McFarlane DC Classics Gold Label Harley Quinn Review | Is She Worth Picking Up?

00:14quinn was in quite the need of a brand new figure here's a look at the brand new mcfarland toys
00:18dc multiverse the gold label collection dc classics harley quinn
00:28when she first met the joker dr harleen quinzel was a psychiatrist at arkham asylum
00:33instead of treating her patient she fell in love with him and became the prankster partner in crime
00:37known as harley quinn although mentally unhinged harley is highly intelligent she's skilled gymnast
00:42and her agility makes her an adapt fighter like the joker she uses a variety of weaponized gag props
00:48and her chaos creating crimes sorry you can't see dr quinzel right now she's out of her mind
00:53before that we get a closer look at the brand new harley quinn from dc classics and mcfarland toys
00:57let's take the tape measure and see how tall the figure is going to stand i grabbed this online i
01:02haven't had any chance to find this anywhere else but i got it for a pretty good price and even
01:06though
01:06really it's going to be using a lot of body parts from the previous harley quinn we're going to discuss
01:10that in a second let's get things first underway with the tape measuring um if i'm looking first
01:16at this correctly uh the figure of harley stands about six and a quarter inches if i flip that on
01:21the other side then you're looking at the figure being about 16 centimeters tall don't go in expecting
01:25that this mischief maker is using a brand new mold in fact actually this harley quinn is using the exact
01:30same mold as the first wave harley quinn everything really from the collar down it's just this figure
01:35here she gets though just an updated head sculpt that's not necessarily a bad thing i mean really there
01:41wasn't anything really wrong with the original harley quinn that was really my go-to for a while
01:44because we never had another comic harley it was just that her head was just a little too big a
01:49little too cartoonier this one i think fix it fixes that a little bit more some of her accessories
01:54though will also be carried over from the previous figure we'll kind of get down to looking at that
01:58more in a moment bringing in some of the other harley quinn's also as well now most of the harley
02:02quinn's have really only been tied to movies we got the bird of prey harley quinn we got the suicide
02:06squad harley quinn so there's nothing really new for that let's bring in of course mr j now when you're
02:13looking at the size of harley quinn she is going to be a little on the taller side i mean
02:17even just
02:17to move this one out of the way and put the regular joker next to her now this would be
02:20the joker that
02:21speaking of girlfriends they happen to have come included with punchline boy this gets real awkward
02:26real fast yeah unfortunately though harley is going to be a little bit too tall when it comes to
02:31comparing her obviously with mr j let's bring in also batman here as well who else can we also bring
02:37maybe some characters that she's also not necessarily clashed with but probably worked
02:41with here's what also the figure looks like with the classics poison ivy and the classics batgirl
02:46being the gf of the joker she's probably quite familiar with picking a card while picking a card
02:50for this release of harley quinn mcfarland toys went with this image it's also the same image by the
02:55way that's on the back of the package art by the way and just to bring in the original harley

03:00it was an okay card i think that this one goes with a little bit more of an interesting stuff

03:04bruce as well the hyena of course there's also the mallet there as well it's interesting also that
03:09this image why is it so interesting it's interesting that this image happens to have that mallet because
03:15that's more of a mallet that's closer to the original harley quinn the back of the cards showing
03:20you guys right now they are in fact actually uh they are the same they are the same it's just
03:25what
03:25throws things off a little bit it's just that the original harley quinn had much harder to read
03:30fine print this one actually has the same read up although it just looks a little bit bigger
03:34just because again like the font is a little bit bigger same cards though well not so much the same
03:40from the front you get the idea what's similar though is that i guess that really isn't technically
03:45similar the figure of harley quinn does come with the same familiar display stand different dc logo
03:51branded with only just a thumb down below there's walking distance from that a peg that can plug into
03:56either one of her feet move it off to the side here's the things that are the same from previous
04:01harley first of all she comes included with the little flag gun it's the original flag gun
04:07the bangs are a little bit different i actually think that the bang on the original harley quinn looks
04:12a little bit better myself i mean it looks like really the handles the handles are actually a
04:17little bit different of a brown old harley quinn new harley quinn yeah you know what i mean i'm
04:23looking really at both of these i think that that's the better uh gun little gag gun i still
04:29don't think the gag gun is all that great i don't know if maybe making it longer would have worked

04:33little bit better maybe even making you know i know what it is i know what it is the nozzle

04:37the gun needed to be a little bit longer it just it's too short how would really this part of

04:43post actually be able to compact inside unless it just accordinates inside yeah that's what really
04:49it is that's what's throwing me off is just that the capsule the actual barrel of the gun i should
04:54say really should have been a little bit longer does fit into her hands there's really no additional
04:58hands that come include with the figure but she it's fine really to hold the gun as it is
05:03just sort of get the handle in there there we go now harley quinn does have her gag gun
05:08what she does also as well is her mallet now can we just go back to the card here as
05:13well i mean
05:13not that really this should be the thing that we would want to look at the details and say well
05:17that's not right that's not right this is the mallet that we get right this is the original
05:22mallet for harley quinn now you could decide for yourself which is the better of the two
05:29i gotta still say that i feel like i like the original accessories just a little bit more i like
05:33the wooden handle the wooden look though to the mallet i like also that it's got a bullseye this one
05:38technically does also have a bullseye too and that i like this one has a smiling face this one does

05:43have a smiling face you know again like they are exactly the same so if you happen to already have
05:48that other harlequin which is just right over there you could decide for yourself which one would be
05:53the better one to be displayed with the figure i'm leaning honestly more to this than i am to this
05:57i mean it looks good it does have the checkerboard effect of the red with the white of course it's
06:02got also some triangles there sorry those aren't triangles those are diamonds diamonds diamonds
06:07everywhere there's diamonds we've got now a black handle a red taped off end which again the
06:12original one would have just only had a wooden handle taped off bottom and white yeah you know
06:17i like this one more than i like this one here and again this can also go into her hand
06:21as well
06:21doesn't necessarily have to be this hand it could be really technically the other hand
06:26the thing about it though is that she's still using the small hands so you're going to have a harder
06:31time
06:32i find to get things like the mallet which has an insanely large handle it's very difficult to try to
06:39get
06:39that actually into her hand and even then when she's holding it it looks really like the mallet
06:43belongs to a different character or a different figure look at just the size of that compared to
06:48those tiny little hands for now at least let's put that off to the side get a closer look at

06:53quinn now to that i'm going to bring back in the original harley quinn wave one harley boy we've been
06:59through times haven't we dc multiverse line it's sad really that we're coming near the close of the
07:052000 well 2027 i think is really where they're going to be axing the line and moving solely over
07:10to mattel but i think we've had generally a really good run looking at the details really between the
07:15two figures the bodies are exactly the same the colors are the same the bodies the heads are the
07:18only thing that's really different they have technically also placed the the harley quinn diamonds
07:24in different places if you really look at harley quinn on this side she doesn't have anything on this
07:28leg she doesn't have she has it on this leg though on this side she has now actually three
07:34diamonds instead of the two from before and even also on this side see how she had much smaller
07:40ones here if i get my blasted thumb out of the way she had smaller ones here on the front

07:44she's got them now placed on the side instead i think like the details now handled on this body i

07:51more where they've actually put the little again little diamonds a little what would you call them
07:55little harley quinn symbols i think i actually like it a little bit more on the newer figure than i

08:00the original one if though you don't like it yeah so easily i'm sure you could probably pop the head
08:05off this one swap it out with this head instead and you would just use this body instead of this

08:11if you look at really the two faces i i would hope i wouldn't have to talk you guys into
08:17the idea that
08:18this one looks a little bit more modern i never really liked the fact that the face the original face
08:23was so large now obviously it's not so much paired to the batman animated series it's supposed to be
08:29connected more to the comic but still though that was too large of a harley quinn face i think now
08:34the
08:34new face works a whole lot better one figure i really did want to find at the time of doing
08:39this
08:39review was the original dc universe classics the ones from mattel long time ago because we got a
08:44harley quinn there why i want to also bring that in is not just to show you guys where we've
08:48come
08:48when it comes to harley quinn figures but also too this figure has sort of the same problem as the
08:54original mattel in that they don't feel a need to really paint the face solely white there was always
09:00this weird discoloration mattel did this they painted kind of the face more in blue mcfarlane
09:06reasons unknown decided not to paint a paint a face solely in like even if it was just this white
09:12color would be fine but they've added almost like a gray wash to it what are we doing here with
09:18harley quinn that a just a simple white face wasn't enough it throws a little bit out of the
09:24figure because i i would have just liked really if harley quinn just had a white face and she doesn't
09:28have that adding again a little bit of the gray almost kind of really makes her face look a little
09:33dirty the mask and the face does look pretty i like that they've also given her a smile as well
09:37but
09:37just what's jarring to me is this off colored white just a solid white would have been fine now these
09:44are
09:44all additional pieces that have gone over top of her torso i mean if you wanted to and have them
09:49a
09:49little bit more looser you could probably pry these a little bit more from the torso uh the colors look
09:54good for harley quinn again she's going to be using the exact same feet same hands same ruffled colors
10:00nothing really at all is changed even like the feet are exactly the same for harley quinn's articulation
10:06if you're familiar with the original first wave harley you're going to be familiar with this one as well
10:10head's going to be on a ball joint so it allows the head to rotate all the way around follow

10:15with me as the head goes up and down back and forth as well the top of the torso is
10:20also going
10:20to be on a ball joint my worry really was because they are using the same mold that the things
10:25the
10:25joints and stuff would be really more looser on the figure top of the torso doesn't seem to be the
10:29case she has also a ball joint torso piece like a torso ball joint but it doesn't seem as easy

10:37move as really the top does the arms rotate all the way around you can also bring these arms up
10:42they seem also a lot tighter than the other previous figure as well she has a bicep swivel
10:48same as before double hinges same as before hands rotate all the way around yeah same as before
10:56for the legs they do split out forward and back they go no way she's really there a little bit

11:00a swivel just a little tiny bit of a swivel there at the top of the thigh now this is
11:04the only part that
11:05i've noticed has been loose on the new figure it's her knees this knee isn't so bad this knee here
11:12though is loose and it really shouldn't be so loose getting out of the packaging ankle moves up
11:17and down ankle also moves back and forth as well and she does also have much like before the toe
11:21articulation too if you are worried though about harley quinn standing better you can also make use
11:27of a display stand where's that display stand it's right over here so of course you can also attach
11:32the bottom of the figure's feet is it a better looking harley quinn based at least on the first
11:36wave one yes yes it is i mean again i can't really expect the mcfarland toys especially getting near the
11:42end of this line would they have designed a body from scratch let's get her on this play stand i'm

11:47going to fight worrying about getting her fall over here there we go get her on this play stand i

11:53wouldn't again expect really that they would have redesigned harley quinn from like from the legs up i
11:59mean you know the original harley quinn was perfectly fine i don't think necessarily that
12:03she needed anything really done to her other than a brand new head sculpt the new head sculpt is
12:08definitely a vast improvement on the original one but like the rest of the body is fine too
12:12the only one thing that i really don't like about harley quinn something again rewinding just a bit
12:18something i said earlier it's just the face the face looks good i don't like really that the color
12:23isn't bright white of course when it comes to also displaying her if you want to display her with now
12:27this is my go-to joker generally because i really like the head sculpt on that one but again she
12:32works fairly well for most jokers again the sizing may vary though depending on which mr j you have
12:38her paired with going in and getting harley quinn i expected to have some same z's as the previous one
12:43and in fact yes sort of just changing a brand new head sculpt out everything else about the figure the
12:48body and even like the accessories are all the same the one same z's though that i wish that they
12:53had updated actually technically really too the gag gun is still i think was way too short of a nozzle
12:59a barrel a barrel somebody right now who knows a little bit more about guns is frantically telling
13:04me down below i don't need to really get into a big debate with somebody who knows a whole lot
13:08about
13:08guns but one thing also too that i feel like the figure really that did need an advanced upgrade for
13:13was the size of the handle for the mallet the handles even back then were way too big and even
13:19now
13:19using the same bodies again if they're going to make the handles so big on these weapons make at
13:24least the hands a little bit bigger so she doesn't have as hard of a time to hold it i
13:28think also that
13:29the mallet i wouldn't want to say is a downgrade it's just really again pick whatever color you
13:34think is better suited for harley quinn i prefer really the wooden handle myself but because i now
13:39have two harley quins essentially with those same accessories i have plans really to be displaying this
13:45figure with the previous harley quinn's mallet because i like that look myself she's already
13:50got enough red and black on her anyways i don't feel like she also needed to have it in her
13:54mallet
13:54all in all though it is an upgrade on a figure considering really that so much of this figure
14:00were like 80 percent would that be a good safe assumed percentage of how much from the previous
14:06harley quinn went into the new one but still though if a company like mcfarland toys can get mileage
14:11out of a mold and it means that as we leave this line i think they're probably not going to
14:16be
14:16spending as much time and effort and a budget to produce figures brand new figures from scratch
14:21they're going to try to get their most out of their molds if anything they're probably going to just be
14:25reusing a new mold maybe changing the page just a little bit but if it means though that we get
14:30better figures in the outcome like the harley quinn here this is a reason to i feel to retire the
14:36previous harley quinn because the one that we're getting now from mcfarland toys is the better of the two

14:49inventory do you feel like maybe they could have spent a bit of a more of the budget updating the
14:54accessories that came include with the figure i don't expect necessarily smiling fish that could
14:59really come with mr j but i do think though that yeah if you're already going to have that money's

15:04spent that would have been set aside for a brand new mold the mold i think the budget definitely
