00:01is there anything more satisfying and exciting than being on holiday well yes a bargain holiday
00:12of course getting champagne tastes for your beer budget but is that possible when even the average
00:20UK holiday costs more than 1200 quid for just five days from all-inclusive to long-haul or
00:29short breaks i want the inside track on the best way to find a bargain to do that i've persuaded
00:38a
00:38crack squad of experts to spill their secrets insiders who've worked at the heart of the holiday
00:44industry at some of the biggest companies in the business i've spent more than 20 years working for
00:51different airlines such as british airways and klm i work for companies including thomas cook
00:56tui and easier holidays and the country's leading brands knock knock will take me behind closed doors
01:03this is where the magic happens from hotels and holiday operators to airlines travel agencies
01:11and even cruise lines they're sharing their travel industry tricks to holidaying better for less
01:23this time i'm going all in on that oh so indulgent all singing all dancing holiday the all-inclusive
01:35all-inclusive getaways have exploded in popularity in recent years
01:40in 2025 alone around 15 million of us booked one for me they're the ultimate holiday to just switch
01:49off your mind but the big question is how to get the best deal i've got insider intel on why
01:58hotels want
01:59you to stay longer despite free-flowing food and drink you're not costing me anything so it goes straight
02:05to profit i'm going to reveal the secret to booking for less just the other day i booked a whole
02:11holiday
02:12through my phone i'll go behind the scenes at an all-inclusive kitchen but it's freezing in here it's
02:18freezing are we in a fridge find out how to get the most out of the buffet oh that's a
02:24really good tip
02:27and i'll uncover the best destination dupes for your dream holiday you can have an amazing all-inclusive
02:33stay without having to spend a fortune who doesn't love an all-inclusive holiday bookings have
02:44increased by over 60 percent in the last decade there are now more than 2 000 resorts spread across 77
02:52countries and the competition is hotting up i'm julia labue saeed i'm the ceo of the advantage travel
03:01partnership we have 750 locations across the uk 40 of everything that you know we're seeing being sold
03:07is on an all-inclusive basis so the popularity means that hotels are really trying to ensure that
03:13they can meet customer expectation they're adapting their operations to be able to deliver
03:18an all-inclusive option because it's what the consumer wants my name is sylvia gambert i'm a seasoned
03:25hotelier with over two decades experience in the hotel industry we know the guests wants to come in
03:32they want a relaxing week or two they want a headache free holiday so from the consumer side is it's
03:39quite
03:39an easy sell i pay up front i know what i'm going to get i know what's included it's good
03:46news for us
03:47and even better news for holiday companies they get all our cash up front all inclusives have a great
03:55business model we know our peak business we know when our demand is coming in we know our summers are
04:01going to be busy um so operationally we can plan for our supplies we can plan our labor which makes
04:07us a lot more cost efficient they've nailed their costs but how do we keep ours down booking a holiday
04:15has changed hugely over the years it used to be that you would walk into a travel agent and then
04:21it became booking on a desktop then on a laptop and now people can book through their phones back in
04:28the day hotels advertised set rates in brochures but with the rise of the internet fixed prices disappeared
04:37internet has changed the complete industry the way that we distribute our inventory our rooms
04:44into the market so it was like a massive change for the industry today there are countless ways to book
04:52your all-inclusive holiday online and just as many different price tags 30 years ago our pricing
04:59strategies were so fixed so we have three prices per year low medium and high season new technology
05:07came to the industry and helped us to dynamize the pricing strategy of hotels the complexity of hotel
05:15pricing is a whole area because a consumer can book in a multitude of ways from a guest perspective oh
05:23it's simple it's just a website but no there's different types of websites so you've got the the
05:29regular websites the expedias of the world and the booking.coms of the world
05:34you've got travel agency sites you've got tour operators giving you the all-inclusive packages
05:40from a hotel perspective these are all different channels each channel is it is particular in its way
05:48each channel behaves differently each channel costs differently so when we come to price we need to know
05:55who is at the other side of the laptop how do they like to book
06:01fusaten way is in charge of revenue for port hotels in spain
06:06among other things she keeps a close eye on the all-inclusive bookings
06:11we always observe and analyze when we receive the channel report where the source of bookings are coming
06:17not only can thusar see which website we're on when we make a booking she can also tell which device
06:24we're using every guest can access from different devices mobile or the tablet or a traditional laptop
06:32we have a webpage we can analyze that which device we are getting the bookings
06:35and that's where it starts to get interesting data from thuzar software and thousands of others like
06:44it show a significant trend we are increasingly likely to convert from just looking to actually
06:52booking when we're on our phones mobile device conversion is very high 60 70 percent we have to
07:00follow the trend not to miss out any traffic or conversion we have to be always available and
07:06visible in front of the mobile user and often being visible means offering a mobile only discount to
07:14make it even more likely that those of us on our phones click reserve in fact some of the biggest
07:20travel websites actively encourage hotels to offer mobile only prices one of the most well-known is
07:27booking.com which actually encourages its hotels to offer discounts to customers booking via the mobile
07:35on their website booking.com tells hoteliers that you can increase your bookings from mobile devices by
07:42up to 30 percent by offering special mobile rates right let's put this to the test
07:52okay this all-inclusive holiday in turkey is 4058 pounds on booking.com on my laptop so now let's do
08:06the same search on my phone
08:11wow this is the same hotel a family of four all food and drink included and it's nearly a grand
08:22less over 20 percent lower on my phone these mobile prices are only visible if you're using your phone so
08:32if like me you normally book your holidays on your laptop or your desktop you will have
08:38no idea that they even exist they may lower the prices a little bit to make sure you know to
08:44lure you
08:45in to say come on it's super easy and you'll save money by doing it this way i believe that
08:50the reason
08:51why people are incentivized to book via mobile is because holiday companies want to change the
08:57perception of booking a holiday and they want to make the business of booking a holiday much more
09:05casual than it used to be i mean just the other day i booked a whole holiday through my phone
09:10which i
09:10never would have done just a few years ago and the more casual that holiday companies can make it
09:18the more likely that people are going to book more holidays so before you hit book on your all-inclusive
09:25double check the deal on your phone and if it's still looking a bit steep don't worry here's another
09:32great tip believe it or not how you book as a consumer is a big implication on pricing every way
09:40a
09:40consumer books a hotel costs the hotel money from our perspective it's cheaper for me to sell to you
09:47direct than for you to book on a site where i have to pay commission which means there's room for
09:53bargaining so please don't be shy a top tip call the hotel bargain with them ask if they can't do
10:02they can't price match maybe they can give you a value add maybe upgrade your room you might be
10:09thinking that's a bit cringe and i agree but the message from the holiday insiders is clear they
10:17want us to get on the blower because they want our business coming up hidden extras and how to avoid
10:26them they will be looking to maximize their revenue by having the hotel as full as they possibly can
10:32selling extras where they can plus how to decide whether to go all in or not maybe a water a
10:39soft
10:40drink and a coffee you've gone bust oh you've already gone first
10:51we've seen how you can bag a bargain by checking for mobile only discounts but how can you be sure
10:57all
10:57inclusive is better value than paying for everything separately hotelier sylvia gambert can understand
11:04the attraction to us of an all-inclusive without even doing the hard maths the first biggest value
11:11is that i know my upfront cost i know that i'm going to pay one price everything's included so it
11:18removes
11:19that worry and that gray area at the end and it's that's a great thing to have all-inclusive is
11:26a
11:26holiday style so it really suits people who actually want to budget they don't want to think about
11:33bringing extra spending money that's what the all-inclusive is for so is it really worth paying
11:40for it all up front or do you end up paying more just for convenience to go all in or
11:46not to go all in
11:47that is the question my name is chelsea dickinson and i am a holiday expert especially when it comes
11:58to getting the best value for money really do have a think about how much you would normally consume on
12:05a regular holiday break down the cost and make sure it's actually worth it for you
12:12fortunately for us chelsea and her partner james have done a road test they both checked into a
12:18five-star resort in lanzarote for 24 hours chelsea paid 36 pounds 40 for the all-inclusive package
12:26whereas james is staying at the same hotel eating and drinking the same things but paying as he goes
12:32so if we were to eat you can do the same thing for 24 hours he'll have got the best
12:36deal after one
12:38day james ended up spending more than three times what chelsea paid for her package
12:44in this case going all-in was worth it but what if you start comparing the food and drink prices
12:51inside the hotel with those outside the hotel at local restaurants
12:58the all-inclusive doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be cheaper because in some destinations
13:04if you look at turkey as an example if you look at a lot of north african destinations
13:08actually when you're eaten out it's much cheaper you like to experience a local destination and
13:14therefore let me have a think about actually would it be cheaper to eat out but how can you really
13:20tell
13:21what things will cost in your destination luckily chelsea's back to help me figure it out i thought
13:28we would play a little game you could you could call it i've got five pounds for you five pounds
13:35thank you okay that's for you and i'm gonna say the name of a city right and you're gonna let
13:41me know
13:42from the items in front of us we've got a cola we've got a water we've got a cappuccino
13:47and a bottle of beer i want you to tell me what you think you could get for that five
13:52pounds okay
13:53let's start with santo domingo where is santo domingo dominican republic maybe a water a soft drink
14:01can i get a coffee you can wow yeah your money goes a bit further than you think perhaps wow
14:09i
14:09thought it would be more expensive actually i was just chancing my arm let's go for a country that's
14:14known for being quite affordable thailand phuket i've been to thailand many times but long time ago
14:23could you get one of each almost almost i feel like we're getting close to it but no unfortunately
14:31it is just the soft drink the water and the cappuccino so actually phukets and santo domingo
14:40are not dissimilar it's a bit cheaper but you're actually right in terms of the comparison isn't
14:46as much as what you'd probably think it is wow that's really interesting yeah have you got time
14:53for one more of course okay let's try tunis in tunisia what do you think you'd be able to afford
15:01for
15:01a fiver there's got to be somewhere where you can buy all four for a fiver are you going for
15:07it go on
15:07you're right we've got there we've made it we've made it to a place where you would have change from
15:14a fiver even if you bought all of these four items on our fridge that is fantastic when you compare
15:21it
15:21to some of the other locations and remember these are just the average prices you could find these items
15:27for even less a few years ago when i went i actually managed to get beer for 27p yeah 27p
15:35do
15:35you remember much of that holiday no i don't so if you're thinking about booking an all-inclusive and
15:42it's looking pretty pricey always check what the average food and drink prices look like locally
15:48you can do that by heading to a website called numbio a global cost of living index
15:56or by looking at the post office's annual holiday money report which compares prices across popular
16:02destinations but if you're like me you're probably thinking if i'm going all-inclusive i'm going all
16:11out i'll probably eat and drink twice as much at least as i would if i were paying for it
16:18all separately
16:21right us brits love an all-inclusive and i think it's thanks to the unlimited nature of it if we
16:28wanted to get a fifth ice cream we absolutely can and ultimately we think it means we're getting an
16:34absolute bargain and there's no better feeling than that so if we're going to eat and drink all
16:41the time how do resorts make money from us we know that guests are going to indulge we know the
16:49percentage of guests that over indulge versus the average uh user and we can manage that because one
16:56balances out the other in fact despite free-flowing food and drink hotels want us to stay as long as
17:04possible hotels love guests that stay longer one key reason is that over time our behavior tends to
17:12shift the longer that you stay we get itchy uh we get curious so why not take uh dinner out
17:19tonight
17:20and research has shown that actually the likelihood the longer that you stay you will leave the resort
17:26at some stage and every missed meal is a saving for the hotel if you didn't have the lunch or
17:34you
17:34didn't have the dinner that's fantastic because um service-wise it's it eases up on the service
17:40um cost-wise uh it goes straight to you're not costing me anything so it goes straight to profit
17:47to get the best value from your all-inclusive book a shorter stay rather than a longer one
17:54but let's go one step further if you're going to eat all your food in the free restaurants
18:02then i want to know what goes into making the food and all-inclusive and how can we make sure
18:08we're getting the best value for our money
18:16i'm going behind the scenes of an all-inclusive kitchen in spain david nice to meet you nice to
18:22meet you you're welcome to thank you i must say a warm welcome from you but it's freezing in here
18:29it's freezing are we in a fridge you're freezing because you are in the garden manger the garden
18:33manger is the place where we preparing all the cold food and meats of the hotels i mean i actually
18:41never even thought about the fact that you've got these huge quantities of food you can't keep them
18:46all in a fridge when you're preparing them so you actually have to work in the fridge yes of course
18:52you
18:52know this is the thing that most visitors to the hotel will never get to see is what's going on
18:58behind the scenes in the kitchen so can you describe what it's like does it ever get sort of heated
19:04or
19:04stressful or is it just very well usually no you know the teamwork is very important how many people
19:12do you have here on the team it depends on the amount of the year but usually we have 30
19:1835 people
19:19working seriously in our kitchen because we have to serve 700 breakfast 300 lunch and 700 dinners and the
19:30team 35 people are able to serve 700 meals in one sitting yes with with 35 members of the team
19:41it doesn't
19:42seem enough we work with the forecast we know how many people we have for each service so it's
19:49easier it's easier it's easy for it's easier so do you know roughly what the hotel budgets per person
19:57for the all-inclusive per day well you know our customer will usually stay in the hotel five day
20:03minimal okay for the all-inclusive for the all-inclusive and price per person 42 euros for person
20:11per day for all-inclusive for all-inclusive with drinks with drinks and it includes you
20:19the breakfast the lunch dinner and the snacks with the ice cream coffee time
20:27and i mean that's that's just blown my mind because when you think about if you were to go
20:33out for one meal you would easily spend that just for one meal wouldn't you yes
20:42this is my first time behind the scenes in an all-inclusive kitchen and actually i'm so surprised
20:49because you'd expect it to be really stressful complete pandemonium but everything's very
20:53organized very chilled and i think they have to run quite a tight ship to be able to work with
20:59those
20:59margins because actually for the customer it's incredible value for money when you think about
21:06what you would spend on holiday on food drinks snacks ice creams and you're getting it all included it's
21:13a steal it may be calm and collected behind the scenes out in the buffet though it's usually another story
21:24with so much choice all free it's hard not to go overboard but the best way to get your money's
21:32worth
21:33isn't to pile your plate sky high the smartest move is to treat an all-inclusive buffet like a tasting
21:40menu
21:40not a challenge step one do a recon lap
21:46there is one hack i would say before you put anything on your plate
21:49do a walk around make sure you see everything because sometimes you start off with the least
21:54exciting things and then by the time you get to the exciting thing you're like well there's too much
21:58on my plate now you have to walk around first see everything that's there mentally build a picture
22:02of what i want to eat and then go for it step two think like a chef
22:09now this may have been just a bit of fun for chelsea and james but there is a good reason
22:15to plate your food thoughtfully hi nice to meet you i'm meeting professor barry smith an expert in
22:23the psychology behind our food choices he's going to tell me how to get maximum pleasure from my all
22:29inclusive smash and grabs we eat first with our eyes you say that looks delicious and even in the
22:36buffet it's spread out in a way that's attractive so don't undo all that work by piling everything on
22:42the same plate in a haphazard way i have to say i have been guilty of piling far too many
22:49things on
22:49my plate at a buffet because if i see something that i know i like i'll get some of that
22:55so i might put
22:55some pasta and then i'll go down and think oh there's a curry i'll have a bit of that as
22:59well
23:00and then you know oh some chips of course so rather than piling your plate high with all different
23:05foods how would you approach it we we have to be our own chefs as it were and think what
23:10what's the
23:11right menu here so when you're at a buffet you can think okay what am i going to have for
23:15my starter
23:16and just choose something and have that what am i going to have for my main course i think it's
23:20better
23:21to put things on different plates rather than to have the one plate piled high because you don't
23:26necessarily want all those things together as you said oh quite quite fancy a little bit of curry
23:30you know they've got some pasta as well well you know not on the same plate please put them on
23:35a
23:35different plate and then you can say i'll try this i'll try that i'm ashamed of myself arrange it in
23:40such a way as it would be attractive if you were offering that plate to someone else oh that's a
23:45really good tip so imagine you are plating up a lovely meal in a restaurant for someone else
23:51that's such a good idea i love that i'm going to definitely try that
23:58so lesson learned think like a chef to really feel the benefit of your bargain banquet treat it as a
24:06thing of beauty not the leaning tower of buffet coming up the secrets of resort extras all-inclusives
24:16aren't always what they say on the tin and how to get those caribbean vibes without the price tag
24:21that's a saving of nearly 1400 pounds
24:32i'm on a mission to bring you the best tricks to get a good deal on your all-inclusive holiday
24:39we've uncovered the hidden deals on your mobile phone and tips to make that all-in buffet work in
24:45your favor now what about all those hidden extras despite the name the all-inclusive holiday very rarely
24:55is all-inclusive the common pitfalls of an all-inclusive holiday are expecting that absolutely
25:07everything is included in the price it might not be all-inclusive aren't always what they say on the
25:13tin they don't always include everything don't think just because it's an all-inclusive that
25:18everything will be included so what might be excluded from an all-inclusive snacks between meals
25:25the a la carte restaurants child's club cocktails as well tower rental speciality restaurants sports
25:31and activities bar treatments the safety deposit boxes in their room premium labels of course this
25:38is perfectly legal so long as it's stated up front for hotels it's just a simple revenue strategy
25:46any organization i guess and hotels are no different is actually how do you maximize revenue
25:51from your consumer so you know the industry actually works on the basis of it generally only makes
25:57money at the peak summer periods so they will be looking to maximize their revenue by having the
26:02hotel as full as they possibly can selling extras where they can we're always trying to sell you
26:07something because we're we're in the business to making you happy giving you a different service but
26:13we're also in the in the business of making profit and thanks to our holiday mindset we're often more
26:19receptive to this kind of upselling by the time the guest comes to the resort uh you've paid off your
26:28holiday uh you barely remember what you've booked research has actually shown that because the the
26:36customer and the the booking behavior of booking in advance and the paying off in advance takes place
26:42they're more inclined to actually spend or upgrade themselves when they are at the hotel
26:48because they are relaxed from a hotel perspective this is an opportunity for us because we want you
26:54to experience all that we have to offer so it's it's a time where the customer perhaps is in the
27:03the perfect mindset to be let me treat myself and hoteliers know far more about how we like to treat
27:12ourselves than you might imagine data is key we we are very dependent on our data because data has
27:21evolved we have so much so much in software and technology in our hotels more than the regular consumer
27:28that thinks and data has really helped us identify our customers who they are where they are what they
27:36like what they don't like because if we look at where you're spending money in the hotel then we can
27:43be
27:43smarter so just every single element within a hotel is monitored by the data one thing the data makes clear
27:51is that offering free tasters is a highly effective way to tempt us into buying more we can offer in
27:59one of the packages a 30-minute massage we can offer a wine tasting we can probably offer a half
28:06an hour with
28:07a golf pro why don't you do a gym training session all included in your package when you have a
28:15guest try
28:16something and they really enjoy it they'll go back for it they'll come back for it they will try that
28:22bottle of wine that they had a wine tasting they will purchase it again they will go back to the
28:28spa
28:28now now that they've tried a massage they might have a facial we help you treat yourself better
28:35but at the same time it makes us a lot more profitable because we're selling you additional elements
28:43so some of those free experiences you're offered are often clever sales opportunities in disguise
28:52now there's nothing wrong with a few optional extras after all if you're not playing tennis
28:57or going to the spa why should you pay for it in your package but some all-inclusive resorts
29:03really do push their luck when it comes to extras if something looks too good to be true ask yourself
29:11why
29:13joe rhodes is a travel investigator for consumer champions which she's been holding companies to
29:20account for over eight years so we survey our members to basically find out their experiences from
29:30their holidays and we looked at all inclusive holiday providers specifically and what's actually
29:37included is really important so how much did the surveyed holiday makers fork out on unexpected extras
29:44when we averaged it out by couple it was around 238 pounds for a week that they were spending on
29:53extras
29:54if you compare that 238 pounds to the average cost of an all-inclusive holiday
30:00say in spain which comes in at around two and a half thousand per couple that's almost 10 percent of
30:08the entire holiday cost and remember 238 pounds was just the average
30:14in some cases the extras added up to well over 300 pounds per couple
30:23getaways booked through budget online travel agents were especially prone to hidden costs what seems
30:30like a bargain at first could end up being a false economy because once you add in all the extras
30:36the
30:37deal may not be so cheap after all online travel sites are of course well within their rights to sell
30:44low-cost all-inclusives and they often do so by striking different deals with hotels about what
30:50the package includes but how can you make sure you know exactly what you're getting and avoid any
30:57extra ordinary surprises on your holiday my big tip would always be check the fine print have a look at
31:05the small print see what's included really drill down to the things that you want to do and see if
31:10that's provided as part of your package it is so important to be reading the small print about
31:15actually what is included in the bundle that you're paying for i think it's fair to say our experts agree
31:21on how to avoid paying over the odds and chelsea's got another smart trick to share my top tips for
31:29spotting those hidden fees when it comes to all-inclusives is to go on to either trip advisor or google
31:36reviews and they have a really clever function where you can actually search for keywords within the
31:41reviews so what i always do is i search for the words charge hidden fee tips even and see what
31:49the
31:49people who have actually stayed there already are saying about it you can bet if someone feels fobbed
31:55off they will have put it in a review another thing to be aware of some hotels impose a curfew
32:03on their
32:03free drinks usually at around 11 pm so once the clock strikes anything you order from the bar or nightclub
32:10can have an extra charge and in some destinations there are even limits on how many free alcoholic
32:17drinks you can have in a day take mallorca and ibiza for example in some resorts there are local
32:23government rules designed to curb anti-social behavior which means you're restricted to six
32:29alcoholic drinks a day three with lunch and three with your evening meal
32:39coming up where to find the best destination dupes for your dream getaway if you wanted a bit of a
32:46caribbean holiday why not swap it out actually and save absolute thousands and why airports are getting in
32:53on the all-inclusive game airport lounges are very much on the rise and it's a high margin business
33:07we love an all-inclusive holiday in fact almost half of us enjoyed one last summer but in some
33:15destinations an all-inclusive getaway can cost a small fortune especially those bucket list trips to
33:22the maldives or the caribbean luckily there's a way to make a luxury escape affordable
33:30if you know you're going to be locked in and you are just going to go and relax for a
33:35week or two weeks
33:36it's all about the beach and the pool and the hotel then the destination a pricey destination is
33:43is not the biggest aspect of your trip so shop around look at other destinations that might be more
33:51economical remember if you really are after that fly and flop holiday where you don't intend to leave
33:58the resorts you're gonna have all the food the drinks the all-inclusive on offer to you it doesn't
34:04really matter that much where you are so why not choose a cheaper destination this trend is known as
34:11destination dupes whether it be in a beauty line in a perfume line you know people get dupes
34:17a cheaper option of something that is more expensive and you get that within the travel industry
34:22so where are those destination dupes not everybody can afford to go to the maldives but actually there
34:30could be a beach in another part of the world closer to home that has beautiful sea beautiful sand and
34:36actually it becomes an alternative for consumers to want to think about if you are looking to have a really
34:43great experience do you really need to go long haul we have europe on our doorstep i think there are
34:51lots of places that you might not necessarily think of in the south of europe generally as a band
34:56that have gorgeous beautiful beaches where you're just like wow this water here is incredible which
35:02is what people are looking for and traveling all across the world to go fine there are lots of resorts
35:08and hoteliers that are trying to build that maldivesville the over the water villas the over
35:12the water bungalows on the beach you're seeing a lot of that come through in greek islands i've read a
35:18lot about these destination dupes but i've always been wary because if i fancy a nice weekend in paris
35:28say i'm not just going to swap it for budapest it's a longer flight for one thing but with all
35:35-inclusive
35:36holidays where the best way to get value for money is to stay mainly in the resort destination dupes can
35:44really work if you're a fan of the maldives palawan in the philippines is often suggested as a very
35:52similar setting try bulgaria instead of spain or follow the instagram crowd to albania though it is
36:02at seeing record levels of tourism so just bear in mind you're unlikely to be alone another great
36:09place to look for destination dupes is africa for example if you wanted a bit of a caribbean holiday
36:16why not swap it out actually for senegal and save absolute thousands all-inclusive package holidays to
36:24senegal only became available to us when tui launched its first direct flight from gatwick in 2022
36:31both senegal and the caribbean have around 3 000 hours of sunshine each year which is twice as much
36:39as in the uk but how do the resorts in these countries compare i'm looking at the same hotel
36:47brand in both countries one in the dominican republic and another one in senegal i mean these hotel rooms
36:56look remarkably similar so for a family of four all-inclusive plus flights it's six thousand seven
37:04hundred and forty one pounds for a holiday in the dominican republic or five thousand three hundred and
37:12forty five pounds for the one in senegal that's a saving of nearly one thousand four hundred pounds i mean
37:20you could pay for another person with that and if you're after a dupe for those classic european
37:27all-inclusives africa has one of those too if you're after an underrated destination for an all-inclusive
37:34i think you can't go wrong with tunisia tunisia is a fantastic destination just outside of europe that is
37:43still on the mediterranean and you have a lot of the same kind of beach vibe but for much cheaper
37:49and much fewer crowds and then if you're interested in roman ruins you can instead go to carthage in
37:56tunisia plus it's just a three-hour flight away also the price is so good it's really affordable
38:04and you can have an amazing all-inclusive stay without having to spend a fortune
38:10simon and sharda from birmingham have booked an all-inclusive in tunisia
38:16i think we paid about 800 pounds each that includes flight transfers food everything quite a generous
38:25luggage allowance as well so and yeah everything's included in that price so yeah brilliant looking at
38:31that you're actually feeling the warmth you're seeing the ocean you just the vibes are there
38:36absolute vibe so was the holiday a success the weather has stayed perfect for us the temperature
38:45is still in the 30s which was lovely it was really nice so yeah we've had a great time roll
38:50on the next
38:51holiday
38:56an all-inclusive holiday is about as low stress as it gets little wonder we spend billions on them each
39:04year and our appetite to go all in could explain why we're offered that experience at the airport
39:14airport lounges offer a single price to get in and then it's eat and drink as much as you want
39:19a little bit of all-inclusive before we even get on the plane so is an all-inclusive experience at
39:27an
39:27airport lounge good value to understand why airports are getting in on the all-inclusive game you've got
39:34to know how airports themselves do business when you're passing through an airport you don't pay to
39:41use it so how do they make their money it's fair to say in the past airports made their money
39:47out of
39:47the charges they levied on airlines for landing planes for handling customers but increasingly
39:52that's not the case airports are relying more and more on income from non-aviation sources which
39:59includes everything from parking to retail to lounges and our appetite for an all-inclusive means lounges
40:07can be very lucrative airport lounges are very much on the rise and it's a high margin business
40:15airports airports and a number of handling agencies realize that there is money to be made from this
40:20from offering a good product so we're seeing an increasing choice of lounges available to customers
40:25at more airports today people often relaxed especially before their holiday they get their wallet out more
40:30willingly and airports want to take advantage of that they may once have been the preserve of business
40:37class travelers but now some are open to anyone who's prepared to pay
40:45south end airport has a lounge just one of several thousand across the globe it's a market worth over
40:53three billion today and set to more than double by 2029 and to find out how the business of airport
41:00lounges work i'm meeting a man who spent his entire career working on the business side of airports
41:08nigel mays how important are the extra things at the airport for example retail or restaurants
41:17parking the lounge it's really really important for the airport if you look at airports across europe
41:2340 of their revenues are typically made through car parking food and beverage lounges what we would
41:30call non-aeronautical revenue 40 percent yeah that's absolutely huge i hope you don't mind me
41:37saying but this is quite a small airport why do you have a lounge we have a lounge because i
41:44think
41:44there's an expectation as a london airport that we have a premium lounge offering we encourage people
41:50to come two and a half hours before their flights to come and use the food and drinks that are
41:56on offer
41:56there you could do quite a lot of damage to that buffet in two and a half hours couldn't you
42:00if they want to come in and enjoy themselves and eat lots of ad buffet then they'll be more than
42:06welcome it's nice and quiet so we have businessmen that will come and work from that space or we'll
42:12have customers that just want a special experience so it sounds like people go to the lounge for lots
42:17of different reasons how do they normally go in do they have a pass or does it come as part
42:22of your
42:22ticket you'll pay a fee you can book online you can book a package with a fast track for with
42:27the
42:27security or you can just book to come into the lounge what's the fee then to get in is it
42:32a flat
42:33fee for everyone it's around it's just under 40 pounds depending on which airport you're at lounge
42:39access is typically between 30 and 50 pounds so how much would you have to consume in an airport pub
42:47to hit this kind of price tag for example an aperol spritz followed by a chicken tikka masala with a
42:56pint of
42:57beer and to finish it all off a pudding and a coffee will set you back 54 pounds 60 in
43:05one of the pubs at
43:05heathrow 48 pounds 41 at manchester airport and 42 pounds 45 in edinburgh so if you're going to have
43:16a hearty meal you're not far off the cost of a lounge pass so if someone goes in and decides
43:25to
43:26eat and drink as much as they possibly can are they being subsidized effectively by someone who just wants
43:32to go in there and work quietly there'll be some people that might consume a little bit more than
43:36than what they're paying for and there'll be others that don't consume quite so much as um as as the
43:42the average price and then maybe buying that that facility because it is a little bit of a quiet space
43:47and somewhere nice to relax before they travel so the economics of all-inclusive apply to the airport
43:55lounge as well but is there a way to get the luxury of the lounge for less some credit cards
44:02come with airport lounge access as a perk so that might be worth looking at depending on the card
44:10you choose you could get a discounted lounge entry a few free visits each year or even unlimited access
44:19credit card companies often buy lounge entries in bulk and offer them to their customers
44:25in fact nearly half of airport lounge revenue now comes from credit card partnerships but here's the
44:33catch the main thing to say about these credit cards is that many of them come with an annual fee
44:40and i will tell you a secret i can't believe i'm about to admit it but my amex platinum costs
44:45me 650
44:47pound a year which is not cheap by any means the only reason i have it is because i travel
44:53a lot
44:53and it helps me save money but that does not mean it will save every single person 650 pound a
44:59year
45:00for 650 pounds per year chelsea gets free access to over 1500 lounges worldwide plus a guest some
45:10other perks include hotel room upgrades and late checkouts discounts on car rental and worldwide travel
45:18insurance with travel credit cards it's perhaps no surprise the more you pay the more benefits you
45:25get if lounge access is what you're after there are several more affordable alternatives for example
45:33santander's world elite card will also give you complimentary lounge access barclay card avios
45:41offers discounted lounge entries and amex gold gives you four free visits each year and comes
45:48with no annual fee for the first year but whichever card you choose remember they only save you money
45:56if you pay them off regularly so your next getaway could be more than just relaxing it could be smarter
46:05knowing that you've done everything you can to get the best possible deal to enjoy the luxury of your
46:11all-inclusive holiday for less
46:16and if you're more of a city breaker jasmine has more bargain holiday secrets for you same time
