hire it out. I grew up watching the
13:25street outlaws ever since it came on Discovery Channel. And I said, one day I'm going to be
13:30on that show. I'm going to race with these guys. And now here we are.
13:34How much no prep experience do you have?
13:37This year. This is my first year as a driver.

14:18I have a 97 Chevy S10. First time I ran this track was high school drags when I was 16.
14:24I've been doing it ever since. Best part about racing is letting go of the button. It's exciting.
14:31It's exhilarating. It's an adrenaline rush. And it's awesome.
14:35What inspired this build?
14:37To have a truck, first off, just to be something different and then try to compete with those
14:44types of cars.

18:50I didn't realize how much I loved racing until I actually got behind the seat of this car.

19:04the 80s, when you had hood ornaments, right, we always turned them this way for extra aerodynamics.
