00:00Weekend break or two-week escape.
00:06The Great Escapers, brought to you by Jet 2 Holidays.
00:10Ahoy there, ladies!
00:13Stars from Britain's best-loved shows are jetting off for a holiday showdown.
00:18Is anyone else nervous? Yeah.
00:20Legends of Corrie, I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here,
00:23Loose Women and The Chase are competing against their fellow castmates.
00:26Yeah! Hey, no road rage, please.
00:31To prove they can deliver the best holiday adventure.
00:34You like that break a bit, do you watch? I'm not even pressing the break.
00:37Each famous face...
00:39Can we get back to coronation, please?
00:41O-M-G.
00:42DJ Destroyer!
00:43...will plan their dream day in the sun.
00:45We are Loose Women. Together we can do anything.
00:48And at the end of the week...
00:50They'll vote to decide who will be crowned the greatest escaper.
00:54Are we all thinking, I want to win?
00:57Yeah.
00:58Only one of us can be the greatest escaper.
01:00Who is it going to be?
01:10Malta!
01:12The jewel of the Mediterranean.
01:14Blue skies, ancient ruins and a stunning coastline.
01:18The island is the perfect backdrop to crown this week's greatest escaper.
01:23Waiting in the wings are three lucky stars from the nation's favourite soap.
01:28Coronation Street.
01:29First to check in is Salford's Finest.
01:33Good morning. Where are you flying to today?
01:35Malta.
01:35Malta.
01:36Corrie legend Andy Wyman.
01:38My perfect day on a holiday, having a few drinks, and then if there's a football game on, watch that hope for Man United.
01:45There you go.
01:47This is a competition, and I like to say I am competitive.
01:50I think my day will be the best, and hopefully I'll end up a winner.
01:55Also escaping the cobbles in search of that winning feeling is national treasure.
01:59That's the back gone. No, no, I'm kidding.
02:02Dame Maureen Lipman.
02:04I wouldn't dream of lying on a beach all day and just sunning myself. I'd much rather see the sights.
02:10You're playing from good eating this morning.
02:12I am competitive. I'll play dirty about it.
02:15The others will obviously think that mine was the best day.
02:19Hello, what time do you call this? Good to see you.
02:22And fashionably late to the contest is our final great escaper.
02:28Yeah, it's somewhere around here.
02:30One of Corrie's youngest stars, Tanisha Gorey.
02:34Buzzing. Can't wait to get there.
02:36I love a chill holiday, but although staying by the pool is lovely, I do think I want to see a little bit of what's going on around me.
02:42It's just very fancy.
02:44Technology.
02:45Everyone's idea of a perfect day is so different.
02:49I want to say I might have what it takes to win.
02:51Hello.
02:53How are you doing?
02:54Hello.
02:55You OK?
02:56Looking forward to our little trip.
02:58Remember, what happens in Malta stays in Malta.
03:01Oh, right. Yeah.
03:02OK, well, those shorts should stay in Malta.
03:06Take yourself there.
03:10It's a three and a half hour flight from the UK to Malta.
03:13Enjoying 300 days of sun a year, it's one of the sunniest countries in Europe.
03:17Well, this is very posh.
03:20A bit too posh for me.
03:22Battle lines drawn.
03:24And the hatch.
03:26The gang prepare for the biggest showdown since the Rovers put up the price of a pint.
03:31Your day tomorrow.
03:32It is my day.
03:34Big day.
03:34Yeah.
03:34I've got a feeling your day is going to be not something that I would certainly do.
03:39But the strip club is not going to appeal to you.
03:40What?
03:41I think it would, you know.
03:43Obviously, the A's gap as well.
03:46Cheeky.
03:47No, no.
03:47Whatever.
03:48She's not that young.
03:51But that's what's going to be so interesting.
03:54Next to tomorrow.
03:55I mean, because Wednesday we won't be speaking, will we?
03:57So we might as well.
04:02It's day one of the competition.
04:04And like true Brits abroad, Andy and Tanisha have played it safe at the buffet.
04:09Cup of tea.
04:10Cup of tea.
04:10What more can you ask for?
04:11And a croissant.
04:12A croissant.
04:13A pan of chocolat.
04:14While Andy gets to grips with a continental breakfast.
04:19Morning.
04:19Good morning.
04:20Maureen has a date with customer helper Gio to help her plan a more cosmopolitan day.
04:26Okay, so here, because I know it's historic, I would like to see the main sights of Malta
04:33and understand the influences, really.
04:36I wouldn't want to be walking all day.
04:38Is there modes of transport to save my feet?
04:41So I've got these fabulous little buggies that you can hire.
04:44Take you around, see some of the sights.
04:46What do you think Maureen's got in store for us?
04:49She'll have a bit of walking, a bit of facts learning, a bit of history.
04:53No, I don't mind walking.
04:54What, in your sliders?
04:55There's nothing more comfortable than sliders.
04:58From the plane, this is the most extraordinary sight, isn't it?
05:02Absolutely.
05:02So I think you can't obviously get that from being on Malta, but you could certainly get it on a boat.
05:09If you want the kind of breeze and you want the best vantage point, I mean, look at where we are.
05:12The sea's absolutely, absolutely gorgeous out there.
05:15So we do have, as well, gondolas.
05:19Do you?
05:19Do you fancy?
05:20Absolutely.
05:21So you could...
05:22Maltese gondola?
05:23Yes.
05:23Like a Malteser?
05:24I'm worried it's going to be my idea of hell.
05:26If I'm not enjoying myself, I'd say you'll probably be able to sell it by my face anyway.
05:30Great.
05:31If only life were always like this, you know.
05:33I think he got all the right notes about, you know, don't walk me for 18 miles uphill because you don't want to, you know, a cadaver is not a good thing to have.
05:44So this is the start of what we in showbiz has called the winning day.
05:50Maureen is kicking off her winning day in the medieval city of Birgu, perched just across Malta's Grand Harbour from the capital, Valletta,
05:58where she'll be combining her love of history with low step counts.
06:02Oh, look at this.
06:05Are we getting in?
06:06This is for you, darling, so you can sit in the back.
06:10Armed with a handbag full of wiki printouts, Maureen's hired a self-drive tuk-tuk that can double up as a mobile library.
06:18I like a working holiday.
06:20I like romance and history, so I'm trying to shoehorn in culture.
06:25I think it'll work fine, and I think they will rise to the post.
06:29Have you ever done the dodgums, Andy?
06:31Yeah, I have.
06:31There you go.
06:32You'll be all right, then.
06:33Yeah.
06:33In the dodgums.
06:33Yeah.
06:34Oh!
06:35You can't even see if I fell off the back!
06:38Are you all right, though?
06:39Yeah, I'm all right.
06:42Are you all right going backwards?
06:44No, I'm not.
06:45No, Andy, I'm not all right going backwards, to be honest.
06:47I see it either is you throwing up on the back.
06:49He was ragging me around in the back.
06:51It was awful.
06:52I thought I'm going to fall out of it.
06:53I felt a bit sick.
06:54It wasn't great.
06:55Look in the wall, Denise, and you'll see lots of bullet holes where the cannonballs hit it.
07:00Oh, wow, it'll feel great.
07:02That'll take your mind off your belly.
07:04Yeah, don't worry about your belly.
07:05Right, you like that brake a bit too much.
07:07I'm not even pressing the brake, it's just the accelerator.
07:12Going left, yeah.
07:13What do you mean?
07:14Going left.
07:14We're going left.
07:15Going left.
07:16Oh, oh.
07:17Thank you very much.
07:20Safety belt's just cut off my left breast.
07:22I'll be like...
07:23It's going to be something historical, or something like that with Maureen.
07:27Anything historic, it's probably going to bore me.
07:29This particular island that we are on has been invaded more times than Jerusalem.
07:34It's got influences, and I'm not talking about, you know, TikTok.
07:39This is Tuk-Tuk.
07:41The TikTok Tuk-Tuk.
07:42These influences included the Order of St John,
07:45a religious and military group granted Malta in the 16th century.
07:50They were given this place by King Charles V.
07:53He gave them Tripoli, Malta, and he gave them Gozo.
07:57In exchange for what? Does anybody know?
07:59A melon.
08:00A falcon.
08:01A falcon?
08:02Oh, a Maltese falcon.
08:03Ah, see, there you go.
08:05I can't lie.
08:06I'm not one for history.
08:08That is not me.
08:09Manners!
08:09Whoa!
08:12We're from England!
08:15I think I might just be sick in my mouth a little bit.
08:18She didn't actually vomit on her friends.
08:21You've got to be grateful for small mercies, really.
08:24So then we had the British coming in and getting rid of the French.
08:29Malta gained independence in 1964, but they've kept the British shop signs and street furniture.
08:34British post box there.
08:36British post box there.
08:37Oh, yeah.
08:38Isn't that her?
08:38Oh, yeah.
08:39British post box.
08:40Oh, yeah.
08:40We left all the good things.
08:42I wasn't feeling too great in the back of that, but Maury told us everything on the tour.
08:46She loves it.
08:47She's brilliant.
08:47I really, really enjoyed that.
08:51Well, put it there, mate.
08:52Don't give it a look.
08:52Oh, there you go.
08:54You did me there.
08:55You did me there.
08:56I've got to be honest.
08:57History and all that kind of thing, not for me.
09:01But driving the electric coal, whatever you want to call it, is amazing.
09:06I'm worried now.
09:07I think she could have pulled it out of the bag.
09:08I think you've definitely pulled it out of the bag, Maureen.
09:10I was concerned that I didn't have enough information to really arouse your curiosity, both of you.
09:17Mm.
09:17Yeah.
09:18Well, I've got the idea to drive.
09:20Definitely.
09:21Have you ever drove abroad before, Maureen?
09:23I have driven in Zakintos, and I had to drive because it was the first holiday I'd ever gone on alone because my husband had died.
09:32And I was very scared even just to drive to the shops on the wrong side of the road.
09:38Just a bit sort of angry.
09:39Yes, you do get angry when someone dies, you know.
09:44But there was a great sense of achievement.
09:48Everyone was a bit worried about me.
09:50After Jack died, and I was in such a state, but I was so proud of myself that I had achieved a holiday.
09:59And looking after myself, I came back like a kind of footballer going, yes, I did it.
10:05You have to challenge yourself in life and just keep going.
10:09But then I found someone else to lean on.
10:11I just went on a circuit of marriage and happiness and children and then came back.
10:19I'm with my partner now, David, and I've moved in and thinking about getting married.
10:24Thank you for sharing that story, Maureen.
10:25Thank you, Maureen.
10:26It was really nice having Maureen opened up about her past because obviously, see, we don't really get to see that side of her at work.
10:33Just to get to know her a bit more as Maureen Littman is really, really nice.
10:37Green fruit, green fruit after our first activity.
10:40Maureen's day is going fantastic.
10:42And I think I'm a little bit worried now about mine.
10:44The Great Escapers brought to you by Jet2 Holidays.
11:00Sunbed snoozing or speedboat cruising?
11:03The Great Escapers brought to you by Jet2 Holidays.
11:09Three of Corrie's finest are on holiday in Malta, but it's a trip with a twist as they compete with their co-stars to put on the best day before deciding who's the winner at the end of the week.
11:26Today, Maureen Littman is in charge, and she's brought the gang to the Grand Harbour, where she's bringing out the big guns to impress.
11:36Oh!
11:37That'll be it.
11:38That's your gun salute.
11:41A tradition since the 19th century, Malta's twice-daily gun salute helped ship captains keep the correct time.
11:47Taking you now on something a little more romantic, a different view of Malta, perhaps.
11:56Maureen is hoping to seduce her co-stars by making the harbour crossing to the Maltese capital, Valletta, on a traditional gondola.
12:05Very romantic.
12:08Gratis.
12:10I like the trappings of romance, so it'll be interesting to see what the young ones think of my rather sedate choice.
12:18Oh!
12:19Oh, we're so close to the wall, aren't we?
12:20Behind you, that is the fortified city of Valletta, which became the capital.
12:32Wow.
12:33Something nice.
12:34I was thinking it's such a lovely thing to come into a city from the sea.
12:39You can't beat it.
12:40Yeah.
12:41Romantic.
12:43Oh, there's a swell here, there's a swell.
12:45It was a good idea to put my swim shorts on.
12:47I don't like the sea.
12:49I really don't like the sea.
12:50I wasn't a fan of how close we physically were to the water, and I was feeling a little bit seasick when it got a bit rocky.
12:57Follow me.
12:58Woo!
12:58There goes my sobbing hat.
12:59Oh, no!
13:00I did watch it drown, and I liked that hat.
13:06It was particularly fine with this outfit.
13:09I do feel a bit more like I should be on a gondola with my wife, because they are quite romantic.
13:14I think all kind of different vehicles are, you know, a train is very romantic.
13:21So it was on a train that David told me that it was a particular day in the Jewish calendar where a woman can ask a man to marry.
13:31So we were sitting with a table between us, and I just slid down.
13:35Slid down under the table?
13:36Yeah, it's not one you think.
13:37And I said, will you marry me?
13:39He said, yes.
13:40I couldn't get out.
13:41Is that a date now?
13:42Before you could...
13:43No, I mean, I couldn't get back out from under the table.
13:47What's a romantic proposal?
13:49Arse first, like, you know, like, I could not get out.
13:55I've lived with the consequences of that since, because wherever I go, there are people saying, when's the happy day?
14:03So it's made me a bit scared of the happy day.
14:07We're in Valletta.
14:08The gondola has taken the gang across the harbour to the fortified city of Valletta.
14:14As well as being one of Europe's smallest capitals, it's also one of the hilliest.
14:20You need some oxygen at the top of here.
14:23I am feeling a bit out of breath, you know, Andy.
14:26Wow.
14:27Can we get back to Coronation Street, please?
14:29I forget that I'm going to be 80 next year, although the newspapers don't.
14:35Maureen Lipman's 79.
14:37Many, many steps later, a flustered team quarry eventually reach Upper Baraka Gardens, one of Valletta's highest points.
14:45And the spot for Maureen's final cultural activity.
14:48Ah!
14:49At least there's somewhere to sit down.
14:58So, my children, I brought you to the square to see some traditional Maltese dancing.
15:03It's a peasant dance from the 30s.
15:06I never get to dance.
15:08I never had a man friend who danced.
15:13My husband was older.
15:16Dance was not his thing.
15:18Go on, you get old.
15:19I don't think we slide, doesn't go well with this.
15:21I've learnt flamenco in my time.
15:23I've learnt tango.
15:25But I don't have an opportunity to use them.
15:28Woo!
15:30Bravo!
15:31Amazing.
15:32Do you like the dance?
15:33Oh, yes.
15:34Yes, we'd love to, wouldn't we?
15:35Come on.
15:36I can't do the spinny bit.
15:38I'm going to be okay doing this in sliders.
15:40Yeah.
15:41So, what we'll be doing is we'll be going round.
15:44Yay!
15:45And going to your face, don't worry.
15:47Okay, okay.
15:48And we're going to change.
15:49Oh, okay.
15:50I've got an idea.
15:51Oh!
15:52It's been a surreal day.
15:53I did not expect the day to end like that.
15:55No, I didn't.
15:56I did not expect us to all be dancing together.
15:57Yeah.
15:58But what a way to end it.
15:59What a brilliant way.
16:00Perfect.
16:01I think.
16:02I think it's really brought us together.
16:03Yeah.
16:04I think it's been a really, really lovely day.
16:05That's the one.
16:06I love that boy.
16:07Woo!
16:08We're going into the vehicle now.
16:09Go on, boy.
16:10What are you doing?
16:11Oh, so sorry.
16:12Yay!
16:13Thank you very much.
16:14Thank you very much.
16:16I've passed the age of, you know, you can't do it.
16:22You can't do it.
16:23You just look like a tit.
16:24So, it's good to have some steps.
16:27So, that was lovely.
16:29I've got to say, I was worried about your day, Maureen.
16:33But I've got to be honest, I've had a fantastic time.
16:36Have you?
16:37I have too.
16:38Me too.
16:39I think we are bonded today.
16:40Obviously, we're all at different times in our lives.
16:42We all have different experiences.
16:43We all like different things.
16:44But at the same time, I do think there's a bit of common ground
16:47for the three of us.
16:48The end of my day.
16:50It's day two of the competition, and it's Tanisha's turn to show her co-stars a good time.
17:00But with today's host still feeling queasy from yesterday's rocky rides, she's planning something more stationary.
17:07I'm wanting to book a day, a perfect day.
17:09So, a couple of activities.
17:11Just doing what's really lovely in Malta.
17:13Something a bit, you know, arts and crafts-y.
17:16Well, we can absolutely do something along those lines there.
17:19I'm thinking maybe a glassblowing class.
17:20And we'll be able to get involved and we'll be able to...
17:22100%.
17:23100% you can get involved.
17:24Amazing.
17:25I've seen it myself.
17:26Get me in the furnace.
17:27Absolutely, absolutely.
17:28You'll want to get hands-on with it.
17:29Do you think that Tanisha is confident about the day she's providing for us?
17:36To be honest, I think because your day went so well yesterday, I think you made her nervous about her day today.
17:42Also thinking...
17:43Yep.
17:44I don't cook very much and I'm not a very good cook.
17:46OK, but that's something you want to do.
17:48You can absolutely arrange a cooking class, you know, just do exactly that, pretty much.
17:51That's what I like to hear.
17:52Yeah?
17:53One last thing, if you can help me out.
17:54Absolutely.
17:55So, I'm wanting to get Maureen started on a little bit of social media.
17:58So, I'm really wanting somewhere picturesque.
18:01So, I've got a suggestion for you.
18:02OK.
18:03So, it's a place called Medina.
18:04You know, you're going to walk in and you do feel like you've just walked into a film set.
18:08Thank you so much.
18:09Not at all.
18:18Oh, hey.
18:19Here we are, guys.
18:20Right.
18:23Oh, Medina Glass Handmaid.
18:25Arts and Craft isn't really a thing for me, but this could be different.
18:29Lick your lips before you blow it.
18:31Lick your lips before you blow it?
18:33Is that the...
18:34That's all we need to do, Maureen?
18:36The gang also need a red-hot furnace and molten glass before competing to see who is full of the most hot air.
18:43I grew up doing a lot of arts and crafts with my grandparents, so this is a little bit close to home.
18:49If there's anything like arts and crafty type thing, I've never been any good at that.
18:53Oh, my God.
18:55How hot is it in here?
18:58Now, this is what I want my shower temperature to be.
19:01Would you like to try?
19:04I'm scared.
19:06Before testing their lung capacity, a lung pipe picks up molten glass.
19:11So, this is the clear glass, OK?
19:13OK.
19:14And we are going to apply coloured glass now.
19:15OK.
19:16It's in coloured shards.
19:17Bit like sherbet.
19:19Now, we're warming it up.
19:20Basically, what we're doing is we're warming up the colour so that it melts into the transparent glass, OK?
19:29We're going to shape it here.
19:32Oh, my!
19:35I grew up a lot with my grandparents because my mum was a single mum, so she was at work a lot.
19:39So, I grew up with... I was literally always at my grandparents, always doing everything.
19:42Arts and crafts-y.
19:43I just love it.
19:44When I say stop, better stop.
19:46Yeah.
19:47It's OK?
19:48Yeah.
19:49Oh, well blown.
19:50Well blown.
19:53Now, basically, he's going to open it into a bowl, OK?
19:55Like that.
19:56Oh, wow.
19:58Oh, my God.
19:59That's amazing.
20:02So, you just hold the pipe from here and try and roll it over like this.
20:05I'm a little bit nervous, more so, of Andy and Maureen absolutely hating it.
20:11OK.
20:15I think she'd think, what the hell is he doing?
20:18It was a bit hot in there.
20:19If I'm honest, like, I'm not really into it.
20:22Slowly.
20:24That's it, that's it, that's it, that's it.
20:25I felt like I was right next to the sun, it was that hot.
20:28Yeah.
20:30We'll make a bottle of this, OK?
20:32Yeah.
20:33On a bowl.
20:34In my head, it's lilac and purple.
20:37At the moment, it's red and it's black.
20:40Like myself.
20:42Well, let's get out of here, it's absolutely roasted.
20:44I think if you do something indigenous and you learn something in the day, then it's a day well spent.
20:51When we was making the class ourselves, quite clumsy, so I'm quite happy that I've come out there unscathed.
20:56We all had a good blow, didn't we?
20:57We did.
20:58I've given us all something to take home, so it's a win-win for me, I think.
21:03So what made you want to do that, then?
21:04When I was younger, my amazing mother, she was a young mum, she was 19, and she was working constantly to provide for us.
21:11So my grandparents, I was with them a lot, and my granddad loves his arts and crafts.
21:15He's very good at it.
21:16Right.
21:17So keeping me occupied at the weekend, we would always be building something, you know, boxes, crafts.
21:22Yeah, so it was really nice to have a memory, memory of that.
21:25I think being around them so much of my younger life, I do think I can relate quite a lot of how to get on with the older generation.
21:32They do say that friends are God's apology for relatives, but your family, your family is so important.
21:38Yeah, it really is.
21:39Isn't it?
21:40Yeah.
21:41Yeah, it was nice to hear Tanisha's story about being brought up by her grandparents.
21:44I've worked with her for a long time, but we don't really speak about stuff like that at work, so just to hear her speak about grandparents like that was really nice.

22:53The Great Escapers, brought to you by Jet2 Holidays.
23:03Three Corrie legends are in Malta, where co-stars have become rivals as they compete for the title of Greatest Escaper.
23:10They'll vote for the winner at the end of the week.
23:13Tanisha is in charge today and she's brought the gang to Imdina, a 30-minute drive inland from the capital, Valletta.
23:22Despite having just 250 residents, it's the oldest city in Malta and has seen even more drama than The Rovers Return.
23:30Here we are, guys.
23:32Okay.
23:33Welcome.
23:34A lot of very, very famous shows are filmed here.
23:37We've got Game of Thrones.
23:38Gladiators, that's the other one.
23:40Oh, I'm sorry.
23:41No, no, Gladiator.
23:42No, Gladiator.
23:43No, Gladiator is a TV show.
23:44Gladiator is a TV show.
23:45There's more than one.
23:46More than one.
23:47There's no shadow or wolf here.
23:48Brilliant.
23:49Brilliant.
23:50As one of Europe's most impressive walled cities, Imdina is a major tourist hotspot and these ancient streets have witnessed knights, nobles and those Game of Thrones dragons.
24:01But today is the backdrop to a different kind of battle, to be crowned the Greatest Escaper.
24:07So I brought us here because some people say this is the most Instagrammable place in the world.
24:13Well, I'm on Instagram.
24:14Maureen, however, is not yet.
24:17Yet?
24:18Keyword yet.
24:19Why would I want to put my dinner on a picture and send it to people I don't know?
24:25Well, that's the point.
24:26It's not dinner.
24:27It's you.
24:28You're fabulous.
24:29Right.
24:30Let's go.
24:31Let's do it.
24:32Then I'll say no on the inside of the bridge as well as the outside.
24:33Rather than the outside.
24:34Perfect.
24:35Just what we like to hear.
24:36I am chronically on my phone, like, really, really, really bad.
24:39So I think I'm going to try and get her on a little bit of social media.
24:41I'm going to get her little nice profile picture going on, get her posting some stories.
24:44She has a great fashion sense.
24:45Great hair.
24:46Go on then, put me on.
24:47This is a big moment in Maureen.
24:48Right.
24:49No, no, no.
24:50This is the biggest moment.
24:51I had a profile picture.
24:52Can you look at the camera?
24:53So then I won't have a profile, will I?
24:54No.
24:55That's perfect.
24:56Brilliant.
24:57There we go.
24:58We got there.
24:59Presume we're not going in the Natural History Museum.
25:00It's a medina.
25:01It was a former capital.
25:02The St Peter's monastery.
25:03There is antiquity.
25:04So they want me to go on, to be on Instagram.
25:09I don't see it because why don't I just take a picture and send it.
25:13There you go.
25:15You look fabulous.
25:16Okay.
25:17Look, you've got no followers.
25:18No, it's not.
25:19You're not letting anyone follow you.
25:20They would like to follow me.
25:22I'm following you.
25:23This way.
25:24I'll follow you, Maureen.
25:25Did she have a G&T at lunch?
25:26Or three.
25:27Or five?
25:28Oh, a nice.
25:29Oh, a nice.
25:30Oh, a nice.
25:31Oh, a nice.
25:32Oh, a nice.
25:33Oh, a nice.
25:34Oh, a nice.
25:35Oh, oh, so I can't wait.
25:36Oh, I got to wait.
25:39Oh, I don't wait.
25:40I can't wait.
25:41I can't wait.
25:42Can you wait?
25:43Oh, a nice perch. That's lovely. That's beautiful.
25:47There you go. Oh, Maureen, that is gorgeous.
25:52It's really quiet down here, isn't it?
25:54Nicknamed the Silent City, Imdina became a ghost town
25:58after losing its capital status to Valletta in the 16th century,
26:02and it's still pretty tranquil today.
26:04Maureen, this is no good. Could we just get in the back of your head?
26:09Pull up. One.
26:13Now, can we go somewhere interesting?
26:16I mean, this is interesting, really interesting,
26:19but we're not seeing it because we're farting about.
26:22If I'm honest, I can't see Maureen starting taking pictures of anything
26:25and putting it on Instagram.
26:26OK, I've got 11 friends, so what I'm going to do,
26:29I'm going to go in the shop, I'm going to buy 11 postcards,
26:32I am going to write, I had ravioli for my lunch.
26:35If only there was a quicker way to share holiday memories.
26:39These are painted.
26:40I think these are lovely. Maureen's just been...
26:42It's because she's gone to another level.
26:45Right, the postcards now. Thank you very much.
26:49I am having a lovely time here in Medina on holiday in Malta.
26:54The weather is clement.
26:56I am not sunbathing and not sleeping, but I am still fat.
27:00She's going to write it now. She's going home on Friday.
27:03I mean, they probably aren't going to get it till next week.
27:06Oh, I feel very excited because now I can post pictures of my bum.
27:13On the plus side, we've seen some great history.
27:18And you could also say you've got an ology in social media.
27:25This is the final bit of my day.
27:31Where are we?
27:32After the chaos of Imdina, Tanisha has brought the gang to the sleepy village of Attard.
27:37Andy, don't forget the dame.
27:39No, it's all right. I'll be fine.
27:41Oh, come on. Sorry, Maureen. Come on, love.
27:44There you go. Come on.
27:46Whose house is this?
27:48Well, we'll find out.
27:49We are going to do a cooking class.
27:52I'm going to do any cooking at home.
27:54Well, you're going to do it here.
27:56Moving out young, it's a learning experience.
28:00As an adult cooking at home, I'm really trying to widen my horizon,
28:04see what's going on.
28:05So I am excited for it.
28:06I really hope they like it as well.
28:09In a break from the usual fare at Roy's Rolls,
28:12Tanisha has organised a foodie class at the home of esteemed Maltese cook Pippa Martai.
28:19Hi. Hello.
28:20Hi. Hello.
28:21Come in.
28:22Welcome to my kitchen.
28:24Thank you very much.
28:25This is just a simple recipe that I'm doing.
28:28It's an aliotta, which is a Maltese fish soup, Mediterranean fish soup.
28:33Normally, I'd been to...
28:34I like my homemade English food, but I like it.
28:38I always like going to the chipper, just giving me something big.
28:41So shall we get cracking?
28:42Yeah, let's get cracking.
28:43OK.
28:44So what I would like is a little bit of chopped onion.
28:49These have to be quartered.
28:50I'm glad I've got the tomatoes anyway, not the garlic.
28:53That's fine.
28:54Probably not chopping my finger off.
28:56Tanisha, do you do any cooking at home?
28:58I moved out quite young and I didn't know what I was doing.
29:02You know, you have to learn.
29:03You have to just figure it out.
29:05I try and it fails, but when it goes really good, I have this...
29:08I feel very proud of myself.
29:09My husband was a very good cook.
29:11Oh.
29:12And my partner's a very good cook.
29:13And now...
29:14So you...
29:15You're right.
29:16I've been very lucky with my men.
29:18I make a mean pasta that comes in a bag with a sauce that comes in a tin.
29:23Certainly did not think I'd end up in a kitchen, in a cookery class, making a fish, Maltese soup.
29:30Never.
29:31It's like, not for me.
29:33So, garlic, onion and tomatoes have gone in.
29:36And now the fish goes in.
29:40Now we need some herbs, quite important.
29:43It's a learning experience.
29:45I think Frandy, out of most of us, because he doesn't do the cooking at home.
29:49And then just let it simmer.
29:51And...
29:52Yes.
29:53That is it.
29:56What's your food?
29:57Well, growing up, my mum's very traditional English.
30:00Yeah.
30:01So we'd have, like, potato rash, egg chips and beans, things like that.
30:06Er, casseroles.
30:07Here she comes.
30:08Oh, wow.
30:09And Maureen's that excited.
30:10Here we go.
30:11This is going out to my three or four friends who would have had a postcard.
30:15I'll give this one to Maureen.
30:16Oh, OK.
30:17And I'll pass it over.
30:19I'm going to eat like a horse and no doubt look like one when I leave.
30:22Bon appetit.
30:23Bon appetit.
30:24Thank you very much.
30:25Mmm.
30:26Beautiful.
30:27Very delicate.
30:28This is a good one.
30:29This will be very hard for Andy to top.
30:30You did well, kid.
30:31That's just a great thing to do on holiday.
30:34But it's not quite everyone's meat and tooth edge.
30:36Oh, lovely bone.
30:37Do you want some more?
30:38All right, thank you.
30:39Save myself for a steak.
30:41It's just for me, like, she's put the whole fish in there.
30:45So the eyes are in there and everything on me.
30:47That's kind of, like, put me off a little bit.
30:49So you moved out from your home at...
30:52Just turned 18 I was.
30:53I lived with my grandparents for two years and now I live with Lucas.
30:57Do you think Lucas is the one?
30:58Lucas is the one.
30:59Of course he is.
31:00Is there a moment, Andy, where you knew Nick was the one?
31:03As soon as I got with her, I just kind of...
31:06I just got this feeling that she was the right one for me.
31:09She's just the perfect lady.
31:11She always have to mean I look after her.
31:13Don't cry.
31:14Don't cry.
31:15Just feel very, very lucky that I met someone like Nick.
31:19Oh, I see!
31:20Because who else would have you, let's face it.
31:22Who else would have you?
31:23And she's an amazing mum.
31:25I get really emotional when people are so, like, open about
31:28the people that they love and I don't know why.
31:33I just think it was really lovely, you know,
31:35the way that we all speak about our lives and our partners
31:38and how grateful we all are,
31:40I do think we have a lot more common ground
31:42than we might have thought.
31:44But it's been really nice.
31:46I really enjoyed it.
31:47Cheers.
31:48She's an impressive girl this day.
31:51It's fabulous.
31:58Now Maureen and Tanisha's days are done and dusted,
32:00it's all sunshine, snacks and suspiciously coordinated outfits.
32:04I have so much admiration for you for yesterday
32:08that I've actually dressed as you today.
32:10Well, this is it and we didn't even plan it.
32:12No, it's like women in a group.
32:13I love that.
32:14We just think...
32:15Glasses, earrings, hat.
32:18Andy, who clearly didn't get the matchy-matchy memo,
32:21is keen to pull out all the stops today.
32:25See, the last couple of days have been, like, good,
32:27but it's been very, very cultural.
32:29Yeah.
32:30I know I want to have a bit of fun, I want to get on the water,
32:31I love being on the water, so...
32:32Have you ever driven a vessel before?
32:34I would love to have captain me own boat.
32:36So there's a great little company here
32:38that actually hires out little speedboats, if you like.
32:40Oh, brilliant.
32:41Yeah, yeah.
32:42What do we think Andy's going to do?
32:43I notice the scuba-diving machine thing.
32:45You know, I'm not great on the water.
32:46I want to hear it and not feel it.
32:48I don't think I'd go in the sea, I'm too frightened of things.
32:51So Maureen got some traditional Maltese dancers,
32:53but I'm after something a bit more modern.
32:55I actually know the perfect place, Andy.
32:57I might have stumbled there myself on my night off,
32:59so from experience I can definitely tell you it's fabulous.
33:02Leave that with me, I'll get that sorted for you.
33:04Hoping he's on to a winner,
33:06Andy's asked Maureen and Tanisha to meet him at St George's Bay.
33:09It's a 20-minute drive from Valletta along Malta's rugged north-east coast,
33:13a popular spot for beach clubs and water sports,
33:16right up their streets.
33:17Oh, God, look. Look.
33:23Ahoy there, ladies!
33:25Come and have a ride with Captain Andy!
33:27Andy.
33:28Oh, Captain Andy!
33:29Captain, what are you wearing?
33:31Ta-da!
33:32Are we on that really rocky boat behind him?
33:34Yes.
33:35You'll be all right, you'll be all right.
33:37I saw it and wasn't a fan.
33:39Of course it's going to be a boat.
33:40Of course it is, it's Andy.
33:41We've done all the cultural stuff,
33:43and today is all about having fun.
33:45I love me cruising.
33:47You do.
33:48I'll never ever get to be a captain of a cruise ship,
33:50but today I get to be a captain!
33:53When it comes to, like, holidays,
33:54anything on the water I quite enjoy.
33:57Come on, Maureen, let me help you on.
33:59Right.
34:00Family, for me, is everything.
34:02Making memories is most important to us.
34:05I'm not doing very well here.
34:07Are we stuck?
34:09It's not going into reverse.
34:11We're stuck, aren't we?
34:13Yeah.
34:14Despite wanting to show the girls a good time,
34:16things are off to a rocky start for Captain Andy.
34:19Are we going to crash?
34:20Not at all.
34:21We're going to crash into one of these boats.
34:25Captain Andy.
34:26I won't say he was the best captain in the world.
34:28I thought he was going to crash into the jetty.
34:30And...
34:31I need to go back again there,
34:32and then we'll be all right.
34:35There you go.
34:36All right, here we go, guys.
34:37Yeah.
34:41This is your Captain Andrew speaking.
34:43What is the weather report for today, Captain?
34:45It looks very clear.
34:50Oh!
34:53How quick are we going to go?
34:54Yeah, I'm not too sure.
34:55All right.
34:56Oh, we're going out to the sea.
34:58I'm not going to be going full, yeah.
34:59I think we're going to the left.
35:00All right.
35:01I feel like I'm having a shower.
35:04I felt a bit sick.
35:05I was a little bit scared.
35:06I thought it was going to end up with him wanting us in the sea,
35:09and that is what I was most nervous for.
35:11Has it been worrying?
35:12I'm not really thinking at present, Andy.
35:14I'm just praying.
35:15This is really nice, Andy.
35:16You're praying.
35:20Can you hear me now?
35:21I'm on board.
35:22HMS frightened to death.
35:25I'm not that bad, Laurie.
35:26No, you're fine, you're fine.
35:27I'm not that bad.
35:31What is it that draws you to the sea?
35:38You're a Manchester lad.
35:40Yeah, well, to be honest,
35:41we went on our first cruise in 2016,
35:44and we absolutely loved it.
35:46In a week, in a week,
35:47you can go to, like, four different countries.
35:49Obviously, you get a nice weather,
35:50you get lovely food,
35:51and on the ones that we go on,
35:52sometimes there's got slides for the kids,
35:54and there's just so much to do.
35:56It really is like a floating hotel.
35:58I do admire Andy.
35:59I sound like a lovey, forgive me,
36:01but he's sort of sorted.
36:03He's got his wife and his kids,
36:04and he's a lovely lad.
36:06I've got to get in the water and have a bit of a dick.
36:08Denise, did you fancy getting in and having a swim?
36:11The sea really makes me nervous.
36:12Does it?
36:13I'm really not a fan of going in the sea.
36:14It is the fact that you can't touch the floor,
36:15and if you can touch the floor,
36:16I don't know what's around me.
36:17Oh, your heart is literally pounding now.
36:19I'm going to get in.
36:20OK, right, I'm going to pound the sea really, really quickly,
36:21and I'm going to get in.
36:22Three, two...
36:23I'm glad that I did it.
36:24It was an achievement.
36:25Wait a minute.
36:26It's the security of it, isn't it?
36:27It's just...
36:28People do this.
36:29Oh, boys!
36:30I had no idea if I was going to get in or not.
36:31I mean, it seems like absolutely nothing,
36:32but I'm not a good swimmer.
36:33I am either 78 or 79.
36:34I'm going to get in.
36:35Oh, your heart is literally pounding now.
36:36I'm going to get in.
36:37OK, right, I'm going to pound the sea really, really quickly,
36:38and I'm going to get in.
36:39Three, two, one!
36:40I'm glad that I did it.
36:43It was an achievement.
36:44Wait a minute.
36:45It's the security of it, isn't it?
36:47It's just...
36:48People do this.
36:49Oh, boys!
36:51I had no idea if I was going to get in or not.
36:54I mean, it seems like absolutely nothing,
36:56but I'm not a good swimmer.
36:58I am either 78 or 79.
37:00I've forgotten.
37:01Thank you very much.
37:02I hope you've enjoyed my first part of the day.
37:04No, not very much, no.
37:06No?
37:07It was lovely, refreshing.
37:08So, yeah, I'm quite pleased with myself about that.
37:10I'm not a very brave person.

38:07Three Corrie favourites have swapped Weatherfield for Malta,
38:10where they're trying to outdo each other
38:12to put on the best holiday adventure.
38:15Today, host Andy is hitting the tourist town of Sleema,
38:18just 15 minutes from Valletta, for some gift shopping,
38:21which is in no way a bribe for votes.
38:25I always like to buy something when I'm on my holiday,
38:27so I've got to get Maureen a present,
38:29and I think tomorrow.
38:30I think when we start discussing whose day was the best,
38:32hopefully it'll be mine.
38:36So what I want to do is I just want to go into a shop,
38:38get Maureen a nice little present.
38:40Wow, OK.
38:41Look in this one, this one looks all right.
38:42Oh, look at these.
38:45Vacation?
38:46No, get away from that Andy, that's no.
38:48OK.
38:49We're not doing that.
38:50I do like that one, but if Maureen...
38:52It's €5.
38:53That's not bad, that.
38:54But if Maureen's wearing that,
38:55she doesn't know that she's going to keep standing next to me.
38:57What do you think of this?
38:58Because we know that she likes a tipple.
39:00Andy, that's awful.
39:01It's awful, right?
39:02I hope that's awful.
39:07This is the one.
39:09What happens in Malta stays in Malta.
39:11Yeah?
39:12I think when I give her that,
39:13I think she'll be very, very happy with it.
39:14As well as being a great spot for shopping,
39:16the Sleema Promenade also gives uninterrupted views of Valletta.
39:21It's amazing.
39:22A view often seen on a postcard.
39:25Not many seaside resorts.
39:27I'll give you that.
39:28Certainly not Bridlington.
39:34Hello, Maureen.
39:35While you've been busy taking selfies,
39:36you and Tanisha have been shopping.
39:38Have you now?
39:39This is for you, Maureen.
39:40And I would like you to wear it with pride.
39:44With pride.
39:45Look at it.
39:46There it is.
39:47Maureen.
39:48Wow.
39:49You're an absolute star.
39:50Look at it.
39:51I knew you'd like it.
39:52A vision in pink.
39:53I knew you'd like it.
39:54It's lovely that you should buy me anything,
39:56let alone anything as exquisite as this.
40:00Go with the flow, you know.
40:03These are gorgeous people and they've wasted a whole afternoon.
40:07In the words of Mel Brooks, you can improve on perfection.
40:12So I've got one more surprise for you.
40:14Is it something cultural?
40:16Unfortunately not.
40:18But I think you're going to enjoy yourself.
40:20Shall we go?
40:21Let's go.
40:22It's extraordinary that in three days you can feel so close to people.
40:28Are you?
40:29Just new as, you know.
40:31Morning, do you want a brew?
40:33Yeah.
40:34Nice.
40:35A very salubrious area here.
40:37It is.
40:38Beginning to...
40:39Do you know what?
40:40I really, really feel like a drink.
40:43So if you take a seat, ladies.
40:46Simon, what do you want a drink?
40:48What are you having?
40:49Something strong.
40:50While Andy's hoping his final activity will see him win the title,
40:54Maureen is planning her own great escape.
40:58So do you not want to be here?
41:00I don't know.
41:01I'm just admiring the plastic foliage.
41:03Such a snob.
41:05Is this not your vibe?
41:06I don't know.
41:07I'll, you know, I'll give it the time of day.
41:09Here we go, ladies.
41:10Oh, here's the main map.
41:11Wow.
41:12If you didn't have any champagne, but...
41:13Oh, it'll do.
41:14I've got you a parrot punch.
41:16What is that?
41:19Cheers.
41:20And I don't want to sound like a spoilt brat,
41:23but late-night bopping.
41:24It's not a natural state for me, put it that way.
41:27What you might not know about me,
41:29the last two years of high school and college,
41:31I used to go busking in Manchester
41:33to earn a bit of, like, dinner money for college and stuff.
41:36Did you?
41:37Yeah, yeah.
41:38I can just picture a small Andy.
41:39Yeah.
41:40The mad thing was, a couple of lads came up to us and said,
41:43we're in a band, would you like to join them?
41:45We actually had about...
41:47We probably had about 20 of our own songs.
41:49Wow.
41:50But we never, unfortunately, we never got signed.
41:51So that's when I just thought,
41:53I need to just concentrate on my acting now.
41:54So, top and tail of it is,
41:56this pub happens to have karaoke.
41:58Oh, shock, horror.
42:00So I thought we'd have a drink.
42:01Yeah.
42:02I love it.
42:03We'd go inside.
42:04Yeah.
42:05And I'd love to sing on the karaoke.
42:06What do you reckon?
42:07How about you sing first, second and third?
42:09Remember?
42:10Yeah.
42:11What happens in Malta stays in Malta.
42:12Stays in Malta.
42:13Don't forget the rest of your drink.
42:15I won't, don't worry.
42:17I will need something very strong to get me through this, Andy.
42:20There we go.
42:21Oh!
42:22Oh, yes!
42:23Oh, happy day!
42:24Yay!
42:25You know, there's a lot going on in that man.
42:29He's full of soul.
42:30It's Andy's turn.
42:32My turn.
42:33Oh, here he is.
42:34What's he going to sing?
42:35One, Andy.
42:37All the way from Manchester to Malta,
42:39it's Mr Brightside himself, Andy Wyman.
42:42Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine.
42:46Gotta, gotta be down because I want it all.
42:49Started out with a kiss.
42:50How did it end up like this?
42:52It was only a kiss.
42:53It was only a kiss.
42:55Sometimes you can be a bit sniffy about things,
42:58but actually if you just go with the flow,
43:01go with the moment and admire.
43:04I never...
43:08And again.
43:10I never...
43:15And then one more time.
43:16I never thought my life would see me singing karaoke
43:19with Maureen Litman.
43:20No.
43:21I never...
43:26There you go!
43:27Thank you very much!
43:28Yeah!
43:29I got us thinking a bit of Mr Brightside.
43:31The one song that I never thought I would see us sing,
43:34which is brilliant.
43:35Fabulous, Andy.
43:36Very good.
43:37Very good.
43:38I've never felt so antiquated, but I loved it.
43:43Amazing!
43:44Thank you, ladies.
43:45So good.
43:46Thank you very much.
43:47Oh, I forgot my drink.
43:48Oh, don't forget that.
43:49I'm really, really pleased with my day.
43:51Even if I don't win, I've enjoyed it,
43:53and I think the girls have enjoyed it as well.
43:55Some seeds.
43:56I've had a great time.
43:57Thank you for sharing my day.
43:58Yeah.
43:59It's the final morning for the Corrie gang,
44:05and after sharing their idea of a perfect day in Malta,
44:10with a few bribes along the way,
44:12all that remains is to decide the winner.
44:15Didn't do a lot to charm the ladies yesterday,
44:17and I am quite confident that I'll win.
44:20I don't think I deserve to win,
44:22but that's not what this is about.
44:23This is actually about friendship and being buddies.
44:26Here you go, Tanisha.
44:27Thank you very much.
44:29Oh, look at that.
44:30I think we've all got a little bit of a smidge chance of winning.
44:33To the entire...
44:34Oh, we get all serious.
44:36Yeah.
44:37I have a little something.
44:38I have sorted out getting our items that we've blown
44:42from the glassblowing class.
44:44Did I blow that?
44:45Yes.
44:46You did blow that.
44:47With your very own lips.
44:48That's fantastic.
44:50Oh, look at this.
44:51Oh!
44:52Oh, wow.
44:53Look at the colours.
44:54Look at that.
44:55I will show you mine as well.
44:57Oh, I saw.
44:58My bowl.
44:59I like that.
45:00I did want a bit of a bribe to cast a vote over to my side.
45:03Day one, Maureen's day.
45:04How did we find it, Tanisha?
45:06We got the gondolas.
45:07Oh, how romantic.
45:09How romantic, the three of us.
45:11Thought I was going to be sick.
45:12You mostly thought you were going to be sick every day, didn't you?
45:14Yeah, pretty much.
45:15But we can look past that.
45:17Yeah.
45:18Because I really did enjoy it.
45:19We spoke a lot about you and your life, which was very, very good to know.
45:23I've got to say, I'm not really into the historical side of a holiday, but I think I've learned that you are.
45:30I think you taught us very well about the history.
45:32History doesn't have to be dull, does it?
45:34If you took, took your time, which you did.
45:36If you took, took your time.
45:37Very true.
45:38Very true.
45:39And the speedboat, you showed your skills off as a leader.
45:42And I've loved, absolutely loved spending time with you.
45:45Tanisha, the pièce de résistance, the soup, what's not to like?
45:50We got to know a little bit more about how, like, you know, the way we think of the people that we love.
45:54I love that.
45:55I love that.
45:56So come on and put me out of my misery.
45:58Yeah.
45:59What are you voting for?
46:00Purely on what I would like to do on holiday and enjoy more, we're going to have to vote for my grandmother, mother and sister.
46:08I can't vote for myself, so I will be voting for you.
46:14With special commendation for the light of both of our lives.
46:18So that automatically means that I've got no votes.
46:22So thank you both.
46:23I enjoyed both days, but I have to go for Maureen's day.
46:26Oh, well done. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
46:30That's fantastic. Lippmann wins another award.
46:33Very happy that I did win.
46:35I will treasure this lack of award for the rest of my life.
46:38I'd like to thank my maker.
46:40Next time I see you in the green room, you say to me, do you want to brew?
46:44Try to remember who you are.
46:46I think we've definitely bonded this week.
46:48I really do think that we'll be making the effort to teach other outside of work,
46:51because we've never really done that before.
46:53I just can't help but look at us as a very dysfunctional family.
46:58Us being very different ages, I've learnt so much.
47:01I feel like Maureen's learnt a little bit from me about the younger generation,
47:04so I'll take that one.
47:06I've let you into the secrets of my insanity.
47:09I think we have bonded, and I think we will meet up over the remaining years that I have,
47:14and I think we'll have something special that we didn't have before.
47:18Would we do it again?
47:20No.
47:21Oh, sorry, was that a rhetorical question?
47:23.
47:54Pool dipping?
47:55Or margarita sipping?
47:57Darling, hold my hand!
