00:00It's the pivotal moment in any investigation.
00:02Stay where you are!
00:04If you get it wrong, then it's game over.
00:07Get on your ground now!
00:12Police officer with a taser!
00:14Taser, taser, taser!
00:20Don't do something!
00:30Everything they're doing is on body warm video.
00:36Police!
00:37Everything they're doing would be examined by defence lawyers.
00:42They can't make any mistakes.
00:46I haven't done anything wrong!
01:00Outside a block of flats on the edge of town,
01:09preparations for an arrest that will rock the world of show business.
01:15The element of surprise is very important to the police because,
01:19essentially, if they knock on the door and then the person realises who they are,
01:24they might make efforts to conceal things or hide things they might have been doing at the time.
01:28And that was very much the case here.
01:32The target, a 36-year-old man,
01:35suspected of planning to kidnap one of Britain's most famous celebrities.
01:41They obviously believed that this threat was imminent.
01:43That's probably why they used the knock on the door with the big red key,
01:47rather than a knock on the door with a hand.
01:52Ladies! Stay where you are!
01:53You're not touching anything!
01:54Close your eyes!
01:56What's going on?
01:58What the hell is going on?
02:00Listen to what my colleague is going to say.
02:02Right, you're under arrest on suspicion of conspiracy to kill you, yeah?
02:05You do not have a problem with anything.
02:07What is going on?
02:08What are you talking about?
02:09You're investing in something with standalone and anything you do so much.
02:13They wanted an element of surprise.
02:15And I think you can see that on him.
02:17When they actually go in and arrest him, he is shocked.
02:21So, at the moment, you're under arrest for conspiracy to kill you.
02:24Who?
02:25Polly Willoughby.
02:26I think those ones are warm.
02:28I'm not going to lie.
02:28She's a fantasy of mine.
02:30I mean, she's a fantasy of a lot of girls, isn't she?
02:32T-shirt!
02:43Poli Willoughby was arguably the queen of daytime television, so she was very much forefront on
02:44arguably the queen of daytime television so she was very much forefront on this
02:49morning which is a huge daytime tv show she'd been doing it for 14 years and i
02:56would say that her image was very much that of girl next door which of course
03:00gives her an accessibility to viewers and the nature of daytime television is
03:06that you get viewers that watch it all the time and they start to sort of feel
03:09that you're sort of part of their family one viewer is determined to take that familiarity
03:19to a new and terrifying level
03:24gavin plum was a severely obese man in his 30s from harlow in essex he was previously featured on
03:32various documentaries about weight loss for the bbc i only really got my front door to put a bin
03:38back in the uh being just outside the flat and that's every few days when i'm in pain the pain
03:46gets so bad that i physically it's crippling it is physically crippling because he's spending so
03:54much time at home he's exposed to a lot of daytime television holly willoughby is essentially she has
04:00been the face of daytime tv for many many years and most days she's on his screen and he develops this
04:07obsession with her he gets really really into wanting to meet her and then subject her to horrific forms of violence
04:18more than 4 000 miles away a police officer specializing in online investigations dials into
04:32an internet chat room and spots something suspicious we don't know his real name he used the pseudonym
04:41david nelson he is an officer based in minnesota in the usa as part of a unit which specializes in
04:47covert operations online looking into potential groups that are organizing acts of violence acts
04:54of terrorism human trafficking sexual violence all of that sort of thing the real dark underbelly of
05:00the internet the undercover officer was online and seen some pictures posted of holly willoughby
05:06um and there was a quite an alarming caption saying like the one that i want
05:09he really thought he was going to get her and i believe that's what caught the officer's eye and
05:17then of course he's investigated a little bit further and and pursued what he had in front of him
05:28the internet chat room is titled abduct lovers posting pictures of holly the user calling himself big
05:35bear 34 1987 real name gavin plum now being secretly pursued by undercover officer david nelson
05:49and at this point uh david nelson he's not aware of who holly willoughby is he's based in america he
05:53doesn't really have much exposure to the uk television scene so he's seeing all these photos and then he's
05:59seeing plum's messages about her about what he wants to do to her that officer acted very quickly
06:07i mean he's from the states i don't even know if he knew who holly was but he absolutely knew
06:13that what he was seeing online was very serious
06:18i think for nelson he's probably seen a relatively young very attractive blonde lady you know she's
06:24beautiful isn't she don't forget this cop will also be naturally inquisitive he's a police officer
06:30we're all we're all keen to learn more and want to know what people are doing so i think he's probably
06:34seen the pictures seen the caption and felt the threat was imminent and that he was going to act on it
06:40encouraged by david nelson's interest gavin plum reveals more plum even shares a video of his equipment
06:57spread out so the chloroform the cable ties the handcuffs all that sort of thing
07:01hands and ankle shackles ring and ball gag three lots of rope metal cable ties two sets of handcuffs
07:13he'd bought 400 cable ties he'd gone into detail about the address of where she lived he was talking
07:19about moving holly once she was unconscious i think that's probably the point you thought hang on
07:23this guy's a bit serious growing more convinced the plot is real undercover officer nelson raises the
07:36stakes to gain the trust of gavin plum nelson claims that he's really interested to come over to the uk
07:45from the usa to help him out and he even goes as far as presenting plum with a picture of a ticket a
07:52flight ticket to the uk it's not a real one but it's enough to convince plum that he's serious about
07:58coming over here to which plum gets very excited and the message plum sends back once he's had all
08:03this is it's actually happening and it goes from there obviously he's engaged with him a little bit
08:11which he would do you'd tickle it and see what's happening he pushed it a little bit further
08:15he learns big bear's real name is gavin plum and here's his plan to render holly and her husband
08:24unconscious then kidnap the tv star from her home in west london he's talking about logistics that it's
08:32a night where they're going to take her to how they're going to subdue her and it's all what he's
08:37talking about it's horrific unknown to gavin plum he's being recorded right uh plan of action i'll
08:50give you a brief rundown don't worry mate we've got that sorted it's all going to be done what we're
08:56going to do is this this and this basically we're going to hit hit it at night less traffic on the road
09:05etc um chloroform both of them that way then they can both be easily restrained from a professional
09:15standpoint of course you have to take these threats seriously he's saying he's going to do it
09:21so why would we not believe it we're then going to force her to make a video just saying that she's
09:27with us under her own free will and she's really consenting into everything we do to her so that covers us
09:39this absolutely had to be taken seriously because he was having conversations online in a forum called
09:44abduct lovers and he was having a conversation with an undercover police officer basically saying
09:51this is what i want to do we're going to go there in the night we need two lots of chloroform
09:56uh he knew that she didn't have cctv on her house i mean he had a level of detail that was quite
10:04astounding i still think my place might be better because there's cameras everywhere it's just a
10:09temporary thing holder here you've got bed you've got warmth etc need you there mate obviously the
10:15chloroform it's going to be fun picking the outfits is going to be fun so if you can get to the uk uh
10:22to england that'd be awesome because then you can be part of it david nelson an undercover police
10:29officer from the other side of the world he's probably sat back for a minute and thought i've
10:34just come across something here that i was not expecting today plum was certain that he wanted to do
10:39this nelson felt that the threat was imminent and that he was going to act on it there was a lot of
10:44evidence in this case that they need to get quickly
11:04third attempt 2023
11:06gavin plum is confident he's found an accomplice to help him kidnap itv this morning presenter holly
11:16willoughby
11:20but plum doesn't know that he's been tricked by an undercover officer in the usa using the false name
11:26of david nelson
11:30nelson felt the threats coming from plum were imminent you know plum had said how excited he was you could
11:35tell how excited he was all right uh plan of action i'll give you a brief rundown basically we're
11:43gonna hit hit it at night uh less traffic on the road etc thank goodness that a gavin plum ended up
11:52speaking to an undercover officer in america and b that that that officer acted very quickly and he
11:59reported it to the fbi
12:08the u.s authorities under the instructions of david nelson will have informed scotland yard
12:13your advice is to safeguard her and then go and investigate him immediately
12:18because plum is based in essex scotland yard passed this intelligence to essex police who then trace
12:32plum's address and they go to his address to arrest him
12:34the arrest team is instructed to take no chances
12:46as it's police don't know how dangerous he is he could have weapons so they have literally gone in
12:50all weapons blazing to make sure that he is secured as soon as they climb by someone
12:54they actually arrested him at night which is very rare you would normally wait you know a good six
13:01o'clock in the morning knock on the door where you know he's going to be at home but they didn't want
13:05to waste a second with him which tells you quite a lot they wanted to get into the address they wanted
13:09to secure all of the devices and get him in custody before there was either things deleted or he went
13:15out to try and commit this offense there was a lot of officers there again i think that's probably to
13:20do with the search of the property rather than the physical arrest of plum here they go
13:29police stay where you are do not touch anything what's going on
13:35what the hell is going on
13:44she's got the cuff straight on him the arresting officer she's literally walked in and cuffed him
13:47before she's even said anything to him the room is a complete tip there's just stuff absolutely
13:54everywhere and he's obviously not got much clothing on unfortunately
13:58it's like when he's asking what is going on like he already knows
14:28what's happening but he's trying to make out he doesn't like he's like doing this false it seems
14:33really false and overacting
14:35to who can you please explain to me what the hell is going on
14:42but it's like he does know already and then when she's explaining it to him he's just like pretending
14:48he's all like shocked and trying to do these facial expressions but it's not really convincing
14:53yeah so at the moment you're under arrest who holly willoughby he realizes that the police may well
15:04have a lot of information on him that he thought was completely anonymous and private and at that
15:10point the penny is dropping that is in very very hot water he was trying to work out in his own head
15:16what his story was going to be the officer was very good with him she was explaining that you've been
15:21you're going to be arrested you're going to be interviewed um over the threats of kidnap for
15:25holly willoughby that's the allegation already it looks like he's thinking where have they got that
15:34information from who's who's told him what one of my accomplices that i've been speaking to
15:38has told him this it's like he feels like someone sort of like grasped him up or dobbed him in rather
15:43than actually you've done it all yourself and unraveled this yourself it's like he's a bit confused by it
15:48it like i said it'll be explained to you in custody um and you'll be interviewed about it
15:53um i'm not going to tell you any further than that at this current time okay okay then that is the
15:59allegation i'm not going to lie she's a fantasy of mine and i'm used to the fantasy of a lot of guys
16:04isn't she yeah i'm not going to lie she's a fantasy of mine she's the fantasy of a lot of guys isn't she
16:11um uh yeah i mean it's just yeah i think he just genuinely has no idea of what he's done and what's
16:25about to hit him which is the uh the full might of the law thank goodness for someone who then goes on
16:37to plead not guilty you would think that perhaps um that's not the right thing to say when you're
16:42accused of wanting to try and kidnap her that'd be the last thing on your mind if you're getting
16:47arrested for kidnap this is serious but all he still wants to talk about is that he fancies her and
16:52he's obviously crazy like he's absolutely deluded he's almost pretty much banged to right straight
16:58away it's it's damning it's damning gavin plum then appears to cooperate but knows the arrest team
17:09is close to finding even more compelling evidence mate if you haven't looked at what i'm opening this
17:15vote here as you said the reason you're just about to go to bed the reason they're going to try that
17:19is because because of the offense that you've been arrested for we need to make sure that we can gather
17:22as much evidence as we can as quickly as we can they need to secure all the evidence before
17:27anything is potentially tampered with or moved and they were right to do that because they broke in
17:32and he had no time to put his phone away you've got no reason his phone was right there with these
17:41chat logs open so that's very crucial evidence which they captured straight away
17:45now police build a much bigger case that gavin plum planned not just kidnap but also rape and murder
18:00so we're in the cells now and plum is a very different man to how he was when police were
18:05breaking down his door i think deep down he probably at this point knows what he's done is illegal but
18:17he's not willing to admit that and he still hasn't to this day
18:21after the arrest the key question for the trial was gavin plum a serious threat
18:37gavin plum is over 30 stone he's very much obese not physically capable in the slightest and then
18:44he is talking about vaulting a wall around someone's house breaking into their house subduing holly and
18:52her husband then taking holly away bundling her into a car all of this without any alarm being raised
19:00so the defense went very hard on the notion that this was a fantasy
19:04the prosecution claimed that despite his size gavin plum did intend to kidnap holly willoughby
19:18hearing all these facts of cable ties chloroform day-to-day living cameras he's got somebody flying
19:24from america to help him his excuse of his weight isn't going to cut it he had intent he was going to
19:31carry this out and he had got someone with more physical ability to help him and yes the defense
19:36are saying he you know he can't physically do it no he couldn't be he had asked someone else to do it with
19:42him you might look at gavin plum and think this man could never you know he's not even going to leave
19:48his house how could he do any harm on anybody anybody who thinks that has never been the victim of
19:54a stalker for a start you know their actions get inside your head and when they know where you live
20:02and when they have a level of detail about your life that they really shouldn't have because they've
20:07gone looking for it and they obviously have means of getting it trust me it's very serious and it should
20:15be treated as such a 37 year old man has been jailed for life serving a minimum of 16 years for plotting
20:27to kidnap rape and murder television presenter holly willoughby gavin plum from harlow in essex
20:35assembled a toolkit for highly sexualized violence but he was arrested after he unwittingly disclosed his
20:42plans online to an undercover police officer in the u.s speaking from experience officer nelson did an
20:52incredible job i think he's used his investigative ability in his you know his mindset was fantastic
20:58because he's just he just knew it was something to work with um and i think he did exactly the right
21:04thing it was revealed that everywhere he went gavin plum was a danger twice carrying imitation guns he
21:14tried to kidnap women on local trains at the nearby shopping precinct he imprisoned two 16 year old girls
21:23after his arrest police found 10 000 photographs of holly willoughby in his flat
21:29what struck me about gavin plum when i first saw the arrest footage was just how sort of mundane and
21:42ordinary he seemed and to think that somebody like that had such a terrible impact on the life of somebody
21:51much loved by the nation was was almost hard to believe at first after 14 years holly willoughby left
22:02this morning immediately after the arrest of gavin plum her statement said i now feel i have to make
22:08this decision for me and my family today an itv spokesperson has released a statement saying this news has come
22:17as a huge shock to everyone at this morning at itv we are providing all of the support we can to holly
22:24and her family at this incredibly distressing time everyone i know messaged holly just to say
22:33we are so sorry that you're going through this and you know hope you're okay uh i mean it's terrifying
22:41and she's got young children and all she does is appear on television do her job go home does the
22:48school run and to be subjected to this sort of psychological terror actually that's what it is
22:56um no one deserves that and you know it absolutely should be treated very seriously by both the police
23:03and the judiciary and then i'm very glad that in this case it was
23:18and i just found a body right okay a body is it are they breathing no they're dead they look like
23:30they've um possibly been there like a few days or something right and stuff right okay bear me a second let's pop this on
23:36this one police were called to a uh reports of a body found near the bennett road area both zolkham
23:45on the 27th of june um our initial inquiries have identified that female as me chong a 67 year old
23:53from the wembley area of london who was reported missing in london on the 11th of june
23:58for 16 days me chong known as deborah chong has been missing
24:14nine days later police go to arrest a suspect
24:20in this case their suspicion fell on jemma mitchell
24:23it was a dramatic police raid they turned up at her house they rammed the door down
24:37police
24:42i'm sorry why aren't you looking well you're not already
24:55okay
24:59i'm just so actually your hands all right gemma
25:02i'm trying to see all the other
25:04OK, you don't have to say anything, but you may hold your fence if you want to mention one question.
25:07Something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say, they'll be given the evidence, OK?
25:11Once you're in the cuffs.
25:13I'll go explain everything to you. OK?
25:16Should I get some cheese?
25:18If you want one sec.
25:20Who's inside at the moment?
25:21Mother.
25:22Your mother? OK.
25:27As an investigator, a murder investigator for me, this was one of the most important stages
25:33of an investigation. Is that arrest?
25:36All right, Gemma, at this moment, I'm resting on the suspicion of murder.
25:39There's no replicating, standing in front of them, delivering those words and looking at them in the eye.
25:45How do they respond? What am I seeing?
25:49Gemma Mitchell's reaction, for me, is one of a guilty person.
25:53OK.
25:54Should I get some cheese?
25:55What?
25:56If you want one sec.
25:57There's no questions being put to the officer.
26:00There's no shock.
26:02There's no reaction that I would expect to see in someone who's completely innocent,
26:06being arrested for the most serious crime you can be arrested for, and just accepting it.
26:11I wouldn't, would you?
26:15Gemma Mitchell was born in Australia.
26:18She was highly educated.
26:20She then came over to the UK with her mother when her parents separated.
26:24She started to study at King's College London in human sciences.
26:29And significantly, there was a module within that course where she learnt to dissect a human body.
26:36She also was a trained osteopath and she was a devout Christian.
26:42Gemma Mitchell and Deborah Chong met through a church group.
26:47Both of them committed devout Christians.
26:51Very quickly, over a few months, they became very close friends and there is evidence of that.
26:57There were hundreds of messages sent between the two of them.
27:01Deborah Chong has been missing all day.
27:19Deborah's lodger then arrives at home in the evening and he notices that Deborah's not there.
27:28He notices also that her glasses and her mobile phone are still in the house.
27:34And he rings police and reports her as missing.
27:45The next day, the lodger decided to message Deborah's good friend, Gemma Mitchell,
27:50just to see whether she had an idea of where Deborah could be.
27:53And Mitchell responded with a text message saying that Deborah decided to go away.
28:00She had gone to visit friends and she was going there for a year.
28:03And it was somewhere near the ocean.
28:06And that message clearly from Gemma was to try to reassure this lodger.
28:12For two weeks, no one sees or hears anything from Deborah Chong.
28:21But when her body is discovered in the seaside resort of Sulcombe, Devon,
28:25a murder inquiry begins 200 miles away in London.
28:29It will be the Metropolitan Police responsibility for investigating the crime,
28:35because given all the circumstances, that is where the murder is likely to have taken place.
28:40A murder investigation team of roughly about 20 detectives.
28:44One of the most important roles in this investigation would be that of the CCTV officer,
28:50which would be a detective constable and it would be their responsibility to collect the CCTV.
28:56And then viewing it, understanding what the footage shows.
29:04The CCTV in this case was hugely important, especially around the movements of Gemma Mitchell.
29:10On June the 11th, 2021, Gemma decides to leave her house quite early on in the morning at around half past six.
29:29Gemma Mitchell was seen pulling a suitcase behind her, a large suitcase,
29:33that quite clearly was empty because it was easy for her to lift and manoeuvre.
29:39And she's sort of just strolling along the street.
29:42She is about to get on a train.
29:50Next, police discover CCTV showing Gemma Mitchell wearing a face mask and a beanie.
30:00She is taking that suitcase to Deborah Chong's house.
30:09She's then spotted leaving the house, dragging along, not one, but two suitcases.
30:20When she had taken it from her house, she didn't have any problems dragging it along.
30:24After she left Deborah's house, it's very clear she's having difficulty trying to drag it along.
30:30It looks very heavy and she's having difficulty manoeuvring it.
30:34One of them had the body of Deborah Chong.
30:39Gemma had just murdered her.
30:40It was clearly something in there that was very heavy and she's having to stop and then she phoned someone.
30:51She was struggling to move it. She had to kick the wheels to get it to move.
30:56She then tries to get a taxi at one point.
30:58The other suitcase she's got in that suitcase were lots and lots of documents, personal documents belonging to Deborah.
31:11In this bit of footage, she's left one of the suitcases on the edge of the verge and she's dragging up the other suitcase.
31:18And then she spends a good couple of hours dragging the suitcase, which had Deborah's body in it.
31:33A taxi arrives. The driver needs help loading the heavy case into the boot.
31:39It will be 16 days before it's seen again.
31:42Salcombe is a long way from anywhere.
31:59It finds itself in the bottom right hand corner of South Devon.
32:04It's a very beautiful place with lots of sandy beaches and a reputation for some really expensive houses.
32:10Remember, this was not long after Covid as well. This is June 2021 where people would have been enjoying their staycations, perhaps unable to go abroad and just really wanting to have a bit of relaxation time by the coast.
32:25And what better place to go than beautiful Salcombe.
32:29It is about as far as you can imagine from the type of place where you would expect to find a body.
32:37This body looks like it's been there some time because of the amount of decomposition she can see.
32:41This body looks like it's been there some time because of the amount of decomposition she can see.
32:42Gemma Mitchell had kept the body at her house in London for two weeks.
32:44This body looks like it's been there some time because of the amount of decomposition she can see.
32:48Gemma Mitchell had kept the body at her house in London for two weeks and most of the decomposition would have occurred there.
32:49This body looks like it's been there some time because of the amount of decomposition she can see.
33:06Gemma Mitchell had kept the body at her house in London for two weeks and most of the decomposition would have occurred there.
33:13To cover up her murder of Deborah Chong, Gemma Mitchell devised an extraordinary plan.
33:32She hired a car in a false name.
33:35She left her phone at home so that she was leaving no trail in her mind of going to Salcombe in Devon,
33:43which is about 200 miles from London, so a huge distance.
33:47And she hired quite a large car, a Volvo SUV.
33:54Detectives discover more CCTV, this time recording Gemma Mitchell near home, loading a suitcase into the hire car.
34:07She's trying to lift it up, having a lot of difficulty.
34:10It's clearly very heavy, with Deborah's body in, into the back of the car.
34:16She keys into the sat-nav Sulcombe North Sands Cliff Road.
34:25But close to her destination, a problem, a flat tyre.
34:33She was helped by an AA technician at a garage a few miles outside Sulcombe.
34:38And he noted how there was a smell in the car,
34:42and how when he came to put the spare wheel back in its normal place,
34:46Gemma Mitchell was deeply uncomfortable with that and asked him instead to put it on the back seat.
34:52Something he said he remembered thinking was very strange at the time.
34:56But we can only assume that the reason Gemma Mitchell did not want that wheel to go back in its rightful place,
35:03was that the body, or at least some parts of it, were in the boot of her car.
35:12Next, police find CCTV of Gemma Mitchell's hire car heading towards the seafront.
35:18And she drives around a bit there, and then she makes a decision to dump Deborah's body in woodland.
35:34About 40 minutes after she arrives, her car that she's using is seen again, leaving the area,
35:40and then she makes her way back to London.
35:46I just found a body.
35:50But there is an even more gruesome fact about the discovery.
35:55The head is missing.
35:57No, they're dead. They look like they've possibly been there, like, a few days or something.
36:02OK.
36:05It took some time and a police search to find Deborah's head some ten feet away from Deborah's body.
36:18Gemma Mitchell was a trained osteopath.
36:22And she got a first-class honours degree at King's College.
36:25And as part of her training, she learnt how to dissect human bodies.
36:34This was an idyllic seaside place that general crime doesn't happen, let alone murders.
36:41Let alone murders involved bodies with decapitated heads.
36:45When she murdered and dismembered Deborah, Gemma Mitchell suffered an injury herself.
37:00This would give the police video team more evidence.
37:04Later in the evening, this is inside St. Thomas' Hospital,
37:09and you can see she's got something wrapped around one of her fingers.
37:13Almost certainly in the process of attacking, killing and subduing Deborah,
37:20she'd broken her finger.
37:22It would have been a spanner in the works, if you like,
37:25so she would have had to have thought about,
37:27well, under what circumstances could I have broken my finger?
37:30And she told the hospital that it's because she had shut her finger in a car door.
37:39All right, Gemma, at this moment I'm resting on suspicion of murder.
37:42During the arrest, the bandaging is still visible on Gemma Mitchell's left hand.
37:48I'll go explain everything to you.
37:50OK?
37:51Shall I get some cheese?
37:52No, sorry.
37:53If you want to one sec.
37:55Who's inside at the moment?
37:56My mother.
37:57Your mother?
37:58It's just one moment in an arrest that points to Gemma Mitchell's guilt.
38:05What we see is the officers are turning up with what is referred to in the Metropolitan Police as an enforcer.
38:13essentially it's like a battering ram.
38:18I think the decision to use the enforcer was because they wanted to get hold of the evidence before Gemma Mitchell could destroy it.
38:27Gemma, do you want to come up?
38:28Do you want to come up?
38:29Yeah, sure, sure.
38:30Do you like to try and see them?
38:31Just so see your hands.
38:32All right, Gemma.
38:33As soon as Gemma Mitchell comes to the door, she's compliant.
38:36She's not in a panic.
38:37She's not violent.
38:38She's not obstructing them in any way.
38:41So that allows them to then engage with her in terms of why they are there.
38:46All right, Gemma.
38:47At this moment, I'm resting in a suspicion of murder.
38:49OK?
38:50You don't have to say anything.
38:51She physically kind of moves back.
38:53She's almost surprised.
38:55Clearly it's all an act.
38:56But she is very calm and a real contrast to how the police tried to knock down the front door in her house.
39:06Inside, police discover the documents taken away in the second suitcase.
39:10Financial records of Deborah Chong's £700,000 estate, recently updated.
39:17They find a will that was forged by Gemma, and the will said that 95% of Deborah's estate would be left to Gemma,
39:28and 5% would be left to Gemma's mother.
39:31That will was forged after Gemma murdered Deborah.
39:35So that was a really significant piece of information that they found at the property.
39:39Significant, police found, because Gemma Mitchell was banking on money that Deborah had offered her.
39:47The roof of Gemma Mitchell's house needed fixing.
39:50But she claimed she was out of money.
39:53Deborah offered Gemma around £200,000 to help her renovate and finish the work on Gemma's house.
40:02At one point, Deborah went to have a look at Gemma's house, and it was a complete tip.
40:08It was like a building site.
40:10And it was that visit that seemed to change her mind.
40:14Deborah said to Gemma, I'm not going to give you the money.
40:17There was a message exchanged between the two of them.
40:20And Deborah was clearly telling Gemma to sell the house, and that clearly triggered something in Gemma.
40:29Gemma Mitchell was determined to get the money promised to her by Deborah.
40:35Gemma Mitchell decided to hatch a plan where she would take that money anyway.
40:40But that would involve murdering Deborah.
40:47Deborah Chong, detectives learned, had been a vulnerable target.
40:53She had a number of mental health issues.
40:55She was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
40:57She also was referred to a local community mental health centre.
41:03And that was because she was sending messages to the then Prince Charles.
41:08She thought that she could communicate with him through YouTube.
41:11She was also sending messages as well to Boris Johnson.
41:14So she was a vulnerable woman who was trusting of other people.
41:19In custody, Gemma Mitchell is questioned about driving Deborah's dead body to Sulcombe.
41:27And her strange behaviour when her car had to be fixed.
41:32And they've said that the person driving the Volvo waited in the car all that time,
41:42with the windows down and the front door open, the passenger door open.
41:48when it was literally chucking it down with rain and it was windy.
41:53Why is that, Gemma?
41:55No comment.
41:58The car stank, didn't it, Gemma?
42:00No comment.
42:02Stunk of a dead person.
42:03No comment.
42:05Stunk of Deborah's decomposing body.
42:13Is that right, Gemma?
42:14No comment.
42:16At the Old Bailey today, a woman has been found guilty of murder and jailed for life,
42:26serving a minimum of 34 years.
42:29Gemma Mitchell, aged 38, an osteopath from North West London,
42:34murdered a fellow churchgoer and concealed her body 200 miles away.
42:39I covered the trial and it was gruesome, grisly details that were really horrific.
42:48All right, Gemma, at this moment, I'm resting on a suspicion of murder.
42:51OK?
42:52You don't have to say anything.
42:53This case was about the ultimate betrayal of friendship.
42:57And it's not every day you see a case like that at the Old Bailey.
43:02You know, one so horrific where you're listening to evidence about a woman being murdered
43:07and then decapitated by her friend, stuffed in a suitcase, and then her body dumped in woodland.
43:14I'm in.
43:15They're doing
43:24I'm in.
