While parts of Virginia on north may experience wintry weather from Dec. 4-5, it's expected to be a major rain event for most of the Southeast.
Transcript
00:00Really, the southern U.S., we're going to start off in the southeast, where some of you started out the morning with freezing rain,
00:06a very messy, dangerous commute, really, that many of you went through, and these are the top freezing rain reports.
00:12Now, one thing to note here, these are measured all tenths of an inch, really, but with freezing rain, I mean, one-tenth of an inch causes a lot of problems.
00:20Anytime we have measurable freezing rain, that is very slick roads, very dangerous conditions overall.
00:26Now, as we look ahead to tomorrow, you'll notice a lot of sunshine icons.
00:31We get a break overall.
00:33Temperatures 45 in Nashville.
00:35We're already starting to cool down, getting that cooler air all the way down to the south, but more is to come.
00:42Taking a look at your overnight lows for Wednesday, well, we are trending below our historical averages overall.
00:48Even, I mean, take a look at Tampa.
00:50We're in the ballpark.
00:5158 is where we should be this time of year.
00:53Instead, we're at 55.
00:54Nashville, a few degrees below your historical average of 35.
00:57You're at 32 overall.
00:59So, not too bad, but still a little chillier than we should be at this point in the year.
01:04While tomorrow is our break from the rain, it does return.
01:08So, let's go ahead and play out future radar here.
01:10I clicked one too far.
01:11Let's go back to it.
01:13And while we don't see anything that will populate Wednesday, the next system, it's not too far off.
01:19And it's actually going to have some big implications for the weekend, even.
01:22There it is.
01:23And one thing to note as well, Tennessee, you see the pink, the blue, the wintry mix.
01:27We could see more freezing rain, more sleet, or just some snowflakes mixed in with the rain.
01:31But keep in mind, that's a messy situation anytime that we have that mix of types of precipitation overall.
01:38Continuing to play this out through the day Thursday, we just get more and more rain.
01:42This time, the focus, though, really is mostly the Gulf Coast.
01:44Just places like Atlanta, Charlotte, you'll get some rainfall, but the heaviest of the rain is going to be further south.
01:50We're not talking about widespread flash flooding concerns like what we were talking about with this last round of rain.
01:55But just know some heavier rainfall, especially with the ground pretty saturated.
01:59You could see a little bit of ponding, a little bit of flash flooding, not out of the question.
02:03I mentioned it has big implications for the weekend.
02:05This is what I was talking about.
02:06So it starts Thursday night through Friday night.
02:09We head into the weekend, and further to the north is where we're really watching, especially this area on purple.
02:13The rain, snow, ice, exactly what I just said about the freezing rain, the sleet, any kind of mix of precipitation.
02:19It is a dangerous, messy situation oftentimes.
02:22Overall, taking a look at Nashville, well, we're going to stay below our historical average.
02:26We should be in the mid-50s this time of year as far as our highs.
02:29We get close on Saturday.
02:31We're back to 51.
02:32But overall, I mean, you probably have the winter jacket out at the very least, and you're going to need it for the next couple of days, at least the next five days overall.
02:41Now, it's going to be even colder to the north, so maybe that'll help you think, okay, we don't have it too bad compared to, you know, sub-zero lows that we're seeing up into the northern plains and the Great Lakes.
